Judge: Bars Are Allowed to Throw Out Trump Supporters

But we're still required to bake the fucking cake, right?

I have no problem with this ruling. I'm just curious why our government is creating one caste with the right to refuse to serve people with whom they disagree, while creating another caste required to serve people with whom they disagree as if they were slaves.

Manhattan judge ruled Wednesday that there’s nothing "outrageous" about throwing the president’s supporters out of bars -- because the law doesn't protect against political discrimination.

Philadelphia accountant Greg Piatek, 31, was bounced from a West Village watering hole in January 2017, just after Trump took the oath of office, for wearing a "Make America Great Again" cap, according to his lawsuit over the incident.

"Anyone who supports Trump -- or believes in what you believe -- is not welcome here! And you need to leave right now because we won’t serve you!" Piatek claims the staff of The Happiest Hour on West 10th Street told him after he and his pals complained about the rude service they were getting from a bartender.

Good luck imposing your caste system on a nation founded on violent revolution over unequal political rights.

Oh, by the way: What if the guy wearing the MAGA hat refused to order beer and just wanted to sit at the table and use the bathroom while he waited for his financial adviser?

Same ruling?

Does it depend on his race, I wonder?

6 As for baking a cake -- well, we're making "sexual orientation" and other immutable characteristics "protected classes" now. So ... there you go.

Barry Goldwater was called a nut (and a racist) for suggesting things like this would happen if he voted for the civil rights act of 1964. But thats where all this leads back.

"Public accommodations" (ahem) cannot, legally discriminate against "protect classes."

Both "public accommodations" and "protected classes" have done nothing but expand in definition for the past, whatever it is, 50+ years.

So here we are.

Religion = protected
Sexuality = protected
Political views = not protected.

7 I suppose we'll all get upset over this now.

If you don't like disparate treatment maybe you should insist your alleged political party stands up for your rights.

oh right, the GOP is only tough when it comes to bombing people overseas. If they walk slowly though across the border, then we're morally obligated to treat them like princes because domestically the GOP only cares about helping banks avoid paying fees or their employees.

We added the first asterisks during reconstruction after the civil war, and began greatly expanding those asterisks in the 1950's and 1960's and have continued to expand them to this day.

You think this shit is bad? Look up housing laws and what a landlord can and cant use to determine whether or not they want to enter in to a 12-month contract with someone by renting out an apartment.

Correct, but one clarification - recent decisions have been supporting the interpretation that sexual orientation is protected, but the original law this is based on - the Civil Rights Act of 1964 - actually just says "sex", which at the time was taken to mean gender. It's a subtle shift in meaning that the left has been pushing in legal circles for the last 20 or 30 years.

There's the weakness in your argument. The law does, however, protect against discrimination based on religion. The Courts twist this around to suggest that baking a cake for a gay couple is a discrimination of their religion when, in fact, it is the exact opposite. It is the religion of the cake bakers that is actually violated by forcing them to ignore their tenants.

Were these cake bakers smart, they would specifically state that they won't bake said cake because it is contrary to their political beliefs...this nitwit judge just gave them that opportunity.

121 Most white men under 30 in America have experienced two relentless things:

1. Being constantly discriminated against due to their race and gender; losing out on educational opportunities and jobs due to "affirmative action" and quotas and just flat-out unapologetic casual bigotry against them at every level of society.

2. Being constantly slandered as possessing "white privilege:" and "male privilege," as if they were benefitted from some still-extant "old boys' network" of backslapping white guys who due each other favors and who control society.

Except young American white men not only have NEVER experienced one second of "privilege," all they're ever experienced is anti-privilege, and outrageous mistreatment as untouchables at the lowest rung of the social ladder.

Something's gotta give.

Something's going to explode, actually.

WHICH, incidentally is the only way LBJ got Democrats to vote for the CRA of 1964 -- the promise of winning the black vote and of eroding the idea of private property.

It was politically brilliant, really. The R's had to vote against a law called the CIVIL RIGHTS ACT after spending 100+ years passing civil rights acts (which to this day still hurts them), when all the law really did was reclassify private businesses as "public accommodations."

It's conscious.

Several gay/lesbians activists have admitted (during the fight for gay marriage) that the goal was to kill marriage, not take part in it. There was an online petition for years (now gone) - BeyondMarriage.org - that said up from that gay marriage was just step 1, with the endgame being making all sorts of unions in order for people take advantage of benefits of marriage. They want to redefine family as any group of people who want to say they're a family (i.e. destroy the concept entirely).

Actually I do own some rental properties. I (and most landlords here) automatically refuse to allow any more than 2 persons to a bedroom, and only allow 3 persons per bathroom, no matter how many bedrooms there are. Also, Credit Checks are allowed, and everyone who's a renter these days has something bad on their credit (usually medical) and so you can always use that to turn down someone you don't like. Best method, of course, is to only do word of mouth advertising when renting out a place, which you can do when the market is hot, like it is now. And then you just say "no, it's already rented" if you talk to someone you don't want.

Now yeah, you're an idiot if you accept Section 8, which no one does. EXCEPT the slumlords who have property that is so roach infested and run down that no decent person would ever get near it, and so that's what all the section 8 housing looks like where I am.

Many of the polygamous families in states like Utah and AZ have the wives collecting food stamps, welfare, housing, and other government benefits for themselves and their children. I remember reading an article about one group of them living in a big compound which had been financed almost entirely by welfare benefits. All of it was technically legal, since the "wives" weren't legally married to the husband, and were entitled to welfare as non-working "single mothers."

Just another massive scam to rip off taxpayers, and yet another reason to do away with welfare. Live how you want to live, just don't expect the rest of us to pay for your lifestyle choices.

It's like my expressing the belief that letting women vote has had disastrous consequences. In no way would I suggest any political solution for that. In no way would I suggest that any politico or semi-politico even discuss it!

I think one thing you COULD do is insist that the (federal) government confine its civil rights concerns to those things mandated by the 14thA --- race, ethnic origin, and religion.

You could make a good case that adding category after category of protected classes diminishes the singular, historical importance of the black fight against Jim Crow.
There are still a lot of blacks who are very squeamish about equating "gay rights" with the old Civil Rights movement.

Try this one on for size: "Out of the corner of my eye I saw someone approaching, and, thinking it might be the perp we'd been called about, I drew my service revolver and pointed it in that direction. As I realized the person was not the perp, my weapon accidentally discharged."

The classic problem with the "accidental discharge" thing is that you've essentially just plead guilty to manslaughter. Your gross negligence caused the death of another. 10-15 in jail.

On the flip side, if you think there's a smalll chance you can convince a jury you were reasonably in fear for your life, and the judge goes for it? eh. Worth I shot I guess

End of the day, he probably ends up 10-15 in prison no matter what he does, so why not try for the self defense first?

Oh of course it does, but Maryland. I noticed that the bill itself contains a list of 12 states where you really should not own rental property, basically a roll call of blue states. (but somehow Oklahoma bought into that bad idea)

So what will happen is that rental property won't be built, and what is built won't be maintained, and in a few years those states will face a big demand for Public Housing, which will fail like it always fails.

Real solution - don't live in those states.

Unless he was carrying with one in the chamber, and the safety off.... how could he accidentally discharge his weapon?

324 Rush asking "where is the reckoning" for this 2-tier justice system that is being uncovered?

Implying that there will be no legal punishment for the corrupt in our government.

I agree.

So what we gonna do about it?

325 Tom Servo: "I'm not sure. I listened to Trump's call in to the Fox hosts this morning, and after listening to him I was left thinking 'oh god, don't talk to Mueller, don't talk to Mueller'."

If Trump listens and accepts only one piece of advice during his entire tenure, this is the advice he needs to heed. DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, TALK TO MUELLER.

326 Some days I wish they would openly declare war on us so we can get on with the shooting part. Instead, I'm just going to have to wear MAGA gear every day to remind them that we deplorables are everywhere and not going away anytime soon.

Unarmed & in a nightgown. Your chance doesn't get much smaller than that.

328 Does anyone agree with Rush when he opines that Trump thinks he can convince anyone of anything; and that he could persuade Mueller to literally just shut down the investigation merely with his Trumpian Force of Will?

Depends on what you mean to do I agree with Rush. Do I think Trump thinks he can persuade Mueller? I am not sure. I mean, there is the whole Scott Adams Master Persuader thing. Trump and the Art of the Deal and all that.

But I am not sure that Trump thinks he can just persuade Mueller. I think he thinks he can beat Mueller which is not the same thing.

329 > To sum up the trend of the last eight years or so, it is basically illegal to not be a Communist. What has not been explicitly stated (yet) is the punishment.

They need to get rid of the Second Amendment before they can tell you that.

330 Was this bar that threw out the MAGA hat-wearing guy a GAY bar by any chance?

There are a lot of them in NYC and they don't all advertise it in their signage.

332 i wonder what would happen if 10-12 people went to The Happiest Hour and ordered beers...and got served. And then put on their MAGA hats.

333 So, bakers, photographers, et al, just need to kick gay wedding customers out politically -- then it's A-OK.

(Religious freedoms are so passé.)

336 I hope sane people are watching this and taking it seriously. Not just this, but all the other things we have seen that are unprecedented in our history.

That we actually have people who would throw someone out of a bar becz of a hat is beyond belief. It is our president. Don't remember anyone doing this about Obama.

People have really lost their minds. It is not just students and SJWs who need their safe spaces and to shut down differing opinions, now it is adults.

The list of all the crazy keeps growing, and is beyond belief to see our country devolve. I hope there are enough sane people left, and enough old school Dems who are mortified by their party, that pushback will happen.

FGM allowed in some states, but hat wearing in a bar is not. Our moral compass is broken.

337 Id like a serious argument to get made that being gay doesnt mean you have to believe in gay marriage, therefore events that publicly support gay marriage are themselves inherently political.

Edit: Pixy can you update this dang thing to accept directional quotes and apostrophes?

338 Maybe we should all start framing our views as part of our religious beliefs so we can claim they're protected. Remember, the courts refuse to even address the question of exactly what any religion says -- because an individual who rolls his own is protected (in theory, anyway) just as much as an institutional faith with millions of adherents.

339 "Good luck imposing your caste system on a nation founded on violent revolution over unequal political rights."

Which is why Democrats' agenda is to replace the electorate with foreigners that have no understanding of our traditions or culture, and do not have any desire to learn.
