Google Bans Advertisements From Publishing Arm of Large Conservative Lutheran Denomination; Won't Say Why

Of course.

I look forward to being lectured by the TruCons how we must not boycott Google or begin applying political pressure because Corporations Are Holy Bodies Like the Body of Christ Himself and that if we just surrender our right to speak and think freely in the current age with barely a whimper of protest, we will be judged, after we are dead, to have acted properly and like good little subjects.

At any point are the TruCons going to start proposing actual action points to begin rolling back the Censorship Regime now so that we currently living can enjoy the birthrights of American citizens, or are we just waiting to die silently so that we may be praised in posterity for #MuhPrinciples?

I don't know about you, but cowardly surrender and craven obedience to a corrupt and unrelentingly hostile system isn't one of #MuhPrinciples.

I'd rather be rudely alive than a polite and respected-in-retrospect corpse.

115 Ace's liver, that's a key factoid - about pricing, financial viability, and the current absence of alternatives to Goolag and UToob.

Anyone know if anti-trust law, as currently evolved/mangled/monsterized, would cover practices such as running losing operations to prevent competitors gaining a foothold?

Don't know about any "TruCons," and I've "boycotted" Goolag best I can for years for lots of other reasons, but seems to me pretty simple. If these outfits are private companies, with no special status or designations, they can do what they want. All a question of giving them special status (regulated), or not. Right?

A separate angle - one that might imperil the very business model - would be privacy requirements that made it much harder to monetize the personal data of Goolag and Farcebook, et al.

It's far more complicated than this though.
Google effectively "dumped" android on the market. Gave it away totally free to manufacturers who adopted it because it was free (and at the time fairly customizable for their bloatware).

Google did this because tethering us all to android feeds their data beast. By the time MS realized what was up, it was too late. (WP7 and 8 were great OS's hobbled by lack of uptake.)

We had a sitting Senator violate the US constitution and all previous established rules and principles of the congress by grilling an appointee over his religious beliefs. Interesting question...

Freedom of speech is a Natural Right important enough that the Founders of our Nation specifically made sure the Federal Government could not limit it...

Yet... we that same natural Right is now being limited by Companies...

So the question becomes... why do we allow that? How can we consider them American Companies, if they are going to do something we enjoined the Government from doing?

he briefly considered mounting lutefisk warheads on v2 rockets but even that was a bridge too far for hitler. he was a monster not evil.

221 "The Cloud" is a building full of servers in Palo Alto CA.

Yeah i think people believe the "cloud" is some sort of nebulous internet structure without any storage anywhere and owned by nobody. You put it out there and its in the net, for you to get, but not stored anywhere specific.

You're just being charged to put your stuff on someone else's computer. Someone who keeps being repeatedly hacked and has demonstrated a willingness to sell what you are to anyone with deep pockets.

Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at April 23, 2018 06:15 PM (39g3+)

"The Cloud" is just a marketing gimmick, nothing more. When you use "the Cloud" you are not doing anything we were not doing back in the early 1980s. We even called it a cloud, drew a cloud symbol on our diagrams and so forth, back then. But the "Cloud" was just the network, period. A computer network (nowadays mainly the Internet, or what the Internet has morphed into over the past 20 years) that you used to access a remote host, server, whatever you want to call it, where your data is stored. Read it, write to it, access it, it's all the same stuff we've been doing literally forever. In terms of how it is put together, how it works, and all that, nothing has fundamentally changed in all these years. Sure, the network is faster, more available bandwidth, greater storage capacity, and all that. But fundamentally it works no differently now than it did 40 years ago. "Cloud" my ass...

Every day, but we fight on a different realm than the political and legal. Ideas, "overthrowing reasonings, and every high thing rising up against the knowledge of God, and taking captive every design to the obedience of Christ."

As citizens of the United States we have a responsibility to also fight against injustice, criminality, and violations of the constitution, but that's something that lies on us all, not Christians specifically.

Personally I sense and have a suspicion that the culture is changing, that the worm has turned. But like all things, its hard to see when you're too close and the enemy can seem to be very triumphant for quite a while even while losing.

310 Take Kevin Williamson, who said at one point in a discussion with a buddy that women who abort a child should get the noose.

OK that's a bit harsh, I agree that abortion should be illegal, and I am absolutely 100% on board with calling abortion the worst possible sort of murder. But I don't think a terrified, desperate teenage girl should be executed for it, nor should anyone else. That's a punishment far beyond the deed, and I can explain why I say that if anyone really cares or isn't clear on the concept.

But okay, he thinks this.

What happens if he thinks this? What takes place in the world? How does this impact anyone? What is the worst thing that can happen if, for example, he's hired by a failing leftist publisher and writes columns for them?

This is what the left doesn't' want to discuss. They want extreme answers to nonexistent problems. They are so insecure in their ideology and so wedded to the madness that if only we clear out all the bad voices everyone will become good people and all bad things will go away that they insist nobody who disagrees with them be allowed to be heard.

Not because they think there's a direct correlation or connection between beliefs we hold and evil events. But because they want to be the only voice, because they believe sincerely that there are no bad boys, only bad influences. That if we just get rid of the bad stuff then all poverty, racism, discomfort, sadness, lack, hunger, and all the rest will all just disappear. That all this is caused not by something innate to our natures, not by humanity but by Bad People with Bad Ideas who we have to excise from the public for the good of us all.

After he passes, I hope to never have to hear the Bush name again. My husband feels the same.

A cuz of my husband went into the Bush admin. as a staunch conservative, and came out as a true Deep Stater. Can't stand Fox, loves CNN and MSLSD. And there are many like him.

425 Why would anyone run from someone with an unloaded crossbow?

I have no idea, I think it was shock at someone fighting back and one of them actually taking a hit. I just thought it was hilarious too. Personally I'm a longbow guy but chalk one up for granny.

Mannix is notable for the high level of physical punishment he withstands. During the course of the series, he is shot and wounded over a dozen separate times, and knocked unconscious around 55 times.

In the radio show Marlowe every episode he's knocked out somehow, usually by a beating. After 50 episodes or so, you'd expect the guy to talk like Muhammad Ali.

That's the one where Ahnold's Attorney General refused to contest the case... and the Judge was gay.

The fair and reasonable decision.

No, by the time it got to the appellate courts Brown was in office. The whole thing pissed me off - the point of the initiative process is to allow the people to pass a law the state doesn't want. The idea only the state has standing for an appeal is just the sort of sophistry we've come to expect since the leftists took over the court system.

437 rhomboid : Ekaterina Jung I mean, Cathy Young, who should know, had a lot of fun at antiSemites' expense when she pointed out that the Leninist base wasn't the Jews nearly so much as the Latvians.

(Atheist Jews did rise high in Soviet ranks, but their shtetl kinfolk back home in Ukraine and Belarus got f-cked with the rest of them. This much, I should know. As should antiSemites if they'd ever read "Bloodlands".)

What's the equivalent to 'remove kebab' for Latvians - 'remove herring'?

Posted by: boulder t'hobo at April 23, 2018 07:20 PM (6FqZa)

438 DR WTF, that AG would have been one Jerry Brown.

But you left out the best part. By faithlessly failing to do his duty and defend the initiative statute, and letting a private party bang its head on the kangaroo court hearing the case, Brown did his part to amend CA's constitution without a vote. Upon appeal, of course, the private party was denied "standing" (only state AGs have standing, you see).

So ...... putting it all together, CA can "over-turn" the voters using the state constitution to pass statutes by referendum by simply failing to defend them when challenged in court, counting on the courts to do their typical lawless worst - and in effect there is no appeal, as SCOTUS will deny standing.

That opened all kinds of cans of worms for the government to dictate to business owners, because of their redefinition of private property as "public accommodation".

Say I own a restaurant. I own the business, I own the building. Then the local government passes an ordinance saying that I may not allow my customers to smoke on the premises, because it's a "public accommodation". WTF?

That is a direct outgrowth of the civil rights laws.

Amazon Web Services and Google Drive are like Coke and Pepsi, dude. They don't run on the same servers.

I seriously doubt that AWS has a server farm anywhere near Palo Alto. Amazon tends to put its stuff in rural, low-cost areas. Servers don't give a shit where they are. If there's cheap electricity, a fiber optic trunk nearby, and low real estate costs, that's where they get put. California has the fiber, but not the others.

Also, Amazon's hosting centers don't say ANYTHING on the building, for security reasons. It's not like the general public is going to be dropping in for a visit.

453 BTH, correct. Sort of related, I found it interesting that in the early moves to represss/control the church, the Politburo was very careful to make sure Trotsky's name was not on any of the decrees or decisions. Didn't want to stir up the anti-Semitism they - for some reason - feared/thought was rampant in the populace.

Thanks, looks like a possible alternative for mail.

For a search alternative, have a look at qwant.com. It is located in France and works under European privacy laws. No tracking and does not use Google on the back end, as several alternatives do (e.g. duck duck go). I could not find anything about censoring or bias in the search results, however.
