The Morning Rant

talking ape.jpg
"Freedom and security are inverse quantities. The more you have of one, the less you must necessarily have of the other. Freedom is dangerous. Freedom can get you hurt. Freedom can mean failure and bankruptcy and hard times. But if you trade your freedom for security, how can you be secure against those whom you have given it to?"

Two Different Destinations:

security vs freedom.jpg

ben franklin - freedom comes from God.jpg

“And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand?... The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin's thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt! If...if...We didn't love freedom enough. And even more – we had no awareness of the real situation.... We purely and simply deserved everything that happened afterward.”

20 One easy way to have more security without an invasion of privacy, would be to quit opening the borders to drug/human traffickers, quit issuing them drivers licenses, quit importing enemy forces.

"One doesn't have to go back to Garfield to find a time when everyone wanted to protect the nation from dysfunctional immigration -- the crime, the drug, the poverty, the wage-depressing effect, the burden on our social services. Positions that are today considered hateful used to be called common sense."

25 Crazy thought: Would a Democrat Congress help get PDT re-elected?

The biggest obstacle to PDT's agenda has been the sell-outs on the GOP side of the aisle. And he's been constrained in dealing with them because they are, nominally, his party. But that dynamic would change with Democrats in power. Because then it would be PDT against a batshit crazy Democrat Congress.

Senator Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has shown favoritism to Facebook and kept the government off its back.

Facebook has reciprocated, making Schumer its #1 recipient of campaign contributions.

Schumer's daughter, Alison, works for Facebook.
[At his daughter's recommendation] Schumer has nominated his chief counsel, Rebecca Kelly Slaughter, to serve as a commissioner of the Federal Trade Commission, which regulates companies like Facebook.

84 Read the history of the Dominican Republic and Haiti. The French shithole side even worse than the spanish side even though it flipped back and forth several times. The Spainish imported slaves to DR and had a major port there before Havana. The slaves would escape into the mountains and pretty soon it was impossible to move around the island without being murdered by escaped slaves. That was one of the major reasons that the main port in the area was moved or rather pushed to Cuba, the disaster of the interior mountains harboring, essentially, savages.

I think that's about right. Any time I hear Dem vs. GOP poll numbers, I take 6 points from the Dem total and add it to the GOP total. This is to compensate for the bias, corruption, and oversampling of Dems that are a part of pretty much every poll nowadays.

115 Continuing with the "presidential fitness" thing from last thread, I am curious about what exactly (exactly) it is that Trump has done/said - as president - that is "unpresidential". It's just assumed that decades as a publicity-seeking public figure, a Queens real estate mogul with a NY mouth, somehow magically makes him unpresidential when he actually becomes president.

The Twitter thing. 90%+ of Trump's twats are either reporting on his activities, visits by foreign heads of state, actions taken by the administration, debunking "fake news" (some good ones in this vein the last few days), or just his position on issues of the day. How is that unpresidential? The few items quarreling with Hollywood figures etc. are a small occasional feature.

The problem is an unserious country and electorate, not an unpresidential president.

169 Continuing with the "presidential fitness" thing from last thread, I am curious about what exactly (exactly) it is that Trump has done/said - as president - that is "unpresidential". It's just assumed that decades as a publicity-seeking public figure, a Queens real estate mogul with a NY mouth, somehow magically makes him unpresidential when he actually becomes president.

I think your points on the last thread are exactly correct. Trump is no worse in private than any of several lionized Democrats.

To lots of people in the middle though, I think they'd argue Trump's *public* persona is more than a bit less polished than JFK and LBJ and others. I've heard several people who are solidly in the middle say they wish Trump would tweet less.

177 Yeah Mark Robinson is a natural speaker and public leader.

As I mused yesterday, imagine a country in which there was a political party with one, two, even three Robinsons in elected office, with a platform, giving voice to his rather obvious but fundamental truths and criticisms.

The fact that such a thing is just about inconceivable (on the national level) is a good index of how trapped, and leaderless, the American people are.

I'm leaving Trump out of this calculation, because to a great extent he *has* been outspoken on key basic truths that were effectively banned from public discussion - it's why he's president. But he can't row the boat against the surging tide alone. Again, just imagine, in the wake of the FL incident, 10 or 15 Mark Robinsons - congressmen, senators, governors - putting the smack-down on the notably idiotic, misplaced hysteria featuring stupid ignorant *teenagers* as its "leaders".

I get that. It's because Trump does the nicknames, and will 'go there' with attacks in a casual manner.

What's funny is that his twitter insults aren't different from the types of insults *Democrats* such as Harry Reid have been slinging for years. Remember all the times various Republicans have been called "terrorist" and "Taliban?" How about John McCain calling his fellow GOPers "whacko birds?"

Should Trump just say this things with a more somber tone? I recall numerous Obama insults haughtily delivered from a podium in the WH. Maybe say them from the Senate floor, instead of on twitter, so he can't be prosecuted for slander?

For Clinton it's just "well, guys, that's just Bill. Boys will be boys. Only a bunch of prudes would make a big deal out of a guy getting his rocks off at work."

So that's the standard. We should be saying, "DAMN! Trumps a g. Dude fucked a porn star! I hope he's getting mad pussy in the white house -- like Tiger Woods!!!"

Because that's what the left has said the standard is.

Right. When Biden says the TEA Party had a gun to peoples heads ("literally!"), that's just Joe tellin' it like it is.

When Biden says, "They wanna put y'all BACK IN CHAINS!" to a group of black people -- shit, Joe's keepin it real.

When Obama goes out saying "you can't listen to extremists like Rush Limbaugh or the NRA and expect to get things done" he's just calling out Congress.

When Trump says anything, it's "unpresidential" and "undignified."

Fuck the lefts premises on this stuff. It's the same thing -- we will never win if we play by a different rule book.

240 Nah. Avocado takes on the taste of whatever you put on it. If you put cocoa powder, sweetener, and some version of milk with it. It tastes like chocolate pudding. Lime and salt? Guac, no "avocado" taste. Or I can't taste it. I ordered a Crab Louis salad a couple of days ago and it came with slices of avocado. I cleansed my palate and tried to see if I could detect any taste at all before salt or dressing. Nothing. Cotton has more taste. It's a recipient of taste, a bland fat. Not a fan, seems like useless calories unless chocolate.

241 201 I never have understood why rich conservatives don't buy up the media.

I think Bezos bought the Washington Post for $250 million, surely a few conservatives could have bought it and maybe even made a dollar or two. Imagine having those resources digging into every Democrat and trying to tilt the elections.

I bet the Kochs spend that in a single election cycle.
Posted by: Maritime at April 06, 2018 12:02 PM (lKmt3)

Because the rest of the media will attack the organization (WaPo, for example), half the staff would quit, and the style guide of every other organization would say:

"Extremist Koch-owned Washington Post reports..."

and within a few years, it'll either be defunct or known as a "right wing extremist" type organization like Fox News. Which is laughable, as I'm being generous if I call Fox "moderate" or "down the middle"... in reality, 90%+ of Fox News employees are leftists, with a few squishy center people working as producers, and one or two on air personalities who identify as conservative.

This kind of shit, by the way, is why we need to destroy the legacy media.

Yeah, that's how I've reconciled the occasional cringe I get from Trump's tweets, etc.

Trump was able to overcome the MSM, the Hillary campaign AND Obama WH/FBI/DoJ shenanigans precisely because he's a fighter.

That's what his twitter shtick is: fighting. He has to fight in public thanks to the SC/MSM swamp who will not report what he does accurately. It also knocks his opponents off balance (how dare he say that out in the open?!!!!), which is fun to watch.

There is no perfect candidate/POTUS. I can handle the occasional cringe because of what he's doing.

Toissant l'Overture's first failure was that he was unable to envision a Haiti outside of the cash crops of sugar and tobacco and coffee, and so he had to institute some sort of peonage to keep the no longer slaves still doing gang slave work.
His second failure, which was inevitable, was that Napoleon was determined to re-enslave Haiti, and his military governor was willing to kill every male above the age of 20, and started with all the coloreds he had under arms and obedient to France. (He did this by first ordering them onto ships, then bringing them out in small batches on the deck, tying bags of flour around their necks and having them pushed, at bayonette point into the harbor to drown)
The third failure was that after the French were defeated, the black racists came to the top, and they were willing to kill every white and colored in Haiti, and they proceeded to do so.
The fourth was that the French Third Republic sued Haiti for "loss of property" including all the slaves lost to France in the slave rebellions, to which Haiti agreed to keep trading with Europe, and to meet the installments they borrowed from French banks (because they would go their note) and got deeply into debt which it had never gotten out of.
Since then, economically kneecapped, economically at the mercy to commodity prices of sugar, under-captialized and a pariah against the other countries in the West it has drifted into a culture of corruption, violence and dictatorship.

The Clintons apparently made lots of money off of Haiti, relief schemes for Haiti, and selling adulterated drugs to Haiti, but they are hardly unique or original in this.

In any case, caring about (mostly imagined) indelicate statements by a president, in this context, vs. caring about the dire national situation and the specific policy changes that president is effecting or aiming to effect, is the definition of "unserious". 371 I do that stuff too, but there is a sense that I
shouldn't because I might get "hurt." You know how I get my lawn mowed
when I want it mowed? I say, "If one of you doesn't mow the lawn today, I
will." (or a similar type job). All 3 boys and the husband will jump to
do it. There is a worry I might not cook? I also think it emasculates
them or something. At least now they let me paint and do some minor
caulking/grouting/etc. since i convinced them they didn't have the
proper sense of detail (since they don't).

2) He has ties to lots of US lawmakers over the years including John McCain. He threw a 70th birthday party for McCain on some island in the Med.

3) He uses the same lawyer as Christopher Steele and it is believed he might be both a source for information for the dossier and an employer of Christopher Steele.

4) Sen. Mark Warner's texts that were released a month or so ago show he was in contact with Deripaska's contact in the US to set up a meeting with Deripaska.

5) Until recently he was the head of a huge Russian minerals company called Basic Element that is in the business of gathering minerals for Russia including big deals for uranium in Kazakstan and other places.

Depends on the boy. I loved baths, but mom had to direct me to take them from time to time because I'd forget.

Also, deodorant: I was broke for a while in my 20's and I learned to dust my pits down with baking soda a couple times a week. It messes with the pH that encourages the skin bacteria that causes odor.
But it does keep the pits much sweeter.

I think they like me to scream at them. No, seriously, like some attention getting scheme.

465 Pruitt at EPA seems to be delivering - and yes the current lynch mob operation against him would be additional evidence that this is true - but as with most other areas the GOP on the Hill has thwarted Trump and the will of the electorate on EPA matters. The CR did not make the big funding changes Trump requested, and which are key to reducing the damage and threat EPA represents. As with most other policy areas, the progress has come only in ways achievable through discretionary administrative action alone.

There was of course a big brouhaha associated with the CR, but seems to me even the politically aware minority do not appreciate what a bold and complete rebuke of Trump and the 2016 election it is.

And yet, i also know that they get a ton of free UN food.

So maybe its less of a "must" and more of a "want"?

Not appropriate for a 12 yo. You first need to know some Soviet history to understand it. Secondly, it is two volumes long and wanders around a lot. I would recommend you read Cancer Ward instead. A true piece of art as opposed to GA. I have always suspected the Nobel Committee awarded it to GA in order to make Solzenitsyn hard to grasp by the wider world. 592 583 "Never read The Gulag Archipelago, but will right now.

Is it appropriate for a 12-year-old? Grandson's a voracious reader doing 200 pages a day, reading way above his age."

Try "One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich" first. It is a shorter read.

That's good advice. And if he is that much of a reader then he can probably handle the bigger books. I was 12 when I discovered the Holocaust.

Accent walls can be cool too. Especially if you do it with some type of grainy wood. I temporarily relinquish my man card.

I slip him books in a stealth attempt to bend him away from the soft leftism of his mom and dad. He's in parochial school so he's not getting too much leftist preaching there.

I read that and 'Cancer Ward' when I was that age. But they were challenging -- perhaps because not nearly as pleasant a read as floating down the Mississippi River with Huck and Jim. From what you mentioned he's probably close to tackling them.

595 Excess pillows? I can't believe you said that.

Women and their damned couch pillows. No use whatsoever except to annoy the heck out of men trying to sit on the couch. They're for sitting and lying on, no decorating with stupid little useless pillows. I don't want a back full of stuffed chicklets.

596 "A guy that was posing as doctor was injecting cement and fix-a- flat into women's butts. A women died because of it."

I thought it was coke mixed with pop-rocks?

597 The left thinks that many people belong in the gulag, those that aren't bad enough to be liquidated outright anyway.

599 I mention that old ceiling popcorn may or may not have asbestos. When the big fir hit the house and caved in the ceiling the first thing done by the contractor was test the popcorn. Total abatement necessary.

JustAfter I dragged all the valuables out. Wearing a particulate respirator.

Real fun was tarping the 30 ft roof trench in the pouring rain. Suggestion for homeowners. Next time you see tarps on sale pick up a big one for the big one.

602 213 >>195 I'd just prefer a president who wasn't a serial adulterer who uses foul and crude language and is pointlessly mean in some of his attacks on rivals and foes. I think we'd be better off as a country overall if that wasn't the guy who our culture produced to lead us and be our most public figure. 603 I will second (third?) Day in the Life as a starter. Gulag is just too long and adult. He'll go for the more adult as his interest grows. See my recommendations for history with Tuchman and adolescents.

604 "The Obama administration "was like having the 'good parent' at home,"

the former first lady said. "The responsible parent, the one who told

you to eat your carrots and go to bed on time."

What is the statistic - 80% unmarried mothers in black cities?

The biological father was a fling.

The financial father is named Sam. Uncle Sam.

Who the hell was Moochelle talking about, "the responsible parent?"

She's too busy shuffling off her teenage daughter to be interned by a pervert.

So of course she knows how to raise our kids. She continues her matronly lectures on our faulty way of life.

Sweet Heyzoos, this kind of crap is going to ramp up bigly in the upcoming months.
