The climate will never stay the same – nor should it. The only thing more absurd than denying climate change is thinking that humans can stop it from changing. But when people today say the words “climate change” they mean something else. They mean that humans are to blame. Pat Condell You have your hard labor, your organized labor, your menial labor, your labor of love and now Emotional Labor. A communications professor at the University of San Francisco is urging colleges to pay female faculty members for their “emotional labor.” Brandi Lawless, who teaches classes oriented towards social justice, argued in the March issue of Review of Communications that “emotional labor” is a form of academic work, just like teaching classes and grading homework is for professors. Emotional labor refers to “demonstrations of sympathy and empathy, one-on-one attention, supportive communication, counseling, general development of personal relationships, and making a person 'feel good,'” according to Lawless.Really? The public defecation problem has become so intolerable in San Francisco that private citizens have built an online map to track the concentrations of poop in the city, so that pedestrians may know to avoid certain areas. And it’s not just poop. The overwhelming smell of urine on parts of Mission Street and Market Street would make your nose bleed. I recall the first time I rode BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit, San Francisco’s subway system) and was nearly knocked over by the sheer stench of the station. I was surprised to learn that exiting the station supplied little to no relief — the urine smell hangs heavy in the more populated areas of the city and is nearly inescapable. In a dark twist of humor, the city has had to replace numerous different street poles due to urine eroding the foundation.Use of animals = bad. Animal behavior = good. Better dope. Evening Horde!
It was my privilege to attend the commissioning ceremony of the USS Ralph Johnson (DDG 114) this weekend. It was glorious for many, many reasons but I wanted to share, for me at least, the most important point I took away from the day. Every speaker, and there were about 10 of them, spent most of their time and remarks discussing PFC Ralph Johnsons relationship with God, how he lived and died for that relationship, and how we, every one of us, must also embrace our Lord and live accordingly. The dais was thick with politicians; Sen Tim Scott, Mayor Tecklenburg, and the local House Reps - so speechifying was to be expected. But to a man, they left the electioneering at home, and praised Johnson and implored us to emulate him and ask each Jesus each day, why am I here and how can I serve you? Rev. Collins of the Shiloh AME Church, Johnsons home church, delivered a sermon for the ages with all the energy and passion that one might expect driving the same message home. Commandant of the Marine Corps, General Neller, did likewise. I caught up with him after the ceremony and he told me after Rev. Collins speech, he was moved to dump his prepared remarks, and veer into what I would term an ad lib *fight for Christ, fight for goodness, fight for America, every G*ddamn day* lecture delivered as only a Marine could. It was almost a revival. Johnsons sister, Mizz Helen, was so overcome with feeling that she could not finish her words. The emcee, who I believe was the XO of the Johnson, had to take over and complete her remarks. I fear we are in for rough days ahead due to all the reasons we discuss here daily. But if the like minded among our countrymen have as much heart as the speakers, the guests and the sailors, spouses and families that were in attendance, we will be alright in the end. And I think they do. Posted by: tonypete at March 25, 2018 10:22 PM (9rIkM) 73

Trump is missing the response to the anti-gun marches.
He should propose that using a firearm in the commission of a violent felony be made a Federal crime, five year minimum penalty. This would tie up the Democrats in knots, because violent criminals, their friends, and their families, are part of the Democratic base. It would also focus attention on how Soros-backed district attorneys in places like Chicago and Philadelphia give violent criminals a slap on the wrist. Instead of trying to take away guns from law-abiding cities, let's shift the focus on the people who actually use guns to commit violent crimes. I meant to mention this in the gub thread but life was intervening.
Took the kids to the NRA Firearms Museum today. As a kind of counter protest. Wanted to go yesterday but again, life sort of intervened. did pass by the HQ a couple of times yesterday and expected to see protesters there, and apparently they did, too, because there was some police tape up in the parking lot. But none to be found. Not even the LGBT dance off protest. So, anyway, the museum. That was a LOT of filigree. some kind of neat weapons to see. A section on "America's Rifle" - the AR-15. Heh, use that next time someone goes AR is for Assault rifle.... Posted by: blaster at March 25, 2018 10:38 PM (jHrzU) 153

The actress Cynthia Nixon (net worth $60 million) is running for governor of New York.
She's figured out New York's basic problem: gosh darn it, New York state residents just aren't taxed enough! She's going to fix that though - and she's going to raise the minimum wage to $15 across New York state. It's unclear if she actually knows anyone in upstate New York, but she'll work on that. And the number one concern of people in "low-income communities of color" in New York is "protecting undocumented people". I'm sure the average black person in New York is terribly, terribly concerned about the illegals who compete against him for jobs. My father is fluent in Italian, but was born in the USA, and we never really knew what dialect he spoke, he didn't even know, but his parents were off the boat, so he learned real Italian, just wasn't sure what Italian. Dishwashers are easy to fix, unless one of two things go wrong - 1) the circuit board shorts out, in which case the controls don't work anymore, about half the time that's what's wrong, or 2) the seals on the pump go out at the bottom and water is leaking out, that's what goes wrong the other half of the time. Well I guess that's about it then.

Berserker, even though I'm of German descent, I would enjoy Italy. Just for the food and Ferraris. Posted by: chavez the hugo at March 25, 2018 11:58 PM (KP5rU) The food changed from region to region. I would say Rome had the best food IF you judge it by just walking into a hole in the wall place and ordering something. There was NO bad food in Rome. It was actually pretty damn amazing. Florence on the other hand had shit food. It was spotty. Walk into a hole in wall place and it was really hit or miss. I had the worst pizza in my life there, and the coffee was shit across the board. Rome on the other hand had amazing coffee no matter where you went, and the food was off the frigging charts. My brother who was there 13 years ago seems to think a lot has changed, its gotten more commercial. He never saw wine from a bottle when he was there, they always brought out wine in small pitchers. Dishwasher problems, eh? When I moved into my condo, I soon found that my dishwasher doesn't drain.

Simply pull up Bing or Duck squared Go, and type in your machine's model number with the words "flashing light won't run". And then select from the various You Tube videos on how to fix the thing. It's interesting that in Canada, the SJWs are also fighting for a $15 minimum wage. Communist Kathleen of Ontario has already legislated this great leap forward for robotics.
Of course, the Canadian dollar is only worth ~ 0.77 of the US dollar (and pretty unlikely to increase) ... which kind of makes all Canadian workers the legislated de facto equivalent of the imaginary "underpaid" US female worker. Posted by: Sunday night musings at March 26, 2018 12:33 AM (NAyjr) 421
It's also interesting how a word can have different meanings to each branch of the military.
For example, tell someone from each branch to "secure" a building. A Marine will put together a squad to storm on in there and take it by force. An Army guy will put up a fence around it and set up a patrol schedule. A Navy guy will turn off the lights and lock the doors. An Air Force guy will negotiate a 99-year lease with an option to buy. Posted by: Prothonotary Warbler, Keyboard Cossack at March 26, 2018 12:37 AM (wSC8T) I've still got the $289 "builder's grade" GE dishwasher that came with the house in 2008. It's basically "never used" but a few times a year. Reason being, it's loud. VERY VERY LOUD! A mid-price machine would cut the noise in half, but then again, I just seem to do OK with hand washing the dishes, pots n' pans. And I do a LOT of cooking here, too. Not just "heat n' serve" crap, either. Here's the real problem. All of the appliances here are "white" finish. And if one wants to make a change, it's a change of the fridge, dishawasher, range/oven, and microwave/vent-hood unit, all at once. It's all gotta be done as a set, or be all mis-matched dreck. THAT is what gets expensive, all of a sudden. Jim Sunk New Dawn Galveston, TX Posted by: Jim at March 26, 2018 12:45 AM (QzJWU) 428

""That's exactly what I was saying! I don't see what
you'd get from the $800 model that would make it worth choosing over the $350 model."" Like I said, there was a time where all dishwashers were NOT created equal. Not sure these days. My father's business was kitchen/bath remodeling, so I put in a shit ton of dishwashers in my time. I remember in the 90's there was a high end dishwasher that was $1500 back then, but it was dead quiet, you could not hear that sucker running. It was built like a tank inside, heavy gauge stainless, real quality. I think it was from a Swedish company. When I did my own kitchen one of the better cabinet companies had a special where they gave you a free dishwasher if you ordered a kitchen. Well, that sucker died in 6 years because it was a cheap pos. Then I put in a better one, that went about 10-12 years, and then I went for a higher end whirlpool. It was the quietest one yet. Its got about 10 years on it and it still works and looks new. I just don't know about these days, but you definitely used to get what you payed for. Oh yes, it's probably insanely bad luck to chime in here, but the dishwasher here is at least 28 years old - and works fine. Not quiet like the new ones, of course.
And the frig is the same age - but it's high-end .... but damn, nearly 30 years, and working fine. Frig actually has a death warrant, due to age - water absorption in the insulation eventually kills them. But the mechanics are 100%, after all these decades. The clothes dryer my family had when I was growing up lasted 45 years. I have the manual - outstanding 1960s memorabilia (smiling stereotypical housewife on the cover). Of course the thing was just a motor to turn the tumbler, a gas heater, and some simple switches/timers. Posted by: Very Unstable Semi-Genius, AKA rhomboid at March 26, 2018 01:02 AM (v9gSJ) 444

My first "legal" jobs in my youth, were various "dishwasher" jobs in restaurant sculleries.
Now, an Auto-Chlor machine bears ZERO resemblance to a home dishwashing machine, but I did learn a bit about keeping pace with the needs for clean dishes, pots, pans, cutlery, and other such in a commercial kitchen. Which is why my home kitchen sink features twin deep basins, and an extra-tall, spring-stabilized, hand-lever control commercial spray nozzle mounted on the swivel above the sinks. There is not a residential, under-counter dishwashing machine, that can even come close to competing with the throughput of clean and rinsed kitchen ware than I can run through the sinks and under the sprayer. And, I get it 100% clean, the first time, too. Commercial kitchens offer no slack, and I learned THAT, the hard way in the early and mid '70s. And those lessons stay with me to this day. Sometimes the volume = 0, other times it will go up some, but not to full volume, even if the display says it's eleventy. And then, yesterday, all the presets reset as if the battery had been disconnected but it hadn't been. Also, sometimes there's static on strong stations that only clears up if we turn the car off and back on. So, how often do we need to change the radio fluid? Interesting item came up today. I've been helping Jerry Pournelle's family go through the dozens of file boxes of old documents to see if there is anything of note before it gets sent to a collection at UC Riverside.
An entire novel nobody remember and a novella, both under the old pen name Wade Curtis. (Wade curtis apepared as a stand-in for Jerry in some of his collaborations with Larry Niven, who was in there as Nat Reynolds.) The novella is a WWIII story with a lead character named John Christian Falkenberg. But this is not a CoDominium story. It's vaguely contemporary to the era of its writing and has no overt SF elements. Since this has to predate the CoDominium setting for the Falkenberg and later Second Empire stories (such as 'Mote In God's Eye') the latest it was likely written was 1970, since the first Falkenberg's Legion story was in Analog in 1971. It may even be a couple years older than that. This is interesting because in the story Falkenberg is talking about the incident that caused him to leave the US military and become a mercenary. He's stationed in support of a foreign embassy under threat by rioting. Civilians are being flown out by helicopter (this is written well before the fall of Saigon too) while the troops are ordered to stay in barracks. The helicopter gets Falkenberg's daughter to safety but fails before it can make the last trip that would include Falkenberg's wife. She's brutalized and murdered when the embassy falls. The country? Iran. This gave me quite a surprise, as it was written at least a decade before the Islamic Revolution in Iran. Posted by: epobirs at March 26, 2018 01:50 AM (AJKgl) 497

477 MWW "So, the radio on our ancient Nissan quest has gone wonky. " Psychically reaching through the Internet to examine your radio, one thing I'd do is check the wiring harness connections to the radio. Losing all presets suggests that it has lost power, and static, even on strong stations suggests a ground connection problem (I experienced this when I had a car alarm installed in my vehicle: immediate noise. Took it back and the installer fixed it in a few minutes). Volume not agreeing with the volume control setting: my Honda radio has a similar problem: I turn the volume knob, and usually nothing happens, but sometimes the volume jumps up 2 or 3 bars, some times it jumps down to 1 bar or off. I think the control is actually an encoder, and it is dirty. My mechanic tells me that fooling with the radio is a loosing proposition; live with it (cheapest) or get a new one (next cheapest solution). The repair is likely to cost more than a new (and really cool) one. Swapping in one from a junked car ... I think you might have to have the dealer play with a security code, to get the replacement radio to work. I think this because no one steals radios anymore, as they have "security mojo" that is tough to beat: codes, receptacle in the car needed (and tough to get to), etc. Posted by: Arbalest at March 26, 2018 01:54 AM (FlRtG) 501

two drawers, designed to keep kosher, but, set to the "fast/eco" setting, each will clean a batch of dishes, utensils, etc, in <40 minutes, start to finish. great for small households, as you don't need to load everything you own in, prior to hitting start, and, if you're entertaining, you can clean as you go, so less mess the next day. even at full price, we'll buy another one, should we either move or need to replace this unit. love it, love it, love it. Back in my undergraduate days I worked in the dishroom of my dorm, which accomodated about 1,000 folks. The hierarchy of jobs, from noob to veteran, was work the window (pulling trays and separating dishes and utensils), rinser, dishwasher unloader and dishwasher loader. There were two dropoff windows and the dishwasher was a Hobart industrial model with a working belt around fifteen feet in length with supplied steam for sanitizing by extreme heat near the takeoff end. Stuff came off that bed HOT, so you quickly developed hands to take that heat or you couldn't do the unloader's job. A good pairing of loader and unloader was like a well-tuned machine and had no belt stops for failing to keep up with the workload despite the loader attempting to flood the unloader with long runs of the more difficult dishes to handle. I worked there for two-plus years, worked all the jobs and kicked ass in every one. You knew when you were doing your job well and you developed a great sense of satisfaction about that. Great fun. A friend of mine has it in his car and I just didn't find it to be something worth shelling out for when I have a backlog of many dozen audio books to get through. But not a week goes by that I don't get at least one piece of mail from them. Worse, they were calling the house for a while, adding tot he already infuriating level of phone spam we get.

I want you to know as a matter of full disclosure, I am a Catholic. Catholics basically believe the same teachings that Baptists believe, Cuomo said at Mount Neboh Baptist Church, according to the Post. We just do it without the rhythm. But we try. We are not as without rhythm as some of our Jewish brothers and sisters. Posted by: rhennigantx at March 26, 2018 06:07 AM (BtQd4) 544

Dishwasher here is Samsung. No problems after two years. Quiet, strong. Nice feature pops the door open at end which helps dry everything. Also has 'sanitize' setting for extra germ killing. Takes a long time, like two hours, to run through all cycles. Posted by: Forgot My Nic at March 26, 2018 06:10 AM (LOgQ4) 547
I believe GE is now Chinese.

We've got a 14 year old GE. Works great, knock on wood. Only takes an hour to wash a load too.

Posted by: Bruce at March 26, 2018 06:14 AM . . .I had a 15 year old Ryobi weed whacker until Saturday when it went tit$ up. They don't make that model any longer and the newer one weighs about 5 pounds more. Had to bite the bullet and buy it as I have a dozen tools that use that battery system. On the Stormy BS, who DA FUK cares?
When the Progressive Media ask (or tells) me to care about something I know it is time for no fuks are given. I do not care. Progressivism is one big campaign to make you care about thing you can do nothing about. In the grand scheme of life you can control about 3 things. Where you put your dick (or allow dicks to be put). How much abuse you give your body. And if you are going to Heaven. Everything else is just BS to get you to care. Stormy Daniels apparently believed the polls that Trump was gonna lose bigly, took the payoff to shut up, now wants more money. Now that George Soros will fund her little endeavor, we're supposed to ignore the many times she denied having sex and believe her now? Fvck the slut. Extradite Soros to Hungary. Beside the obvious point the 2nd amendment isn't about hunting and you didn't look like a hunter, just a progressive in hunters clothes: You don't need to hunt to feed your family! That isn't why most hunters do it. Much easier and cheaper to go to Krogers. Useful idiot! Posted by: Ripley at March 26, 2018 06:37 AM (MxEKc) 570

I like the Ryobi system and bought into it almost as soon as it came on the market. They have been consistent over the years unlike some other Stores that get a brand or type of battery tools and then drop them in a few years for something else. Don't waste your time and money on the small one that is on sale right now though, it must have been made for midgets and can't be adjusted for height.
