29 Sometimes, after my wife has gone to her bed. I'll abscond to the refrigerator and sneak a can of Steel Reserve...or ten.

I need to drink the pain away.

Usually I awaken on the bathroom floor just as Paolo, naked of course, flips on the light and turns on the water to start his morning shower. He often utters something about me in castilian spanish and that hurts.

But every once in a while, it's worse. Sometimes I will awaken in my wife's car sitting askew two or three Handicapped spots just outside of the offices of the Weekly Standard. A former colleague walking by might recognize the car and that will hurt, but they might not too.

However I will always have to look in the mirror to back out of those Handicapped parkings spots and when I do that I'll have to and see one Bill Kristol looking back at me in the mirror.

AND THATS TORTURE NO ONE ELSE WILL EVER UNDERSTAND!!!

All anyone needed to see was tough democrat maverick Joe Manchin standing up , then sitting down at the SOTU speech when he realized the donks were sitting through it all. He wasn't man enough or principled enough to stand up for what he says he believes in when it might cost him with Democrats.

105 I was about to bring this up in the last thread, but
how did that poor dog die on the United flight? Are overhead bins
airtight and it suffocated?

The article said it was "forced" into an overhead bin but I couldn't
tell whether that meant the flight attendant forced the passenger to
put the dog into the bin, or whether the dog was forcibly put into the
bin and injured.

So it's almost a purely symbolic race. Maybe losing would be better, scare Republicans into getting their shit together before November.

To the Leftists that infest all levels of government, that is a feature, not a bug. Makes it easier to facilitate voter fraud.

I seem to recall some Donk politicians got UN observers to watch for intimidation of minority-race voters (by eeeeevil [white] Republicans, of course) in 2016(?). The Donks were trying to embarrass the Republicans but the stunt blew up in their faces because the UN observers were horrified by the lack of safeguards against fraud and said so publicly. That all went "poof" down the memory hole pretty quickly.

That reminds me of the last Louisiana Governer's race, between David Vitter, gop, and John Bel Edwards, Dem. Louisiana has been a reliably republican state for the last few cycles, BUT I was in Shreveport the day before that election, and I saw the ads. John Bel Edwards, Dem, ran ads showing himself as the Sheriff that he was, with his dad the Louisiana Sheriff, no ideology, just a normal working class guy. Then I saw Vitter's ads - "OBAMA IS SENDING MOSLEMS TO LOUISIANA TO KILL YOU!!!" Seriously - they were so ridiculous they were comical, and even I was left with the impression that Edwards was a normal guy and Vitter was a flaming idiot. (and it was VITTER's ad campaign that created that impression!!!)

Surprise, surprise, republican Louisiana has a Democrat Governor, John Bel Edwards.

Posted by: Fritz

End up? It is already. Pretty state and some fine people live there. I'm biased as I grew up there. I go up every year to golf, visit friends, family. I was driving up on Rt. 19 to see if Conneaut Lake Park still existed (it does, barely) and was shocked to see so many abandoned homes along the way. Just full size single family homes, empty, with the woods slowly engulfing them. Near empty towns that you could tell used to matter. Gone, pretty much. Maybe not quite shit hole status but sad and empty isn't much better. My home town is just welfare recipients, seniors who can't afford going somewhere better, and criminals.

In this case they can. The state court rigged the process so that no map would be acceptable and then usurped the legislatures power to redraw the district maps.

That's a constitutional no no.

The court is not in the business of legislating yet that's what they've done with the collusion of the governor they limited the time the legislature had to come up with a map that the court would approve. so far so good. but then they took it upon themselves to redraw the map and make it the legal version. That they cannot do. They can make the legislature redraw the map forever but they are not allowed to draw the map themselves.

SCOTUS refused this case once because it was not "ripe" yet.

Now it is and they proof is right there written by the State Supreme court and in the constitution of PA.

Courts can't draw the map. They can force it to be redrawn but they can't draw it themselves.

I feel the same anger and disdain, but I console myself with the thought that these people come from generations-long attachments to the Democrat party, in almost all facets of their lives, because UNIONS! They basically get force-fed their political views and their votes from birth, and in some cases even get threatened if they don't toe the line politically. it's a very deep, very vicious cycle that needs to be broken at a cultural level, not just at an individual level.

It's all well and good to see a swell of support for the Rs and abandonment of the Ds during big ticket national/federal elections (Trump), but it will take time to change voting patterns at the granular district-by-district level.

But we seem to be making progress.

I think.

838 NYT still says that results are not in for Westmoreland county which it describes as "heavily Republican".

With that and a typical Republican advantage in absentee ballots, it looks like Saccone has got a shot at this.

840 Both Wasserman and Cohn said on twitter that there aren't enough votes left for Saccone to win.

I just saw a guy on twitter say this is more about Trump than the candidates.

Not sure I agree with that. Westmoreland County goes R for lots of elections, but went with two democrats to 1 republican for county commish in 2016. Candidates matter in these types of races.

864 Lamb +755 with 11 precincts left to report. Allegheny and Greene completely in. Westmoreland at 99%.

Again, if the NYT website is to be believed, the holdup appears to be in Peters Township in Washington County. Only 5 of the town's 11 precincts are in, and of those 5 it was roughly +800 for Saccone

Another hole is Srabane - which could net another 80-100 for Saccone

Then it's a matter of where the other 4 precincts are that have yet to report. If they're in Westmoreland then that probably means Saccone wins by < 500-votes.

That's wishcasting. The set of issues this fall will be completely different than what this race was based on. Lamb is very likely to lose a primary challenge this fall. All the special races, including this one, has a great fall off of the GOP vote from other off year mid terms. That vote will return to normal this fall and the dims will be back to where they were after 2014. Absolutely no power. GOP house and a much more red and conservative senate. Your greatest hope at this moment is for Kennedy to quit this spring. You might get a moderate republican. If next year, you probably get a firebreather.

916 Based on the ads I saw this election - everyone knew who Conner Lamb was.. the good looking kid who was in the military and wants to work together versus the guy in the mustache who says Lamb is Pelosi.

As everyone has said - neither winner stays in the house after a redistricting, and so both would have had to run in a new district.

Lamb - if he moves to and runs in the new district will have a voting record and sure some campaign money...

Saccone will hopefully not go run anywhere because he's beatable even as an incumbent. So maybe getting rid of some dead weight now in a meaningless seat.

919 I wouldn't say more republican, but probably not as threatening. Far left is a loser here and a big one (see Hillary, see Obama).

Lamb realized that. He didn't even really campaign on issues as much - just a guy who will get things done and will utilize his military experience. His ads never mentioned Trump at all.

Saccone never brought up Trump either, instead trying to tie Lamb to Pelosi - and that was pretty much all he did. He didn't run as many ads, and the ones he did run didn't mention anything he was for, or anything about Trump. Just Pelosi = bad and Lamb = Pelosi.

920 I do hope two things come up with Lamb in the house.

Gun control bill of some kind and an extension of the tax cuts passed the 10 year window imposed by reconciliation.

The gun control stuff for obvious reasons... Mr big 2A guy will have to put the rubber to the road there.

Lamb did call the tax cuts "crumbs" but backed a bit away, will be funny to watch him squirm on extending those tax cuts

922 At least we can heal this great rift in the nation by coming together to all hate United Airlines for killing a puppy by stuffing it in the overhead bin.

923 If the Democrats take the House, it will be interesting to see if the Blue Dogs vote for impeachment. Nancy might be fine with guys like Lamb disassociating themselves from her now, but you can bet once in power, she'll demand unity, even over issues unpopular back in swing districts. Ask (former) Blue Dogs how that worked out for them in 2010.
