The Morning Rant

talking ape.jpg
"You know the idiot who shot up that school in Florida last week? He broke the law. In fact, he broke a bunch of laws. This is why he is called a "criminal". Criminals break laws. They do not abide by them. So, in the wake of the shootings, why do people, politicians mainly, want to pass more laws? What do they think they're accomplishing? Is the next psycho who gets ahold of a gun suddenly going to put it back down and say whoa, wait, I can't shoot up a bunch of kids because that would be against the law? That's not how criminals think. Because criminals are, by definition, law-breakers. So they will break the new law just like they've broken the other laws that are already on the books. Come on, this isn't rocket science."

Here's a fun article about the National Laughingstock. No, not that National Laughingstock. I mean the national laughingstock, the one that calls itself the Libertarian Party:

The Libertarian Party is as ineffectual as it's ever been and has even managed to regress some...An enclave of stoners, sex hounds, basement-dwellers, pagan ritualists, amateur philosophers, goldbugs, and crypto-currency enthusiasts isn't fit to run a laundromat, let alone a country.

Heh.

I've saved this comment from Trimegestus, who beautifully describes the bifurcated nature of the Libertarian Party:

50 There are really two entirely distinct Libertarian parties, that just happen to use the same name and mailing address.

The first is the Guns Libertarian Party, which believes in the Bill of Rights, Separation of Powers, local autonomy, limited government, private enterprise, and personal freedom.

The second is the Weed Libertarian Party, which believes in legalized weed, polyamory, and maybe internet porn.

The last couple of election cycles have revealed the depressing truth that a lot of people we thought were Guns Libertarians were actually Weed Libertarians.

13 I would be open to considering the outlawing of gun ownership if the progressives would demonstrate that the government can keep pot out of the US for a period of twenty years.

I would also require that if guns are outlawed, private, armed security would also be outlawed, and just to keep our kids safe, I would demand that law enforcement also be disarmed.

After all, if no one has a gun, no one would ever be shot.

But we all pretty much attended the same local churches, and if you stepped out of line, your parents got a call from another parent.

I went to a guy's house when his parents were out of town one night, and we (honestly) watched TV. When I got home, my parents were waiting, furious. A neighbor of the boy's family called my mom.

51 The Aurora batman killer skipped over several other theaters and went to the one further away that "just happened to be" a gun free zone.

The teacher Cruz killed that stood in front of his kids was a security guard also, trained with a gun but not allowed to carry in school, or even have a gun locked in a closet. So he shielded the kids with his body and died, instead of stopping the killer.

Yet the left gets all the coverage to make sure teachers can't defend the kids. And the protests popped up so quickly, they seemed pre-arranged.

It all made perfect sense in the aftermath, but I hadn't given it a second's thought when dropping off a BB gun for a stunt.

Yep, the police were called, he was told he could not complete the school year and graduate with his class.

160 I brought this up over the weekend.

Husband was having lunch with an employee on Friday, and the guy was busy on his phone. Husband asked him what was up, and his employee said, "I'm trolling liberals. I just told some guy I'd give up my guns when his side quits murdering babies."

BOOM.

Dollars to donuts they are lying to protect themselves from a slew of lawsuits that will be incoming. They probably had given him access to the safe.

Regardless, what's the point of a gun safe if you're going to be that careless with the key or combination?

Neither of my young kids has any idea how to get into my gun safe.

And think of it - our dads were WWII and Korean War veterans. Many of them had seen death by gunshot up close and personal. But they weren't running around shrieking about toy guns or real ones because they knew that guns are just tools. For the record, my dad didn't own guns because he said he had enough of them in the service to last a lifetime. But he didn't give a damn if anybody else owned them.

Mattel Shootin' Shell revolvers and rifles. There was a brass cartridge with a spring in it, and a plastic "bullet" that clipped into the spring. A "Greenie Stick'M Cap" went on the flat end of the cartridge. The gun's hammer came down, made a bang against the cap's powder, and the bullet flew out and hit the target while the cartridge stayed in the revolver or rifle.

Just like a real gun, come to think of it.

From zero yards door breaching to doves and clay targets to duck and pheasant to turkey to deer to self defense. A good 12ga can do it all. I had a science teacher who brought in a hand-cranked generator and asked if anyone volunteered to check it out. First guy stuck up hand. No girls offered. Guy grabs electrodes, teacher cranked. Guy drops to knees, unable to let go. Obvious discomfort, because he's being electrocuted.

At that point it was on. Every guy volunteered, not one girl. I did it, dropped to my knees, eyes watered. Could not let go. Impossible.

I learned an extremely valuable lesson about electricity and working safely. A lesson that led to a career.

The girls all ratted out the teacher and he got in some trouble.

Look at their behavior when that Leftist shot-up the Republican softball practice in an attempted mass assassination: giggling and saying, "Oh, we totally don't condone that, but we understand why he wanted to murder a bunch of Republicans," (*wink* *wink*). Then they act all mystified why gun owners don't trust them.

We can go into stats if you want for the destruction that single motherhood enabled and celebrated by the state has done.

Like research shows that the kids do better with the father than the mother. And that single mothers is the #1 predictor out of 29 variables for mental health issues, going to prison, drop out rates, and suffering abuse in the home. The media only highlights when father's do bad things. It's propaganda.

313 From what I have heard the part of the brain that affects decision making isn't fully developed until you're around 25 years old. Thinking back to all the stupid shit I did until I was in my mid 20's its probably correct.

I did dumb stuff too, but then I remember that throughout most of human history, people were married and had children by 25. "Teenagers" were a 20th century invention and now adolescence is being extended until "kids" are almost 30.

My dad had to work to support his widowed mother and younger siblings when he was 19. He worked on their farm during the day and then worked a second shift factory job. At 19, I was a bubblehead. My oldest nephew, who is now 30, is less mature and responsible than my dad was at 19, because he knows mom and dad will still step in to help him pay his bills.

Of course young people are more impulsive than older people are - and that sometimes leads to great things, like Gates dropping out to found Microsoft or young men heading west to settle the frontier. But people live up or down to the expectations society has for them. Nobody expects the yoots today to behave like mature adults so they don't.

315 >>> On the subject of J-Law.... Why so many movies?

Was good in her breakout film Winter's Bone. I do think the Weinstein backing helped. I read somewhere she keeps stealing roles meant for actresses ten years older than her. Could not unsee after I read that. Kinda true! Her characters would make more sense with about 10 more years on them.

316 It somehow seems unnatural for young American men to be passionately anti-gun. I expect young women to be hysterically stupid about guns, but males?
"I don't wanna be armed!!! The police will protect me, although they're racist pigs who shoot innocent blacks!"

Jeez, what a generation of soy boys. I feel terrible for young women with sense. Pickings are slim. (True for sensible young men too.)

317 Our electronics teacher had the hand crank generator. We played electrical chairs. Whole class held hands in a circuit, while the teacher cranked it up slowly, backed it off, sped it up, then whipped it full speed. First to flinch and let go was out. Repeat until 1 boy wins. Played that all year as an after test reward, and the order of dropping out turned out to be identical nearly every time.

That's a strange change from when I was a kid. We had toy guns that were damn realistic looking. Nobody even so much as batted an eye.

My favorite gun was the Johnny 7 in 1 "Screaming MeeMee" gun. It had this orange grenade thing on the front and when you shot it would skip down the driveway going "meeMEEmeeMEEmeeMEEEwawwawwawwaw". It was really fun to shoot at little brothers and cats.

You seem to be very aware of what is happening and not happening in the political arena, Do you follow 'Q' via CBTS? just curious as my son-in-law just told me about this. Very interesting.

320 There were freaks in the 50s and 60s too. But they've all died of AIDS by now.

321 Don't remember who made the distinction, but I remember someone pointing out that the libertarian were divided into the liberty-arians and the libertine-arians.. and that the former were so liberty minded that they weren't willing to defend their own name from the later.

They also aren't willing to defend their paradigm having any power, as they tend to be open borders sorts who'd just end up importing two people who believe exactly the opposite of them for every one of them.

322 271 Isn't using a shotgun to hunt slugs a bit of overkill?

Yeah, but that slug's got a vicious streak a mile wide; it's a killer! He's got huge, sharp -- eh -- he can leap about -- look at the bones!

323 The "Gun-free zone" signs aren't even meant to deter shooters, they mostly seem to be a security blanket for snowflakes so that they feel "safe".

Once more, the Left is all about "muh feels" but short on solutions that actually work. As long as they can feel good about themselves and pretend all's right with the world if nothing breaks their comfortable bubbles and echo chambers, then everything must be fine, right? I mean, Australia's actual homicide rate hasn't really gone down, but the leftards ~feel~ unsafe without those scary guns around.

325 "101 Candace Owens is missing the point. The Left has no interest in stopping shootings or saving lives. They have one interest, indeed one consuming lust -- taking away our guns. OUR guns, not the criminals guns. Until we fully recognize and label, characterize as a matter of course, the Left for who they are and what they really want (not in the bullshit bi-partisan, collegial good-faith bullshit idiom of bullshit cowardly politicians), we will never start to win this thing.

Oh, it's more than that. What they truly lust for is power, it's just guns are one of the barriers stopping them from creating their socialist Disneyworld with the US, i.e., Cambodia 2.0.

326 Just got back from 15:17 To Paris.

I enjoyed parts of it. But honestly, a goodly portion was like watching someone's vacation home movies/slides. There was some character building with the three growing up, and some of that was good. But once they got to Europe, it seemed ... meh.

I'm glad the story is told. And I'm glad it was about those three young men (not about the shooter). And very glad they played themselves. The story-telling on the train was good. But I think there was a lot of filler in that sausage.

(Heck, there's not even a decent love interest, since... Real Life.)

327 We definitely need a new law: They need to require that "Gun Free Zone" signs be placed at closer intervals.

Clearly, the FL shooter didn't see the ones that were posted. Must've walked in between two of them and didn't notice. If only they had more posted, at closer intervals, he'd have seen one and gone back home to torment his foster parents.

328 "what boys did in my day"

We didn't have the goofy orange tips on our fake guns.

And, our fake guns weren't entirely fake - every kid I knew, including myself, had a BB gun and a LOT of ammo.

No one's "eye got shot out".
