Quote of The Day

The Left always looking to ruin everything that isn't miserable. The Zero Population Growth Society.

Back in 1976, the Zero Population Growth society launched an effort to get Valentine's Day rebranded as "Love Carefully Day," as a way to bring awareness to the problem of teen pregnancy.

"Happy Love Carefully Day" doesn't have quite the same ring to it as "Happy Valentine's Day," but their effort must have been somewhat successful, because Google reveals that even this year a few places, such as Allan Hancock College, will hold Love Carefully Day events.

What an awful existence it must be to wake up every morning with a chip on your c*** shoulder. It must be worse to be totally schooled on that chip.

Feminist Accuses English Language Of Being Sexist, Gets Brilliantly Schooled By Linguist.

It started off with a premise that, to be fair, deserves discussion and scrutiny. A Tumblr user, who refers to herself as ‘Feminist Chewbacca’ wanted to discover the root causes of patriarchal domination in society, and turned to the English language to investigate the inherent sexism it allegedly contains.

In these days of fake news and agenda pushing however, it has never been more important to check your facts. This is where Feminist Chewbacca came unstuck. Reblogging a post she had found on Visual Poetry, she had probably not counted on being fact-checked by an actual linguist. Her poorly chosen examples were deconstructed one by one, until she began to look rather basic, and a bit silly.

A bit silly? That's being kind.

In case you missed it. North Korea wins yuuge gold medal.

PYEONGCHANG, SOUTH KOREA — Team North Korea has scored an early success in the 2018 Winter Olympics after winning the Gold Medal for crossing red lines, sources confirmed today.

Crossing red lines, in which competitors try to outdo each other in violating international norms and basic standards of human decency, has been a longtime Winter Olympics sport ever since it was first introduced by Germany in the 1936 Winter Olympics.

Reason #1 why you should swim in chlorinated pools. Meet the Candiru.
The candiru is a tiny, but fearsome, beast that lives in the rivers of the Amazon, and has a penchant for swimming into the human penis.

Of all of the beasts that prowl the Amazon, none is more feared by the locals than the candiru. A river monster feared even above the dreaded piranha; the candiru waits for its unsuspecting prey to step into the river before latching onto it.

It’s also only about an inch and a half long, though don’t mistake its small size for weakness. This little fishy packs a punch

One of New York's finest and a Genius Award Winner.

An NYPD Narcotics detective is in hot water for sending an old buddy a sophomoric, and potentially racist, series of texts about drinking on the job while he was in the middle of a buy and bust operation — not knowing investigators had put a wiretap on his pal’s phone, the Daily News has learned.

“Bring over a few beers,” Detective Ted Holway texted to his friend Paul Barone on March 14, 2015, as he sat in a prisoner van in Staten Island waiting for the operation to end.

The two joked about drinking beer and vodka together, never knowing detectives investigating an illegal gambling ring were watching as the damning texts cycled in, officials said.

In the original US theatrical version, the voice over everyone thinks is Harrison Ford is actually voiced by the actor who played Holden. It even fooled Harrison Ford.

In the Work Print version, the only voice-over narration comes at the end as Dekkard watches Roy Batty die.

Human languages, such as they are, are almost entirely the creation of the matriarchy; the patriarchy has had little or no input.

Remember in The Craft the tall slim brunette? She reminded me of that character. Flowing black lacy black dress with full-lenth sleeves that flared at the wrists. Straight dark brown hair with just enough body touching shoulders. Pale make-up. Dark eyeshadow and dark blue lipstick.

Remarked to a co-worker that I was waiting to see what she summoned.

In several counties in Pennsylvania 70-80% of births are to teenage mothers, but only a small amount of those are unplanned. Both of these statistics are due to the Amish marrying young and encouraging large families.

290 Must be a Windows 10 update in the pipe.

It's a big one. My machine got updated and suddenly I couldn't save to my music mixing program (Reaper). Took me a couple of days to figure out what was going on since I'd never had that problem before. It's because Windows Defender now automatically prevents changes to most of the folders and one of them was my Music folder where I keep the songs I mix for a hobby.

I haven't found a way to disable that on the folders, but you can tell it which apps to allow changes, which I did. Works like it did before and I've created a new folder for all that now.

You'll get a "file not created" warning with programs when you go to save them, but it won't say why. Open Office was another one was affected.

299 "It's a big one. My machine got updated and suddenly I
couldn't save to my music mixing program (Reaper). Took me a couple of
days to figure out what was going on since I'd never had that problem
before. It's because Windows Defender now automatically prevents changes
to most of the folders and one of them was my Music folder where I keep
the songs I mix for a hobby.

I haven't found a way to disable that on the folders, but you can
tell it which apps to allow changes, which I did. Works like it did
before and I've created a new folder for all that now.

You'll get a "file not created" warning with programs when you go to
save them, but it won't say why. Open Office was another one was

340 Cheriebebe, the article about the James Damore is borderline fake news. The author is obtuse.

In spite of Damore withdrawing his NLRB filing in September, the board proceeded to examine and issue its own ruling.... The NLRB emphasized that any charge filed by Damore on the matter should be "dismissed."

Get that? NLRB will dismiss Damore's filing if he ever files it again. But he dropped it months ago.

Damore's lawsuit, which was joined by former Google employee David Gudeman when filed in January, is still awaiting trial.

So, the class action suit is apparently still a go. However, the author doesn't mention this till the very end of the article.

389 380. I can't recall the film - it was a fairly recent one - but one of the characters was an atheist vampire, in consequence of which the cross & holy water had no effect on him. I've long wondered if something like that wasn't at work in the various ghost and revenant legends of different cultures. That is, Chinese Buddhist ghosts act the way they do because that's what's expected of them.

Off topic, but a thing I've just thought of...

Satanists are Christian by the very fact of their acknowledging a God, his Son, a Heaven and a Hell.

...

Last year, Midol Medved tried to interview a Satanist proposing a Satanist Club in some high school in the US. The advocate slipped up and said, paraphrased, 'we don't actually believe in Satan.'

And Midol failed to follow up that intellectual vomit point.

Posted by: Hands at February 18, 2018 12:00 AM (EzdLW)

You can't actually tell it "say this" verbatim. If you could, it's pretty likely that it would trigger itself. On the other hand, when it hears the keyword, it mutes itself, so it would be pretty hard to get it to get stuck in a feedback loop like that.

Funny thing - youtube ads from AMZN that have people demonstrating it will confuse the stupid thing to hell and gone. You'd think they would have thought of that.

466 A most excellent ONT, Mis Hum!

Went to a Pampered Chef party today and there were people there I haven't seen in 30 years, including the RN who took care of my mom when she was dying. My mom loved her and I finally got a chance to thank her for taking such good care of mom - I was too overwhelmed at the time to remember to thank her. The RN got teary-eyed and told me how sweet mom had been even when she was suffering so much. Then I got teary-eyed.

It was a good afternoon. It was great seeing these ladies again. I bought too many kitchen gadgets though - I'm a sucker for that stuff.

It's a discussion about Muzzle Loading Computers, with associated side-topics as to the relative merits of Pyrodex vs. fffG insofar as the muzzle velocity in bytes per second.

Then the conversation spun off with arguments about matchlock vs. wheellock modems and flintlock vs. precussion tape drives.

Of course, the heretics showed up, with their modern, in-line, striker-fired charcoal burning hard-drives, well, that's when the fight broke out.

All threads are gun threads, you see.

486 I sometimes imagine a world much like our own in which we can command a talking voice-activated thing to do something menial for us - like order a pizza. And it can respond to questions, has knowledge of who we are, where we live, and what we want, and can do all these basic things for us. So the thing places the phone call, and speaks to the other end to place its order, expecting another human.

Except on the other end is of course, a talking voice-activated computer receptionist - and so now you have these two computers talking to each other trying to complete a task - in english.

Pointless and inefficient, and yet utterly possible. Actually more than possible - it is frankly quite likely to be rather commonplace soon.

In 1997 a young adolescent candiru, while practicing his upstream swimming, inadvertently became entrapped in the strong urine stream of a Brazilian man urinating in a tributary of the Amazon. Unable to reverse course, the hapless fish followed his initial trajectory, only to become lodged gill-deep in the man's urethra. Both survived. You can tell they know there's nothing they can do but ping at the perimeter with this. They beat this drum because it's a trusty wedge issue.

There would be a great, but totally politically-incorrect cartoon: flaming gay slalom skier presents at ER, with 2 skis, 2 ski poles, half a gate, and a lamp standard all stuffed in his butt. Caption reads: "It was a million-to-one shot, Doc."

543 Tried playing Randy Newman's Louisiana 1927 on guitar tonight. Love the line "the river has busted through clear down to Plaquemines."

I drove through it one time, the place looking about like it must have in 1927, just older.

For this yankee, travels around in the deep south, way back off the interstates, is wondrously strange. What I wonder is how it feels for someone from, say, Section, AL, or Houma, LA to go and hang out in Vermont's northeast kingdom.

Back in the day I rented the downstairs portion of an old house in uptown New Orleans from an old lady whose family hailed from Plaqueimines parish. She lived in the upstairs portion. Her dad was a judge or somesuch. Just a couple blocks from Audobon Park. She had an ankle biter of a Yorkshire terrier. Talked of Plaquemines Parish often.

the local HR office, turfed down from my corporate filing, admitted that i had proved some discrimination in the letter they sent me, but stated that, despite the company AND corporate declaration of ZERO tolerance, that it wasn't "actionable" harassment, and i was let go the next pay day.

nary a lawyer here in SoCal would touch it as a suit. i didn't "have enough evidence", letter and all.

Meh.

1. Only my real grown-up computers have routable IPv6 addresses
2. All my IoT shit only gets v4 addresses and they're all on their own subnet that can only get out through the bastion host
3. All my wireless shit is on a third subnet that is MAC ID locked (spoofable, but it helps) and only connects through the bastion host
4. All of the traffic between the subnets and the routable v4 address is monitored

I have an alarm system and I lock my doors. If someone wants to get in, they'll break the glass door on the deck and come in through the living room. My network has reasonable monitoring and protection. If someone wants my info, they won't snoop around my network to see my live shitposting to AoS, they'll just break into Navy Federal or TD Ameritrade and get my account and ten million others.

If Amazon wants to find out where I live, they'll look at the address on the account and see where all the McVities bikkits and PG Tips get delivered.

621 Vic, good morning. I will have prayers ascending for your surgery. May your surgeons hands be blessed, the anesthesiologists be skilled, and your nurses, angles of mercy, be practicing cheerleading nurses.

622 Good morning!

Let's smile and be happy and strike fear in the heart of killjoy leftists everywhere.

623 goon

Nature is not a friend. Especially in a body of water from pond size up.

Maybe the back story is this is a boat for someone who has been ill, and could not get it out of the water to overturn it.

624 Good morning! About an inch or so of new fallen snow since early evening. Good news though, 42 degrees today and sunny so I don't have to get it off the driveway. Double good news. The last time I ran the snowblower I almost ran it out of gas, so If this is the last of it (knock on wood) I won't have to drain the gas out of it before storing.

The simple things are the best

625 Have a couple of inches of new snow, not that I needed it or anything.

That is good news indeed. If there is no more snow.

627 Just going to clear minimum needed, supposed to be mid 40's today, 50's and rain sometime tomorrow and 70 on Tuesday

That's why I'm knocking. I figure we'll get at least one more before end of March. A nice wet heavy one that makes my snowblower, with the worn out rubber auger, not want to throw it more then feet.

Posted by: Bruce at February 18, 2018 05:46 AM (8ikIW)

630 more then feet.

more then TWO feet

631 Heard yesterday Lindsey Vaughan was doing really well until she wasn't. Haven't watched a second of anything.

632 Well good luck, Bruce. At least 5 more years of cold until the solar cycle gets out of it's trough. If the theorists that are predicting a solar minimum are incorrect.

And think, you are better off than people in International Falls.

My wife tells me the Olympics are on. Don't know.

Saw The 15:17 to Paris last night. Very good movie. It spoke to me in different ways that Sully did, my previous date night movie.

Clint Eastwood is a very good director and producer. The rest of Hollywood, not so much.

638 Or we could be heading into a mini ice age which is my wish to shut those bastards up. I can hear it now, "Carbon causes cooling, stop burning up and making carbon".

I said on this blog in 2009 that we are two volcanic eruptions from disaster. In a solar minimum, we will be rebuilding all those coal plants that pbho outlawed, for the CO2 in the exhaust.

643 If you're going to church today, please pray for your pastor, the associates if there are any, people who teach Sunday school and work with the youth group and any of the musicians. We all need prayer. Pray that anyone attending the service might be uplifted, strengthened by the message-and the Holy Spirit would descend upon the church so that God would be glorified and Christ lifted up. Pastors do pray for the congregants too. you know!
