The study, which screened over 1,000 patients known to have cancer and 815 people presumed to be healthy, found that the test could accurately detect cancer when it existed about 70 percent of the time and accurately did not detect cancer more than 99 percent of the time. The test also gave doctors clues about where to look for a tumor in about 83 percent of the cases used. The types of cancers that could be detected include ovarian, liver, stomach, pancreatic, esophageal, colorectal, lung and breast cancers.

But in a situation like this, I wonder if Trump would have enough of an excuse to step in and institute some form of "citizenship check" before anyone in California could vote in an election that contained any Federal offices.

They locals said that they'd wanted to the new TJs in the neighborhood because it's a good store to have around, and the jobs that the store would provide. We went through that with my dad. The shocking thing was how the DMV was willing to give him a license. He missed almost all the questions on the written test, they gave him a booklet to study so he could retake it. He went through a stop sign in the driving test, they scheduled him to retake it. When they took his picture, he faced the wrong way and they had to yell at him at the top of their lungs and he still didn't turn around. His sight and hearing were terrible.
When he was 90 they gave him a restricted license, we told him that they wouldn't give him a license, and hid all the keys.

No, it's just race war. Gentrification causes property values to go up, which causes the locals to move and usually get replaced by whites with more money (who now want to live in the previously lousy neighborhood). So the community goes from minority to white. The "minority representatives" now have one less geographical area that they can claim to represent, meaning that they now have less power and influence.

At the beginning of our semesters we must review various emergency situations, like fire, weather events, or active shooter situations.
One of my students (possibly a veteran) said that if there is an active shooter, one scenario would be that an armed person might want to try to engage the bad guy.
So I said, yes, and I am okay with sane people in my classroom carrying because if there's a bad guy trying with a gun I hope there will be a good guy with a gun.
Well, another student indicated that he might be carrying and seemed to think he was pretty hot stuff and informed me that the Castle Doctrine says you can shoot someone who is breaking into your car even if you are across the street - that you can use deadly force to protect your property.
I said that did not sound correct. (This is the type of guy who strikes me as a braggadocio.)

California law might allow illegals to vote. But Federal law does not. States have typically had a great deal of leeway in determining exactly how the voting is conducted in their state. But in a situation like this, I wonder if Trump would have enough of an excuse to step in and institute some form of "citizenship check" before anyone in California could vote in an election that contained any Federal offices.

So you are living in a neighborhood. Businesses move in and your property values go up. Now, this may increase your taxes, but your personal wealth has also gone up. There is the rub with any test in medicine. Sensitivity and specificity. Sensitive enough to detect what you are trying to detect (Low levels give a positive result) and specific enough that a positive test means you have detected the thing you intended (Not a false positive).

(because there's no way in Hell that California would allow, say, one of the inland communities to do something like that)

I was reading an article on it. The Dems aren't making any headway with the Trump-is-Racist line--because for black Americans that's the ground pattern. They tend to think an American president IS racist. But they also think the news media is racist--so the barrage of the media has reached saturation already.
Then they start seeing more jobs and start talking to other black people who supported Trump, and they come up with their own conclusion.

We fought a Muslim Worship Center across the street from us on the basis they didn't have enough parking in a residential area. We lost do to the city admins who wanted to be tought of tolerant. This is in N IL.
They said they would have a small imprint, yet a couple of yrs later they wanted to expand. To a large building that wouldn't have fit into the residential character of the neighborhood.
We won that one as there was a sewer line under where they wanted to expand and it wasn't allowed.

When you get older, the dark does get worse. I've noticed this with myself at least in the last year. It takes my eyes much longer to adjust to the dark.

The TX CHL instructor who I support and recommend to folks, has been known to quietly send the Texas Department of Public Safety a "veto" with an applicant's otherwise passing scores in both the classroom and shooting tests.
I don't know if your State's CHL Instructor Protocol allows for such a veto, but it'd be a grand thing if it did.
By the same measure, an individual retail gun salesperson can absolutely refuse to sell a firearm to a customer, if that salesperson has reason to doubt the propriety of the prospective buyer's fitness to be sent out of the store with said firearm.

I've taken some heat here before for saying that some gun owners that I know (and perhaps even a majority) , shouldn't be. They're legal, of course, but they don't possess the judgement or experience to responsibly handle firearms.
That doesn't mean that I think that they ought to be disarmed, just that I don't want to be around them if they are actively in possession of a firearm.

Can't the entire legal framework/court decisions used to make driver's licenses good nation-wide be used to invalidate licenses for illegals? I do know where you are coming from. I have a friend who works there and says the way they issue raises there is the have an employee meeting with all the employees who then vote to affirm or deny an individual a raise. So, if just one of your co-workers doesn't like you and votes no on your raise then no raise for you.

Great idea if you can get it to work. For my dad to quit driving was the beginning of the end of his life. I imagine that was a tough one to swallow.

It's about independence.
Suggestion:
IF they can manage any kind of Smart Phone, download 'em the LYFT app. (UBER has too many data breaches, and their Stasi business culture, withal.)
Then, take them on a day long series of LYFT adventures. To their Dr. appointment. To Wal Mart. To their usual routine.
Show them that for the most part, they can LYFT for less than their annual car insurance, annual registration, fuel and maintenance.
And yet, STILL go WHERE they want, and pretty much, WHEN.
With far greater safety, and zero liability.
It's not guaranteed to work. But, it's a chance worth the effort to try.

My performance review actually stated that, while I had years of experience in the private sector, I was having difficulty with the state worker mentality. It said that out loud and in print. Which meant that I expected better of my coworkers and my lazy boss. Silly me.
There are, indeed, conscientious and capable workers in the government. They are under siege at all times. But they persevere, because it is what we do and who we are.
We don't get promoted, so we don't run things. But we make all that happens, actually happen.

Never seen a Lidl. Aldi is a bit far but it's a blast to walk through when I'm in the area. It's a grocery store as stocked by a loose team of people who hijacked delivery trucks from other local stores 400 miles away in every direction. There will be a pallet of delicious 4 pound swiss cake rolls for $0.19 each and a week later it's like that brand never existed.

A church organization could likely NOT muster the sheer number of active drivers to BE available in MANY areas so as to be RESPONSIVE to the highly randomized manner of "hails" from fares throughout a metropolitan area.
Especially on a 24/7 basis. Much less "surge" conditions.
LYFT, indeed, has the taint of SJW. But not militantly so, per UBER.
This, in addition to the RIGHT EFFIN NOW need to get Gramps outta the car, and we don't have the pipe-dream TIME to wait for a theoretical "church ride share" system to develop in the VERY IMMEDIATE future.

Given that the ride sharing app services already run about 40% less than regular taxis, asking 'em to take yet another 40% divot, just isn't in the cards.
The app drivers are a hair's breadth away from driving for cost as it is, and only the wisest can wrest a greater profit from their efforts, with very astute "availability" times, prime areas, etc.
The "morals clause" might have to clear more court hurdles than the discounts allow. Write THAT one, with extreme care.
But, the aggregated purchasing power of a city wide organization of churches who'd COMMIT to a heavier than general population percentage of churchgoers who'd ROUTINELY USE a LYFT service?
Golden.
THAT could give you some negotiation power.
Trying to develop a separate "Church Ride Share App"....would, I think, end in frustration and tears.
But mostly, bankruptcy.

That's not a Ride Sharing App....that's a Shuttle Service.
There's downloadable scheduling software out there for that, I'm sure.
That said...
I think the concept of independence is the thing that elderly "need their keys taken" drivers have the most problem with, in the transition.
A Ride Sharing (LYFT) program is the MOST independence.
If the Shuttle Service then proves to suit their needs for regular transportation, fine.
But I'll win the bet in this: Getting the keys from them will be easier when demonstrating a "LYFT day with them, vs. trying to get them to arrange a pre-sent "scheduling system" of rides, per a Shuttle System program.
Even the elderly want, on occasion, to try a new restaurant or store, time to time.

So appropriations (a different thing) for border infrastructure would not be affected by budget resolution, beyond the total number given to the function under which it fits (forget the code and title). Budget resolutions don't fund specific activities, appropriations bills do.

CRs dramatically reduce the president's power, and provide cover for congresscritters, who for a decade now have hardly had any key or tough votes to make, whereas their predecessors lived and dies through such votes. The advent of omnibus CRs has dramatically reduced presidential power, and congressional accountability. Come on, Two Scoops, you must have *someone* on your staff with an ounce of strategic sense. Sky's the limit, take on this issue, you'll win, Dems and RINOs will lose, bigly.

But what I'd really like?
A master of the art, to visit me here in Galveston, and show me how to get the best out of my small, home kettle apparatus.
I'm unique, in that my only interest would be to make enough for +/- my annual consumption, to be barreled and aged for my own, personal use.
It is an art that I'd want to acquire for teh Burning Times, but to stay in practice as needed, so as to never run out, before then.
I haven't the slightest interest in selling so much as a single shot to the market.
Reloading ammo is a great thing. Reloading 1.75 ml. empty bourbon bottles is a GREAT thing.

Turns out I do already own some shares in it, owing to the fact that another company I bought stock in got RTO'd. The weed wranglers will have to go to $3.00 per share for me to recover my initial investment. I don't think I am going to buy any of the new issue. Too much hype.

According to Jerry Pournelle, Le Guin was the single person most responsible for turning SFWA into the SJW shithole it is today. Way back in the beginning it was just a way for science fiction writers to deal collectively with publishers and also provide a pool for health and life insurance.
Le Guin, who was one of the bigger authors, threatened to quit if fantasy writers weren't included, so the then-board reluctantly made the change. There are about 10 fantasy writers for every hard sci-fi writer. The fantasy writers changed the rules such that you didn't need to have published novels to join - all you needed was published short stories.
Over time the leadership of the organization was taken over by part time writers with almost no output, and these people started to use the organization to push their (always leftist) political causes.

I don't know about the Whole Foods/Amazon shortage thing. We had about two solid weeks of miserable cold with some snow thrown into it. Nobody felt like leaving their homes to go grocery shopping. I went into my local Acme the first decent day and they were absolutely decimated, too. I'd never seen so few eggs available. Just about everything on my list was out or just about out.
Inventory control systems can't predict weather. I've written inventory control software and of the dozen or so variables involved in stocking levels, lead times, priority codes, etc... weather isn't included.
But reporters gonna report, and mostly miss the actual story.

It was a natural response to tight money and low profits. In principle it works great. I used to have a tractor trailer deliver an entire truckload of raw materials in the morning and have another tractor trailer take away finished goods at the end of the day.
Why were there ever outages of an item? The usual suspects that software can't detect like waste, damage, theft, wrong item delivered, etc. Which always led to the ankle-biters saying, "How come your computer didn't know that, smart guy?"

I may have exaggerated how bad my hunting was, but they all know what's going on.
The hunting I had some success with was ducks. I would kayak up through salt marshes and the headwaters of a freshwater river with a shotgun across my lap ready to pick it up as I sneaked around a bend. As sneaky as I was, the ducks would always flee the second I came around the bend. I got a good bunch of them and they tasted good, but most of them got away.
Then I'd go back to a dock near a road where you're not allowed to murder them and they'd just swim around making taunting noises.
They all know the rules.

I grew up in the Catskill moutians of NY and as a new hunter of 14, I had to go with my dad. But I was mostly alone and hearing shooting in all directions from mostly NYC area hunters was scary as hell. Not sure those hunters knew which end of the gun pointed at what ever that moved.

Why were there ever outages of an item? The usual suspects that software can't detect like waste, damage, theft, wrong item delivered, etc. Which always led to the ankle-biters saying, "How come your computer didn't know that, smart guy?"

In theory -- we'll take a grocery store for example -- every time someone purchases an item the inventory system should deduct one from count on hand and know quantity on hand which trips a flag when that number goes below some preset level. There should be no reason for anyone to walk around with a hand held scanner. But they all do. Because grocery stores are rampant with shop lifters.

It doesn't entirely creep me out because I have no sense of privacy and I don't think anyone is really paying attention to me, it's just bots doing bot stuff.
My favorite example is from a few years ago when I did some mad internet dating after a bad breakup. There was a Polish girl. I said "this is weird, I know where you live, I know where you work, we've had sex, but I don't know your last name". She said "let's keep it that way".
Fine. Whatever. A few months later Facebook said "do you want to be friends with Elizabeth HerRealLastName?"
