And then I went berserk (which is JUST EXACTLY what you should do when someone is waiting to talk to you about your son's behavior).
Gingy and I were standing to the right of the group of scouts, who were seated on the floor wrapping up their meeting. We were right by the door, which was open because it is a fairly mild night. The Scoutmaster is holding an eagle feather and talking to the boys about a pair of bald eagles they had observed on their last trip, a nesting pair that had been there for the last 5 years, their egg laying habits, etc..etc..good, Boy Scout stuff. And then he said " Back in the 60s and 70s, the eagle population was in trouble because their eggs were being damaged by humans using a chemical called DDT..".
I saw red. Literally. I pushed off from the wall, stormed out of the building. Once I was outside, I started pacing, angrily, muttering to myself (not quietly, I'm afraid, I'm sure some people in the church could hear me) "I can't believe they are teaching that fucking bullshit Silent Spring crap...." My wife followed me out.
"DID YOU HEAR..?"
"Shut up"
"BUT THAT'S.."
"Shut. It.";
"..."
She went back in, embarrassed (fair). I stormed around the building five or six times, trying to cool off. Then the meeting ended and we had our meeting about proper behavior at scouting events (awk-ward...)
I apologized to the Scoutmaster. I was out of line. It probably only happened because I hadn't eaten yet, and this was well after 8, but that's no excuse. And I DID leave, rather than making a scene at the meeting.
But I'm sorry, Rachel Carson is one of the top 4 or 5 most evil people of the 20th century. Fine, Hitler, Stalin, Mao, worse, got it, but the death toll from Carson's absolutely false, scientifically refuted, and utterly discredited Silent Spring dwarfs Hitler, and probably the other 2 as well. Carson vies with Margaret Sanger for 4th, and it's a pick 'em. And it CONTINUES TO THIS DAY! Millions of people, most of them children, die of malaria in Africa every year because of her lying screed. I couldn't have been more shocked if the Scoutmaster had assigned The Communist Manifesto as required reading for the Citizenship in the Nation badge. I have Little in Scouts because I expect them to teach him good, traditional values, and this had the same effect on me that a priest in his pulpit reading verses from The Satanic Bible might have on a devout churchgoer.
All in all, not a good night.

Back in the early 1970s, my parents actually ordered the Columbia House Collection that was I think 3 or 4 LPs long, Greatest Hits of the 60s (at least I think that was the title).
Only later on did I realize, it was a compilation only of artists on CBS records.
Having said that however, there were some great songs on it, including "I Don't Wanna Play House" by Tammy Wynette, "Little Green Apples" by O.C. Smith, "Sunny" by Bobby Hebb... it was a nice, well-rounded compilation IMHO.

Sam Raimi created a Xena spin-off show called Cleopatra 2525 that used a modified version of that song for it's intro theme. He took the Xena recipe: scantily clad babes, action and humor but put it in sci-fi. Only lasted a few episodes but I liked it.
I'd pretty much watch anything from Sam Raimi. The man has a lock on my entertainment preferences.

What's weird is, I kind of like the melody and even the lyrics, but the instrumentation just sounds incredibly screechy and maudlin IMHO.
Kind of similar with Joe Meek and The Tornados' 1962 hit, "Telstar." (Which btw, is considered the *very first* British Invasion hit.) Good grief, that Clavioline synthesizer they used sounds to me like a billion flies buzzing at once. Yeesh!
I wasn't surprised when I learned that Joe Meek was more or less certifiably insane and killed himself in 1967, after murdering his landlady. (Didn't help that his Telstar royalties were tied up in British court for years.)

Dad had been transferred by his company, and I knew I would soon be leaving my friends, my school, my life. That this moment happened while the sun was setting over Rattlesnake Mountain only made it more poignant. 1975 was a tough year for me.

Yeah paranoid was great. I didn't last too long with Sabbath though, I heard the RUSH 2112 album and I went off on a 5 year heavy RUSH binge, then thank god the British wave of metal hit just around the time RUSH was going soft. I DO really like the DIO era Sabbath, that was some killer stuff.

It's not that the MU-2 was a particularly lethal airplane, in and of itself.
But, it really demands "jet" levels of training and familiarization to master it's high landing speeds, unique "engine out" procedures and other bits that the average General Avation, VFR & Twin Rated pilot, might not yet possess as "tools & skills".
Given that his mind and fingers could process notes with the pick n' fretboard faster than the eye could see... I think him "staying ahead" of the MU-2 wasn't really a challenge.
Other pilots who'd flown with him, report an utterly smooth flying experience, a professionally handled aircraft, pre-flight planning and dead-on the numbers navigation and airmanship.
The late, great Arnold Palmer had the same reputation, flying his own Learjet in his tournament heyday.
Often, extreme greatness in one area paves the way for the same, in other arenas.
I don't think Mr. Clark does his own flying anymore.
But I'd imagine he can still send a guitar on heavenly flights of musical glory.

Sorry LP, got to the party late. If you digitally scan in the original pencil illustrations, you can adjust the highlight mid tones and shadow levels in Photoshop. From there you can do color shifts, overlays, etc. hope this helps.

I started using his pickups in 1981. I think I have over 60 of them stashed away in a huge box. Those things were a godsend back then. They were quiet. I was using dimarzio, but they were always muddy squeal pigs. That first Duncan pickup was life altering. lol

When Grunge hit, lots of good bands either broke up, tried to "go Grunge", or fading into obscurity. True, a lot of the "hair Metal" bit the dust, but by 1990, they were already fading, with 1990 being a great year musically (Slayer's "Seasons in the Abyss", Megadeth's "Rust in Peace", Anthrax's "Persistence of Time", one of Judas Preist's two flawless albums, "Painkiller", &c., &c.)
One of the reasons it was so bad was that (most) people then didn't have the luxury of online resources to find anything good. The Metal mags disappeared, Headbanger's Ball was unceremoniously yanked, KNAC went off the air, and any old tape trading circuits had generally fallen off the face of the Earth for the most part.
As bad as today's pop-music is, there are plenty of ways to find the good stuff. Heck, YouTube has actually been a boon for lots of good bands starting out, and for older bands to (re)introduce themselves.

It is far more insidious than this, and much worse than most have dared imagine.

Thus, a Democrat controlled, firehose of money goes directly into those contested districts, ALL of it favoring various SJW "Help the Immigrant" programs, Voter Registration (D)rives, and other flow(s) of moneys, 98% of which, directly boosts liberal priorities of every kind.
AND THEN, when the Every Decade Census actually happens? Even though New Immigrant Suarez can't vote, she and her 10,000 fellow arrivals, can rip away the representation from some small, rural CONSERVATIVE district, and add a newly gerrymandered seat right smack dab into the center of a Democrat controlled Welfare Economied Stronghold.
Who needs "votes", when you can shift whole Congressional districts, just by bussing in such illicit, wholesale population changes?

Crafting a single is hard enough. Crafting a whole album like, oh, Operation Mindcrime or even The Black Parade or even just Nelson's After the Rain is a whole 'nother level of skill.
I love a good album but I mostly have to settle for singles. Most seem to have some 'filler' or worse.

The 90's was ok. There was some good stuff coming out, just not as much as during the previous decades. Grunge was ok, too. 90's grunge was not exactly my cup of tea, but I have to take a certain amount of responsibility for it. The 90's wasn't as eclectic as it used to be.

Well the good thing about Napster et al is that it exposed a wide variety of people to music that might not otherwise be able to afford. Some of them did in fact buy the albums they downloaded.
But it borked the previous (gross and unfair as it was) set up for the record labels. Record labels stopped looking for new talent or it sure seemed that way.
Hell, there are hardly any new bands compared to the mid-90's. We used to stumble upon folks learning to play in every damn coffee house from Spokane to Seattle. Now it's pretty thin on the ground, musically.

Better still, there is usually plenty of suggested bands, also with their entire discography listed.

On the PBS Masterpiece series, 'The Duchess of Duke Street' (about a poor woman rising up and running a posh hotel in London pre- through post WWI), it showed how the government was trying to take in Belgian refugees after the Germans invaded at the beginning of the war. The German atrocities then committed have now been largely forgotten but they were a foreshadowing of things to come decades later. So the British government had a big push to have people 'take in a Belgian refugee' into their homes. The Duchess takes one into her hotel, whom she then always refers to as "'My little Belgie." I think the Belgie committed suicide, something to do with witnessing/surviving said atrocities, and the Duchess took in no more Belgian refugees. Suicide is very bad for business.

The White House has not denied Trump made the comment, only clarified what he meant by it.
Which of course, is not what the press is running with...they are using it as saying he is racist (my word, not theirs...but same difference.) And that Trump only wants white people.

Aside from Cruz it was a very sad field - and he had his clear issues as well.
And the main reason Trump got the nom and the WH was the jaw-dropping fact that he simply addressed, vigorously, the main issues of the day, which the GOP has not, and continues to refuse to do. In the astonishing situation of the world's greatest country having a political class fanatically unwilling to deal with the issues of the day, Trump was not a hail-mary, he was an obvious rational choice.
There was not gaffe. However there has been - amazingly - a very limp and lazy communications and political approach on the central issue of mass illegal migration and rule of law. Tonight Trump's tweet, which I quoted above, was an example of of what has been lacking. And it is (uncharacteristic, obviously, for Trump) far too understated. Sad!
There should have been, and still must be, a relentless political offensive to force the opposition - and useless GOP incumbents - to take their toxic, indefensible stands (in favor of crime, lawlessness, race-baiting, and everything else that make up the essence of mass illegal migration).
Trump and co. should establish and maintain such a sustained barrage of ruthless invective against the idiots that they can't catch their breath. Should have done if from the outset. There has never, in decades, been such a perfect alignment, an identity, of good politics and good policy.
In such an environment, today's non-event would be even less consequential than it is (and it's inconsequential).

It's strange to me that people were quite aware of his faults and even said as much on this Board, but voted for him b/c he was not Hillary. Period. And hoped that risk was worth it.

After seeing restaurant employees shitting behind the restaurant where he was eating and not washing their hands afterwards, he stopped eating out altogether and hired a private cook to prepare all his meals at home. But even after doing that, he frequently got food poisoning and terrible diarrhea. Violating every rule of decorum in Islam and Bangla culture, he flat-out asked his cook if she washed her hands after she took a shit. She had no idea what he was talking about; not only did she not wash her hands after taking a shit, she apparently NEVER washed her hands. "Wash my...hands?" she asked, mystified as to the purpose of such a bizarre-sounding infidel ritual.
After that, he literally just bailed on the whole job, and returned home five months early; he just couldn't take it there one more day.

Whatever album sales are lost through downloading (and I don't think they are, in the end) it's more than made up for in the increase in live tickets that all the people who download the albums free want to go see (and have to pay for).
Bands are richer, now, and making more money than they ever did. Some of it is because the online sales are total highway robbery (basically charging the same prices for files as they did for vinyl or CDs) but more is because for every few people who download some music they spread the band's fame and spur others to buy the overpriced mp3s and pay for concerts.
The same way that video rental stores and video duping never slowed down video sales, so does online downloading help bands, in the end. And if they ever put the prices for the mp3 or flac files at the appropriate level then no one would even bother downloading their stuff on the side.

I remember reading a science fiction short story, about an astronaut on the Moon, armed, because there was a threat of alien invasion. He is in the mountains, and meets an alien, who makes a seemingly hostile move, so he fires a shot from his rifle, but misses the alien. It then develops that the alien is in distress or something, and wants to communicate. They make tentative moves to reach some sort of truce. And then the rifle slug, which orbited the Moon, returns, and kills the alien dead.

You could get close. WIth artillery, IIRC, it would be possible to hit any target anywhere from anywhere.
Now, at the surface, you got all the mountains and that. Plus, the Moon's gravitational field is fairl "lumpy", deviating from pure spherical inverse square enough to make orbits really chaotic close in.
Such would make it bit different, but it would still be fun.

A possibility. Long-term history does say it would even be probable. Shorter term has been quite a bit better. Based on the trajectory of States' legislatures over the last decade, and the fact that the Republicans actually gained ground in Bush 43's, 1st term, and finally lost control in 2006 (correct?)...I would say that even if the dems retook the Senate, your 2024- or longer scenario seems quite pessimistic.
As long as our economy is good, it will be hard for the dems to make great strides.

There are some local "micro-distillers" that have popped up, what with the new state rules (I don't know the details), and they make legal "moonshine" of a few varieties -- even sell it in Mason jars -- but it ain't like the real thing.
Most of the fun is knowing it's illegal.

I think it depends on which asshole/not entirely asshole you deal with.
I got the first beer brewing licence on record in SC, since colonial times. The ATF in Atlanta were very cool; the state people not so much, because they didn't want to admit that they didn't know what to do or how to tax it.
When I got the federal license from ATF, I also asked for that to be included in my previous license to import wine from Hungary.
Later, I looked at the fine print and found that I was also a Federally licensed Category 1 importer-which includes firearms!

So they expand the Audubon Zoo in NOLA and add a swamp exhibit. Gave the Netrias a nice swampy area with button willows, lily pads, etc. They ate it, they ate every damn thing in the exhibit. Now it is just a concrete lined pool-like area and they throw limbs and shrubs in there from their arborist and they eat it.
