I got obsessed with this guy last night. He's the meanest guy on the Internet. Some of his cracks are funny not because they're funny but only because they're so uncalled-for mean.
He goofs on Crossfit constantly. He was talking about some skinny guy who "has no gains" at Crossfit and commented on the guy's t-shirt: "I didn't know that t-shirt came in size Extra-AIDS." Stuff like that. His catchphrase is "ZERO," which he says when counting reps of an exercise. Because most of the people he goofs on never actually complete a single correctly-performed rep, he just counts each as "Zero, zero, zero." The proximate blame is for whoever was coordinating the investigation in the Northwest of anti-government groups.
My memory is that the FBI was getting agents into every anti-government group. The spotted Weaver at some such group, noticed he wasn't happy with the message being presented.
So they asked him to be their mole. He said no. They demanded he be their mole. He said hell no.
Then they started a sting operation where they got him for having a shotgun marginally below the legal limit. The local cops offered to bring him in and the feds told them they would handle it.
The fed showed up with a strike team that followed Weaver on a hunt with his son...because obviously that is the best time to arrest someone...when they are waking around armed.
They killed the dog, the kid killed the agent that killed the dog, and the feds killed the kid. They then got a shoot to kill order for everyone at Weaver's house and shot his wife in the head.
Weaver eventually surrendered and...the result was...no conviction of Weaver, no charges for the guys who started the crap, and no charges for the fed that shot Weaver's unarmed wife in the head.
It was disgusting...

.Those domestic numbers are suspect. They tend to inflate the actual number by not weeding out repeat incidents. I knew one woman who filed at least two dozen abuse reports about her boyfriend and refused to swear out charges for any of them even with the DA pushing her.
She was a frequent flyer with the local Police who had to respond every time she called them and they knew nothing was happening but they had to respond and arrest the guy.

The way it's stated, that does not necessarily mean that 1/4 marriages include domestic violence. Just that 1/4 women experience domestic violence at some point in their life. You don't need to be married to be a victim of domestic violence, so I'd hazard a guess that most of that 1/4 of women experience that domestic violence before they're married.

My guess is that its the same sloppy statistics as the divorce numbers. They come up with that 50% by counting all the divorces up and dividing by people married.
When the truth is that some people get divorced many times, skewing the numbers heavily. That doesn't mean the average marriage has a 50% chance of divorce, it means some people get a lot of divorces.
So if one woman has 5 different abusive boyfriends, and they count that as a total among all women instead of one instance of a woman being abused, they're getting huge numbers that are false.

Its not so much an issue in modern warfare, but it used to be the basic doctrine that you do not kill the enemy, you just break them. Armies would meet and fight until one side or the other lost the will to fight. The numbers didn't matter, if handled well (Alexander defeated an army ten times his size, for example). All you have to do is break them.

I admittedly have known a couple of instances of some real bad stuff happening. Knew one black guy who was pretty popular with the ladies, besides the one he was living with. He was an athletic guy, she wasn't very big at all, but damn did she have a bad attitude. I agree. I'd imagine there is 25% of 2% of 1% of the country that could be as strong or even a bit stronger than most average guys with a paunch who don't do much but hunt and fish and work all day in non-office jobs.
One of the bestest looking, most fittest 28 year olds I know is incredibly weak in real-life situations requiring physical strength that a bunch of 40-50 year old guys who haven't seen the inside of a gym in 30 years can do fairly easily. I really don't know how that's possible.

I went to Basic and AIT with a guy who almost literally could not hit the broad side of a barn from 50 meters with an M16. Eventually he passed his qualification. Ended up going to OCS, and last I heard was a Major (this was some years ago).

There's a big difference between being physically fit and being tough. And strength doesn't have to look shredded. I remember well the best world record weight lifters would look like these big fat dough bodied guys. They were hugely strong, just not cut.

Could I ask a favor. Last night we were dining with our pastor when he received a call that a parishoner's 14yr old son committed suicide. Fr. left to be with the family.
Certainly prayers for the family who lost their son. But as I drove home, I was thinking how hard it has to be as a pastor to be with a family in such an awful situation - even with the deceased still present. How often do we think of the emotional experiences our faith leaders endure, how it affects them. May I ask for prayers for my pastor, and thanksgiving to all who answer His call.

Training someone to fight is more than just teaching them how to hit someone. Its not impossible to turn a loser into a warrior -- the military does so professionally. But that's a whole different ballgame than just teaching them how to use weapons.
Its a mindset, a worldview, and shifting one's perspective. Its not impossible someone could be trained, but it takes a different approach entirely from what the left offers.

I look weak, unless you look closely at the muscle mass in my back, legs, and working areas of the arms.
Personal defense is about understanding what your body can do, and doing it.
I will never be the kickboxer I was prior to my injuries in the army, so I don't think about kicking...
I think about "using the force" in a choke hold if need be with my hands that used to do 40 fingertip push ups at a time.
if you are too weak to play hand to hand, buy a gun, if you can't buy a gun get an ASP if you can't legally carry an ASP, get a taser, if you can't use a taser carry a taped roll of quarters....
