Quotes of The Day

Quote I

"I think it's so irritating that once I die, 55 percent of my money goes to the United States government. You know why it's so irritating? Because you already paid nearly 50 percent when the money was earned."Oprah Winfrey

Quote II

“Californians deserve a choice in this year’s crucial election and it’s a mistake to allow Gavin Newsom to cakewalk right into the governorship without a fight,” Melanie Morgan

Quote III

“No matter how worthy the cause, it is robbery, theft, and injustice to confiscate the property of one person and give it to another to whom it does not belong” Walter E. Williams

Problems facing the working man and woman? Human slave trade? Unaffordable health insurance? No FFS. Rotisserie chickens.

Rotisserie chickens — those $5.99 (or less) already cooked birds that supermarkets sell — are in the news. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Americans bought well over 600 million of them last year alone, more than any other year. Our consumption of rotisserie chickens has continually increased since they became a supermarket staple in the 1990s, yet their price has not increased. Grocery stores don't want to raise their prices.

How do we know that our country is soft and lazy? When intellectually fat writers bitch about rotisserie chickens, their content and their packaging.

A fart app.

Scientists often hope to break ground with their research. But a group of Australian researchers would likely be happy with breaking wind.

The team developed an ingestible electronic capsule to monitor gas levels in the human gut. When it’s paired with a pocket-sized receiver and a mobile phone app, the pill reports tail-wind conditions in real time as it passes from the stomach to the colon. The researchers, led by Kourosh Kalantar-Zadeh of RMIT University and Peter Gibson of Monash University, reported their invention Monday in Nature Electronics.

Why feminism isn't gaining steam? Because it grows crazier and more grotesque as time flies by.

Feminists hate religion because it is the guardian of the family. They hate men because they are women’s partners in the family enterprise. And above all, they hate children and wish to maintain the legality of killing them in the womb because children complete families. Feminism, at least in its modern incarnation, is grounded in hate and violence.

"Neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of night, Nor bare chested passengers. Shall keep these Uber drivers from their appointed rounds.

A couple in suburban New Orleans have been accused of luring an Uber driver to their home to rob him - and having the woman distract him by opening the door topless.

Anthony Kennedy, 24, and Rayna Fillios, 22, were arrested on Saturday night in Harahan, Louisiana, after the unidentified victim escaped the would-be robbery, Harahan Police Chief Tim Walker said.

The victim told officers he gave his telephone number to Fillios when she hailed a ride, and she later called asking him to come over.

What is good for the goose ought to be good for the gander. Unless you're an elected official in Oregon.

We didn't dream up this idea on our own. We got our inspiration from the Portland police.

Back in March, the police swiped the trash of fellow officer Gina Hoesly. They didn't ask permission. They didn't ask for a search warrant. They just grabbed it. Their sordid haul, which included a bloody tampon, became the basis for drug charges against her (see "Gross Violation," below).

The news left a lot of Portlanders--including us--scratching our heads. Aren't there rules about this sort of thing? Aren't citizens protected from unreasonable search and seizure by the Fourth Amendment?

The Multnomah County District Attorney's Office doesn't think so. Prosecutor Mark McDonnell says that once you set your garbage out on the curb, it becomes public property.

"She placed her garbage can out in the open, open to public view, in the public right of way," McDonnell told Judge Jean Kerr Maurer earlier this month. "There were no signs on the garbage, 'Do not open. Do not trespass.' There was every indication...she had relinquished her privacy, possessory interest."

If you are claiming to be a mental health practitioner, Don't you think you should be licensed?

Yale University psychology professor Bandy Lee has deleted her Twitter account amid mounting allegations that she is not licensed in her home state of Connecticut.

Accusations have been circulating on Twitter that the prominent Yale professor, known for her public diagnosis of President Donald Trump as having a “mental impairment” and who recently met with lawmakers on Capitol Hill to discuss the issue, isn’t actually a licensed psychiatrist.

Donald Trump was elected POTUS over a year ago. He has been in office nearly a year. It's about time these fruitcakes come to grip with the the last stage of the 5 stages of grief. Acceptance.

To the Mary Cloggenstein and other Leftists who peruse The ONT, if you think business owners are going to tax increases up the a$$ you have another guess coming.

Update: The owner of Mike's Pizzeria has elaborated on the business and name changes, saying it will keep costs down so customers won't have to pay higher prices. "I pay my employees well," he tells syracuse.com.

Earlier:

Last year, there were more than 40 Mark's Pizzeria locations in Upstate New York. Today, there are exactly 29 -- a number aimed at avoiding the higher minimum wage.

The Auburn Citizen reports the Mark's Pizzeria in Skaneateles quietly changed its name to Mike's Pizzeria last month. Technically, it's a new business, but Mike Harvard and Jamie Schneider are still slinging pizzas in the same location they've co-owned since 2003.

In the category of: You can't make this shit up. Tech show loses power.

Journalists, industry heads, and tech enthusiasts descended on Las Vegas this week for the annual CES showcase of bleeding-edge electronics. On Wednesday, everyone gathered around giant gleaming TVs, strapped on VR headsets, played fetch with robot dogs, and then the power blew out.

Roh-ro. Dogs do what dogs do. Chase cats.

A whole pack of hunting hounds in pursuit of both a fox and deer thundered through an animal sanctuary, displacing more than 60 terrified animals during their evening feed.

The pack of hounds tore through the Celia Hammond Animal Trust, which provides shelter for 130 rescued animals, many of which are unwell and or in the later years of life and difficult to rehome.

The shelter mainly cares for cats, 60 of which fled the chaotic scene as volunteers and police both battled to chase the pack of hounds away from the cats on Monday.

I understand that John McCain has a burr under his saddle about Donald Trump. I think we all get that.

How much of McCain's disdain of Trump lead to the Russian collusion story? John McCain sleaze operator or unwilling dupe?

EILAT, Israel — The founders of the controversial opposition research firm Fusion GPS admitted that they helped the researcher hired to compile the infamous, largely discredited 35-page dossier on President Donald Trump to share the document with Sen. John McCain.

The goal of providing the dossier to McCain, the Fusion GPS founders explained, was to pass the information contained in the questionable document to the U.S. intelligence community under the Obama administration.

Want a beer? Want to become a Genius Award Winner?

Maybe he just really needed a beer.

Zachary Samaha, 22, allegedly stole a Sacramento Police Department squad car Saturday evening. Chris Marzan, a bystander who apprehended him, said the barefoot Samaha drove the car to A-1 Market Liquor off of Florin Road and was heading out of the store with a 40-ounce bottle of beer he had already opened.

Marzan ordered Samaha to the ground and summoned officers, who soon arrived to take the young man to jail. Marzan said in an interview with The Bee on Sunday morning that he’s “kind of a magnet” for mayhem and has performed four or five other citizen’s arrests for domestic violence, driving under the influence and credit card theft.

Rotisserie chicken. So what is the gal complaining about? He is essentially saying that they have been bred to have large breasts (not illegal by any means.) 136 >>>Why feminism isn't gaining steam? Because it grows crazier and more grotesque as time flies by.

I'd like to generalize this. It's a liberal problem, not specifically a feminist problem. Liberals don't like people who will disagree with them. So, they desire their countrymen to die off and be replaced with third world serfs who will not question them. Feminist liberals hate men because they have a different psychology and set of values, therefore they must be destroyed. Homosexual liberals hate straights because straights won't have sex with them, and might also think what they do is immoral.

Liberals are not libertarian. That's why they have a gerbil up their ass about other people.

171 Baby Sister-Related

One of the things with which I struggle regarding Joyce is the balance between optimism and pragmatism.

Last evening, we attended the viewing for a dear friend's MIL, who lost a very short battle with the same diagnosis.

So, I *know* that it's unlikely that my sister's story will have a "happy ending."

OTOH: I *know* that prayer works, and so I try *very* hard to keep my updates as realistic as possible. At the same time, I really don't want to paint an unrealistic picture. I understand that, someday, one evening's Update will be the last.

I dread that, but I *expect* that. I ask in advance for your understanding.

Thank you all.

179 Case in point—during last January’s Women’s Marches, organizers excluded a group of Texas-based feminists because of their pro-life stance. The organizers had to enforce orthodoxy, you see, and their orthodoxy is so narrow that it would exclude the famous suffragette Susan B. Anthony if she were alive today.

From linked article.

The term feminism has been hijacked...it has been insanely twisted. I don't know what we have now, but it is not feminism. It's like everything in the progressive movement, they re-define words to fit their purposes. There is nothing feminine about today's feminism. In fact, it's turned feminine into a bad word. Just like being "white" has been turned into an evil race.

The progressives co-opt and corrupt everything.

well, the ugly reality is that most rotisserie chickens come to the US through the illegal rotisserie trade. They are smuggled in by coyotes after paying fees with the promise of free medical, education, weak law enforcement only to be sold into sex slavery before winding up in illegal unregulated, non kosher rendering plants.

which is why the deferred action for chicken adolescents was ordered.

327 Anonosaurus, Marty was a hilarious example of Hollywood accounting gone wrong.

Columbia Pictures had made more money than they were expecting to that year, and they decided to throw a ton of money into a box-office bomb so they could write it off and get money back rather than write the big check that they were looking at at the moment.

They grabbed a script from the TV show American Playhouse, and re-wrote it for a feature-length film. And they cast Ernest Borgnine and Betsy Blair, both of whom were rather plain-looking, figuring nobody would pay money to look at a couple of not-gorgeous people falling in love.

Unfortunately for Columbia, they were wrong, wrong, wrong. The movie was well-written, the actors turned in great performances, and average people really responded well to a romantic drama with average-looking stars.

The movie was a huge hit, and Columbia had to shell out way more money for taxes than they'd originally been looking to dodge.

So, aggressive flirting? Is that like creepy flirting- or just unwanted flirting? I have known ladies who were upset when you did NOT flirt.

"Sexual advances" covers a lot of territory as well. Asking them to coffee? Or did he pull the old college douchebag joke: "Nice shoes, let's -"

They've got that Durango and Silverton railroad schedule so screwed up, you can basically only get on at one spot and ride back to there, even if you choose the bus-one-way option. I wanted to round-trip from the other end, and they don't make that easy. Seems odd.

Now that all Colorado is all about the pot, I don't know if I'll make it back.

413 I just had the saddest phone call. Old friend of mine from work, my boss for a while, is long divorced and remarried. His wife, a recently-retired high level fed exec, had a son from her first marriage. And, he dropped dead, at 36.

Not a lot of clues. He drove up to a friend's house, slumped over the steering wheel, and his brain stopped getting oxygen. Hale and hearty, no history, two kids and a newborn. And he was close with my friend, and the absolute apple of his mother's eye.

As it stands, the local medical authorities say that there is probably nothing to be learned from an autopsy after being on life support for a while. I don't know how you can take not knowing what happened. Now that is a modern attitude -- up until recently in our history, people just died. And you took it.

I had a Beer Sack once. Made in England. A burlap bag, lined with plastic, pre-loaded with malt extract. You boiled up water and the hops provided, let it cool a bit, added the yeast packet, and poured it into the top of the bag, and sealed it. Hang from ceiling in basement. about 3 weeks later, you had a very drinkable clear brown ale from a tap positioned a few inches from bottom of sack. They quit selling them in Canada; don't know why. They were the shiznit.

421 When the store bought rotisserie chickens come in the 7 lb. size, let me know. I'll buy the Mesquite BBQ variety.

And anyway. My roasted chicken is so damn good, I really don't need the store-bought, except as a very last minute time-saver.

It's just that the 5 ish pound birds on offer, don't provide enough for two meals, for two.

Those are VERY small legs, thighs and wings. Which, are my preference, as that's where all the real flavor is to be found.

And beyond the 7 lb. roasting hen? Go buy a 9 to 12 lb. Capon. Rooster, castrated when still young.

That is a very, very tasty bird, and a good alternative to a small turkey, too.

Holidays on the boat, I used to roast a quad of Cornish Game Hens.

Two each, for the feast.

And festive, did tend the evenings after the dinner be.

But, I was single then, and sworn to secrecy, now and 'evermore.

So awful. I think I'd have to know though. Wouldn't an autopsy show something with heart or brain? Maybe it is easier for his parents not to know. But maybe his wife and children will want to know. Especially the children as they grow older.

440 Stringer.

Prayers, amigo, are sent to you and your world of family and friends.

Lost a boss 'bout a decade back. Very fit man, mid '60s. 1st Cav., Vietnam Combat Vet, owned the GMC/Pontiac/Buick dealership in his town.

Out dining with wife and other couple, and *click*, face down into plate of food in an instant.

EMS could not revive, and the hospital got him onto life support STAT.

For all the efforts, he was gone, unplugged the 2nd morning after. A great, GREAT man, gone.

How great? Services weren't "standing room only"...they were Fire Marshall barred further entries.

Graveside? 'Bout a thousand people in attendance. And they *all* LOVED him, and mourned his early passing.

His passing was shattering to his family, and their business.

We pray our old and feeble a peaceable and loving passage at their life's end.

But we're robbed of such, when our still strong, vital and vibrant friends, family and peers, pass suddenly, with little to no warning.

No time to brace for impact. No time to consider, to prepare.

And so, the punch to the gut is all the worse, for its sudden, violent, and merciless impact.

We can only, we must then, pray all the more, and call upon His mercy, for all those so affected.

441 I find Orson Welles being drunk or difficult is hysterically funny. But there is a bit of pathos in it. He joked that "I started at the top and worked my way down" and it's accurate. In his 30s he made Citizen Kane and married Rita Hayworth. He peaked and had nothing to strive for. He looks to the future and sees nothing, and looks to the past and has to leave it behind.

Of course glorious success isn't my problem, so I've got that going for me, which is nice.

Couldn't you follow up with the claim that since your trash is public, there is no way the police can prove anything in it was placed there by you? I would think the chain of custody would be so badly broken that reasonable doubt would be a given.

It was fun because there was a pretty good clinical psychologist who drank with the regular crowd, and he would add that when you had a functioning barmaid there was no need for either of those other professions.

He was the first actual practitioner I ever heard say that nobody went into the head game without having an Issue of their own driving them there. After that, I never met one who didn't say that.

For a conviction, sure. But the cops are looking for probable cause, so they can get a search warrant for your house.

The search warrant is the goal of a trash search. And as the article notes, the USSC has ruled streetside trash is not protected by the 4th.

I actually tried that. It brings up a bunch of "brew in a bag" listings, which is a different thing: porous bags to hold the malted grains in the brew kettle, kind of like a teabag.
The BrewSack was a different thing altogether. It was a brew kit in a bag. Add 21 pints of boiling water, let it cool, pitch in the yeast, and hang it in a cool place for three months.
I found links to a homebrwer's forum, and the company has either gone out of business, many years ago, or has ceased to make the product. Apparently, some other Brit company is trying a reboot, but at $40 per kit, it does not sound cheap.

I got the linux bug 'cuz there is this obsolete vista desktop just sitting there in the corner, doing nothing; mocking me. Ya. So I put Fedora on it. It still mocks me; still doing nothing. So I download some live linux iso files and burn'm to disk.

I see Debian wants me to use the torrent to get their installer, and who runs the torrents? The Russians or/and organized crime. Didn't the Russians take over Debian?

So now I have this question, who are these people spreading these linux distributions around. Has to be the intelligence agencies; has to be - the Brits, the Russians, the Chinese, the Israelis, the CIA. Who else has the money?

Now I can't escape the thought that deep down in the boot sectors where I can't find it, somebody has embedded a backdoor and my whole home network is compromised.

And they say that pot does no harm. Heh! Damn, now I got the munchies.

IMO, the purpose of the rotisserie chickens in the supermarket is to fill the store with that tasty smell and sell more groceries. The fact they sell them to customers is pretty incidental, which I imagine is why they are priced so reasonably.

I would imagine the deli area of the store is one of the highest profit and revenue producing centers. Position the spinning, succulent chicken there and the customers will come.

Yes, but you're a responsible individual. The guys who worked for me - despite being well remunerated -- would never save a penny of their paychecks. It all went to booze, pot, and daily runs to every fast food place in town. I packed a lunch from home. Every day.

Sure, I'd be wealthy at the end of my career. They'd be poor. And old. And in need of a government program to protect them from themselves.

Social Security is a necessary evil. If we didn't force those type of people to put money 'away' (and yes I know it's not actually being put anywhere) there would have to be some sort of senior citizen welfare program financed by who?

You know who.

What part of "not my f*cking problem" do you not understand? And how is stealing MY money to pay for profligate losers with alcohol problems a "good thing" for society? Because these retarded people don't plan for the future I should pay? This is not a group of individual accounts ~ it is one thing. And it uses my money to pay for others who put in little or nothing ( like your dicktarded work buddies)

Did it ever occur to you that these dicktards you work with spend money and don't plan for the future because they believe ( wrongly) that "social security" will provide them with a living in their old age?

What does that have to do with what I am talking about?

If you want to pass a law that says people who don't save for retirement and invest (and/or or keep a certain amount in a retirement fund) or what have you ~ I might actually want to discuss ~ but stealing my money so others who live a shit life, take no responsibility and suck the public teat can retire on time? Ahem. No.

Do me a favor ~ get all your friends who feel that way and YOU and THEY can contribute to a fund for these people ~ or, since they work for you ~ why not just pay over all YOUR business profits to support them? That is if you feel that making sure they can live that way and retire and live comfortably is what is most important and what should be actively encouraged and then you can STOP using the power of government to steal my money to do so. No? Well then please go post on some other website (a leftard one ~ perhaps Vox or something). And, in the meantime ~ reread the Ants and the Grasshopper. You must not have understood it the first time.

Ahem ~ no

Wtf ~ where did you pul that fake statistic from (other than your @ss)

By any legitimate accounting method SS is bankrupt ~ that is because the money was stolen by the government to pay for other things and now the government does not have enough to pay recipient without borrowing. On what planet does that qualify as "99% of the money paid in goes to recipients"

Please. Nice try though. More pumpkin spice decaf latte for you.

That's no different then what the employer has to pay. They have to match dollar for dollar, the amount the employee pays.

Same here. Really burns me when I have to write all those checks to the IRS, especially when I calculate at the end of the year and SS is usually more than half the total.

I use to say until a few years ago if the govt ever offered me an "out" of SS they could keep every penny I had paid over the past 30 years or so if could just not have to pay any more. As I get closer to retirement age I have withdrawn that offer and fully expect the millennial and anchor babies to make sure my SS check are good. At the point of a govt. gun if necessary.

I believe it says SS will be able to meet its obligation for the next 20 years or so, then drops off to around 80% rapidly..

Of course it is based on them being able to cash in trillions of IOUs in the lock box.
