Trump on Track to Shed Almost 50% of EPA Staff by End of First Term

A good start, as one might say about lawyers.

The Environmental Protection Agency, seen by President Trump as a bloated bureaucratic whale, is on schedule to fulfill his promise to reduce its staff nearly in half by the end of his first term mostly through retirements, not cuts, according to officials.

The EPA Tuesday provided to Secrets its first year staff results which show that the agency is below levels not seen since former President Reagan’s administration.

And if just those slated to retire by early 2021 leave, Administrator Scott Pruitt and his team will have reduced a staff of nearly 15,000, to below 8,000, or a reduction of 47 percent.

Related: Climate "scientists" predicted this winter would be warmer than average and that the polar bear population would be decimated.

Instead, the winter is colder than average and polar bear populations are thriving.

Oh well -- climate science is not an exact science. Or even just a science.

It's new age Gaiaism with some graphs.

They aren't admitting to the 32 year cycle of the Earth slowing, the Earth's core getting more dense (maybe simultaneously happening to the libs), and how gases and magnetic waves are being released to the oceans.

Could this be why the oceans are getting warmer and the "climate" is changing? More earthquakes these past 5 years, this one potentially a big spiked one.

But people were presenting it a some kind of global warming argument: see, see, its killing bears!!!!

No, you colossal ignoramus. Animals starve when there's too many for their environment, not too few. There are more polar bears alive now than at any time in known memory or recorded existence. The arctic Indians are saying they have never, nor have their ancestors ever talked about so many bears.

I think one of the founders, original poobahs who helped set up EPA in the Nixon Admin. said last year that "we were done by the late 1980s" in terms of the actual critical environmental protection or restoration. He sensibly thought the agency had vastly outgrown/over-stepped its boundaries, and mostly outlived its necessity.

Science does not use deductive reasoning where you eliminate all the things you can prove to be false until you end up with one inevitable, absolute true conclusion.

Science uses inductive reasoning wherein you examine all possibilities and likelihoods, based on the best information you have, and eventually come to a final conclusion of the most probable answer.

Actually, (((((JJ))))) and other MOT might be interested if they don't know already, Int. Rescue Committee got its name and its start in the very noble effort of getting more Jooos into the US from Europe in the 1930s.

They famously got a little fast and loose with some documentation to - literally, as it of course turned out - rescue Jews. So when I had meetings on quarterly reports and such with them, I'd usually start by asking - "so are these numbers real, or did you make them up???". All in good fun, and they enjoyed the humor. And they did excellent work in very bad situations overseas.

Posted by: alexthechick - Ragebunny. With propeller beanie. Hopping all around. at January 09, 2018 03:36 PM (mf5HN)

No, actually we do. The Earth currently wobbles to the determinant of the Northern Hemisphere. Sending more solar energy to the more water laced Southern Hemisphere. Which does not heat as well as land masses. When the Earth stops wobbling and begins the slow return to the north the north is already in an Ice Age.

It's kinda cool to see how they reposition the sign posts where the sun positions itself on the same day, at the same time every year to determine this. Almost out of sight to the south. Year after year, decade after decade, and will continue for tens of thousands of years.

Like I mentioned, Milankovitch cycles. The left is not going to tell you about them, because actual science is involved.

Given Earth's known density, yes, a rotating molten Ni/Fe outer core surrounding a solid Ni/Fe inner core is most likely. Ditto for other terrestrial bodies like Mercury and Ganymede (likely with a higher Sulfur fraction) as well as Mars and Venus in the past. However, it's not the only way known: Most of your true gas giants (Saturn, Jupiter) are theorized to have a solid metallic Hydrogen inner core and a liquid metallic Hydrogen outer core. For ice giants like Uranus and Neptune, its stil somewhat of a mystery, though I have seen theories implicating things like exotic ices amongst other things.

Oh hell no. Hell. No. I'm not letting people have step stools all willy nilly.

Story time!

Once upon a time at the Old Firm, we moved from a grand old converted Victorian to a nice, but boring, set of offices across town.

The first day there, the Big Boss realized that when I kept looking at the plans and saying "but I can't reach those shelves" what I meant was "but I can't reach those shelves" and he sent the office runner off to buy me a step ladder. A nice one, with three steps and a nice curved bar on the top to which I could hold and try not to fall off.

Bitches kept coming in and trying to borrow my step ladder so I hid it and I doled out the use of the step ladder on a do I deem you worthy scale. That scale was, naturally, maintained at my whim.

Except for the Big Boss's paralegal who knew that by hidden I mean I kept it behind the door with a jacket hung off it and she would just come in and get it as she pleased.

I live 5 minutes from the Canadian border. The Border Patrol planes, helicopters and drones seemingly fly non-stop, 24-7. Can't even go for a nice quiet hike in the woods too close to the border or you'll have to listen to them, endlessly circling. It's annoying as hell.

337 When I graduated from college in '85 my first software engineering job was with Computer Sciences Corporation doing government contract work for the EPA in Las Vegas. Virtually every EPA employee was some academic, usually a PhD, sitting around gabbing all day -- a couple of them would regularly interrupt me trying to do my work just to shoot the crap, and I had to tolerate it because they were the customer.

Their biggest hysteria and area of research there and then, and what they wanted so badly to scare people with, was naturally-occurring radon under homes giving people cancer and killing them.

That's another battle and I hope its one that gets fought, but I seriously doubt it.

Congress cutting pensions back and destroying public employee unions would be a huge, huge huge benefit to the United States. Incredibly vast and important.
