Oprah's Running for President and the MSM Couldn't Be More Moist

Wonderful.

Oprah Winfrey is "actively thinking" about running for president in 2020 after her stirring Golden Globes speech that addressed race and the #MeToo movement brought the crowd to its feet and raised speculation the media mogul would launch a White House bid, CNN reported on Monday.

Ed Driscoll wonders if Harvey Weinstein will be her running mate.

20 Oprah has some superficial resemblance to Trump (self-made business success, media star) and to Obama (black Chicago).

She'd create a stir in the D primaries because she'd start with high recognition and decent favorables among Ds.

In the general she'd get killed with some cohorts and would underperform Obama with others (e.g., Black men)

*George Takei ran for local political office in California at the time Star Trek: The Animated Series was set to hit the airwaves. 78 Oprah strikes me as being the black Scankles.

The idea of being president is appealing, but the actual work of campaigning, methinks, is anathema to her.

Consider - when, in her personal or professional life, is she told "no?" When has she faced a hostile audience? When has she been asked to think on her feet? When has she been asked to think about complex geopolitical strategery?

I suspect that, like Crooked Hillary, Oprah, for all her forced jolliness, is angry (remember the racist shop clerk in Switzerland?), puffed up with self-regard and has skin thinner than tissue paper.

The Dems might raise money off of the idea of President Oprah, but if the economy is roaring, PC continues to be beaten about the head and neck and the MFM devolve into even more of a Democrat-propaganda-clown-boner than they are, Teh Donald will eat her alive.

Opera, who is not of politics, and is seemingly so nice (she gives away vacations, after all) would be much more sympathetic if Trump went after her. 262 Watch her show and look at the faces of the women in the audience - they are mesmerized. She is their guru.

She really became a thing when I was in my early 20s. I remember watching many episodes of her show before becoming completely bored with it. It was all the same stuff over and over. The women who gaze upon her as if she is functioning on a higher plane are the same oafs and dolts who watch The View. I know Oprah has a very large fan base. I don't think it's what it was in the 80s and while I'll never again underestimate the idiocy of the American voter, I don't think she's got the power to nab the 10s of 1000s of voters in Ohio, PA, MI, WI who turned out for Trump. It wasn't him personally they voted for. It was what he said he would do for them (and is doing). She would want none of that. The worm has turned.

The country is truly only in its present state because a huge chunk of the electorate is not well informed, not thoughtful, not responsible. But to become president, you have to get WI, MI, OH, and PA - and it is not clear there are enough voters there who *are* to some extent aware of real issues and respond to policy, not personality.

Just as with Harris, seems like quite a stretch to see Oprah winning back those states.

Of course, as always needs to be added, with the proviso of "events, my son, events", Trump's fate remains largely in his own hands.

Years before Trump ran he had trademarked MAGA and was doing some studies on what he would have to do and what issues he would need to push in order to be elected.

You might have the public/private separation. In public, black men might be pressured to support Oprah. That might extend to campaign donations for rich black men, especially in entertainment. But in private, I suspect black men don't want to vote for their 'mom'.

This was not typical for such briefings, over the years. But most worldly, informed people would experience jaw-drop if they saw *most* intelligence products. Because their expectations would be wildly excessive compare to the reality.

459 I don't think at this point Trump should tweet about Oprah. And I don't think he will.

A lot of people think he's unbalanced or random with his tweets, but I think there's judiciousness behind it. The message is basically "Don't tread on me". He's conveying that if you attack him he'll give you as good as he's got, which is what we've wanted all along.

Now if Oprah launches some scathing attack on him, he'll roast her. But then she'd have given up all claim to be an innocent victim.

The only hope of the left is to goad Trump into attacking her personally by promoting her and attacking him in the same breath, but I don't think he'd fall into that. We shall see.

Every Democrat consultant and LLR consultant, that's who. My guess the competition for the "vision" of the campaign would drive even someone like Oprah to distraction, but firings and picking one faction over another would make all of the identity politics worse. The tell-all books would be a hoot, though.

479 Actually, Agent Cooper, you raise an interesting point. The Dem "primary" thing has been completely wrecked by the Clinton machine, culminating in last year's farce (which probably involved gross illegalities related to misuse of the DNC, under election finance law, to boot). The GOP side, as we just saw, actually is an open, wild contest, as it should be. The guys with the most $$$ lost, horribly - they never even got moving.

The Dem side hasn't been a wide-open battle since The Seven Dwarves in 1988, probably. Even 2008 was sketchy and odd - Obama won (obviously due to skin color) via non-vote related dynamics ("super-delegates"), North Korean-style slavish media worship, a fair amount of crude shenanigans that is rarely mentioned, etc. It was hardly a normal, open contest.

501 The Dem side hasn't been a wide-open battle since The Seven Dwarves in 1988, probably.

Yeah didn't Obama actually lose in every single Primary? He won like all the Caucus states, but when it was just a primary, he came in second to Hillary.

I mentioned this in another thread today. The dem left has painted itself in a corner with this identity politics stuff. It's worked well, for a while. But now it's gone too far and is actually hurting them.
All it will take is one reporter to ask Oprah "Do you support BLM?" And campaign over. Because any answer will doom her. "No" and she loses the urban black vote, critical to dems. "Yes" and she loses the middle class white vote, critical to everybody. There is no way to tread water here. They've divided the country so sharply on issues like this, they've made it hard for themselves to win.
Meanwhile Trump is on basic well being of everybody. Like firing up the economy like it hasn't been fired up in many years. Cutting taxes. Stopping foreigners from taking our jobs and securing the borders, making our enemies think twice about provoking us. I don't care if you like Trump' s personality or not. Nobody is unhappy with that. And everybody can get on board. Everybody want a good job and a peaceful, law abiding nation.
Meanwhile the left is still talking about some vague notion of imaginary discrimination and which bathroom to use. They've checkmated themselves.

518 Oprah is the female Obama of eloquence and rhetoric. She has a very large following and years of people feeling they know her. She has done wonderful things in this country and in others with her money. She's earned respect.

She in no way has the ability to be a good president. She would probably be Obama's 3rd term...that is where she would go for advice. And staff up with his guys. It'd be an unmitigated disaster.

She definitely would be a strong candidate and have a built in base, especially for those who vote with feelz or on race or women issues. The press loves her.

Oprah is loved. Ripping into Clinton, people didn't much care. She was dirty too. Oprah is like Earth Mother to people. It would backfire if Trump ripped into her, IMO.

She would be formidable. Especially with the Obama machine, press, etc. But it'll be the end for the US should she win. And she could. Especially with a good running mate.

JMO at this point in time.

I agree, that notion needs to go down in flames. It's the only way we can be freed of the McConnells, the Schumers, etc.

I've no problem with her running either. It's just that I think Hillary has a better chance of losing. So I'm still a Hillary supporter. I'm even reluctant that she should be held accountable by any investigation before 2020. That's how badly I want Hillary to run.

524 In an Idiocracy, anything is possible.

That's basically what it comes down to. All the old rules are out the window. Nothing makes sense any more. Trump won largely on a tide of resentment, frustration, and annoyance at leftist overreach and arrogance. People voted for the least Politically correct person on earth as a thumb in the eye of those bastards. That won't be true in 2020, so Trump will have to run on his vision, his record, and the way things have changed, hopefully for the better.

I don't know if that's in his wheelhouse, honestly.

No, that's exactly the anxiety that gnaws away at me about this. She'd be the embodiment of "the road to hell is paved with good intentions". She wouldn't be malicious like Obama, but she'd be his third term. And a large number of people wouldn't be able to see it. That's why I love Hillary. Please Hillz. Get some stamina for 2020.

Nice not to be alone in my view. People who laugh and think she doesn't have a chance are so wrong, IMO. Especially if she picked an excellent running mate.

And the idea of the first woman president also being black is catnip to people.
