Quote III THOU of an independent mind, Charles Jenkins, a former U.S. Army soldier who deserted to North Korea at the height of the Cold War, died Monday. He was 77. Jenkins collapsed outside his home in Sado, in northern Japan, on Monday and was rushed to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, a group representing families of Japanese abductees to North Korea said Tuesday. He died of heart failure, according to local reports. Jenkins, originally from Rich Square, N.C., disappeared in January 1965 while on patrol along the Demilitarized Zone dividing North and South Korea. To be honest with you I'm shocked that Obama didn't bring him back home, give him The Presidential Medal of Freedom and kick in for a sex change operation. Guess what? The polar bear population is doing just fine. According to scientists, no study has indicated that there is reason to presume that the perspectives of community observers are either suspect or incorrect. In fact, there have been multiple occasions when traditional ecological knowledge gleaned from local populations accurately identified polar bear subpopulation trends before new scientific studies could be conducted to corroborate them (York et al., 2016). The overwhelming conclusion from years of accumulated conversations with native populations about polar bears is that there is almost no connection between the long-term observations of polar bear ecology and the more recent claims that polar bears as a species are in grave danger due to climate change and thinning sea ice. Dictionary.com chose "complicit," Cambridge Dictionary chose "populism," and Collins went with "fake news" as the 2017 word of the year. "Collusion" would also have been a good choice; after all, it provided much of the impetus for three of the most tweeted activism hashtags on twitter: #Resist (1), #ImpeachTrump (3), and #NotMyPresident (6). Collusion's WOTY credentials are stellar based just on online lookups and trends, plus it was ubiquitous throughout fake news all year, even if the act it inexplicably described – the Trump campaign colluding with Russia during the 2016 election – was illusory. Joyce came off the Optune device; she was just too miserable with it. They meet with her oncologist on Monday to discuss other options (there actually *are* a few). Hmmm. Physics.
So a person I know decided to remove the screens from their windows for the winter. Used a ladder to get the upper story screens. Window in question is above a concrete stoop. The ladder angle is too upright when the ladder base is on the stoop. This person grabs a sheet of plywood and places it on the stoop, hanging over the edge several feet, and puts the ladder on top of that. A little bit of suction under the plywood allows the plywood to support the ladder until the person climbs a rung or two. Next came a trip to the emergency room for stitches to repair shins after sliding down the ladder. The kicker? The screens can only be removed (without damage, anyway) from inside the house. This is what happens when a person commits to a course of action and ignores any evidence that it just can't work. Milo is right about many women having "porous politics." my sister (who I love dearly) was a Democrat and voted for Clinton when she was married to her first husband, who was liberal. her second husband, (my beloved BIL who died a few months ago) was a small businessman and a conservative and she became a conservative. she voted for Trump. And yet, I half expect her to revert to liberalism because she works on a college campus and listens to libs all day. she's a good person but pretty easily swayed by people around her - when it comes to politics,at least.

U.S. judge orders special counsel to turn over evidence on Michael Flynn
A U.S. District Court judge ordered Special Counsel Robert Mueller on Tuesday to turn over any potential evidence that could be material for when he sentences President Donald Trump's former national security adviser, Michael Flynn... Sullivan told the government in a filing to turn over any exculpatory evidence, known as "Brady" material, that could potentially help Flynn's defense or information that is "material either to the defendant's guilt or punishment." The order by the judge is considered routine, and the government by law is required to turn over such information to the defense if it exists. I've been listening to the Hollies on YouTube. I think they were the British equivalent of the Byrds.
That's pretty apt, especially seeing as one from each ended up in CSNampersandY. That was an interesting time. I like the fluidity of band members moving from group to group inventing classic rock along the way. I discounted the Hollies because they're name sounded old fashioned, but I get them now. It's like Paris in the '20s. Everyone lived in Laurel Canyon. Everyone slept or tried to sleep with Joni Mitchell and no one could hold her. I've read that Mr. Venn quit diagramming because he couldn't keep up. Our youngest daughter was an enthusiastic (vituoso?) bassoon player in HS band, but acute pancreatititis forced her to stop playing about 10 years ago. But she has never stopped talking about it. Though her pancreatitis has turned into the chronic type with chronic abdominal pain, we think she can at least get some pleasure (If not give a virtuoso performance) from her old passion.

Well, hell. Uncle Harvey has through a spokeshole, given a response to Selma Hayek's charges. With all the shit (probably about 100 women, give or take) he's never said anything since the shit first hit the fan, but he has responded to Hayek. He says "he doesn't recall" pressuring her to do the lesbo scene. And besides, the character she was playing was bi, so that was in context. And also, he wasn't there for the filming, so he wasn't there to look when she was nekkid for the scene. Now, WTF. This could mean that of all the stories, Selma's is bullshit, so's he going to respond. But I don't know. Posted by: publius, the Persistent Poperin Pear at December 14, 2017 01:09 AM (8O3HH) 450

Posted by: publius, the Persistent Poperin Pear at December 14, 2017 01:09 AM (8O3HH) Those complaints of hers didn't amount to squat, anyway. All I can see she was complaining about was that he pestered her for normal and weird sex and that he tried to stop her crappy movie from being made. I wish he had succeeded at the latter. Frida was not very good ... and that doesn't even take into account the fact that it was a love story for Communism, either. Salma Hayek called him her "monster" and talked about how she was abused and felt guilty and all this shit ... and then all she could come up with was that he used his salad fork to eat his mashed potatoes. Seen in the reflecting-light microscope, it's like looking into dark-blue glass, full of reflecting planes." Earthstone is mostly greens (malacite etc.) with some blue azurite, a few quartz micros in little caves, some brown/black tenorite. Covellite, terrific, I cut alot of it - best is Butte, MT and Colorado. Properly oriented, the plate-like crystals reflect back an incredible purple. There are some tricks of the lapidary trade to accentuate the purple (quartz caps, for example). But you have to have the plate like crystal structure. The massive stuff, for example, RSA, won't give the effect. For fun, with a reflecting light microscope, check out Vivianite crystals from Bolivia or Madagascar - dichroic- and paper thin plates comprising the crystal. I finally looked at the Arizona shooting Insomniac & others were speaking about. It really was an execution.
I know we've all seen videos of bad cop shootings, but this is the worst in my recent memory. A guy crying and begging in a hotel hallway, on the ground, for his life. Doing everything the cop said. In the other bad shootings there have at least been knives, or drugs, or some extenuating circumstances. None of those things apply here. There were other officers there. Why didn't one go cuff him? This is all kinds of disturbing. No wonder they held the tape back for 2 years. Posted by: Professor Chaos Gumdrop Gorilla at December 14, 2017 03:24 AM (iMDvh) 487

Yeah, Skip. We're gonna get some snow over the next couple of hours. I suspect more than a 'dusting'. Posted by: Acme Explosives at December 14, 2017 04:15 AM (ajiE5) 495
Fairly long commute overland as I say ( no highways), good news is I can start when I want so going to grab breakfast pack a lunch and get going. No one will be on the road but me.

I remember leaving for a cross-state visit very early one morning when 'only' a 'dusting' of snow was forecast. An hour later on the turnpike it was complete white-out conditions and everyone was traveling 15 mph. Didn't last long but it got nasty very quickly. Drive carefully Skip. O Christ. A Weather Keynesian. We have a whole set of jokes based on the alphabetical scroll of school closings. Some of the towns on there, you never hear from except in a snowstorm. And they're proud of it, too! Hard to believe some clever li'l bastids have never harnessed the power of built-in video recording to buffalo their folks that school is closed on a day when there's just-a-dustin'. With the shape parents are in anymore, you might could pull that in June... Posted by: Stringer Davis at December 14, 2017 06:02 AM (H5rtT) 509

Nobody is about, but I will post some good news. A good friend has been waiting for a kidney for over 5 years. So I see the "metoo" crowd now has a body county. Dan Johnson of KY, RIP.
This will not end well. None of it. We no longer have due process. Every accuser is believed and every accused is guilty. War on women my ass end. And yes, I'm a woman. Husband is with his daughter helping her through her impending divorce. He says she has CNN on if she is awake. Cannot even imagine how many little pink pills he will need after this visit. She also did a rather boisterous happy dance when Moore lost on Tuesday. And no, her lefty bent is not why they are divorcing. They are both Bernie bots. Bruce. My contention is that it's another war on men. This really ramped up with the Harvey Weinstein accusations, which sound legit and now everyone of these accusations is believed. I'm guessing that a lot of them are true but not all. My problem is that there isn't a trial. They are just guilty. That's a lot of power in the hands of anyone who wants to accuse someone.
Not a fan of Roy Moore but do hope he pursues litigation against his accusers. It has to stop. I'm done cheering very attack against a lefty. It won't stop with them. Posted by: never enough caffeine at December 14, 2017 06:49 AM (N3JsI) 523

That final picture gave me a thought. It dates from when I was a kid. Back then, movies and TV shows definitely painted a picture of adult life that we wanted to join. Do today's snowflakes have any similar inducement? Maybe they think it's better to stay in Never Never Land.
