Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Lois Lerner and Holly Paz: If Our Explanations for Targeting the Tea Party Are Ever Revealed to the Public, There's a Chance of Such Public Anger Our Lives Would Be Endangered; So They Must Remain Sealed ForeverFormer IRS executive Lois G. Lerner told a federal court last week that members of her family, including "young children," face death threats and a real risk of physical harm if her explanation of the tea party targeting scandal becomes public. Ms. Lerner and Holly Paz, her deputy at the IRS, filed documents in court Thursday saying tapes and transcripts of depositions they gave in a court case this year must remain sealed in perpetuity, or else they could spur an enraged public to retaliate.... Ms. Lerner and Ms. Paz gave taped depositions in a class-action lawsuit brought by tea party groups demanding answers and compensation for having been subjected to illegal targeting for their political beliefs. The government settled the class-action lawsuit in Ohio and another tea party challenge in the District of Columbia in two agreements last month, admitting to the illegal behavior. The Ohio settlement also called for the government to pay $3.5 million to the tea party groups, according to one of the plaintiffs. Ms. Lerner came in for particular criticism, with the government admitting she not only didn't stop the targeting -- contradicting the Obama administration's claims -- but also hid it from her superiors in Washington. During the course of the Ohio case, the tea party groups filed thousands of pages of documents, but testimony from Ms. Lerner and Ms. Paz was left out of the public record because of their earlier request for privacy. Now Ms. Lerner and Ms. Paz say that since the case has been settled, there is no reason for their testimony to ever become public. So far the judge has ruled in their favor regarding suppressing the critical information of how government officials behaved in a way now confessed to be illegally. I'm almost certain he'll once again rule that the Public Has No Right to Know What Its Paid Officials Do To Them. Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

I don't understand how an anti-Constitutional abuse of power by government officials results in this sort of civil settlement from the government. It seems sort of screwed up. The obviously correct resolution to cases like this are that the government officials involved are sent to pound-me-in-the-ass federal prison (or whatever the equivalent is for women) for a nice long time and that the financial judgments are held against them, personally, and their families. Of course, with the IRS this would include not only Lois Lerner and the other turds at the IRS but all the way up to Barky, his treasonous DOJ and the whole lot. Prison time and personal settlements, all. Posted by: ThePrimordialOrderedPair at November 20, 2017 07:28 PM (8gDQu) 38

Tambor was unbearable on it. I've never enjoyed him anything else because of it. I later found out another reason that show sucked is that they fucked over Norman Fell and Audra Lindley. If memory serves neither of them wanted to do the spin off because Three's Company was such a huge success and they didn't want to take a chance on losing that paycheck. They were assured oh no you can come back...and then hired Don Knotts. Not Don's fault I'm sure, but that was a shit thing to do. Both of them were great on that show and Norman Fell's breaking the Fourth Wall and grinning still kills whenever I see it. Posted by: Dack Thrombosis at November 20, 2017 07:37 PM (4ErVI) 99

41 There also seems to be a pattern that the greater and more terrible the crime that the government official commits, the less likely they will be held accountable and face consequences.

It is truly a spectacle that's unimaginable for the America that existed for most of its history.
A federal official with a feared and powerful agency commits crimes going to the heart of the constitution and the very spirit of American governance, things never before know to have been done - and takes the 5th before Congress (itself a jaw-dropping new low), suffers no punishment, and has her crimes against the public forever sealed away from public eyes. And the DOJ pretends to believe there is no basis for prosecution. Yet she needed to that the 5th before Congress, and is desperate to keep her deposition secret. Oh - and meanwhile there's a "special prosecutor" appointed contrary to the governing statute, "investigating" something that if it existed would be a counter-intelligence matter not criminal (and which already was investigated), which is absurd on its face, and by the way is producing sketchy indictments of marginal figures for activities completely unrelated to the counsel's mandate. Rule of law in the US in on life support, has been for a few years. So far the prognosis has not changed much. Posted by: rhomboid at November 20, 2017 07:38 PM (QDnY+) 110

This mega-scandal ranks right up with the others - State Dept. crime wave, Uranium One. In fact in some ways it "outranks" them - the conscious weaponization of govt. against the citizenry, with almost certainly approval to the very top, and slimy indifference by the political "opposition". The most powerful and important arms of the US govt. retain all their power, but have lost a great deal of their legitimacy. Which makes the DOJ the same as the entire Executive Branch. It is self-aware. It senses threats, and responds accordingly. It's loyalty is to itself, not any one person. It really is that simple unless someone was literally holding a gun up to your head. Well in 2013, the company and my VP fucked me over hardcore, so I went into shutdown Peter Gibbons mode. When my review came around, I said that there was nothing I would change and that my performance was stellar. Funny thing is. after that, they had no more self-reviews. I doubt I had anything to do with it, but it was amusing. Then they promoted me. I worked hard again until they fucked me over a second time a couple of months ago. I'm back in Peter Gibbons mode. Was just reminded the other day of my late boss, when we got voluntold to adopt a 360-degree over and under management review process, one time. You didn't use your name, see, so everything was cool. Second question was your gender. It was a district headquarters, so all level 21 and above, and of that grouping, she was the only female. "Gosh," she'd say to me, "I wonder if they can tell who it is."

My thoughts are on why she really wants her testimony to be sealed. the Mercedes that Adolph had Daimler build for Eva.
Point of nomenclature, old man. In that era, you have to say Benz or Daimler-Benz. If you say Daimler, you're talking about the auto division of BSA(!). They were veddy BuhDittish indeed, made the Queen's cars and all. Jaguar owns the name now, and somebody says they use it, too. Hitler himself was said to prefer the Horch, and may have even made a dirty crack about Mercedes and pimps, once. The fun part is that Benz built that sports special for their Paris dealer, an ambitious fellow named Jellinek, who named the car after his daughter. Emil Jellinek vass Chewish. So Lois Lerner targeted the Tea Party and we the taxpayers paid her while she did it. The government has agreed to a settlement that the taxpayers have to pay for. The government lawyers that handled the case get paid by the tax payers and the judge and court personnel get paid by the taxpayers. If the Tea Party get court costs that will be paid by the taxpayers.
If someone tells me that Lois Lerner got paid, by the taxpayers, to testify then I guess that would qualify as a Grand Slam of screw the taxpayer. Does Lois qualify for another 6 figure bonus and an increase in her pension because she had to take care of all this nonsense while she is retired? Lerner should be in prison. Posted by: booknlass at November 20, 2017 09:19 PM (9mZIr) Lerner should live in valid fear of the skillfully executed, 800 yd. shot. And she should be constantly reminded of just how very many capable marksmen that exist in this Nation, who could easily deliver such a feat. And then, she should consider that 99% of those Experts fall into the Category known as Deplorables, Bitter Clingers and Constitutionalists. Yep. She should be reminded of this, now and 'evermore. I think more than anything else it's a specific manifestation of the general rule that:
Women. Never. Forget. ANYTHING. That. A Man. Does. To. Them. NEVER. No shit. I was getting divorced after 25 years (and 4 years dating) and I heard about a bad night/date from college days. She didn't seem to want to hear about me not getting along with her new boyfriend. Posted by: free tibet, etc. at November 20, 2017 10:36 PM (CL76w) 763
I think that if Lerner's actions and orders became widely known, she would likely be in danger from the people who already know these things.

Late to this thread, but this issue affects all of us. Not only did the IRS target US, it leaked a donor list to a pro-heterosexual marriage group to its political enemy with no repercussions. No one lost their job; no one was charged. I stopped giving money to all republicans because they failed to protect my First Amendment rights from a corrupt and criminal government.
