Washington Post Offers Totally Unexpected and Novel Hot Take: Al Franken's Sins are Just One Man's Failings, But Republican Sins Are Borne By Each and Every Member of the Party

Don't bother clicking on this; that's just what they want. I think the sub-head explains their take well-enough.

We've seen this Narrative too many times to count. When Cold Cash Jefferson was found with a load of bribe money in his fridge, that didn't get much coverage, and the coverage it got just made it about Cold Cash Jefferson himself.

But when Jack Abramoff was found donating to Republicans, that was a Culture of Corruption that applied to the entire GOP. In fact, even though one of the biggest beneficiaries of Abramoff's donations was Democrat Majority Leader Harry Reid, Reid was simply edited out of the stories to make the Narrative stick.

And now we have Franken forcibly sticking his tongue town and unwilling woman's throat -- alleged -- and groping her sleeping body in a sexually humiliating way (proven and then admitted).

But see Democrats just have a single "issue," whereas Republicans have an "enduring problem."

With all the leftists who just days ago tried to pretend to be Brave Truth-Tellers admitting that they covered up for a likely rapist -- Bil Clinton -- you'd think this narrative would at least be tweaked.

Which party featured an adulterer, harasser of waitresses (forming "human sandwiches" with fellow Democrat Senator Chris Dodd) and actual manslaughterer of a woman? Ted Kennedy, obviously.

Which party featured a Majority Leader (Bob Packwood) who had to resign in disgrace for also shoving his tongue down women's mouths?

Which party had as president a credibly accused rapist as their standard-bearer for decades, and did not feel any need to denounce him until both his and his wife's political utility was exhausted?

And given the number of liberal men who the media has admitted got some or many free passes for harassments, assaults, and rapes precisely due to their status as donors to Planned Parenthood -- shouldn't the media say it's the Democrats and progressives who have the institutional protection-racket-for-abusers here?

In fact, don't the Democrats -- and their dogged defense of a man some of them now admit was likely a rapist, and a sexual harasser at a minimum -- serve as an inducement for liberal men to take advantage of women, having seen that if you just throw enough money into Planned Parenthood and against the NRA, the liberals in the media will cover up for you?

Didn't the Democrats and the Democrat Media -- including the Washington Post, which, remember, was as stalwart a Clinton defender as Gloria Steinem -- actually nurture and further the Culture of Rape?

Jim Geraghty wonders about that here, quoting even Admirer of Men's Trouser Creases David Brooks who asks (paraphrased): Isn't it possible that progressive would-be molesters, seeing that a prominent Democrat could not only get away with rape but be heralded for decades after as a Champion of the Party, were inspired to turn their fantasies into action precisely due to Democrat/Media cover-ups of such scandals?

There is no greater inducement to a would-be thief than a sleepy or winking policeman.

And the media doesn't just keep covering up for Democratic sexual abuse. Days after many of them "bravely" admitted what anyone with a brain admitted ten years ago, they once again go into overdrive to cover-up for the next Democrat sexual abuser.

And they they'll blame Republicans for creating and nurturing this "Climate of Harassment."

Democracy Dies in Darkness, huh?

Open thread.

76 OK let me explain what this is all about. Just to bottom line it all.

In a year or two at the most, there will be at least one more opening in the Supreme Court. Very soon.

Democrats are willing to do literally anything whatsoever to stop Donald Trump from appointing another justice. And probably at least one more.

Anything.

Stopping someone from getting to the Senate for Republicans helps this cause. Protecting Al Franken helps this cause. They aren't sure they can get the Senate in 2018 despite their bravado and the idiots in the GOPe fretting. They think it won't happen. They need the Senate to stop those nominees, or at least control who gets through.

They must, MUST stop another good justice from being appointed to the SCOTUS or everything they have been trying to do the last 50 years will be destroyed for a generation.

This is what its all about. All of it.

But its the supreme court that's the battleground. Its already 3-1-3 which is a nice balance but problematic for the left.

4-1-2 is awful. And when Kennedy stops being Mr Decider, he's likely to step down, too. Then its 5-2. Game, set, match. With that kind of court, Roberts will be more likely to live up to his promise.

143 Mitch's book is called "The Long Game". It explains how he is promoting conservatism by playing 11-dimensional chess, smearing our candidates and failing to pass any conservative legislation.

The one with the real long game is Ted Kennedy. Kennedy was brilliant. He cultivated McConnell, inviting him to speak at his foundation. Message: "You're not one them, Mitch. you're one of us. Or you could be--if you play your cards right." If Roy Moore had left a pretty young campaign worker dead in the bayou, he'd still be in prison. Teddy Kennedy does it, and he's a "Giant" according to Mitch.

Long before they lose the votes, they've already surrendered to the Narrative.

Weiner's latest shenanigans were an embarrassment to Hilary, but he actually resigned from the House back in 2011 after his first go around. I think the reasons it was different for him were twofold: first, there was electronic evidence. There it was for everyone to see. No he said, she said to sort out. Second, he initially lied about it. He just baldfaced lied to the public, media, his Dem buddies, etc.

Once he was caught out having lied about his creepy sexual behavior, there was nobody who wanted to defend him.

200 The reason the article claims the Republicans have a problem is because of the allegations against Trump, the current president and most powerful politician of either party.

The argument is asinine for several big reasons.
1) the massive weight of overwhelming numbers on the left just recently exposed as sexual molesting scumbags
2) The president has no support of his party, they hate and oppose him
3) The president has never been exposed as a molesting child diddling scumbag. An adulterer, yes. A sleazy talking man, yes. But nothing else.

Its no argument at all. Its completely ridiculous in its face. It is spurious, it has no merit.

223 From the morning report, there was a link to a federalist article by David Harsanyi that indicates what the Democrat's enduring problem is (emphasis mine):

In 1998, Nina Burleigh famously wrote that not only would she "be happy" to perform fellatio on Bill Clinton for keeping abortion legal (talk about a strawman) but that "American women should be lining up with their Presidential kneepads on to show their gratitude for keeping the theocracy off our backs." Burleigh was an honest liberal who made the moral calculus that whatever Clinton's sins might be, his fight against the imaginary theocracy was well worth the degradation of a few women. Attacks on Clinton, she later explained, were an "insidious use of sexual harassment laws to bring down a president for his pro-female politics was the context in which I spoke."

Feminists have signed a deal with the devil. They want illegitimate things, such as forcing other people to pay for their abortions, birth control, and legislate that the system be fixed in their favor. So they are willing to take one step backward (and fall on their backs) in order to take (they hope) two steps forward someday.

It all seems so natural that to even question your programming makes you appear to be Abbie-normal.

Which is also very convenient if your enemies just happen to have access to any institutions should the original programming fail.

And the only allegations of serious crimes are down to one.

The yearbook plus Gloria Allred (and that really bizarre press conference) pretty much proved that accuser to be full of crap. I mean, her stepson says she's lying and -- get this -- when she got her divorce Roy Moore was the judge. She didn't complain or want another judge?? She said nothing???

She has zero credibility. So all we're left with, again, is the nearly-forgotten 14 year old. And we have another problem here: her mom contradicts a point in her story, saying she had no phone in her room at the time. Not a major problem, the girl may have forgotten. But still, doesn't help her case.

The one girl may be telling the truth. Moore may have gotten carried away or presumed upon her interest. Maybe she was interested at the time, then changed her mind or got scared.

The problem is that there's zero supporting evidence or any corroboration. Nothing remotely approaching proof. Just her word.

452 The problem is how this has been crafted by the Post. They keep bringing up testimony that Moore dated 16-19 year olds for about a 2 year period in the late 70s. That's their supporting evidence: one girl who says he made sexual advances when she was 14, who says she told him her age (eventually, at an unclear time because its never been dug into -- very likely late), and then a bunch of "yeah he dated me when I was 16, 17, 19 as if that's proof he did it.

That's like saying I killed people because I fired a gun in a gun range. Like saying I stole food because I ate at restaurants. Its unrelated. It doesn't even go to character, because he was -- according to their own statements -- careful to avoid girls under 16.

Now I don't like a 30 something guy dating 16-year-olds. I think that's nasty and there's something wrong with your maturity if you do that.

But its not evidence of pedophilia, or sickness, or some kind of "pattern" of anything but liking legal aged, but young girls.

It looks very much to me like he was looking for a wife, a young one. The girls that say he dated them state clearly that he did nothing sexual, not even booze. He was trying to get to know them. And that's at odds with the whole "he tried to force me touch his ween" claim.

I don't like that he dated girls so young, but man, its been 4 decades, he married a woman of mid 20s, and has stayed with her ever since without a single shred of any hint of any complaints or any straying.

It runs even deeper than that. Democrats are such big supporters of Planned Parenthood precisely BECAUSE they use women as sex objects, and, being a bunch of immature, selfish cads, have an absolute horror of the commitments and responsibilities incurred by unplanned pregnancies -- which, after all, are simply the normal, natural, biological consequences of all that screwing around. Back in the day, we were told that there would be no bonuses that year in R&D because we hadn't met the goal in "efficiency in use of cash" or something like that.

First, this was the first time we'd heard that this would a criterion.

Second, we didn't have any idea what that meant.

Third, we had even less idea on how to improve our "efficiency in use of cash," being scientists, not accountants.

Meanwhile, the accountants who actually ran the fucking company got their bonuses. We should've have denied them bonuses on the grounds that they hadn't met their goal of "efficiency in use of solvents."

How does Texas feel about 'roundabouts'

We just had our four lane, limited access bypass route torn up and the intersections converted to roundabouts.. Small, little traffic circles, instead of traffic lights for cross traffic.

We just had our four lane, limited access bypass route torn up and the intersections converted to roundabouts.. Small, little traffic circles, instead of traffic lights for cross traffic.

Exactly. It was some woman in Michigan who claims it happened during a photo being taken. The photo doesn't show anything out of the ordinary.

She said she didn't say anything, didn't tell anyone, and rationalized that Bush squeezing her butt(really?) was just an accident from trying to pose for a pic with his arm around her.

But now....she has thought about it after all the women have come forward about Bush's recent touches and she didn't know what she should do, but then decided she would tell MSNBC what happened.

Right.
He's 92, confined to a wheelchair and even if it did happen 25 years ago, what is telling this story now really do? She even says she wasn't traumatized by it, didn't need counseling, but wanted to tell what happened.

How does Texas feel about 'roundabouts'

Roundabouts are one of those retarded european ideas that city planners think are brilliant. They are terrible and stupid.

For a little while my home town tried round concrete planter things right in the middle of intersections in housing areas. To slow traffic, you have to slow down to drive around them.

In about a month, they were trashed and broken because people didn't expect them, had a hard time seeing them, and crashed into them a lot. Without exception, everyone except the jackwagon planners hated the things. They were eventually removed.

Posted by: TheQuietMan at November 16, 2017 09:12 PM (SiINZ)

I once had a retard business guy tell me that R&D was a pure expense. I replied, yes, of course, owing to accounting convention, because the value of the research isn't unknown and unknowable at the time.

But he made clear he thought R&D was a waste of money (this in a pharma company), because R&D "didn't bring in any money."

Proof positive that he was retarded. "By that standard we should fire you, all of the company brass, and only keep the sales force, because they're the only ones who actually bring in money. Of course, they wouldn't have anything to sell without R&D, but that's a detail."

He didn't get it. He connected value to the company with literally, physically, bringing in checks.

LOL!!! All I know is that it took me about 12 minutes and less than $90 bucks to register my car until Feb. 2019. Then it took me less than an hour to pass their stupid "knowledge test" and get an Indiana license. Plus, it's hilarious to hear the occasional complaint about "traffic." Heh, try 3 miles in 45 minutes and we'll talk.

558 I think they will become more common throughout the country in the next decades. They are liked by many traffic specialists.

But they only work if you grew up with them and are comfortable. If not? Its just a gnarled mess that slows traffic and increases congestion. Stupid idea. Europeans don't drive nearly as much as Americans and tend to have tiny cars. Their roads are usually much narrower. Totally different culture and road setting.

I experienced those in north Detroit suburbs in the early 90's. I really liked them but they do take up some space.

Texas DOT considered doing that at an intersection on Hwy 6 in far west Houston or suburb. Also considered an underpass system. Businesess and others opposed both concepts so TxDOT did nothing and left the backups as they were.

We just had our four lane, limited access bypass route torn up and the intersections converted to roundabouts.. Small, little traffic circles, instead of traffic lights for cross traffic.

They really suck. You can time the traffic lights and keep a smooth flow of traffic. You have to stop (yield) at roundabouts. Nuts!

I'm not in charge, but if I were, I would fire the entire current management team and bring in new people. Who have worked in the field.

They replaced management in January after we had a safety (asbestos) crisis...with people who have never worked in our field. Plus shut down our second plant and transferred all manufacturing to one place...while instituting an entirely new manufacturing process with brand new equipment designed by an incompetent plant engineer.

And they transferred everything over before confirming that we could handle the increase in numbers and that the new equpiment was working properly.

Just a total clusterfuck. Basically one of those, "if they were trying to deliberately tank the company what would they do differently" situations.

Now, after years of no one being held accountable, they put a guy in charge who pulled me off the floor, because I know more than he does, and he's started firing people for screwing up because they aren't properly trained.

Cluster.Fuck.

The idea is to intimidate the little old lady pulling up to the roundabout directly at 3 o'clock from your entry. Shit started in Berkeley 40 years ago. "Traffic calming." They also started blocking off streets, so instead of going straight to your house, you had to circle in three or four times with decreasing radius.

Calming? Not so much.

Once, in the student ghetto, the commissars placed a couple of concrete bollards in the middle of an intersection and linked them with 1" x 6" planks. One of the locals used to come out with his Jeep equipped with Barden bumpers, back up, roar down the street, and smash the lumber into splinters as the whole neighborhood looked on and cheered.

Eventually they replaced the bollards + planks with solid concrete "traffic calmers."

585 Hello, a-non, after searching your hash on this site, I think you are sincere. But I don't see why you would think that the wapo article isn't addressed by ace's post.

The article (by omission) seems to want to limit the history of alleged sexual abuse by politicians to 3 people: Al Franken, Roy Moore, and Donald Trump, and then claims that Republicans are horrible for electing PDT and trying to elect Moore, allegedly not holding them to any standards.

But that ignores the history of Democrats covering for people like Clinton, and of encouraging a culture that tolerates harassment, both of which were the point of the post.

The article also implicitly equates the case against Franken, with that grotesque leering photo that even he cannot deny, with the accusations against Moore and Trump which don't pass the sniff test. This just a very sloppy hack job.

If you argue with liberals, you can use the points in the post without reference to the article. I doubt liberals would ever reference this article in a discussion anyway. It's a light throwaway piece.

And the reason that won't and cannot be done is because every company in the nation has forced it's management employees to sign non compete agreements that are incredibly overreaching. Most non competes today prevent a person from leaving employer A and going to employer B if employer B has ANY direct or indirect or even thinking about engaging in the same business as employer A.

And these non competes other than in CA, are legal. Until either the feds or each individual state gov.passes laws declaring them illegal , you are absolutely screwed.

And the result is any time a company needs to replace an employee with a skill or experience in a certain sector, they can't . They have to bring in people who know nothing about the field.

I was stuck in a traffic jam on the freeway when some bitch came roaring up the on ramp right to the end, then decided she was going to push in front of me.

You push any further, and I'll scrub out the driver's side of your nice shiny late model car with the passenger side of my shitty 18 year old basic model car. And then I'll blame you for the accident, because those merging are supposed to yield right of way.

629 Calming? Not so much.

Santa Moronica has been doing that shit for years. More like

"Traffic calming" measures are an outright admission that the parties responsible have so fucked up traffic on arterial roads, that motorists seek to use neighborhood streets as a work-around.

Pickled eggs require not only vinegar but beet juice, onions and sliced beets. Turns the eggs pink. Very purty as well as tasty. I eat them during roundabouts.

635 Pickled eggs are tasty but best to peel em before pickling, I think.

644 Also re: the WaPo article. There is lots of weasel wording.

"And perhaps to contrast themselves with Republicans who took days to condemn Alabama GOP Senate candidate Roy Moore, a flock of Democratic senators came forward to condemn Franken's behavior"

To contrast themselves? As opposed to having backed themselves in a corner when this inconvenient truth popped up.

"Democrats would be wise to take a stance of zero tolerance toward current members and refuse to support candidates who have engaged in any form of sexual abuse or assault."

Would be wise? As if Democrats had never countenanced anything like this before, so it "would be wise" not to be as corrupt as those wicked Republicans going forward. This, as if Bill Clinton or Ted Kennedy or Bob Menendez never existed.

"Republicans have a bigger problem, of course, starting with Moore. Sure it would be an embarrassment if Alabama voters sent someone accused of multiple acts of child sexual predation to the Senate"

This equates the hard evidence of the Frankenphoto with the deluge of discredited bullshit against Moore.

"Trump flatly denied all allegations. And yet Republicans backed him in 2016 and stand by him to this day."

Again. This is attempting to say "The Dems have been pristine all this time, and are willing to investigate Franken, but the Republican voters don't care - they just elected Trump". This ignores the fact that Democrat voters routinely vote for and enable people like Clinton, which the article omits. It also implies the charges against Trump are comparable to Franken. It is complete crap.

Until recently, we had a traffic sign just before a roundabout indicating turn left to enter the interstate. It would be easy to misinterpret that as an indication to circle clockwise.

656 And this is why I predict Moore will win.

They aren't even trying to make it all plausible any longer, they are just pandering to the leftist who are their only paying customers.

They may think the people of Alabama are rubes, but they are not. They see what is going on, and they will largely call BS on all of this. For the same reason the rejected Luther Strange, despite everyone tell them that they had to vote for him.

657 Kathy in Kansas --

You are so right about roundabouts in your state. South of Pittsburg, in the middle of nowhere, there is one at the intersection of two highways (I forget which). Apparently the standard stop sign looks too much from Hicksville.
