Probably some innocent explanation. But, imagine if the parties were reversed. The howls from the NYT about how it proves that the basic ideology behind the candidate is inherently racist would be defening. Posted by: TheJamesMadison at October 18, 2017 03:06 PM (0eoFj) 13

OT: Just went down the YouTube rabbit hole and found videos of "Sovereign Citizens" getting yanked out of their cars by cops. The "Sovereign Citizens" claim they're not the United States citizens so they don't have to obey any US laws, or cops. Seems like idiot college aged pot heads. Aggravating to listen to until they get tazed. Never heard of this weirdness. Smells like Sorros.
Soverign Citizens are hilarious. There legitimately is a Constitutional right generally knows as "Freedom of Movement" which allows one to travel between states at will. SovCits twist this and claim they have a "right to travel" which means they can drive a private vehicle without a license, registration, or insurance and are exempt from regulation as long as they're not engaging in commerce or causing harm to people or property. As soon as a cop pulls them over, the SovCit will demand to know why their right to travel is being restrained. They will argue they're not driving, they're travelling. They'll demand to have proof of the crime they've committed which permits the LEO to pull them over. And as soon as they're yanked from the car because they ALWAYS refuse to identify themselves, they'll scream that the cop doesn't know their own laws and is violating the SovCit's rights. If someone says of a veteran who lost their life in combat, "they knew what they were signing up for", it is a compliment. The person knew they could be put into a hostile and dangerous situation and they signed up anyway, fully knowing the dangers - they took on the responsibility.
Now if a veteran lost their life in combat and it was said of them, "they didn't know what they were signing up for", that person is then painted as some kind of idiot. Facial tattoos are almost required gang identifiers with Latino gangs since putting the gang tattoos on your face shows absolute commitment.
Young men in Central and South America who want to drop out of their gangs--usually because of religious conversion--must remove their gang tattoos to show no affiliation. Many of them do this by burning off tattoos with repeated 'skin treatments' of Nair hair remover and other readily available chemical mixtures, such as lye, that burn skin. The scarring is horrible but most who leave the gangs consider it worth it. Posted by: troyriser at October 18, 2017 03:56 PM (Fw5cQ) 318

Oh sure, you go back you can find plenty. But not today. Modern country is pretty boys and girls with a cowboy hat singing pop music. I doubt many of them have even seen a horse outside a zoo.
Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at October 18, 2017 04:21 PM (39g3+) It's what they used to call (maybe they still do) "lifestyle" music. It's background music or the kind of music advertisers use to sell things aimed a certain demographic. Posted by: JoeF. at October 18, 2017 04:25 PM (7uYFy) 446
Not related to this topic: How are your mom and dad doing?
Posted by: moki at October 18, 2017 04:22 PM (V+V4 Dad is doing well and his rehab is going nicely, thank goodness. Mommy is so so. Dad is doing well so he is back to trying to control everything. As in she went down yesterday and he had all his clothes out and said okay take me home and not hilarity ensued. The rehab place is very nice and they assured us today that when he's released home, they will have all the in home PT scheduled and they'll make sure he has any needed equipment so she feels better now. Thank you very much for asking. Posted by: alexthechick - Ragebunny. Hopping all around. at October 18, 2017 04:25 PM (mf5HN) 447
I agree. But maybe the audience for country music changed. Maybe it's no longer truckers and shit knickers who listen to country these days. I don't care for today's country. If I want to hear '70's and '80's rock, I'll listen to '70's and '80's rock. Because that's what today's country is. Posted by: JoeF. Good lord Joe, get your ears checked. And 70's and 80's rock don't belong in the same sentence, with each other. There's lots to choose from in country, it's not all the same. I can't stand most of it, and it's not because it sounds like classic rock. Posted by: Dirks Strewn at October 18, 2017 04:15 PM (L6jpn) Damn, I was just going to start to listen to some modern country too. lol. I like classic rock. I listen to Country Highway on Sirius and there is more than enough 'true to the roots' music. Most of the pop country comes from the female singers but admittedly I like some of that too.

There is country music (Johnny Cash for example), there is bluegrass music (Sleepy Man, formerly Sleepy Man Banjo Boys, for example), and there is music by Marty Robbins.
Two Robbins political classics for any occasion are "Ain't I Right" and "My Own Native Land" Posted by: RioBravo at October 18, 2017 04:28 PM (SsblQ) 452

Eric Church is pretty good country. He also has some great songs bashing modern country music, to boot.

Honestly I like roots, zydeco, and bluegrass much more than country.

****** well, someone in admin should be figuring out what to do about it, other than waiting for trump's appeal court judges to do their jobs. Posted by: Witwickian Sage at October 18, 2017 04:43 PM (RDd1I) 457
Is the deletion really a denigration, a backspace on the blackface? Or is it something more sinister? A plot to bring people of color to their knees...trust the democrats.

I'm from OK and I don't like C&W. Never have, never will. Can't stand twangy sounding music or singing.

I would add that in 2013, when Northam was running for his current job, (Lieutenant Governor), he refused to shake the hand of his black Republican opponent, E. W. Jackson, after a debate. There is video, if you look it up.
What if a Republican did that? Posted by: Isophorone at October 18, 2017 05:25 PM (HbXav) 460
41 Northram is really in trouble. Did not think Gillespie had a prayer. Of course, they probably the NoVA vote count until the very end again to give us false hope.
Posted by: Benji Carver at October 18, 2017 03:11 PM (OD2ni) They delay because they have to know how much to stuff the ballot box. Also, stuffing takes time. Happens every time here in MO, especially St. Louis County Supervisor elections. Looking at you, Steve Stenger. Who thinks the county actually voted in a Democrat in 2017 after Ferguson? Interesting also is the fact that his Flier d'Omission lacks any link to the fact he's a DEMOCRAT! This same tactic is used in Memphis all the time now - there are NO party identifiers for any candidate, so unless you've really done your homework, made a list, checked it twice, and remembered to bring it with you when you vote, you're unable to tell who's with which party because the old (D), (R), and (I) markers are now removed. I saw the same tactic used in N'Awlins before I moved to Memphis. When they don't have the balls to tell voters which party they're affiliated with, why should we vote for ANY of 'em ... ? Oh. Right. We HAVE to.
