Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Monday Overnight Open Thread (10/2/17)Guns.com: Department of Defense officials aren’t sure whether $702 million allocated for ammo was spent properly in Afghanistan. In a report released last week, the Defense Department’s inspector general said the Combined Security Transition Command, which trains and equips Afghan defense and security forces, did not have assurance that the money “supported actual requirements and was used for its intended purposes.” The inspector general said the command “did not provide effective oversight of ammunition that was procured by the DoD.” Pope Francis, phrasing mistake or his true beliefs? You are ‘warriors of hope’!” Francis exclaimed during his address to the many migrants present, urging them not to give in to disappointment or despair. After undergoing a labiaplasty – a procedure to reduce the size of her labia – Kiss decided to keep the discarded vaginal skin and turn it into a memorable charm. Preserving the excess skin in a jar for several months, Kiss blinged it up by sprinkling it in glitter then poured a clear resin over it to create a pendant. She then created a hole and threaded a string in through it to fashion a necklace October 2, 1998, America's singing cowboy Gene Autry died aged 91. There's not some trick involved with it. It's pure and it's real. It moves, it heals, it communicates and does all these incredible things. Tom PettyThe ONT can't argue with that. My first experience with Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers music? The movie FM. Decades ago, men went to work and women stayed at home to take care of the home and children. This of course changed a lot. In 1950, a bit over 30 percent of women aged 16 to 64 worked, and just over 80 percent of men in the same age group did. In 2015, it’s closer to 70 percent for women and high 70s for men. Naturally, men and women now work many of the same jobs, but many jobs are mostly men or mostly women. Here’s what it looked like in 2015, based on data from the American Community Survey. Over time, even facts we consider steadfast truths can change. People used to think doctors could forgo washing their hands before surgery. Knowledge is ever evolving. The seven ideas below probably changed since your school days. Re-educate yourself. For the last 30 years, the Puerto Rican government has been completely inept at handling regular societal needs, so I just don’t see it functioning in a crisis like this one. Even before the hurricane hit, water and power systems were already broken. And our $118 billion debt crisis is a result of government corruption and mismanagement. The governor Ricardo Rossello has little experience. He’s 36 and never really held a job and never dealt with a budget. His entire administration is totally inexperienced and they have no clue how to handle a crisis of this magnitude. It certainly beats a "I'm with stupid T-shirt. Genius Award Winner. This and ten thousand other examples are why I nod in agreement when people call for cuts to the military; there's stupidity, fraud, waste, duplication, and misuse of funds there like in every other department. I just don't want the cuts to END there. I'm fine with starting in the military to show good faith in working toward smaller, smarter government, but it has to keep going to all of the government. If there is a G-d and if He cares for humanity, the Catholic Church is part of His plan. (I'd say the same for those Protestants and Jews who haven't drunk the kool-aid.) The communion of Catholics is just too large for G-d to ignore.
Which does sound like Too Big To Fail, I know... Either G-d is setting the Church up for destruction, or else G-d is working to temper and to strengthen it. I've placed my bet with the latter option. We do still have conservative priests. I'm in a congregation under one of them. Some of those "changed facts" are still at least somewhat controversial. That Pluto isn't a planet, for example. According to sumguy in Science News, the new definition that excludes Pluto has serious problems: because it is based partly on how much the object interacts with other objects, Earth would also have trouble meeting the definition of a planet if it were that far out.

I need moron HELP, seriously. If ISIS is telling the truth then the likely source of their threatened follow up attack is given right in the name they made up for Paddock:
"Abu Abdul Barr al-Amriki" translates as "father of worshipful pious son from America." ISIS is claiming that Paddock has an illegitimate son who has joined ISIS. If this is true we need to identify him--find out if there are any Paddock ex-girlfriends with a son of unaccounted parentage--because if such a son exists he is likely the source of the second related attack that ISIS is hinting at. See Rita Katz' tweet about ISIS doubling down on its claim of responsibility. The second claim includes a vague threat: pro-#ISIS message states that those saying it "has nothing to do" w attack will "regret" it If ISIS is telling the truth, and there IS an illegitimate son, the best bet is that they have him lined up for a second attack, maybe another hotel room full of shooting platforms somewhere. We need to identify him so we can round him up and question him. Obvious people to ask are Paddock's brothers, his ex wife, and his recent girlfriend. How can we get people (ultimately the intelligence community) onto this obvious line of inquiry? Anything you can think of, please help! Posted by: Alec Rawls at October 02, 2017 10:32 PM (AphMS) 135

Trevor Noah, from South Africa where gun violence and murder rate outstrips the USA significantly, is lecturing us all on gun laws. Most firearms-related homicides are committed by members of monolithic Democratic voter blocs shooting other members of the same in cities misgoverned by Democrats for decades. Take those out and the homicide rate looks positively European. So the common sense, reasonable approach to gun control is to take guns away from Democrats. The last nine months have shown they have poor impulse control anyway. Posted by: Hadrian the Seventh at October 02, 2017 10:33 PM (FbufE) 139

Known as "clearing the neighborhood," meaning a true planet is the singular, dominant object in its orbital path. It does get more difficult the further out you go. nothing i've heard about this vegas shooter adds up. he didn't snap, this was well planned out.
-- Why do people withhold facts? Because they do not want you to know the facts. Is it because this was a well planned out ISIS attack and there are ISIS cells in Vegas? Is it because he's a rabid leftist who is involved with Antifa and planned this with their aid, AND the aid of the DNC/ Soros/Organizing for America? Is it because this guy is the patsy, and when they stormed the room, he was already dead by someone elses hand, and they have no idea who the real shooter/shooters are? The Beer Store photo is from Ontario.
The provincial government's monopoly granted to (certain) brewers to run beer sales in single-use buildings used to be called the Brewers Retail but as that was too literate for today's kids and confusing to foreigners who didn't know that you can't just start up a beer store or sell beer in e.g. grocery or corner stores, it was changed to the Beer Store. It took a while but small craft breweries were eventually allowed to sell their products through the then-Brewers Retail rather than just the major breweries. I don't know where or when the photo's flood was. Posted by: andycanuck at October 02, 2017 11:00 PM (mJ8mX) 286

Since this was no-shit my field when I was doing history, I can report that the specialists on this topic are still arguing the point. Many of us would ask whether the fact of Rome itself falling to Ostrogoths (who were classically literate by then) was even a civilisational problem. In America I don't think we need to worry about a fall to barbarians. I'd worry more about a fall to an Emperor. By which I mean I kind of hope we do fall to an Emperor, in the constitutional-monarch kind of way. Posted by: boulder terlit hobo at October 02, 2017 11:19 PM (6FqZa) 388

On one hand, an independent Catalonia that the EU hates would help other secessionist movements in Europe and spread nationalism that destroys the EU. However, an independent Catalonia would, for the above reason, be outside NATO and the EU. IIRC, Catalonia has the largest concentration of radical Imams, and are known since the Spanish Civil War for being hardcore Leftists. Without the EU or NATO, Catalonia could become ground zero for the "de-conquista"... and perhaps a spark for burgeoning European caliphates... and for the crushing thereof. With Europe's luck, they are doomed. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: The U.S. should have a three-fold plan for when the s**t hits the fan. 1). Grab the French nukes. 2). Grab any movable historical and cultural artifacts. 3). Grab any overseas territories/provinces/territories of France, Spain, Netherlands, Portugal, Denmark, &c. My first cat, when I was single digits in age, was called Foxy (he looked kinda like a fox, to my young eyes). He was this lethal hunting tomcat that spent most of his time out in the bush eating whatever he could catch. Once he took a bird down and was furiously eating it, feathers everywhere. Another bird was swooping on him, screaming and yelling, maybe that was its mate. Foxy did a 3 foot backflipping strike and took the other bird down. All the other birds took off and stayed away. Two birds for dinner. Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at October 02, 2017 11:28 PM (39g3+) 429

One of the questions I want to know the answer to: so what's the future of the LV strip, and strip security?
One of my hunches: the place is going to end up 'walled off' so to speak, at least electronically. Tons of cameras, motion sensors and tech that squeals if it find certain items of certain chemical or mineral makeup passing through. And, LVPD will develop new ways of closing off the entire area so in an emergency, no one can enter or leave. Frankly I'm surprised more hasn't been done on this front before now; or maybe it has and it's just that no one talks about it, which would also make sense. Glad Joyce is still doing well. My FIL lost his battle last Wednesday. We are up in NJ and going back to Texas tomorrow. Two long days, visitation for 4 hours yesterday and then back to have final words before closing the casket this morning, full funeral mass, and then the burial at the cemetery which had a back up since 3 other burials where going on. My husband wanted to skip the repast. We're exhausted! Plus there was a bunch of passive aggressive stuff going on from the widow toward my husband. Oh, and I got a UTI, that'll be fun on the plane ride home.... I just don't have words for these last ten months.... Posted by: lin-duh falling at October 02, 2017 11:31 PM (tERfn) 451

Michael Savage had a call tonight from a military guy who used to be a neighbor of the alleged NV shooter. Said the suspect was a friendly guy who sat out with his garage door open drinking beer and waving to neighbors. The caller said the guy liked to hang out a local beer and gambling machine place, and he had run into him there and drank and talked with him. Said he was not political, not antimilitary, just regular friendly guy. When Savage pressed, the caller said he didn't think that the guy could have been the shooter, and may have been set up. He also mentioned that he had moved away in June 2016, which made me wonder what could have happened in the suspects life and mind since then. Just thought I'd pass that on.

But... take it from someone who's been through a few rough spots, thanks to too much gambling: I've heard numerous stories of people getting *so* deep in debt, and going through *so* much money, they end up deeply, impenetrably depressed. And we all know how unstable severely depressed people can become. Supposedly the flick "Owning Mahony" covers this topic somewhat, based on a true story about a man with a good life, good income, and who threw EVERYTHING away, just to gamble. "Our intellectual superiors are so stupid and ignorant of history that they have no idea why Rome fell.
Posted by: boulder terlit hobo at October 02, 2017 11:19 PM (6FqZa)" ------ Granted that it wasn't as catastrophic as portrayed but it was still loss of power by those long used to wielding it. As for a possible emperor, someone already suggested that FDR was one. We are again heading in that direction due solely to the numbnut Republicicans in Congress. They were so afraid of being labelled as racist that they let Obama get away with ruling by executive orders. All of a sudden she reached up, closed off one of her nostrils and blew her nose right onto the ground. For a 10-year-old boy who was still trying to figure out how to hawk a loogie, that was perhaps the most amazing thing I had ever seen.

I'm glad that you are able to think that, Chris. You are obviously not a "young" person and so have dealt with people who have committed suicide before. I don't know many people who haven't dealt with them or had those feelings themselves, or so those of us who have had those feelings know when we're not in darkness that people would be devastated by your loss even people we don't know that well. I remember being devastated by the suicide of an spirited, funny, creative Pastor who was in her middle thirties and whom I only saw once a year at our Annual Denominational Meeting. So, if a person whom I only saw once a year can have that big of an impact, you are right that the trauma would be long, long lasting with your family and close friends. I want to share this message with any other Chris's here or Petes, or Michaels or Sues or whomever. When you are thinking of committing suicide and are not near death from a terminal disease or something it's the product of a diseased mind (A person terminally would have a diseased mind too, but I'm not getting into that debate) and IMO, the devil wants the death of suicide by people who are having chemical imbalances and/or having a very hard patch in their lives because the devil comes to kill, steal and destroy. "Is there such a thing as a "low powered rifle?" I would say that the .22 rimfire would qualify. There are intermediate power cartridges of which the two most famous are .223 and 7.62x39. In hunting the .223 is used for small game - varmint hunting and the 7.62x39 is the ballistic equivalent of the old 30/30 Winchester. Posted by: geoffb at October 02, 2017 11:58 PM (zOpu5) 542

Regarding labiaplasty...
This is what happens when you begin to compare labia. You're never satisfied. Oh, for the good old days, when a man was lucky to see a single set of labia in his lifetime, and a woman assumed that the way God made hers was OK. I didn't click on the link about the groom who saved a kid from drowning because I saw the story elsewhere (Great story), but I read that his future wife- who was in her wedding dress and was gorgeous- said she wasn't upset-that his doing that was an indication of why she wanted to marry him because he's a wonderfully caring man. In fact, if you saw someone drowning and your fiancee/ fiancee DIDN"T want to jump in and save them that would be a reason NOT to marry them. Clothes can be cleaned and photos can be re-shot-a drowning bow can't be saved after the fact.

Preserving the excess skin in a jar for several months, Kiss blinged it up by sprinkling it in glitter then poured a clear resin over it to create a pendant. She then created a hole and threaded a string in through it to fashion a necklace Truly these are tacky times. (Just out of curiosity, how much did her IQ drop when she did this?) HP rounds have less ricochet potential because they more efficiently dump kinetic force into your body through expansion of the bullet. The ill informed(of which the media are a proud and willful membership class) forget that the Geneva Conventions stress FMJ rounds as a humanitarian gesture. AP rounds because of the rigidity of the bullet penetrate better because in maintaining their shape they pass through and through. This phenomena is what is being alluded to in BlackHawk Down when the D boys are decrying the Ranger use of the "green tips." Pope Francis, phrasing mistake or his true beliefs? Migrants are Warriors of Hope.
"Do you know what you are? You are 'warriors of hope'!" Francis exclaimed during his address to the many migrants present, urging them not to give in to disappointment or despair. "silencer would have a detrimental effect on the bullet speed and/or accuracy. ... only functional for a limited number of shots (degraded or disabled?) It depends on the type of silencer. The ones that do not mechanically touch the bullet AND control the propellant gasses, so they do not interact with the bullet after it leaves the barrel, do not degrade the bullet speed and/or accuracy ... of course, the bullet velocity is subsonic, usually around M0.8, so heavier bullets are likely to perform as expected, while lighter bullets might be less stable. Life of this type of silencer is dependent on the internal materials, their thickness, and the load used. Metal lasts longer than plastic, thick metal lasts longer than thin metal, less powerful loads (usually subsonic loads) put less pressure and heat into the silencer than full power loads. Some silencers have rubber or leather washers that both touch the bullet, potentially affecting velocity & stability and, because they are rubber or leather, burn out. The Delisle .45 cal silenced carbine had an all-metal silencer that did not touch the bullet. Tests indicated the silencer was still performing acceptably after 5000 rounds. Tee Welrod used washers, leather IIRC, ans was good for about 50 rounds, certainly less than 100. It then required replacement. The modern designs fare similarly. The most important characteristic of this guy is he apparently planned everything ahead and didn't skimp on money. Enough ammo for a small war; loads of backup weapons in case one jammed/broke/whatever; chose a confined, densely packed target; spent the time and money to modify his guns for a more rapid rate of fire.
This guy was an accountant, right? It wouldn't surprise me if his thinking was along the lines of "if I dump x bullets with an average inaccuracy of y arcminutes, how many bullets do I need to shoot to hit such-and-such percentage of people packed together in a given area?" and then just worked on a method of dumping as many bullets as possible in as short a period as possible before the crowd dispersed. He'd been there for days, so he'd probably already run the numbers, sighted in the guns or whatever, and let loose. Honestly, the more I think about it, the more reasonable that seems. It explains the elevation: he's just using the gun as a lead sprinkler along an already worked-out trajectory and trusting in random error to scatter bullets widely into the crowd. 1. Factory-loaded .300AAC/.300 Blackout 208 grain loads are subsonic, even when using a 16" barrel, although only just, and depending on area temperature & humidity and manufacturing variances, might still produce a sonic snap. 2. Headline at Drudge: "VIDEO POKER DEBTS DROVE HIM TO MADNESS?" Note the question mark at the end of the headline. I think the guy lost a very large amount of money, possibly the bulk of his fortune, and then snapped. -- Well, Assange is all about Catalonia. As for 4chan, well, they tend of drift more than we do. However... this is kind of interesting: If you want to know where Stephen Paddock and Marilou Danley's money come from then read this, I'll make it very simple: 1- Stephen Paddock is dating Marilou Danley 2- Marilou Danley has a daughter named Sheila Darcey, Sheila's father is Geary Danley 3- Sheila Darcey is married to Micah Linton 4- Micah Linton is son of billionaire biotech CEO of Promega; William A Linton >Promega, which William Linton founded in 1978, had $367 million of revenue in 2014, according to its 2015 corporate responsibility report. The company has more than 1,400 employees and sells more than 3,000 products, according to its website, including such tools as a DNA kit that was used to help identify victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. You can check this and confirm this for yourself by just going to their Facebook profiles "Geary Danley" "Micah Linton" William A Linton goes as "Bill Linton" on Facebook. So the question is: Was Stephen Paddock just some crazy dude with a rich sugarmommy who got her money from her rich in-laws? or was he legitimately connected to deep state billionaires? Posted by: Country Singer at October 03, 2017 12:39 AM Well, with where the seats were, Mike Campbell had a good view of us doing the drunken white girl dance. Then when we rushed the pit during the encore (ok we had a connection, they let us go after all the hollyweirdos bailed) and we kinda made a scene when they kicked off American Girl. So Mike saunters over to Tom & whispers in his ear. They both look at all of us and laughed their asses off. THEN, when we were leaving, we went out through the side of the shell and Mike Campbell was in the passage chatting up some chick. He sees all of us and does a double take. AWESOME night! "He was sniper accurate"
Some math. He was between 1200 and 1500 feet from the venue. The flat area of the venue is about 100 feet by 200 feet. There are also stands for seated customers that would almost triple the area but I'm going to use just the flat ground and the greater distance. Hitting a 100' x 200' target at 1500' is like hitting at 10'x20' target at 150' or a 1'x2' at 15 feet. Now wind would make this harder at the long distance and also as I said on another thread shooting at a downward, or upward, angle makes you hit high as the bullet drop only figures for the horizontal distance which is shorter than the slant range. Firing full auto is not done for accuracy and would spread the hits out over an area which is exactly what he would want. This was planned out for some time from all the evidence seen so far. I wouldn't go that far, but it becomes easier to believe, since we are being lied to. This attack was not a spur of the moment snap. It was planned to a high degree, and unless that was his room, he likely had inside help from someone on the hotel staff. The idea that all of this came to fruition, in isolation, without a single other living soul knowing or at least having some inkling that the shooter was off his rocker isn't just unbelievable, it's insulting. And if nobody knew, then what about the lady shouting threats 45 minutes before? The official narrative we're being given doesn't make sense, and I'm going to apply the Judge Judy Rule here. If it doesn't make sense, it isn't true. Posted by: Cato the Rebel Without a Party at October 03, 2017 12:58 AM (J+mig) 736

On the shooter. The only thing I can think of is some diagnosis of terminal illness and, egged on by the MSM's behaviour since the election, decided to go out with a bang. After undergoing a labiaplasty - a procedure to reduce the size of her labia - Kiss decided to keep the discarded vaginal skin and turn it into a memorable charm.
Preserving the excess skin in a jar for several months, Kiss blinged it up by sprinkling it in glitter then poured a clear resin over it to create a pendant. She then created a hole and threaded a string in through it to fashion a necklace It would have been cooler if she had had it sewn onto one of her eyelids. I am impressed, however, that she was able to "create" a hole. That is really something. Posted by: ThePrimordialOrderedPair at October 03, 2017 02:24 AM (8gDQu) 796

The greatest reason for this is inflation - serious, costly inflation. Most couples can no longer support a family (even a small family) on only the man's income. --- my first run-in with inflation happened when i was still in grade school. #Failifornia introduced the $0.05 bottle deposit, and suddenly, if i found 3 soda pop bottles on the way home from school, i could have a Hostess fruit pie, or some other forbidden treat, as they were all 15 cents, and suddenly within my price range (i got fuck all for an allowance, and had to account for every penny spent). i was thrilled. within a few months though, the prices went up, first to 25 cents, then to 35, and the supply of discarded bottles dried up too. Were women to suddenly leave the workforce in droves to, say, raise a family or two, I suspect wages would rise to the level of demand. Posted by: tcn in AK at October 03, 2017 02:58 AM (NXsWM) I don't think so. There certainly might be other effects of women leaving the workforce (in such large numbers, that is) but I wouldn't bet that it would increase men's wages to the point of having an effective income equal to the two jobs a couple works today. There are just lots of costs that have been added to our lives. Many of these costs are stealth - hidden in regulation. Some of them are added pieces of a modern life that just didn't exist before. And then there are the leech fields, which are industries that have piggy-backed on what were increasing wages due to two earners in order to extract their pound of income flesh. School costs are one example. They have risen at an absolutely insane rate - and that is coupled with the fact that more schooling is demanded of people, even for jobs where it doesn't matter and even though the expensive schooling of today doesn't come close to providing the education or skills that it did decades ago. There is no reasonable defense for a standard textbook (for a class that hasn't really changed measurably in 50 years) to be $400, especially when every cost associated with printing and publishing has fallen dramatically. This problem is best seen, I guess, in e-books, which should cost close to nothing but are sky high. On top of all that there has been steady core inflation that has eaten away at the dollar at a much faster rate than incomes have risen, on average. This is something quite distinct from the working world. It's the product of the Fed's intentional policy and the federal government's total lack of control over its expenditures. That's how see it all, at least. If women were to leave the workforce in large numbers I think it would mostly result in reduced standards of living. Wages for the men couldn't rise that much since there is a pretty low limit at which offshoring of many jobs could occur. Posted by: ThePrimordialOrderedPair at October 03, 2017 03:22 AM (8gDQu) 809

Didn't watch the game, but read twitter feeds after. A local KC sportstalk guy who's prog-ish, even condemned Marcus Peters for kneeling. He said: "Not today."
And he also blasted him for cussing at a woman in the stands after he got burned the 2nd time for a TD. Said Peters has the emotional maturity of a squirrel. Carlos Danger: I haven't been back in a couple years; didn't know KC had a Container Store. It actually has a lot of gadgets that can keep you occupied while she's looking at closet shelving. After the spiked dip in productivity, due to the weeklong male celebration, productivity would plateau at a rate in excess of 'with womyn'. The lack of drama, cat-fight squabbles , personal soap operas needing community solutions... What was in the ads you shared with Congress? How many people saw them?
Most of the ads appear to focus on divisive social and political messages across the ideological spectrum, touching on topics from LGBT matters to race issues to immigration to gun rights. A number of them appear to encourage people to follow Pages on these issues. Here are a few other facts about the ads: - An estimated 10 million people in the US saw the ads. We were able to approximate the number of unique people ("reach") who saw at least one of these ads, with our best modeling - 44% of total ad impressions (number of times ads were displayed) were before the US election on November 8, 2016; 56% were after the election. - Roughly 25% of the ads were never shown to anyone. That's because advertising auctions are designed so that ads reach people based on relevance, and certain ads may not reach anyone as a result. - For 50% of the ads, less than $3 was spent; for 99% of the ads, less than $1,000 was spent. Occasionally it lands on homicide. But every once in a long, long while it lands standing up on it's side - both homicide and suicide. Mornin'.
When I was a teenager, one of my core group of hang-out friends was obsessive-and quite talented-at finding loose change. He'd often pick up his share of the gas and beer money that way. One of his favorites was cigarette machines, where the change just dumped down willy-nilly into the same tray as the cigs and some would often be left behind. Pay phones would be another long-lost source. Amazing how many people would hurry away from the phone after finishing their call without waiting for their change. This kid I hung with stuck his fingers in every pay phone slot we passed by. He just did it automatically, without even thinking about it. We used to tease him over it but he was famous for how much money he cadged that way. I'd occasionally try checking some pay-phone slots to see if I had his luck, but usually came up empty. Same with pop machines or any kind of vending machines. Those hot coffee machines. Damn it seems there were a lot more vending machines around in the late 70s-early 80s than now. There was a self-car wash with several change machines that used to "spit" the coins out the slot, and he'd be picking up muddy quarters three feet away. Probably the biggest payoffs came from the ground outside fast-food drive-in windows. I was recently wandering around a commercial district while my car was serviced and walked by the drive-in window of a taco joint (closed that early in the morning) and kept finding more and more and more change, the more I looked. Made me remember my ol' super-cheapskate (or super-thrifty) buddy. Posted by: WhatWhatWhat? at October 03, 2017 06:14 AM (ul9CR) 826
