This and ten thousand other examples are why I nod in agreement when people call for cuts to the military; there's stupidity, fraud, waste, duplication, and misuse of funds there like in every other department.
I just don't want the cuts to END there. I'm fine with starting in the military to show good faith in working toward smaller, smarter government, but it has to keep going to all of the government.

I think it was on "The Critic" where Tom was Translating for Dylan, yet they still couldn't understand what was said. lol.
I got to see Tom on his Freefalling tour. It was Nov 1 in Texas, around the time the first real cold front comes through, and one did! It was 30f with a 30mph wind blowing through the outdoor venue! (so wind chill was close to 0!)

Spoke with Joyce and Hubby this afternoon.
Today was an Avastin day, and everything went fine. Her doctor even cleared Joyce for a cruise!
And after some "negotiating," he also cleared her for therapeutic horse riding.

"Abu Abdul Barr al-Amriki" translates as "father of worshipful pious son from America." ISIS is claiming that Paddock has an illegitimate son who has joined ISIS.
If this is true we need to identify him--find out if there are any Paddock ex-girlfriends with a son of unaccounted parentage--because if such a son exists he is likely the source of the second related attack that ISIS is hinting at.
See Rita Katz' tweet about ISIS doubling down on its claim of responsibility. The second claim includes a vague threat:
pro-#ISIS message states that those saying it "has nothing to do" w attack will "regret" it
If ISIS is telling the truth, and there IS an illegitimate son, the best bet is that they have him lined up for a second attack, maybe another hotel room full of shooting platforms somewhere.
We need to identify him so we can round him up and question him. Obvious people to ask are Paddock's brothers, his ex wife, and his recent girlfriend.
How can we get people (ultimately the intelligence community) onto this obvious line of inquiry? Anything you can think of, please help!

Potentially true, though we may have a few months before they turn. I have none in my life living down 3 miles a gravel road and a gravel driveway with clean lines of sight and crazy barking dogs. Impossible to approach without prior notification. Loaded 12 guage, 8MM rifle, and a 357 within easy reach at night. I wear the 357 when working our 52+ acres. The missus wears her 38 snubby. The provincial government's monopoly granted to (certain) brewers to run beer sales in single-use buildings used to be called the Brewers Retail but as that was too literate for today's kids and confusing to foreigners who didn't know that you can't just start up a beer store or sell beer in e.g. grocery or corner stores, it was changed to the Beer Store.
It took a while but small craft breweries were eventually allowed to sell their products through the then-Brewers Retail rather than just the major breweries.

Yeah, they certainly picked a pair of winners. On SoG, they did have some talented smiths, and should have started a show with the one that left.
I saw some AmGuns, but it was so staged and fake, (even more than usual) I couldn't take it.
My dad loved those shows, even tho he could tell the fake drama, he'd still watch religiously. (hes got some low budget directing under his belt)

A quick squashing of Catalonia would mean, ironically enough, a boon to the status quo, both good and bad.
On one hand, an independent Catalonia that the EU hates would help other secessionist movements in Europe and spread nationalism that destroys the EU.
However, an independent Catalonia would, for the above reason, be outside NATO and the EU. IIRC, Catalonia has the largest concentration of radical Imams, and are known since the Spanish Civil War for being hardcore Leftists. Without the EU or NATO, Catalonia could become ground zero for the "de-conquista"... and perhaps a spark for burgeoning European caliphates... and for the crushing thereof.
With Europe's luck, they are doomed.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: The U.S. should have a three-fold plan for when the s**t hits the fan.
1). Grab the French nukes.
2). Grab any movable historical and cultural artifacts.

My first cat, when I was single digits in age, was called Foxy (he looked kinda like a fox, to my young eyes). He was this lethal hunting tomcat that spent most of his time out in the bush eating whatever he could catch.
Once he took a bird down and was furiously eating it, feathers everywhere. Another bird was swooping on him, screaming and yelling, maybe that was its mate. Foxy did a 3 foot backflipping strike and took the other bird down.
All the other birds took off and stayed away. Two birds for dinner.

One of my hunches: the place is going to end up 'walled off' so to speak, at least electronically. Tons of cameras, motion sensors and tech that squeals if it find certain items of certain chemical or mineral makeup passing through.
And, LVPD will develop new ways of closing off the entire area so in an emergency, no one can enter or leave. Frankly I'm surprised more hasn't been done on this front before now; or maybe it has and it's just that no one talks about it, which would also make sense.

Glad Joyce is still doing well. My FIL lost his battle last Wednesday. We are up in NJ and going back to Texas tomorrow. Two long days, visitation for 4 hours yesterday and then back to have final words before closing the casket this morning, full funeral mass, and then the burial at the cemetery which had a back up since 3 other burials where going on. My husband wanted to skip the repast. We're exhausted! Plus there was a bunch of passive aggressive stuff going on from the widow toward my husband.
Oh, and I got a UTI, that'll be fun on the plane ride home.... I just don't have words for these last ten months....

I've heard numerous stories of people getting *so* deep in debt, and going through *so* much money, they end up deeply, impenetrably depressed. And we all know how unstable severely depressed people can become.
Supposedly the flick "Owning Mahony" covers this topic somewhat, based on a true story about a man with a good life, good income, and who threw EVERYTHING away, just to gamble. (He finally started gambling money his employer had entrusted to him, not just his own.)

I loved Foxy. We used to go exploring the woods together, he was my best buddy aside from my brothers. Eventually he was away from home more and more and finally he just never came home one day. But until then, no matter how long he was gone when he saw me he'd run up and love on me. I've been blessed with a long line of great cat friends over the years, I just wish they lived longer.

I'm glad that you are able to think that, Chris. You are obviously not a "young" person and so have dealt with people who have committed suicide before. I don't know many people who haven't dealt with them or had those feelings themselves, or so those of us who have had those feelings know when we're not in darkness that people would be devastated by your loss even people we don't know that well. I remember being devastated by the suicide of an spirited, funny, creative Pastor who was in her middle thirties and whom I only saw once a year at our Annual Denominational Meeting. So, if a person whom I only saw once a year can have that big of an impact, you are right that the trauma would be long, long lasting with your family and close friends. I want to share this message with any other Chris's here or Petes, or Michaels or Sues or
whomever. When you are thinking of committing suicide and are not near death from a terminal disease or something it's the product of a diseased mind (A person terminally would have a diseased mind too, but I'm not getting into that debate) and IMO, the devil wants the death of suicide by people who are having chemical imbalances and/or having a very hard patch in their lives because the devil comes to kill, steal and destroy.

I was given a suicide note by someone online who killed themselves. Apparently I was the last person to treat them well. That was a horrible blow.
But while I have considered suicide quite seriously and very close some times, mostly its just "sure would be nice if this was all over with soon."
But then I get up the next morning and keep slogging on.

Depends on the design and the skill of the gunsmith who drilled the barrel.
The US M3OSS had a can on it that worked for ~600 shots without needing a cleaning and stripping.
That's ~20 mags depending on how clean or dirty the powder burned.....
the gas and powder get caught up in your baffles.

I wasn't at the music festival and don't know anyone who was. I have been to similar festivals, so it does weigh on my mind.
I'm glad that the chance of immediate knee-jerk response in Nevada is low (though never zero). Local county can't impose their own restrictions, and the Legislature adjourned Sine Die until 2019 months ago. Outside chance of a special session if either the Gov. (who has been on the pro-gun side of things) or legislative Republicans (few of whom are *that* stupid) decide to commit political suicide.

It depends on the type of silencer.
The ones that do not mechanically touch the bullet AND control the propellant gasses, so they do not interact with the bullet after it leaves the barrel, do not degrade the bullet speed and/or accuracy ... of course, the bullet velocity is subsonic, usually around M0.8, so heavier bullets are likely to perform as expected, while lighter bullets might be less stable.
Life of this type of silencer is dependent on the internal materials, their thickness, and the load used. Metal lasts longer than plastic, thick metal lasts longer than thin metal, less powerful loads (usually subsonic loads) put less pressure and heat into the silencer than full power loads.
Some silencers have rubber or leather washers that both touch the bullet, potentially affecting velocity & stability and, because they are rubber or leather, burn out.
The Delisle .45 cal silenced carbine had an all-metal silencer that did not touch the bullet. Tests indicated the silencer was still performing acceptably after 5000 rounds. Tee Welrod used washers, leather IIRC, ans was good for about 50 rounds, certainly less than 100. It then required replacement.
The modern designs fare similarly.

This guy was an accountant, right? It wouldn't surprise me if his thinking was along the lines of "if I dump x bullets with an average inaccuracy of y arcminutes, how many bullets do I need to shoot to hit such-and-such percentage of people packed together in a given area?" and then just worked on a method of dumping as many bullets as possible in as short a period as possible before the crowd dispersed. He'd been there for days, so he'd probably already run the numbers, sighted in the guns or whatever, and let loose.
Honestly, the more I think about it, the more reasonable that seems. It explains the elevation: he's just using the gun as a lead sprinkler along an already worked-out trajectory and trusting in random error to scatter bullets widely into the crowd.

Well, with where the seats were, Mike Campbell had a good view of us doing the drunken white girl dance. Then when we rushed the pit during the encore (ok we had a connection, they let us go after all the hollyweirdos bailed) and we kinda made a scene when they kicked off American Girl. Some math.
He was between 1200 and 1500 feet from the venue. The flat area of the venue is about 100 feet by 200 feet. There are also stands for seated customers that would almost triple the area but I'm going to use just the flat ground and the greater distance.
Hitting a 100' x 200' target at 1500' is like hitting at 10'x20' target at 150' or a 1'x2' at 15 feet. Now wind would make this harder at the long distance and also as I said on another thread shooting at a downward, or upward, angle makes you hit high as the bullet drop only figures for the horizontal distance which is shorter than the slant range.
Firing full auto is not done for accuracy and would spread the hits out over an area which is exactly what he would want. This was planned out for some time from all the evidence seen so far.

I wouldn't go that far, but it becomes easier to believe, since we are being lied to.
This attack was not a spur of the moment snap. It was planned to a high degree, and unless that was his room, he likely had inside help from someone on the hotel staff.
The idea that all of this came to fruition, in isolation, without a single other living soul knowing or at least having some inkling that the shooter was off his rocker isn't just unbelievable, it's insulting.
And if nobody knew, then what about the lady shouting threats 45 minutes before?
The official narrative we're being given doesn't make sense, and I'm going to apply the Judge Judy Rule here. If it doesn't make sense, it isn't true.

While the casinos can do whatever they want, the counties and cities can't impose anything that the legislature hasn't authorized statewide. The Legislature adjourned Sine Die months ago and isn't scheduled to meet until 2019.
Unless there is a surprise special session, nothing much beyond what we have now, legally, will happen.

On the shooter. The only thing I can think of is some diagnosis of terminal illness and, egged on by the MSM's behaviour since the election, decided to go out with a bang.
I don't see anything to indicate depression and he seemed to be fine financially. Too early to invoke conspiracy.

Yep; Annoyed me to when I heardit on the TV at a deli I was at. I mean, even if the guy was a member of Antifada it's still an act of terrorism. #Failifornia introduced the $0.05 bottle deposit, and suddenly, if i found 3 soda pop bottles on the way home from school, i could have a Hostess fruit pie, or some other forbidden treat, as they were all 15 cents, and suddenly within my price range (i got fuck all for an allowance, and had to account for every penny spent).
i was thrilled.
within a few months though, the prices went up, first to 25 cents, then to 35, and the supply of discarded bottles dried up too.

I don't think so. There certainly might be other effects of women leaving the workforce (in such large numbers, that is) but I wouldn't bet that it would increase men's wages to the point of having an effective income equal to the two jobs a couple works today.
There are just lots of costs that have been added to our lives. Many of these costs are stealth - hidden in regulation. Some of them are added pieces of a modern life that just didn't exist before.
And then there are the leech fields, which are industries that have piggy-backed on what were increasing wages due to two earners in order to extract their pound of income flesh. School costs are one example. They have risen at an absolutely insane rate - and that is coupled with the fact that more schooling is demanded of people, even for jobs where it doesn't matter and even though the expensive schooling of today doesn't come close to providing the education or skills that it did decades ago. There is no reasonable defense for a standard textbook (for a class that hasn't really changed measurably in 50 years) to be $400, especially when every cost associated with printing and publishing has fallen dramatically. This problem is best seen, I guess, in e-books, which should cost close to nothing but are sky high.
On top of all that there has been steady core inflation that has eaten away at the dollar at a much faster rate than incomes have risen, on average. This is something quite distinct from the working world. It's the product of the Fed's intentional policy and the federal government's total lack of control over its expenditures.
That's how see it all, at least. If women were to leave the workforce in large numbers I think it would mostly result in reduced standards of living. Wages for the men couldn't rise that much since there is a pretty low limit at which offshoring of many jobs could occur.

When I was a teenager, one of my core group of hang-out friends was obsessive-and quite talented-at finding loose change. He'd often pick up his share of the gas and beer money that way.
One of his favorites was cigarette machines, where the change just dumped down willy-nilly into the same tray as the cigs and some would often be left behind.
Pay phones would be another long-lost source. Amazing how many people would hurry away from the phone after finishing their call without waiting for their change. This kid I hung with stuck his fingers in every pay phone slot we passed by. He just did it automatically, without even thinking about it. We used to tease him over it but he was famous for how much money he cadged that way. I'd occasionally try checking some pay-phone slots to see if I had his luck, but usually came up empty.
Same with pop machines or any kind of vending machines. Those hot coffee machines. Damn it seems there were a lot more vending machines around in the late 70s-early 80s than now. There was a self-car wash with several change machines that used to "spit" the coins out the slot, and he'd be picking up muddy quarters three feet away.
Probably the biggest payoffs came from the ground outside fast-food drive-in windows. I was recently wandering around a commercial district while my car was serviced and walked by the drive-in window of a taco joint (closed that early in the morning) and kept finding more and more and more change, the more I looked. Made me remember my ol' super-cheapskate (or super-thrifty) buddy.

They are particularity worried that he turns out to be a Bernie supporter.
