On this day in 1882 Thomas Edison's first commercial hydroelectric power plant (later known as Appleton Edison Light Company) began operation on the Fox River in Appleton, Wisconsin. It took longer to get from my home to Pittsburgh that it would have taken if I had simply drove. I told my bosses that was my last flight to anywhere. if it was to far to drive I would not go. One of the Town Council people brought it up at a meeting one more time after talking with a lawyer, but they way he brought it up was that he was opposed to a new Police Station and he wanted to get that question on the ballot. The way the Town Charter is written says that any question that goes on the Ballot has to be worded exactly the way it was brought up and passed at a Town meeting, in this case a No vote meant you were in favor of a new Police Station and a yes vote meant you did not want a new one.
