Thursday Night's ONT Has No Witty Title

“And if thou gaze long into an abyss, the abyss will also gaze into thee."

And it turns out that the abyss is a kitten!

Cat12.jpg

There's an AP for That

In case you missed it, Austin Petersen is running for Senate to replace the execrable
Claire McCaskill. He's got to make it through the Republican primary first, but his campaign is gaining momentum. Petersen is a former Libertarian candidate for President. I consulted with him when he was considering running, he asked me if he should run as a Libertarian or a Republican. I told him that it had to be as a Republican, that 9 out of 10 people, if they reacted at all upon hearing “Austin Petersen, Libertarian candidate”, would say “Libertarian....was he the one in the diaper?”. Guess he agreed with me, because he's running as a Republican, and IMO he'd be a good one. There aren't many people who want to get into government because they want to stop the government from doing something, but he's one of them.

AP.jpg

Harvey Update

As always when something goes wrong, lots of leftists have been chattering about how more government or better government or different government or some damn government thing couldof/shouldof/wouldof made a difference. The fact that Houston is the least zoned city in America has them all a'flutter, but here is a really quite excellent Twitter thread that does a great job of explaining Houston's flood control system. It's well worth a read.

Of course, through it all, Texas is still Texas.

Some things are unspeakable, however. Shivering tot found clinging to drowned mom. I read another report that said that the mother was a very Christian woman, and that when they found the little girl she said “Mommy is praying for me now”. We all are sweetheart, we all are.

The Waffle House Index . It's really a thing used to gauge the impact of disasters on the south. Very interesting article.

I'm not going to take the time to write out my defense of what a lot of people call price gouging as beneficial to areas suffering from a scarcity of some commodity (like generators after storms), but this is a good read: The Private Sector is Coming to Texas's Rescue

That's a Pretty Shirt

Then again, how many folks do you know covered with Chinese character tattoos? Most of them have no idea what they say either.

Musical Interlude

Just goes to show that a great song rocks no matter how it's being played. I've seen many clips of this song by AC/DC over A-10 footage. I want to see this one as the soundtrack to a clip of Simo Häyhä in action.

Hockey vs Soccer

I mentioned this a while ago. It extends to the coaches too.

Boys of Summer

Lots to unpack here, but only the Brewers have more wins than millions spent in payroll this season. Lots of graphs and stats (in baseball? Who wouldda thought?) at the link.

Fake News

First of all, today there were allegations that CNN may have faked an on-air rescue in Houston:

But whether they did or not, the biggest problem that the MSM has is that, bless their heart, They're just not very smart, and they can't help demonstrating that over and over again.

taylor.jpg

Gyrobus!

This is a cool concept. Now, there's no way those street level tracks wouldn't be obscured by cars all the time, but it might be interesting to see if anything comes of this.

This World Didn't Just Appear

One of the biggest frustrations I have as an historian is the utter and abject ignorance so many people have about HOW this world we live in got that way. Everybody just assumes that because we have technology, we're just so much smarter than anyone else in history. We're not. We're just the same smart. What we do have is the benefit of millennia of human social progress. This high trust society that we live in, one that cherishes the individual and enshrines freedom, that didn't just happen, and it is certainly not the human norm, even today. Try and tell that to kids today and they look at you like you just asked them to breathe water.

Paying the price for breakdown of the country's bourgeois culture

That culture laid out the script we all were supposed to follow: Get married before you have children and strive to stay married for their sake. Get the education you need for gainful employment, work hard, and avoid idleness. Go the extra mile for your employer or client. Be a patriot, ready to serve the country. Be neighborly, civic-minded, and charitable. Avoid coarse language in public. Be respectful of authority. Eschew substance abuse and crime.

These basic cultural precepts reigned from the late 1940s to the mid-1960s. They could be followed by people of all backgrounds and abilities, especially when backed up by almost universal endorsement. Adherence was a major contributor to the productivity, educational gains, and social coherence of that period.
Did everyone abide by those precepts? Of course not. There are always rebels — and hypocrites, those who publicly endorse the norms but transgress them. But as the saying goes, hypocrisy is the homage vice pays to virtue. Even the deviants rarely disavowed or openly disparaged the prevailing expectations.
Was everything perfect during the period of bourgeois cultural hegemony? Of course not. There was racial discrimination, limited sex roles, and pockets of anti-Semitism. However, steady improvements for women and minorities were underway even when bourgeois norms reigned. Banishing discrimination and expanding opportunity does not require the demise of bourgeois culture. Quite the opposite: The loss of bourgeois habits seriously impeded the progress of disadvantaged groups. That trend also accelerated the destructive consequences of the growing welfare state, which, by taking over financial support of families, reduced the need for two parents. A strong pro-marriage norm might have blunted this effect. Instead, the number of single parents grew astronomically, producing children more prone to academic failure, addiction, idleness, crime, and poverty.

I know that's a big pull quote, but honestly, I had a hard time not quoting the whole thing. Go read it now, it's one of the most spot on op-eds I've ever read.

34 I think I would vote for John Wayne Gacy if he were running against McCaskill. The first time I ever did anything in politics was in '06 when I campaigned for Talent, who McCaskill beat; and ever since then she has held her office by a mixture of backstabbing, faux-folksiness, and dumb luck. Irrational as it might be, I consider her a blot on my record and good name, and if this Austin Petersen burned down an orphanage on Christmas Eve, I would vote for him just to spite her.

74 I think there's a fair argument to be made that if you put the average modern man against the average medieval peasant in an IQ test, the modern guy would *probably* win out. But in my opinion, that's mostly the result of environmental factors--i.e. he was probably far better fed than his medieval counterpart, or rather had a higher average calorie intake. Agriculturalists living at or near subsistence level, as many did in the Middle Ages, are at risk for one or more famines, which, if those happen during childhood, can have a significant negative effect on brain development.

But that's an uncertain proposition at best. And Joe Modern would *definitely* lose out to a number of medievals who didn't have that problem--Thomas Aquinas, for one, or Charlemagne. And I think it's inarguable that everyone in the Middle Ages did more with the brainpower they had than most people do today.

101 we had a little black kitty volunteer into the house a few years back: borderline feral when he did, but now just part of the pride.

we named him "Mijo", since he was obviously a descendant of the LBK who was living in the yard when we moved in, who had, equally obviously, been abandoned and/or abused by a previous resident.

LBK finally moved back in in time for the feline equivalent of hospice care with us.

The neighbors had an indoor/ outdoor cat that was mostly outdoors, and lived with three dogs (pit bulls) and two little kids. I honestly thought about stealing him, that's how adorable. Plus, he came into my house every chance he could.

Fast forward a year. I ask the neighbors about the cat; one day he never came home. They thought they found him, but the person never got back to them on Facebook.

This was the most awesome cat ever (overly affectionate in fact) and I suspect he found a better situation, and re-homed himself.

204 So today, Rush was talking about Paul Anka.
Seems some group hired him to play a gig at Mar-A-Lago on December 5th. Paid him $75k in advance.
Then Charlottesville happens and all of a sudden, after 40 years in the public eye, Trump is a racist.
So, the group decides to move their party to another venue, on another date, and expected that Paul Anka would agree to the change.
Mr. Anka had a family thing on the new date and said Sorry No Can Do.
The group asked him to refund the money they paid him, and Mr. Anka said Sorry Not Sorry.
He's keeping the money.

Have to admit though that I *really* don't want it to rain here for a little while longer, mostly for selfish reasons since we have to have the windows open, but also because all the watersheds need a chance to drain.

333 Weird Dave: You have no idea how grateful I am that I completed all the courses for my major in history back before the Left took over the field. (No, I don't have a degree. History, yes. Science and math, no. I couldn't pass a course in either if you gave me a million bucks.) And I couldn't agree with you more about how western Europe became the dominant force in the world more. No, we are not smarter. But we do have two things going for us. 1) We place a premium on the possession of property and our legal system is property oriented. As Thomas Sowell has pointed out so many times, it is knowing that no one can take our property away from us that makes us confident enough to invest in big ideas and big projects. And 2) we do not suffer from the debilitating diseases that afflict the southern areas of the world. It's the classic North vs. South disparity; the closer you get to the equator you get, the less productive the population is. Malaria, Yellow Fever and whatever else flourishes in the warmer climates simply drains the energy needed to achieve more than a subsistence existence.

334 Tax on remittances would be fairly clean. Of course it will lead to evasion - cash shipments, plus a Mexican version of hawala (honor system of financial transfer using brokers). Always remember, kids: dynamic response, measure/counter-measure.

So, remittance tax, plus some kind of specific tariff surtax (assuming NAFTA is kaputgemacht, or altered to allow such).

I've never cared at all about "Mexico paying for it" (I'm happy for us to pay for our own essential national security systems - do we expect others to pay for our carrier battle groups?). It's kind of a stupid distraction from the main issue, but whatever. It won't change anything, and it can be amusing as it drives the right people kookoobananas.

FYI, those ships only dial-up CNN for what passes as "news" on deck.

Any other single dudes do this? I have a closet in my apartment full of clothes. We have a work polo and slacks combo we have to wear (except on Fridays when we have a 'white' polo and can wear 'Blue Jeans.') I find myself not even bothering to hang up the work clothes but just dig through the clean clothes basket and toss old stuff in the dirty clothes basket. Also, diseases aside, the living is somewhat easy; they don't need to get out and hustle to prepare, preserve food and build shelter for severe cold weather; food is relatively easy to come by year round, and you won't freeze to death in monsoons. They really don't build up much gumption or strong work ethic because there is no real need for any.

So today, Rush was talking about Paul Anka.

Seems some group hired him to play a gig at Mar-A-Lago on December 5th. Paid him $75k in advance.

Then Charlottesville happens and all of a sudden, after 40 years in the public eye, Trump is a racist.

So, the group decides to move their party to another venue, on
another date, and expected that Paul Anka would agree to the change.

Mr. Anka had a family thing on the new date and said Sorry No Can Do.

The group asked him to refund the money they paid him, and Mr. Anka said Sorry Not Sorry.

He's keeping the money.

389 ALH and Ashley:

In 1991, a community near me, Cerritos, was building their Center for the Performing Arts, and spending piles of cash to develop the thing.

Well, they wanted to open it up with a BIG splash. So they actually managed to book, for the very first act there...

Frank Sinatra. The city of Cerritos got him to sign a contract and everything.

So everyone at the city was mindbendingly excited... and then came the news, the Center couldn't be finished in time for Frank's performance dates, and it would take up to 6 months longer to finish the building and make it performance- and audience-ready.

So now the Cerritos people were scared shitless. They'd heard how difficult Frank could be, and figured if they asked him to push back his performance dates, he'd be super-pissed.

As it turns out... Sinatra was very understanding. His people simply asked, "well, when do you think he can perform?" They gave him a date they *knew* the construction crew etc could hit, and the show went on, on that later date. Sinatra also took the time during his performance to mention what a beautiful place he thought it was.

Anyway, wish I could have seen him then in Cerritos. All the shows were sold out in literally seconds.

390 Things I just learned this week aren't common knowledge:

1. Fire ants make floating colonies when it floods

448 370 @359 if you watch the path of Christianity, and by that, I mean protestant or Gospel belief in Christ, you can trace the prosperity following it. kinda cool.
------------------

Given that a prosperous society all but requires the understanding that you don't cut someone's head off just because they looked at you funny, and given that a good-sized chunk of the Holy Bible (both Old and New Testament) revolves around telling people not to cut someone's head off because they looked at you funny...

... it's understandable.

It's more than that. Christianity gave us (tho it got it from Judaism) monotheism, from which the concept of absolute, objective right and wrong comes. That one of the 3 pillars responsible for modern western civilization (The other two are science/reason - the universe operates according to certain fixed laws that we can understand, and rule of law - laws apply universally to every human, king and commoner alike. We got those from the Greeks and English respectively.) No other civilization in the history of the world besides Western European/ American has incorporated all 3. It's the reason we're so successful.

456 The notion that the universe follows fixed laws is important, and it was wise of the Christians to accept that.

The Muslims... sort of accepted that too. In places. Sporadically. Unfortunately there was always that temptation in Islam to promote God's Supreme Will over that.

So there were great Islamic scientists, but they tended to thrive very far from the centres of Islamic power. In places like Central Asia, and Umayyad Spain.

ALH and Ashley:

In 1991, a community near me, Cerritos, was building their Center
for the Performing Arts, and spending piles of cash to develop the
thing.

Well, they wanted to open it up with a BIG splash. So they actually managed to book, for the very first act there...

Frank Sinatra. The city of Cerritos got him to sign a contract and everything.

So everyone at the city was mindbendingly excited... and then came
the news, the Center couldn't be finished in time for Frank's
performance dates, and it would take up to 6 months longer to finish the
building and make it performance- and audience-ready.

So now the Cerritos people were scared shitless. They'd heard how
difficult Frank could be, and figured if they asked him to push back his
performance dates, he'd be super-pissed.

As it turns out... Sinatra was very understanding. His people simply
asked, "well, when do you think he can perform?" They gave him a date
they *knew* the construction crew etc could hit, and the show went on,
on that later date. Sinatra also took the time during his performance to
mention what a beautiful place he thought it was.

Anyway, wish I could have seen him then in Cerritos. All the shows were sold out in literally seconds.

Posted by: qdpsteve at September 01, 2017 12:05 AM (eMKNe)

It was probably the 6 month delay that kept Sinatra under contract.
Plus, the Anka gig was in December, I'm betting he has a high demand level around the holidays.

503 Austin Petersen wants to gut the military, impose a harshly recessive income tax, and "reform" corporate tax by giving no consideration to the costs of starting up a business versus the costs of maintaining a large, dominant one (since he declares he wants to treat them EXACTLY the same).
Then on top of that he wants to legalize every drug possible, overtly give power to make laws (criminal punishments) to an out control judiciary, paralyze foreign policy by punting it to Congress even more than Obama did, and not even hint at border control and immigration policy among his priorities.

And that is better than Claire McCaskill because . . . he says he wants to do it so he can reduce regulations on business and balance the federal budget?
As with most "libertarians" masquerading as Republicans to get elected, there has got to be a better option.

You do know how Oklahoma was founded, don't you? As the settlers were coming across the prairie, when they got to Oklahoma there was a sign that said "Texas, turn left". Those that could read....turned.

given that the 700 platform has been adopted as a issue sniper rifle more than once, and they have been building them for decades, it the price point is competitive, and it has the features your friend wants, go for it. there ought to be some reviews on line, assuming it's been out a bit, so, if no one says "It's Shit!" it's likely a decent gun.

the 30.06 has killed more than its fair share of creatures over the years, and comes in a variety of flavors, so it oughta git'er done, no matter what the intended use.

N's live in their heads. They are so busy thinking that they can be klutzes.

Well, as I was going on about in one of those threads the other night or two, I did remember I was INTP (well, thought so) from all sorts of tests we took in college. Damned psych elective, and at the time, I hated the social "sciences" crap. I had to take one of them.

Anyway, I wanted to be Mr. Spock at the time (majoring in Physics -- and a damn lot of good I did with it....:sigh.

It surprised me that I scored off the charts on "empathy". I remember they said I "pegged the meter" on that metric, and to get a proper score would require scaled up tests.

I thought that was B.S., but the older and wise psych docs schooled me on it, describing me to a T, showing.

And reading that information on the INTP category had the same effect. Ringing bells about my own behavior and how others see and relate to me.

I'm not as dismissive of all that now, and it's sort of fun to read up on it.

Hurts like a sonofabitch just to stub them.

I broke all 10 plus some bones in my left foot.

Mama had just waxed this little 3 foot patch of floor we had in front of the front door; the rest of the floor was carpeted, but they had to leave the floor bare right there so the door would open. The stairs ended at that bare patch.

I didn't realize she had waxed it and came running down the stairs to answer the phone before one of my brothers did and hit that wet floor at full speed. Slid right into the door. It happened so fast my feet stayed flat, too. Everyone heard it ; my youngest brother thought it was firecrackers.

My mama, who was a nurse practitioner and tough as nails, was tired and didn't want to go back to the hospital after working a double shift and then cleaning the house, decided I should be able to wait and see how it felt in a few days!

It was months before I could even wear shoes.

The cross forever shows that the attitude of Jesus toward sinners was neither condemnation nor condonation, but rather eternal and loving salvation....

But.. he didn't. I knew NOTHING about things back then, but I did know that he sounded nothing like he did on the albums.

Which could mean that they've been processing him for years.

Or that after he left Purple in the 70's, his voice was trashed.

Oh yes, indeed. Back in college, some girl I was seeing to me, "How can you just sit there and stare at the wall?!"

"I'm thinking". She could not (and a lot of people) grasp how anyone could do that. IIRC, I was going over some deep part of the Maxwellian dance of EM Theory for some course, trying to something subtle to "click" in head.

My balance and all that has always been very good.

But what's messing me up is this damnable RA Tammy and I were discussing.

Because of the damage and the pain, I can't react lightning fast to keep my balance. I'm also getting the "dropsies". This is due to joint damage in the hands.

Holding on to things with normal pressure hurts, and so my brain tends to overestimate how tightly I'm holding something based on the pressure-pain threshold.

I can indeed get lost in thought, but this RA is a physical reason for stuff like this.

I would not call Argentina a "hardcore communist country" by any stretch of the imagination. It's a leftish corruptocracy, rather like Chicago, but without the racial minorities.

If Francis had actually lived under totalitarian rule, as JPII and Benedict both did, he would likely have a much, much more skeptical view of the State.

Instead of just feeling good with a job well done, drinking a beer, and going on with his life, the idiot decides to recreate the scene so it can be captured on film and the whole world can see proof of his awesomeness, and maybe get that anchor position. Tool.

Posted by: Cat Ass Trophy at August 31, 2017 11:00 PM (dnWSK)

Judging from the sat photo, the truck guy was never in any real danger. He was a dummy who apparently drove over a curb and into a swale in an effort to get from one parking lot to another. So his truck floated downstream a few yards until it took on enough water to sink. Guy was in waist-deep water and could have waded to shore.

I don't think you can call it a "rescue" unless the person being "rescued" is in, you know, actual peril. Not inconvenience, not discomfort, but peril.

But she is herself very, very strong. Like, her appendix burst at the supper table one night, and all she did was make a kind of weird face go "OH, umph". Daddy just scooped her up and ran her to the hospital.

Two ectopic pregnancies, just sat there sweating til one of my aunties made her get in the car. Blew her fallopian tube each time, barely whimpered.

And she had scleral buckles done on both eyes under local anesthesia.

So,no... she never felt too bad!

Austin Petersen wants to gut the military, impose a harshly recessive
income tax, and "reform" corporate tax by giving no consideration to the
costs of starting up a business versus the costs of maintaining a
large, dominant one (since he declares he wants to treat them EXACTLY
the same).

Then on top of that he wants to legalize every drug possible,
overtly give power to make laws (criminal punishments) to an out control
judiciary, paralyze foreign policy by punting it to Congress even more
than Obama did, and not even hint at border control and immigration
policy among his priorities.

And that is better than Claire McCaskill because . . . he says he
wants to do it so he can reduce regulations on business and balance the
federal budget?

As with most "libertarians" masquerading as Republicans to get elected, there has got to be a better option.

So, which campaign do you work for? Quite a dog's breakfast of scurrilous bullshit you have there. Let's take the biggest one first: Taxes. AP favors a flat tax, across the board, and I say amen. Govt's legitimate role has a cost, and a flat tax is the fairest way to meet them. If you make a dollar, you pay $.15. If you make a billion dollars, you pay 150 mil. Absolutely and completely fair. Calling it regressive (which was the word I think you wanted) is just a flat out lie. Regressive would be charging the poor more than the rich. Everyone paying the same isn't even close to that.

"Gut the military". If that's what you get from calling for no more nation building, then again, it's a lie. Now, I don't agree with libertarians on some stuff, and foreign policy is one of them. In fact, in my perfect world, we'd be willing to pay the monetary and human costs to maintain Pax Americana, and we'd actually DO it in the same way Rome maintained Pax Romana. But we're not willing to do that, so "No nation building" seems to me to be a good fall back from our current policy of wasting American dollars and lives for nothing.

Drugs? The war on drugs has been a complete and utter disaster, ruining lives and more importantly stealing liberty right and left. I don't like drugs and what they do, but I like the war on drugs less.

I'm not going to fisk your post point by point anymore, anyone who is interested can go to AP's page and decide for themselves, but I will say this: No politician is ever going to do exactly what I think should be done(read: The right thing. ) 100% of the time. Absent that, I want to know what their instincts are going to be in any given situation. They will all tell you anything to get elected, but then do differently when the next election is 6 years off (See, McCain, John; Obamacare, border wall, his whole career). I want someone whose instincts, when he is not vying for my vote, are towards less government and more individual liberty. I have no doubt that AP's run in exactly that course.

600 SJW FAIL! ... My grand-daughter woke me up an hour ago - she and her boyfriend want to borrow my car tomorrow. No big thing EXCEPT I talked with her Tues. A. M. and reminded her to fill up their cars while there was still gas available in San Antonio. They didn't and now they can't find gas. Why not? Boyfriend thought the 'Old fart' (his words) is an over-reacting 'fool prepper'.

I asked how they were doing for food - she admitted they were running 'very low'. I gave her about 5 lbs. of granola that I had made up last week in anticipation of Harvey.

She was a very level-headed intelligent young lady before going off to University of Texas - Austin 4 yrs. ago. That's where she met idiot boyfriend about a year ago. She is now a vegan SJW under the sway of this jerk.I try hard to limit my overt dislike of this guy - BUT he makes no effort to get along with me. Consequently I find excuses not to attend when there is a family get-together where he is.

First met this guy last Christmas when they arrived with their 6 month old Rottweiler - named 'Bowie'. The conversation went like this.

Me - "Bowie! Alright! Call him Colonel for short!"

Him: 'Huh?"

Me: "Colonel Bowie! The Alamo!"

Him: "Huh?"

Me: "We're in San Antonio TEXAS, son, you named the dog after Jim Bowie right?"

Him: "Uh, no. The musician."

Me: "Huh?"

Him: "The musician."

Pause while I sort this out. Finally I figure who he's talking about.

Me: "The rock-star guy?"

Him: "Yeah!"

Me: 'What part of California you from, boy?"

Him:. "Uh, San Francisco. How'd you know?"

Me: "Wild ass guess, boy. Wild. Ass. Guess."

Later my grand-daughter told me I'd been rude to call him "boy".

601 Do y'all have outdoor pets?

Our foxes never caused any trouble at all, but we didn't have cats at the time, and we're on 12 acres, so they had plenty of space.

We haven't had any lately. (foxes)

Posted by: Tammy al-Thor at September 01, 2017 02:25 AM (ihmYw)

No pets. There are things that constantly come into the yard. The constant is the chipmonks. They have been around forever, and always come up on the back porch. Then there is a pain in the ass ground hog. There were a few rabbits, and it took probably 20 years before I ever saw a rabbit here, and now with the fox here who knows if I'll see the rabbits. There are 2 cats that come in separately and hang out. Occasionally a wild turkey, and even a stupid big turtle. If it floods the geese sail up to the yard like frigging Vikings. Deer, can't forget the deer, they come by every so often. Raccoons, frigging possum, squirrels, birds....

Pets no, but a frigging zoo? Probably. I'm waiting for a "the enemy is moving against each other" public event. Then I'm gonna wig.

612 So, which campaign do you work for? Quite a dog's breakfast of scurrilous bullshit you have there. Let's take the biggest one first: Taxes. AP favors a flat tax, across the board, and I say amen. Govt's legitimate role has a cost, and a flat tax is the fairest way to meet them. If you make a dollar, you pay $.15. If you make a billion dollars, you pay 150 mil. Absolutely and completely fair. Calling it regressive (which was the word I think you wanted) is just a flat out lie. Regressive would be charging the poor more than the rich. Everyone paying the same isn't even close to that.

Where was the House election a few years back where some commenter appeared doing the exact same thing? Using just regular names and shilling hard against/for a certain candidate. And then in a later thread with a new name said they worked for the campaign. But posts before and after that never disclosed it, and they were always drive bys.

She has already grown tired of his nasty comments about my military service and called him on it when I was around. Remaining a loving and helpful Grandpa seems - at this time - to be the best course. The granola surprised her. The fact I'd made it in advance made a visible impact. Knowing that I practice what I preach is a stark contrast to his whiney bitchiness.

Yeah. If HC Sandy taught any lesson to the 200,000 homeowners flooded, it's that in the end don't expect the government to fix your home and pick up the tab. Get busy*. Despite Governor Christie pandering to Obama the state - a definite blue state - got the shaft in the end.

Will the 100,000 homeowners flooded in Texas receive better treatment under Trump? Just what position will Ted Cruz now take that it's the residents of his own state that are effected?

It's going to be interesting times. I hate living in interesting times.

* Most insurance policies require people to 'mitigate' damage. In other words don't let stuff get worse. If you have a hole in the roof, buy a tarp, or else they may not pay for further rain damage. It's important to remember.

654 "So, which campaign do you work for?"

None. I don't need to work for a campaign to oppose someone.
But since you were making a paid endorsement, I understand why you would be upset that I disagree with it.

"Govt's legitimate role has a cost, and a flat tax is the fairest way to meet them."

Or not. The more risk, the higher the percentage you pay to cover your property. That is fair. The rich have way more skin in the game than the poor.
And yes, I meant "regressive". Typos happen.

"If that's what you get from calling for no more nation building, then again, it's a lie."

That's what I get from that weasel wording, which is what "libertarians" love to wallow in.

"I don't like drugs and what they do, but I like the war on drugs less."

Which means dumping thousands of violent drug offenders back on the streets? Sometimes the cure for the cure is worse than the cure for the disease.

"No politician is ever going to do exactly what I think should be done(read: The right thing. ) 100% of the time. Absent that, I want to know what their instincts are going to be in any given situation. They will all tell you anything to get elected, but then do differently when the next election is 6 years off (See, McCain, John; Obamacare, border wall, his whole career)."

So do I.
Which is why I why I reject Petersen for the same old fatally flawed "libertarian" promises followed by suspicious support for the opposition (See, Paul, Rand; praise for OWS, sentencing reform, general grandstanding).
