No, Comey Did Not Just Ask For More Resources for Russia Probe
FBI Deputy Director and I guess acting director at the moment Anthony McCabe confirms he is "not aware" of Comey having requested more money to investigate Russia scandal crap, and yesterday, a DOJ spokeswoman also said the DOJ had not been so requested.
And yet this was a huge claim that went 'round the Blue Checkmark Mafia Media yesterday and this morning, too. Why would I believe you, Journ0listers, when you are either chronically uninformed or remorselessly dishonest? Incidentally, Chuck Grassley has hinted that Trump is actually telling the truth when he says, as far as anyone knows, Trump is not in fact a target of any FBI investigation.Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley hinted that Comey made the revelation about Trump during a closed, classified session following a committee hearing last week. California Sen. Dianne Feinstein also attended. "Shortly after Director Comey briefed us, I tweeted that he should be transparent. I said he should tell the public what he told Senator Feinstein and me about whether the FBI is or is not investigating the President," Grassley said.Though that still allows some people in Trump's orbit to be targets, naturally.

I've come to the conclusion that the mentally ill (aka "the media" and "decmocrats") are incapable of learning.
I've noticed a pattern among some younger leftists -- not all, but too many -- in which they don't even seem capable of hearing themselves.
You can pin them down on something truly insane or wrong that they have said, and they don't have even a moment of self reflection or "yeah that's true." Not a microsecond of it. They have no capacity to self doubt, they've never learned to question themselves or wonder if they are wrong.
If confronted with how they are wrong, they either freak out and throw a fit (see twitter every few days for a high profile example) or just ignore that and move on with the next talking point as if nothing was said.

The bigger problem is that the GOP apparatus and establishment is not rallying around the President and pushing back on the Russia nonsense.
They want this to remain an issue and problem for the President just as much as the Democrats because they want Trump hobbled and unable to work his agenda and achieve anything of substance.

Look, the big story here is that the govt under Obama was acting as oppo research for the Hillary campaign by using the FBI and other law enforcement (and presumably spy agencies like the nsa) to spy on the political opponent of the president in office and presumably handing any gathered information on to the Hillary campaign.

The other thing I heard yesterday was a "source" inside the "administration" (would a janitor at the Federal Office building in Chevy Chase qualify?) stated that the reason why the Comey firing happened yesterday was because the FBI was going to "accelerate" its investigation of the Trump Russia "thing" ( whatever it is). I thought to myself, having a close family member who is a former ADA, several friends who worked in law enforcement (including one NYCPD Detective and one who was in the FBI), that the word "accelerate" in this context made no sense because no one in law enforcement would say that. The idiot MSM person who wrote the story made sure they used the term several times for emphasis. Investigations do not "accelerate". They widen, perhaps, they end sometimes or they are perhaps leading to an imminent indictment, but "accelerate?" Nope. uh uh. It was nonsense, made up from whole cloth by some democrat flunkie in government who is leaking like a sieve (Clapper?) and another example of the MSM printing base speculation, opinion and innuendo, pumped to them by Dem operatives, as "fact" and running with it.

I have no doubt it's what reporters do routinely. I suspect they're mostly frustrated novelists who know the story they want to tell, but they need a source and/or a quote to say the words they want to hear. So they go opinion shopping.
Of course, if the "source" is anonymous, it's only a short step to just making up the quote, and saving yourself some trouble.
Decide what you believe the conclusion is and work backwards to try to support that conclusion. You frequently end up with illogical , asinine reasoning.

You can pin them down on something truly insane or wrong that they have said, and they don't have even a moment of self reflection or "yeah that's true." Not a microsecond of it. They have no capacity to self doubt, they've never learned to question themselves or wonder if they are wrong.
If confronted with how they are wrong, they either freak out and throw a fit (see twitter every few days for a high profile example) or just ignore that and move on with the next talking point as if nothing was said.

There was not a mass defection of Republicans away from Trump like many feared.
Remember, despite the Electoral College looking lopsided, 1% was what separated President Trump from President Hillary.

How Trump manages his administration is not going to change.
But, if he gets things done, the fact that the internal workings are a shitshow won't matter. The chaos will draw more fire if things also aren't getting done, as it will be portrayed as the cause.

Black vote was down from 2012.
That makes sense. The top of the ticket was an old white woman who had previously run against Obama and whose husband had been accused of being racist by the 2008 Obama campaign.
Black vote was historically high in 2008 and 2012. 2016 it was back to normal turn out rates.
I think that explains the turn out differences for D's between '12 and '16.

A caller to Limbaugh's show raises the possibility that Comey was out of bounds by revealing to Trump info about the investigation. But, of course, Comey reports to Trump. He can't be out of bounds when he reports to the POTUS. But, Limbaugh responded with this:

What if it's true? What if there is an investigation by the FBI into Trump, and Comey was treating Trump like a perp and lying to him abount the investiagtion? It's probably occurring to him now, but no one anticipated that the MSM would come up with some bizarre Russia thing even 6-7 months ago. I mean, it was an off handed ("Trump likes tyrants!") Hillary campaign talking point, but I wouldn't have anticipated it would be the big push for months from the MSM and Dems.

I agree, that would have been the better move. Just get rid of absolutely everyone in sight all at once and get it out of the way.
I don't think he can just clean the slate like that, there have to be replacements and I think there are protocols to follow for each firing. Even the Clintons took years to clean house. I mean he's got an awful lot on his plate, and most of it is taken up with executive orders and getting stuff through congress. While I'd love to see him line everyone up and machine gun them down (metaphorically) with pink slips, its going to take time. In a year, we'll see if he's following through or not.
In this case, President Trump picked a pretty ideal time to fire Comey: just when everyone was yelling about how much he sucked and several news stories popped up about "inconsistencies" and problems with his testimony.

That doesn't matter. The argument was that someone can simply lie to the president if they choose to, and so we can't trust Comey's word on this.
Not only does he have no reason to do so, he knows it would be a felony, and it makes no sense. After a certain point, you gotta stop painting as you get close to that corner.

Everyone in the executive branch serves at the will of the president, and there's no reason the entire executive branch couldn't be fired day one without replacements ready. (well, maybe the judiciary would grant a TRO claiming due process was violated for the poor bureaucrats or something, but there's no LEGAL reason why a president couldnt do that.)

There is a mechanism for situations where it is belived that the president has been involved in illegality: the special prosecutor. But, a special prosecutor is apponted either by the AG (acting under authority of POTUS), or through an act of Congress.
The Director of the FBI has no constitutional authority to go outside of his chain of command and just start lying to the president about what his agency is doing. It doesn't matter what he claims he suspects. He simply doesn't have that authority.
