Longest blade I've made on current equipment is around 6 and 3/16" long, and I've never tried forgewelding, so damascus steel isn't on the menu.
Right now I'm working on my first dagger, which if all goes according to plan will be my first double edged blade, my first crossguard, and my first through, peened tang. Everything prior to this has had a simple stick tang stuck into a wood or antler handle. I have done a poured pewter bolster, but that is a far cry from silver mounts.
I really don't think you want me making your bridal kindjal!

I actually knew someone who had that happen to her house. Roofing company started ripping shingles off when she was on an overnight trip. Came home to see that half the roof was bare, and a bunch of guys tossing shit into a dumpster. She just turned around and got a hotel room for a couple of days to let them finish.
Roofers tried half-heartedly to get her to pay for their mistake, but she told them to fuck off and double-check the address next time.

There is 2" of iso board insulation above that and then asphalt architectural shingles fastened with long..3"...roofing nails. Unfortunately, no sheathing was installed under the shingles so the surface is soft and fragile to impacts. This jackleg arrangement has lasted 15 years, so the shingles are getting to brittle to do any repair work.
I want to convert this to a metal roof. I'm afraid that removing the shingles will damage the iso sheets adding about 3000 dollars in materials, but so be it. I am getting wildly conflicting advice on ventilation requirements for both the T&G decking and also the metal roofing.
There it is, difficult to describe without a pen and paper or a photo or two.

That's real chutzpah. I would imagine that the owner had a good case for damages against the company. After all, they trespassed on his property and modified it. They really should have to pay for that. If I came home and found that someone had redone my kitchen it wouldn't matter if it was a nicer kitchen. They were illegally in my house and did stuff that they weren't allowed to do. They should have to pay me for that violation. Or they should be arrested for trespassing/breaking and entering and held criminally liable.
I don't like the idea that a company can come and tear up your lawn or remove your roof and then just leave without having to pay for that very serious offense. What if they found out halfway through the job they were at the wrong place and just left? They are liable for their illegal actions - whether the person violated was ultimately benefited or not.

Tiptoes, use some arcing action, but try to piss chest high or so. Then leave big steaming dumps every place this dog can see them. They need to be big, so lots of bran muffins and carbs. Maybe sprinkle some hot sauce on top too so the dog can't even eat it.
A week or so of this and that dog will respect your ass.

Dog spray. It's just pepper spray. I carry one in my pocket when doing yard work. Dogs can cover an amazing amount of territory quickly, from seven blocks away, etc. It is a deterrent, and will give time to get away. Have to judge each situation and dog differently. A LOUD firm "NO!" and "Go Home!" will give an indication. The spray is a sort of next to last resort. I love dogs, better than most, er, some people, but an aggressive dog isn't going to get in my way, not on my property at least. When dogs pack together they are even more problematic.

Don't do a damn thing about that roof, *until* you've had it looked over by a Registered Professional Engineer.
The spacing on those rafters doesn't seem right for the load that's already atop.
And you WILL WANT to strip off the existing composition roof system, before adding the load of any other system.
Also. ANY roof system you apply over an existing course of shingles.... will NOT be covered by the manufacturer's warranty.
Professional Engineer, first.
Then, you'll know what your system options will be.
AFTER that, you can begin to search for which brand of product seems to be most to your liking, and THEN, find a Factory Certified Contractor who has a contractual affiliation as such, with the manufacturer.

My late husband's father was in the Navy and spent time in the Philipines. He said they told him to crouch down a little when the dog is threantening. They told him the dog can't judge how big you are when you stand. When you crouch, the dog can see that you are bigger and won't attack. I've never personally tested this.

Cool. If the structure is vintage, it's likely "close enough". If necessary, there are ways to add strength without adding ugly.
If you can send a few pics along, I'll have a good idea of what the issues are, and we can go from there.
I've spent enough years in the industry to have an opinion, but better than an opinion are conclusions arrived at by measurement, material performance specifications, local remodeling codes and your preferences as to material, style and color.
One thing is not negotiable in my opinioning though. The current roof system needs to be stripped down to the bare deck.
Not only for warranty conditioning.
But the modern materials on the market today, outperform any 15 year old system in ways that would take me till morning to type.
You can get a LOT more energy efficiency from a modern system, be it composition, metal, compressed TPO, etc.
Oh, and then comes the cost/value equations, which are an entirely different discussion.
But vital, of course.

If you were calm and offered your elbow, he just wanted to "make a point".
You stood your ground and "took the foul". If the dog kept shaking at your elbow, it would have been time to grab the neck.
If you are bigger, like me, you can flip the dog and hold it there. If you are smaller? You must Put All of Your Weight on that dog's neck.
If it dies, there's nothing to be ashamed about for an irresponsible owner's pet being killed in self-defense.

Put myself through college working on a roofing crew (sans latino wetbacks). I bet there are youtube videos on roofing. Unless you are fairly young, unafraid of heights, and understand the hard work of tearing off old shingles, and understand walk boards.... hire a hispanice crew to reroof..... they dominate the roofing trade now and they are skilled and cheap.But ask for greencards.

He's a great brother. He moved down here from Boston, threatened and cajoled the property manager and cleaning crew to get this apartment ready for me, and single-handedly moved me into this apartment when the house was sold at auction. I was kind of in shock and denial.
He also does my cut-and-color. A project manager with professional Aveda training. Rare combo. A great roomie, we hardly ever see each other and have no conflicts.

I have a housekeeper and help with the yard but I would never want someone in my house all the time. It would make me uncomfortable.

Winblows 10 here is driving me crazy (I'm playing with the Bash on Windows feature, and playing around with SSH). There is one desktop icon that it moves upon restart. All the others stay in place, but the damn system moves this particular one every time.

This is good advice.
And it leads me to mention this.
If you get "good enough" at your indoor range, (most only offer 25 yards, max), then next, find a good 100 yard rifle range, and over the sandbags, try your skills on a B-27 target at 50 yards.
When your groups stay inside of the 9 ring there, go to 75 yards.
Then, to 100 yards.
Do that. DO THAT.
And then start on bowling pins at 100 yards.
If you don't think this will greatly enhance your accuracy AND speed at 7, 10 and 15 yards, well...
I can provide the coaching. But I can't provide the understanding, nor the developed skill.

Well.... I just realized I hadn't taken my blood pressure crap this morning. What alerted me was I take a beta blocker in addition to the other stuff, and when that stuff wears off good, I start to feel jumpy, like I've just had a startle. I checked my BP, and the heart rate was up to 80/min and the BP was 150/90, and I realized I'd forgotten to take it.

That's not true. O'Reilly used to be a hell of a fighter for some traditional American values. He fought well for some time ... then he just sort of collapsed. But, for a good while O'Reilly was one of the major defenders of common sense Americanism out there.

what some students want me to do is take their F-grade work and change it to an A because I know grammar, punctuation and composition. They don't want to know what I know. They'll just wait. it's as if they're filling up with gas or something.
the last one of the day was all about the movie Crash, racism, discrimination, prejudice. She mentioned giving head and used 'hardcore' as an adjective, in the paper, and when I said her instructor might object, she said that her instructor says the same thing in class.
this work somedays drives me to despair.

My sister lives on Golden Oaks Dr. Golden oaks only grow in California, where she does not live.
My mom lives on Tall Oaks. Every tree on her street is a spruce or a pine. No oaks whatsoever, tall or otherwise.
My street name has "Heights" in it. The whole area is flat as a pancake. It's no higher than anywhere else around here.

it was back in the early 80's, when i was serving in a Mech Infantry unit here in Lost Angels, part of the 40th ID (M).
since Planet Irwin had been taken away from the CA ARNG, and Club Bob wasn't really ready to host the whole division, we spent many a weekend in Jarhead Heaven.
since i went advance party, for the pay and the lulz, we had lots of free time to do things that adult supervision might have (would have) prevented.
like going into town for beer, etc, after our day was done.
we hopped in the trusty M-151 and drove back north to the first signs of civilization, found a liquor store and went in to make our purchases.
the person at the counter says "i thought you weren't supposed to come into town in those uniforms?" (BDUs)
i said, "excuse me ma'm?" it was rail thin, androgynous and had a perm... (early 80's, remember?)
"i'm a guy" it screeched, to which i replied "i'm sorry, but you did call us Jarheads..."
we left with our Class VI resupply, and, getting back on the I-5, south, saw a hitchhiker. obviously a Marine, i pulled over, and he jumped in.
i asked him where he was going, and he said he had to sneak back on base, as he didn't have a pass. i told him not to worry, put on this filed jacket, put this cap on, and just keep your mouth shut if they actually stopped us at the gate.
we were off Basilone Road that month, so Las Pulgas wasn't a detour...
coming up to the gate, we killed the headlights early, as we were supposed to, and the gate guards, recognizing a military vehicle, passed us on through with nary a hiccup. Homeboy thought that was awesome, and was even happier when we dropped him off at his front door.
that was one Marine who never had a bad thing to say about Doggies after that.
i wonder why i never made E-5?
