The Artist's Garden at Vétheuil
Claude Monet

This is a nice Monet. Not my favorite, but it is undeniably a beautiful piece. I like Monet for his attempts to inject some relatively sophisticated brushwork into his painting. It's that hint of seriousness that pleases me, although Gauguin and sometimes van Gogh were primitive in comparison, and I love some of their stuff too.

I'll shut up now.

8 I was at this bar the other night and this bartendress looked EXACTLY like Ivanka Trump.

I mean exactly.

I said, you probably get "Ivanka Trump" a lot, right? She said, yeah. I said I heard that some people cut their hair and stuff NOT to look like Ivanka. She says, why would they do that? First, I'm Canadian, I don't care. And second, she's a beautiful woman, so why wouldn't I want to be compared to her?

So, first of all, not everyone in the world is insane.

Second, NO, I did not cook pancakes, that is not on my radar.

52 Lovely!
One great thing about going to France and exploring some of the places where impressionist paintings were done was to see that the bright sun and colors are fairly true to their surroundings. Arles was gloriously bright and colorful, quite a starting point/inspiration for someone like Van Gogh.

75 I just saw the link below about the alphabet networks not covering the rape at Rockville High School. This happened in the DC suburbs. What happens in the DC suburbs makes the national news. If this had happened in Missouri or Iowa or Idaho it might not come to the attention of the networks. But there is no way the networks are not aware of this. It happened in their backyard. Not covering it is a deliberate attempt to ignore it because it doesn't fit their narrative.

Shameful.

96 @75 not only does it not fit the narrative, it would lend credence to Trump. Trump can NOT be right. Ever. So they cannot report it.

Interesting here is that the head of the school board is puzzled as to why people are blaming him. Why is this on us, he says? His weasel words are well ICE caught the one kid at the border in August, they are not doing their job.

Local radio points out though that it is a virtual certainty that this guy is not in favor of ICE doing its job at the border, certainly is not in favor of The Wall, and the like.

Plus, Montgomery County is the bluest of blue areas. These people are very, very liberal. He was voted in to have those policies. And now, suddenly, the people are mad at him. I am pretty sure that not everyone in Rockville who is upset that a 14 year old girl got raped by 2 illegal aliens in the school is a Trump voter.

So, I think he kind of has a point. Why are these folks mad at me for having an 18 year old illegal alien who does not speak English in school as a Freshman? This is the stuff they want!

103 Monet's paintings of his gardens always catch my eye. As much as I like the careful detail in the works from earlier this week, Monet's use of color and its placement within the painting is enchanting. The brush strokes are loose and not hard edged, even the house roof line is gentle, giving the 'impression' of early summer bounty. It isn't the individual plants that matter but their overall massed effect.

What makes this painting so appealing to me is the way he used blue to tie the elements in the scene together. The deep azure sky (a very appealing shade) is reflected in the splashes of other blue shades in the blossoms, on the ground, the ceramic planters, subtle use on the house, even in the clothing of the otherwise indistinct people. It all derives from that gorgeous, rich sky. Although they are seldom mixed here, the blue combined with the other bright color, deep yellow, together suggest the green that must be present to some degree.

The whole painting speaks of the gentle warmth of summer that can produce such a garden. Thanks, CBD. We got below freezing last night and I have a lousy head cold so this image is especially pleasant.

In keeping with art thread tradition, I will point out there are so many places for the sniper to hide.

It all comes back to the people, though.

People elect their representatives in government who nominate and confirm these judges.

We can go on all day about how the government does too much, or the government is getting worse at doing everything it touches, or that government seems less and less concerned with constraints on its own power with every passing moment, but that's the fault of the American people sending men and women to their state houses, governor's mansions, and national capitol who don't care about it.

It feels good to blame the people of Maryland for this mess, because it ultimately is their fault.

Complain to the school superintendent and school board, go to the media and challenge the directive from Dept. of Ed that they must take all 'unaccompanied minors' even when they're clearly not minors, find a way to segregate these students. etc.. Because he would know that it is his job to protect the students at his school, not just shrug follow whatever directives and say, "What are ya gonna do? 197 Why are bass players the butt of so many musician jokes?

Posted by: Duncanthrax

Comically large genitals, of course. Little worn down by overuse.

In your first garage band, the rhythm guitar player is the smart guy. He has to know chords. Probably takes lessons. Lead player can pick out one note at a time, but (1)has to have enough money to buy an amp that will feed back and (2)it has to sound something like the record, eventually.

Bass player only has to play one note at a time, for 100 years there were only four strings to choose from, and in a pinch he can fake it with a folksy oompah line that just has to be in the right key. And that reputation stays with you as you work solos written by Buell Niedlinger.

You can air-practice on a long shovel handle. Until you get up the neck, which makes the surveyor look at you funny.

Both of them worked on the house and gardens for decades. Then when he had money he bought it. He regarded the gardens as his best work really. He married this lady when their kids were getting marriageable ages and they were afraid their un-wedded status would hurt the kids. Go see it in person if you ever have the chance. They are livid with the EPA"s actions, which despite Trump's order to remove the EPA's authority to regulate every mudpuddle, is going forward this week with Marines blowing up the dams.

Doing so released tons of silt built up in the ponds which washed downstream and killed frogs, newts, and other assorted protected critters.

The CNN story is full of the following words people use when they have rock solid evidence:

possibly

may show
suggests
indicates

This is still the same story it's just being written in a different way to appear fresh now that Nunes has proof that Trump was wiretapped. They are trying to use it for cover and it ain't gonna work.

Unfortunately comey lead them to believe he had pushed the investigation into high gear the other day during his testimony.

346 Kate Hopkins piece is spot on, but sad.

Not patting myself on the back, but I've been saying the same thing for YEARS--since the week after 9/11 in fact.
Candle light vigils, making hearts of of hands, babbling multicultural nonsense---these are the gestures of LOSERS, the useless exercises of SURRENDER.

Hopkins concludes that liberals don't want to face the truth about Jihad because it would then lead them to conclude that their liberal-left worldview is bullshit. True.
But I think it's deeper that. By denying reality, they never have to face what the their true response should be--which would be banning, deporting, imprisoning and in some cases, outright executing.....

376 Love that shade of blue of the sky.

Question, perhaps dumb, but I am, after all, a moron.

Rich Lowery in a column this week said it was basically a fact that the Russians would have preferred Hilary! to have been elected.

I don't get it. Hilary sold them uranium. They know she is crooked and can be bribed. I have never heard of her as being a particularly tough negotiator. Socialist in all but name. She could be expected to continue Obama's foreign policy of appeasement and leading from behind. She gave Russia the reset button even if she was too dumb to get it right. Much more "known" quantity as per her track record as SoS and uranium deal.

OTOH, other than Trump's tweets about having some respect for Putin, what is there for Russia to love? As compared to Hilary!, seemingly much tougher negotiator. Not a guy who I have heard gives up much ground (I've read three of his books and several about him from people who didn't care for him), even when pushed. Pretty tireless and relentless. Hates socialism and communism. Much more active defender of America and our value system. A bit of a wild card.

What am I missing? Why would Russia want to deal with Trump rather than her?

447 Speaking of Renoir, he and Monet were actually pretty good friends - it's interesting to see when they both did paintings of the same subject, how their techniques differ.

As I'm sure TJM knows, Renoir had a very talented bloodline, as his son Jean is one of the most renowned directors in French cinematic history.

Jean's nephew Claude (who very well may have been named after Monet) was a bit less renowned, but he was a cinematographer who most famously worked on a few Bond films - The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker.

It is unimportant to them why Trump won. What is important is finding a way to destroy PDT. The Time article and the WSJ editorial yesterday are the latest probe for a weapon to destroy PDT.

493 I think the Queen is a good Queen who loves England and loves her faith. I also think she is about two hundred years old and frail. She has handed off most of her duties to others. She has no Parliamentary powers, and only has minimal input into the actual running of the country. She did good work during the War, and now she's mostly waiting to go home.
Posted by: grammie winger at March 23, 2017 10:51 AM (lwiT4)

Actually, I just saw a photo last week of Elizabeth out horseback riding to celebrate her 93rd? birthday. She's not that frail, although she did have a serious problem with pneumonia or some upper respiratory illness this fall that required substitutes to fill in for her.

I think, Grammie, she provides "advice" to the PM, but rarely speaks to the public about events. The Monarchy in GB is almost all symbolic at this point in time, as she has zero powers to pass any kind of legislation, dictates, etc.

She posted a message of sympathy at 1pm GB time today and thanked the Metropolitan Police for their work in protecting the British people. She also apologized to the Scotland Yard for the cancellation of her presence yesterday at the grand opening of their new facility, which was necessary due to the attack. She was going to be there to cut the ribbon or something.

Under TFG the state department has issued some very restrictive and stinging sanctions against the Russians, and continued the threat to freeze them out of the international money market - think chokepoint against "bad states"

Continued by Hillz Putin was facing a possibility of whimsical and fairly random economic hits, and these were things they could not control.
Trump is a businessman, Putin deals with his own, Trump would be more predictable.

Also, TFG and Hillz are bad actors and will not negotiate honestly. They won't abide by their agreements, and they will knife you if it is convenient.

Stupid question: Did she even know who the attacker was when she prepared and then delivered her statement on it?

I am amazed that within hours - despite conflicting reports of 1 or 2 attackers, wrong perp ID'd, etc. - that the authorities and the PM could discern the motives and beliefs of the attacker. That's some weapons-grade mind-reading prowess right there.

I know people who believe media is clueless concerning why we support PDT. I am beginning to question that belief. I am beginning to wonder if they care at all about us and our views. It is unimportant to them why Trump won. What is important is finding a way to destroy PDT. The Time article and the WSJ editorial yesterday are the latest probe for a weapon to destroy PDT.

London is a city so desperate to be seen as tolerant, no news of the injured was released. No clue about who was safe or not.

Liberals convince themselves multiculturalism works because we all die together, too.

An entire city of monkeys: see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil. Blind. Deaf. And dumb.

Members of the civil protection outside the damaged front of Brussels Airport, in Zaventem, a year ago today. The attacks left dozens dead and hundreds injured

Immersed in a seething pit of hatred, hidden in pockets of communities plagued by old animosities and ancient strife.

These people may have left their lands. But they have brought every tension, every conflict, every bit of fight here with them.

Flip it around ... who do we want in Russia. Putin the Nationalist, or an Obama-esque Globalist ?. I'll take Putin. Posted by: ScoggDog

yeah, Tom on Red Eye says Putin was mainly going after Hillary because it seemed clear she would win. Comey says Putin really hated Hillary so wanted to help Trump. Yet Hillary did some grand deals with Russians for $$$, like the uranium and Skolkovo (perhaps a bigger deal than the uranium). Then there are the Podesta dealings in Russia.

But it does seem the globalists versus "nationalists" is the bigger issue. Hillary/Soros/Merkel/Cameron seemed fine with regime change in Libya, knowing full well that would flood Europe with a million young male Muslims (few women and children). Their globalist intent seems clear ... it is anti-Western civ, anti-American(ist).

Comey also said Wikileaks did not get their info from Russia ... there was at least a third party, but "no evidence" the easy Podesta scheme involved Russia at all. The DNC refused to cooperate with the FBI, while the RNC opened up servers and wanted the help.

China and NK would probably love for US to make war with Russia a top priority. But peace is more likely if we give the people their nation states back, which means defeating the EU unelected bureaucrats and all their billionaire rat friends, Soros maybe at the top. CFR is maybe the US version of the EU, but with less direct legal authority. But they are entrenched.

Also, the cabin in the background could be smaller. A little cabin is always nice.
