The Obama administration can deny their evil doing until the cows come home. From the likes of Lois Learner targeting conservative groups to spying on American citizens and foreign leaders. Just ask Angela Merkel and James Rosen among others.

Clapper forgets as well how the NSA and the Obama administration spied on world leaders, starting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel:

President Barack Obama knew of the organization’s spying on German Chancellor Angela Merkel -- and approved of the efforts, a National Security Agency official has reportedly told a German newspaper.

Good article exposing the criminal treachery of the Obama administration.

Americans think our military is weak. Americans think we don't spend enough money on defense. Gallup Poll revelations.

A Gallup poll released Thursday found that 37 percent of Americans believe the United States is not spending enough on the military, with 28 percent saying defense spending levels are “about right” and 31 percent saying spending is too high.

Nearly half of those polled (45 percent) also said they believed the U.S. military is “not strong enough,” compared to 11 percent who said the military is “stronger than it needs to be.” This result tracks closely with a Gallup poll from February 2016 in which only 49 percent of those surveyed thought the U.S. military was the most powerful worldwide.

Gallup noted that the 49 percent figure was the lowest recorded number in the polling group’s 23 years of tracking.

The ONT Musical Interlude

*****

Suburbs appear to be dying. A house in the suburbs with white picket fence is no longer desired.

Business Insider reporters from the consumer, transportation, news, graphics, video, and innovation teams have explored this idea in a series of stories.

We're calling it the Death of Suburbia — because if the trends that they identified continue, the suburbs as we know them could be forever changed.

The line is blurring between city and suburb

Urban and suburban areas are becoming less distinguishable as modern populations value convenience and location over size.

KLEENEX ALERT

America loses a special Veteran. The touching story of Airman Kyle Smith and Bodza.

Kyle Smith and his dog Bodza, both members of the U.S. Air Force, had been through a lot together – so the man was there for his dying canine and stayed by his side until his very last breath. Bodza, the 11-year-old German shepherd, had worked as an explosive detection dog. He saved human lives by sniffing for bombs in countries like Iraq, Kyrgyzstan and Kuwait. The pooch started working with Smith in 2012, and the two clicked immediately. “I loved working with him because he taught me a lot — patience as a young handler, and how to understand that this job isn’t just about you,” the man told The Dodo. “He followed me around everywhere… and [told] me good night, every night.”

In all my life I have not yet found anyone who would pay me for what I love to do.

Most customers would be happy if you just gave them the product you were trying to sell.

Freedom to do what you love doing is a wonderful thing.

Without money, you'll starve.

28 It's ONT time!

To carry over from the Ryan bill thing...

First, reading long documents on the computer gives me a sick headache.

Second, to make full sense of the Ryan bill, one would have to sit down with the final version of PPACA and cross-reference what he's talking about. I may or may not have a copy around here somewhere, which I may or may not look for.

Third, on EXTREMELY cursory examination, it seems to be a somewhat piecemeal approach. I was personally hoping for an outright repeal, with maybe some kind of transition period to give room to unfuck the Medicaid expansion (which, by the by, constitutes the overwhelming majority of "newly insured" under Obamacare). That might be in the bill, but I'd have to sit down and do a line by line. If anybody wants to cough up $300 an hour, I'm happy to do it.

Fourth, I am less than thrilled with the creation of the "Patient and State Stability Fund," with control delegated to federal agencies and guided by somewhat general and aspirational statements. It looks like a new subsidy program, partially designed as a half-ass high risk pool. We didn't ask for a new federal program, goddammit. Quit soaking State residents and let them establish their own high risk pools if they should decide to do so. The bastards steal our money then bribe us with it. But I digress. It also raises the concern of what kind of rulemaking would come out of CMS for the administration of the Fund. This is in large part where PPACA took us to Destination Fucked.

I may have some more random thoughts, but this is my quick first impression after a ten-minute skim.

Spoke with Joyce yesterday: had left voicemail early afternoon, a few hours later, she called back - WooHoo!! Sounded good, but tired (Joyce had MN visitors in yesterday, which I think explains that).

50 The English Language is Liberating; The Left want to Corrupt and Silence It

It is the civic heritage that has established as a global presence such concepts as everyone-including the government-being constrained by the law of the land, the sanctity of private property, worship, and speech being held sacrosanct, and ultimately that rare combination of freedom to choose combined with the wisdom to choose wisely. Those mores, folkways, and customs are transmitted through a language that has become the vehicle of such values: English.

55 Man on the street says the new version of Obamacare is not playing well with John Smith ( his Christian name) the chairman of the firemen and policemen's union. Apparently the polio victim coverage was not sufficient and the homosexuals were disappointed in their payments to the taxman. The workmanship of the bill is certainly impressive although the man-made nature of the bill assures that some working men and housewives are gonna be unhappy. Our forefathers would be quite disappointed in the citizens of America including truckers and waitresses, who have permitted the monstrosity that is government-run healthcare. Fortunately we picked the best man for the job. Hopefully our new President will assign sufficient manpower to his AG and right-hand man, ignore political sportsmanship and prosecute the sniveling half-man that perpetrated this nightmare. 62 bluebell, Thanks.

It was great to see the honed presentations. We still use sweat equity to put on a classy and finally fast-moving show.

It's come a long way, and it was humbling to see how great it was, with electronic clickers, 20 seconds to answer tough questions, and even video presentations (James T. Kirk on the Constitution for a cringe-worthy moment!). It was like seeing your kid as an adult for the first time.

We still had the curse of the keynote speaker. Ours was late. I still had my backup speech in memory from a couple of years ago. My wife looked at me like I was crazy for wanting to overcome my shyness and talk on the Constitution and "We the People" (this years theme) to a pretty full ballroom in the KSU Alumni Center. I was not needed in the end.

Now that I am an elected official and not part of the official group, maybe I can be a judge next year, or, dare I say it, Keynote Speaker.

I gave it a cursory read. Looks like some tweaks to Medicaid but nothing that will reduce total Medicaid enrollment. Aliens will have to provide documentation before they receive benefits. Three month retroactive coverage eliminated. Might give some small savings around the edges.

The individual mandate and a lot of taxes are to be repealed. There are some positive incentives for HSAs.

Not sure what to make of this federal state-by-state risk pool fund. Could become a money pit.

74 "Urban and suburban areas are becoming less distinguishable as modern populations value convenience and location over size."

Hey, you know what the big cities have a lot of that there's much less of in the 'burbs?

Colossal black holes on the municipal balance sheet from unfunded, insolvent pension plans.

Ask someone way out in the Dallas suburbs right now if they'd rather be living smack dab in metro Big D, with the police pension time bomb detonating there.

Much of what impelled people out into the suburbs starting in the 1950s was the dysfunction of the corrupt big cities. The big cities are just as corrupt and dysfunctional now as then; it's just that the problems are currently mostly being papered over with promised and borrowed money. A situation that will not long endure.

That's always the risk. The basic problem with all this is it does nothing to correct the structural problems we have with the delivery and pricing (especially pricing) of health care goods and services. The even more basic problem is that we will probably never EVER see a correction of these structural problems as a great many of them were created by the government in the first place.

107 The same problem with obamacare also applies to university tuition.

Just as a thought experiment, let us assume the price of private car/truck ownership is prohibitive for most middle class citizens. So, applying the philosophy of Obamacare and college tuition to the problem of car ownership we have to calculate the proper number for the federal subsidy for car ownership taking into account, income, age, and need. After suitable consideration by both political parties, and a bi-partisan consensus, we could then begin a temporary subsidy for people in rural/suburban communities to help them with their expenses of car owner ship. (Have you seen the prices for a new pickup?)

Within a very short time those modern pickup trucks what cost near 50K will soon be priced at four times that much for a plain half ton, four cylinder. And even more people then will not be able to afford even a simple vehicle even with a generous federal subsidy.

149 Shopping Malls just need to be repurposed a bit. If you could change maybe a third of the retail space to condos, you might be able to shift some of the other spaces to non failing businesses. Record stores are gone, but with a couple of hundred condos, a daycare center and a gym become more viable. The food courts should see more traffic.

Particularly in cold weather areas, you could go out your door into a climate controlled area for a walk, or go to the movies or dinner or whatever.

If the person at the desk is literally a man, aren't they the man at the desk? I would also call it a woman at the desk if it was correct.

Mankind isn't a particularly gendered term.

What do these assholes call the polo survivors who died of it? A polo victim that died still makes sense. a polo victim that lived also makes sense. A polo survivor that died is just stupid.

Sportsmanship and fairness aren't the same thing. if they want something that IS the same thing, they should use fair play. Sportsmanship is something that a player provides while playing. Fairness, especially now, is something imposed from on high. A referee doesn't provide any sportsmanship to a match, he's their to look out for fairness.

I'm not calling a taxman a tax officer. Taxmen already have too much power, we shouldn't use language to make them feel even more powerful.

No one reads Malthus. They merely quote lefties who cherry picked specific phrases out of context back in the 60's trying to prove only socialism would save us.
The whole "tragedy of the commons" is about the breakdown of community contracts under stress, and it actually addresses concerns about the effects of enclosure.
And the corn laws and homesteading. And the false promises of the progressives to make everyone equal if they give up their freedoms and submit, and then wind up both poor and enslaved.

"To
prevent the recurrence of misery, is, alas! beyond the power of man. In
the vain endeavour to attain what in the nature of things is
impossible, we now sacrifice not only possible but certain benefits. We
tell the common people that if they will submit to a code of tyrannical
regulations, they shall never be in want. They do submit to these
regulations. They perform their part of the contract, but we do not,
nay cannot, perform ours, and thus the poor sacrifice the valuable
blessing of liberty and receive nothing that can be called an
equivalent in return."

What they eventually do is drive up housing prices and cost of living to the same unaffordable level as San Francisco. The techie hipsters don't want to live in "boring" cul-de-sac neighborhoods in Mountain View or Mill Valley, they want hip San Francisco with the latest designer brews and "exotic" foods. The result is that the people who work for The City can't afford to live there and must commute from Modesto and Santa Rosa.

185 The American suburbs as we know them are dying
Ashley Lutz

++++

The author of the piece is indeed a Lutz. Let's look at her major points.

The line is blurring between city and suburb
It's always been a blur. The suburbs form outside the city center as people look to get away from big city life, while still being close enough to commute to work in the city. Meanwhile, The city continues to grow outward as real estate is at a premium. It was always blurry.

McMansions are out
People tend to buy as much house as they can afford. Housing is cyclical. A 4 year trean in the prices of mansions is not a sign the suburbs are dying. When the economy goes back into an upward swing, mansion prices will follow.

Suburban malls are in crisis
Yes, the online economy continues to play havoc with bricks and mortar stores. Many of the store will indeed die out. This will happen in both urban and suburban areas. Therefore demonstrating zero difference between the two.

Companies are packing up and heading to the city
A few corporations, the number of which can literally be counted on one had, deciding to move their corporate headquarters to urban centers is trivial. It proves nothing and does not demonstrate that suburbs are dying.

The roads that connect suburbs to city are falling apart
As are the roads inside urban areas. It is a part of a strategy by big government to divert roads funds from road maintenance to mass transit projects. They continue to look for ways to force the American public out of their cars and onto mass transit. The strategy is failing.

Golf courses are shutting down
Yawn.

Casual dining is in crisis
The restaurant industry is a cyclical as the housing industry. When the economy picks back up, people will have more disposable income and they will start eating out more again.

Sorry lefty douchebags; the liberal fantasy of forcing everyone out of the suburbs into urban hellholes will remain a pipe dream for the foreseeable future.

Most cities west of the Mississippi are more like Houston and Phoenix, like what Gertrude Stein accurately described Los Angeles as "One Hundred Suburbs in Search of a City"

And old cities in the Midwest like Detroit, St Louis, Cincinnati, Cleveland, and Pittsburgh have lost half their peak populations and are still losing population.

Boomers = 67.2 (Units sold = 5.1 million)

Unless the sales figures changed significantly in 2015 and last year, that is a big difference. I suppose it depends on how one defines the groups and refers to "buy more cars"

Most reports I have perused from 2016 trumpeting GenY car buying exceeding that for Boomersin Cali and elsewhere do not make any analysis of per capita purchasing rates.

I think the real question is, "Who the hell gets polio anymore?"

Those who did get it, and survived, tended to be victims in every sense of the word since they didn't return to normal - far from it.

I disagree with your contention that "fairness" is imposed from on high, but the rest of your comment is exactly correct. Sportsmanship and fairness are two totally different concepts.

I call taxmen "scumbags". I call those who impose the taxes even worse. And there aren't even words for Benedict Roberts.

Clearly this British university has lost its mastery of the English language. I would consider that stupid, error-ridden language policy to be grounds for revoking whatever academic accreditations they have.

And I still find it amusing that English speakers, having one of the only gender-free languages around, are still obsessed with any hint of gender in a word. To prefer the term "chair" to "chairman" is peak silliness. Yeah, I don't mind using "chair" as an informal shortcut but that's about it.

233 I loved the sound of the Momas and Papas and Karen Carpenter. I was part of a folk music group in HS and we played several M and P songs. Karen's voice was so lovely and expressive. It's a real shame she died so young. Imagine if she had done albums from the Great American Songbook of standards. (The Carpenters also had a hell of a good live show. Richard Carpenter's talents as a musician, arranger and general entertainer were underestimated.)

So I had a really cool thing happen right before my eyes tonight. Was reffing a girls HS game in central NC (ok Trump country)....before the game they announce players and they all come out to the middle of the field with the ref crew. Then the National Anthem is supposed to play. Except tonight the sound system wasn't working so no Anthem.

So the ladies suggested they just sing it a capella. I held everyone there and they just started singing. The crowd picked up too and we all sang it together. There were a couple times that the teams kinda slowed down and I had to remind them of the next line but altogether just a really great time. I do love my job!!! Most of the time..... :eyeroll:

And to be fair, this also happened a couple years ago in 99pct Obama country. Surprised the F*^K outta me.

The top 20' of a 100+' aspen tree decided it didn't want to be up there and landed on our cabin last week. The rain from the "atmospheric river" decided it wanted to hang out in our cabin, so it made itself at home, ruining the brand new maple floor in the sleeping loft. Trump's response to the finger-lopping campaign was not to respond proportionately but to attack Obama himself.

From one of Trump's (co-written) books - Think Big: Make It Happen in Business and in Life - it has little bullet points from the chapters. These are some bullet points from the chapter entitled "Revenge:"

o When somebody screws you, screw them back in spades.

o When someone attacks you publicly, always strike back.

Sure, in the summertime even the cold water in the ground pipes is pretty warm, but in the winter ... no go with the solar bullshit. At my house here in Arizona, I put in a 40 gallon electric water heater. In the summer, the water comes out of the mains warm enough to shower in. In the winter it's cooler, but by no means icy. 304 The other consideration, is that rookie pilots on the feeder routes, work the worst hours in the business, and have sleep deficits second only to M.D.s in their Residencies.

Oh, and they often sleep in "crash pads", which are usually suburban houses equipped with four to six bunk beds per bedroom, that the aircrews use as a cheaper alternative to hotels.

Once they build up enough hours and seniority to get onto at least regional jets for a major carrier, life begins to improve, quickly.

But your average turboprop pusher is just barely making it in life, hoping to fight and claw his or her way into the cockpits of bigger iron.

Always, bigger iron.

The pilot of a B-747 or Airbus A-380 on International Routes, is easily a quarter mil a year earner.

But note, those are the absolute top tier, end of career, glory routes before those pilots are forced to age-out in retirement at 65, I believe.

Pity, the cabin crews also get the International Routes via seniority and hours.

And now you know why Granny Saggytits brought you your drink in row 54.

311 Why malls are dying, and the answer is easy. Those stores that are "mall" stores are dying. Sears, Macy's, Penny's and others are closing stores at a faster and faster rate. Then, the stores that make up the interiors of the malls are dying, American Apparel, Gap, American Eagle, Aeropostale and others are either shutting down or closing stores.

When those closing happens, it means empty space in the malls and triggering of lease clauses that lower the other retailers' rents, and in some cases giving those retailers an "out" of their lease.

Add to the problem that when those malls go to fill those vacancies, the new national retailers usually have criteria that includes one of their competitors being in that mall. It's not public criteria, but an in-house criteria that is used because it's a pretty easy decision to go where your direct competition is since you are going for the same shopper. With that competing retailer shuttering its doors at that location, it makes it an easy "no" on that site for the new retailer.

My water heater is in the attic.

But, it sits in a molded plastic catch-pan, with a 1 in. I.D. drain pipe that leads directly to one of the plumbing vents leading to the roof.

Heater leaks, the water just goes down the sanitary lines.

Oh, and my attic is part of the house's HVAC envelope. 8 inches of sprayed foam insulation under the roof deck, and the walls full to the sheetrock, with the same.

Used to be likewise under the house, but tearing out the subfloor after Hurricane Ike, too the insulation with it.

So for now, R-30 fiberglass down there. Till I can afford to bring in the sprayer for an 8 in. layer of closed cell, under the house.

Energy bills here are....low.

This discussion could go on and on. An advantage of the heater being within the living space, or basement, is that radiated (lost) heat from the tank will be captured within the house.

I would think the best arrangement would be an attic exchanger, which could be switched in and out of the supply to the heater. The exchanger need be nothing more than lengths of copper pipe. Probably have to be drained down during the winter. Just depends.

It does not stay as cool as the rest of the house.

But when it's 100 degrees in a Texas Gulf Coast summer, my attic is only in the low 80s.

City cut a deal with township a couple of decades ago to get the golf course (and its PGA tax revenue) annexed. No zoning changes. Got 1.5 acres, tall dense trees and the back boarders Metro Park (the wooded part). We're set back 120' from the road. Not the sticks, but not half bad.

I did once dream that if I won one of those huge lotteries I might buy one of those disused malls and close off part of it and bribe the local bureaucrats to make it residential, rent the rest out and live at the quiet end. I like high ceilings.

Ain't eatin' nothing, sick from distraction and lack of sleep. Did I mention how much I hate having neighbors? Can't afford to move and have to stay close to the hospital anyway.

370 That's still egregiously underpaid. I have to believe the airlines know that if their pet Congressmen are taken care of, they'll get a steady supply of pilots from third world airlines where 20K is a fortune and the American regional usually still has the same number of parts on the plane when he landed as when he took off.

Posted by: kbdabear at March 07, 2017 12:16 AM (AOrEZ)

This is most emphatically, Not True.

Between the Pilot's Unions, APAOA, FAA and the airlines' lawyers... this does not happen.

Flight Universities, such as Embrey-Riddle, are pumping out as many pilots as they can.

But the low entry pay, and horrid conditions for recently minted IFR, Commercial, Multi-Engine and ATP Pilots, (all of which are required ratings), results in a horrid attrition of pilots who would otherwise ascend through the ranks.

It really is a choke point in the pilot's career funnel.

The USAAF and USN, used NCO pilots to good effect in WWII.

Regionals could pay a good, non-college pilot $40k, with no higher career path, and get a raft of tremendous pilots to secure those routes.

The current system is failing, and killing them.

And sometimes, us.

o When somebody screws you, screw them back in spades.

o When someone attacks you publicly, always strike back.

o Go for the jugular so that people watching will not want to mess with you.

I've mentioned before how the rumble of artillery is a nice aspect of playing golf at the Camp Pendleton course (along with the rattlesnakes in warm weather).

Years back, when I think the Marines used to practice that sort of thing more, there were a time or two that I was a passenger in a car on I-5, passing through Pendleton on the coast, and a full-scale amphibious exercise was on. Plenty of ships off shore, armor rumbling along dirt roads paralleling the freeway kicking up dust, Hueys with Marines hanging on lines crossing the freeway from the beach side.

And lots of motorists pulling over to the shoulder to see their tax dollars at work.

423 Sully is a high-hour F-4 Phantom pilot, and high-hour sailplane pilot, well before his accumulation of a career's worth of hours in the office of various commercial mid-size aircraft.

If you want someone to fly an extreme aerobatic routine with an Airbus A-320, you call a guy like Sully.

His glide into the Hudson was but the glorious expression of his extensive experience at the controls. To us, extraordinary. To him, flying.

He flew[ it all the way to contact with the water. And even after, was Pilot in Command, till he was as sure as he could be that the cabin was vacant of humans, besides himself.

Airbus, hell. I'd go up with him in anything Captain Sullivan chose to fly, on any given day he chose to fly.

yeah there was a massive sunshine biscuits factory around here. It got torn down eventually. That place was epic huge, there's still railroad tracks going to the property. That would have been cool, but the foot print was so big the land was probably worth millions.

They sold the school I went to from grade 1-6. It was really old, built in the earlier 1900s. A big square 3 floor all brick building. Probably around 60-70ft wide, 40-50 feet deep. They turned it into retirement condos. I would have liked to know what they sold it for. That place would have been intense.

437 They sold the school I went to from grade 1-6. It
was really old, built in the earlier 1900s. A big square 3 floor all
brick building. Probably around 60-70ft wide, 40-50 feet deep. They
turned it into retirement condos. I would have liked to know what they
sold it for. That place would have been intense.

My Mom told me, when I was well into my 30s, I'm never too old to be put across her knee. Then again, my Mom was a serial child abuser because I was not only a free range kid, but a latch key kid as well (before 'latch key kid' became a thing). Mom would leave me a list of things to do when I got home from home school (such a slave driver!) above and beyond my homework including food prep for dinner, like putting potatoes in the oven to bake. I managed to do all that and still find time to play with my dog.

Mom related this story to me years later: There was this one time she came home from work and called my name; I was around 10-years-old. I didn't answer so she went looking for me. She found me in my room, with my .22 bolt action rifle disassembled and being cleaned. She later told me she turned around and walked away, leaving me alone, because I 'was doing something useful'.

In today's world, Mom would have been in jail and I would have been in foster care.

My current thoughts: there's something there, but Trump was wrong to phrase it as "tapp the phone at Trump Towers".

It has been pointed out that the Obama camp denials were carefully wordsmithed. E.g. The Obama camp has not said "no spying occurred", they said something like "Obama never ordered any spying" or "It was Obama's policy never to interfere with the Justice Department." Oh yeah? Did the Obama Justice Department go to FISA, did spying occur, and if so was Obama aware of it?

483 Mules are pretty amazing creatures, but I can't imagine how tough it must be to use them as military pack animals.

They're smart enough to figure out that going certain places is dangerous, and when they have thus figured that out, they are in no hurry to go.

And if someone tries to chivvy them into doing something they don't want to do, they will BITE. Hard. Or kick. Hard. And since they're smart, they will wait till inopportune times to do these things.

My first thought was of Sgt

war. The fact that back when soldiers relied on mules and horses they
also spent all their time with them probably helped get shit done. The animals bonded with the soldiers and vice versa.

After the bustle and hubbub of school, it was quiet and I got to play with my dog. Problem is, kids today do not know how to entertain themselves (without electronic devices). If I ever uttered the phrase, 'I'm bored', Mom would find something unpalatable for me to do, like clean my room or, worse, the dreaded garage. I was never bored 'out loud'. 453 The Ghost Ship fire in Oakland referenced earlier cost, what, 36 lives? Most were visitors there for a rave. Some were residents. Young adults who didn't quite get the "adult" part of the equation. Living the sweet bohemian life without a care in the world. Sad.
Posted by: Average Guy at March 07, 2017 02:00 AM (LMcFk)

Our daughter had been in that building back when she was in Oakland ('10-'13). She said there were many others like it in which the "arts community" resided because studio space was tough to afford.

Her general tone in discussing the matter was that "someone higher up" was to blame because the "arts community" members' needs weren't being met. She's thirty-three years old, but going on five when it comes to understanding how adults must function sometimes.

That is fascinating. A good read on a thought experiment turned into a play. Thanks.

For those of the TL;DR camp, passivity in a presidential candidate is not good and 'roaming the stage' full of confidence wins, even in the female version of Trump. It really upended many audience members' preconceived notions about what they witnessed and thought of the original live debate.

Well worth the time to read.

524 Thing is, I've re-watched all 3 Presidential debates since the election, when passions of the moment like ZOMG TRUMP GRABBED A PUSSY had faded, and the media narrative that Trump got clobbered in all 3 of them is just a myth. Even the first one, supposedly his worst, was close to a draw. And I thought he schlonged her in the 2nd and 3rd.

Clinton didn't suddenly become a great candidate on the debate stage. She was the same awful candidate as always: cold, wooden, over-rehearsed, rictus smile, spouting globalist talking points.

And Trump was just Trump, as always. She was so bad he almost won by default, though he did have some strong moments scattered throughout the debates while she had none.

I can only imagine. I was the only child of three. My brother is 13 years older than me, my sister 9 years older than me. By the time I was 10, both were out of the house.

Oh, and I was the bratty 'baby' brother.

One time, my sister went to visit a friend whose dad was a Navy captain living in MoQs. They had white furniture in the sunroom. I was around four or five, and my sister had to drag me with her. So, being a precocious (yeah, I'm going with that) little boy, I immediately began jumping across that white furniture, leaving small footprints all over it. Both my sister and her friend were aghast, and feared what her dad would say or do when he saw what I had done. Now the captain had three or four daughters and no sons. So when he saw what I had (innocently) done, all he said was, 'That's a boy!' Shocked both my sister and her friend.

I wasn't allowed to jump on the furniture, either. I have no memory of that escapade. That's my story and I'm sticking with it.

I even had to train my dog not to jump on the furniture as it was 'Mom's rule'. She only hopped on the furniture if we left her alone in the house for a bit. We'd put the key in the front door and hear the THUMP of her jumping down. She knew she wasn't supposed to be up there and when we walked in, she would be sitting on the floor, innocently wagging her tale. When I felt the sofa where she had been (it was still warm), she'd get a look of, 'Oh crap. Busted!' But I couldn't do anything or get angry because she was already off the couch. She was a funny, sweet, spoiled dog who knew the rules of the house but would break them when she got a chance. As far as knowingly breaking house rules, I'm not sure if she wore off on me or I wore off on her.

Lefties are the new Alexander Haig.

After Reagan was shot, Haig rushed to a podium and declared: "As of now, I am in control here, in the White House, pending the return of the vice president." Haig added, re presidential succession that "Constitutionally you have the president, vice-president and then the secretary of state..." Nothing like bumping yourself up two spaces in the order of succession. Lefties want to create their own line of succession, one with Hillarity! firmly ensconced as 'next in line' which, when you think about it, is just like her rigged candidacy.

595 Interesting article on the death of the suburbs.

I'm seeing that here in Louisville - granted, not exactly the biggest of cities in the first place. But it seems people are going in one of two directions ... either closer in - or farther out. Guessing their politics isn't an exact science - but way better than an educated guess.

I remember going to the site that morning........

And it was like a knife to the gut.

Maybe. I take a slightly more misanthropic view.

Learned that word right here at AoSHQ. I think from SMFH.

Today need to unearth my spare house keys since the one I used broke off inside the deadbolt yesterday as I was going to work. Failing such a retrieval, taking the deadbolt out and finding a place to fab up a key from it.

606 That whole death knell of the suburbs meme is constantly being put out by Progressive Urban Planners, convinced that we need to go Small and Vertical in family packaging.

They are not reporting on the trend.
They are trying to create the trend.

F'em.

I dunno' ... I do see a lot of people saying that even the suburbs are too crowded and going farther out into the county.

We're looking. But then again - we might get snatched up and moved to another part of the country anyway.

611 "I dunno' ... I do see a lot of people saying that even the suburbs are too crowded and going farther out into the county. "

Your statement actually supports what I am saying.

The conventional wisdom is that everyone is striving for the intimacy and richness of the urban lifestyle.

And that in order to fully enjoy that vibrancy and cultural diversity, they are willing to surrender the dream of fewer people per acre, and the large yard, in order to really live the South Park Sodosopa lifestyle.

And the documented trend is the opposite.

If the suburbs are taking on the urban flavor, people are migrating further out to get to the desired lesser density levels.

613 Banned words: Shouldn't humanity be hupersonity, or just huity, in the spirit of changing chairman to chair? Also, "homosexual" LITERALLY MEANS "same-sex," you morons (frothing and beginning to spit). "Homo" is Greek for "same." Englishpersons used to be educated about these things. (Weeps.)
