Can some of the NeverTrumps -- because a lot of the posters on here are still hard core NeverTrumps, as shown by Twitter feeds -- please explain to me how y'all can be 100% laughably wrong about Trump all through the primaries (he won't win a primary! he won't win the nomination! he won't get to 1250 in a floor vote!) and the GE (he'll lose in a landslide to Hillary! he has no path to 270!) and as President (his SCOTUS pick will be just as bad as Hillary's! He won't keep 1 of his campaign promises!) have NO SHAME or self-awareness to admit you've been dead wrong and instead continue to attack Trump and believe every unsourced rumor the NYT or WaPo prints? (newest one being tweeted by Gabe & NumbersMuncher is Maggie Haberman - the woman at NYT who *started* the fake "Trump throws baby out of rally" story -- saying that the Trump staff is in "misery").
Seriously, can NeverTrumps just not face the fact that they have lost all credibility and they no longer have anything to say about Trump worth hearing or are they just plain dumb? Did your failure to get Hillary elected shatter your cognitive dissonance and send you into a spiral of psychosis? Thanks in advance for your response. I have a general area and a couple of schools picked out, and I'm zillowing the heck out of stuff. I found a place that is the perfect fixer upper. I had one hell of an idiotic day today. Last night, I needed to go to town. Jumped in my Crown Vic and there was a low tire pressure warning light on. I didn't even know it had that. Got out and sure enough, the right rear tire was nearly flat. It was still standing up, but just barely. So, I go in the truck. I get back and pump the tire up with the air tank where it was sitting. Light didn't immediately go out, and I had to read up and learn the thing must be moving at 20MPH+ to reset. Well, this morning it was back nearly flat again. So time to get the thing in my shop and see what's wrong. But there were two tractors in the way, and both had dead batteries, big 4DLTs, and both old and shot. One will charge up a little, but the other was dead, dead, dead JIm. And then I discover the key won't turn. The ignition tumbler thing is seized up somehow. So that takes over an hour just to get room to drive the car in. I get it in there, get the wheel off, and find a nail. It was long with a small head, and I can't see how it stood up enough to puncture the tire. So I get my plug tool, the little reamer thing to ream out a hole, and the other doohickey to put those stringy plugs in. But my plugs were too big for the hole -- I was all out of the small ones. Hole just won't stretch and gape enough to take the plug, so I have to go to town and get some more little plugs. And by the time I get it fixed, it's past 5PM. I used to be able to do something like that in a few minutes. But this damned RA has made me worthless. I ain't worth a shit anymore. And my knees are now killing me. The spirit is willing but the flesh is shot. Posted by: publius (not Breitbart publius) at February 10, 2017 10:23 PM (DW+jj) Posted by: someone had to say it at February 10, 2017 10:23 PM (tyrWm) 82

From Drudge: Junkie Dolphins
In what can only be described as a youngster doing the 'puff, puff, pass', West Australian dolphins may be using blowfish - or 'blowies' - to get high, scientists have found. . . . . She said that in Australia, scientists had seen juveniles mouthing blowies in the Leschenault estuary in WA's South West and a sub-adult dolphin carrying an inflated blowie for a few hours in the Kimberley. Blowies have a lethal toxin called tetrodotoxin, present in their skin, flesh and internal organs. If consumed, this toxin can be deadly to predators, including humans. . . . . According to the documentary, small doses of the toxin have a narcotic effect and the program considered it as recreational drug use by dolphins. Posted by: Anonosaurus Wrecks. It is an odd ruling. Presumably by the same
precedent citizens and companies could sue the government over Obamacare...because it costs them money, or CAFE standards, or abortion (why do you think SS is going bankrupt?) Of course again the problem is everyone knows that right leaning judges won't take leftwing precedent like this and run with it... Posted by: Joe Biden at February 10, 2017 10:46 PM (aZq03) My point exactly... when conservatives sue, they have to follow the rules and show how they would suffer specific monetary damages from a government action. Apparently, liberals can sue with no more cause than the government action hurt their feelings because it is for sure no state suffers monetary damages from the feds NOT flooding them with extra aliens that cost money. Same with private companies. Even if they hired someone who was coming from a terrorist state on a visa, they have options like hiring someone else OR allowing telecommuting for their "employee" that would limit any "loss". It takes just a simple majority to pass, and is used sparingly when some Lord Fuckstick is rambling on incessantly. If anyone doesn't want to hear me whine some more about this stupid RA, just skip over this. It's something else. My knees were killing me, but as I sat here at the computer desk, the knees had subsided, but then right as I sat here, a big ol' knot popped up on the back of my right hand, near the wrist. It's all those little bones and the joints there, whatever they're called. Using those little tire plug tools, which are little T-handle things, one a reamer to enlarge and buff up the sides of the hole, and the other too, which you use to actually stick the plug, I aggravated those little joints. It was delayed reaction. With the swelling, the tendons are tight and make it painful to move the fingers, and they're even drawing up a little bit. Now, that will go down some time tomorrow. I could help it along by taking a dose of prednisone, but I don't like to use that unless I absolutely have to. And that is what just a little workout of the hands will do using simple tools with this damnable RA. @430,
Take the prednisone. Sometimes, you have to. I need it to keep my O2 levels up. I was managing okay without it, then had my esophagus get plugged with supplements and wound up in the ER. Without anything, my O2 levels cratered. I managed to get some prednisone from Vanatu and I can breathe again. It's depressing but what can you do? You need to function. Posted by: browndog at February 10, 2017 11:28 PM (bGMOs) For us, zoomies are when we let one or more of the Borzoi out for a run in the (very large) yard. Spit in the ocean, so to speak. A BB gun vs a .50 BMG. I've been taking NSAIDs of various flavors for nearly 15 years, and it's gotten a little rough on the GI tract, which they will do. Right now, I take Aleve, but I can't take too much of a dose. RA is to regular arthritis like pneumonia is to bronchitis. Well, osteoarthritis can be pretty bad, not to minimize the severe cases. If the flyovers went asymmetrical warfare on your ass, you'd be screaming for mercy within months. Take a look at Matt Bracken's essay, "What I saw at the Coup" if you want an idea of how it would play out. Politicians and their guardians don't like dying. We flyovers don't have to storm NYC. No point. NYC depends on goods and services provided by the flyovers. No supplies, NYC becomes a jungle where the strong prey on the weak. NYC would implode within days if the supply chain was interrupted for any length of time. Posted by: Blake at February 11, 2017 12:09 AM (WEBkv) 463

Thing about Nordstrom's is, will the facts ever be available? I mean, dispositive facts about the merchandise line question.
I have zero knowledge of the retail industry, or Nordie's specific situation, but it seemed odd when I saw a claim that sales of Ivanka's line had declined 10% (presumably over the last year, or several quarters?). Just hard to imagine sales falling, given what was going on otherwise (i.e., the campaign). It's sickening and alienating (further alienating) to see so many in entertainment, and now commerce, beclown themselves by sharing such ignorant, contemptible, de facto authoritarian and often racist garbage. redbanzai - great, and thanks in advance.
I believe in you're in some aspect of econometrics, economic modeling, forecasting, etc. By your lights, or those of the people you work with, the field in general, has there been any degradation in the integrity of macroeconomic data you use? There was that very odd problem with the unemployment rate estimate the last quarter before you-know-who's re-election in 2012; there has also been a rather palpable disconnect between "experienced" inflation at the consumer level vs. the CPI-U (esp. 2009-2013 or so). That sort of thing. I figure that those like you who use this data in a very professional, daily sense would have an acute sense of any shenanigans. I'm deplorably slow to warm to black helicopter-ish things of any flavor, but macroeconomic numbers *did* start to raise an eyebrow the last 8 years. Your informed take much appreciated. We flyovers don't have to storm NYC. No point. NYC depends on goods and services provided by the flyovers. No supplies, NYC becomes a jungle where the strong prey on the weak. NYC would implode within days if the supply chain was interrupted for any length of time.
Posted by: Blake at February 11, 2017 12:09 AM (WEBkv) Days? More like hours. We have storms here in red Virginia that knock power out for anywhere from 12 hours to 7-10 days, and that is in suburban areas. Everyone just gets used to it and relies on your emergency supplies. Those in the rural areas have much much larger emergency stocks. Anytime the power goes out in NYC, they are rioting within 8 hours. No emergency supplies equals pandemonium. Hedge funds so shut down pretty frequently (um, obviously, esp. the bad ones). But the CGI closure, how quickly it happened after the election - I guess it's a good sign my mind can still boggle at the crudeness, the brazenness, the transparent audacity of the corruption the Clintons and their enablers brought to the highest levels of US governance. Speaking of which, everyone is rightly spun around the axle of the latest, extravagant lawlessness of the judiciary (not least myself - I think it's a much bigger deal than most seem to) - but once Sessions and the administration have dealt with their top 10 herculean tasks, I think it's *imperative* that the massive, unprecedented criminality of the she-Clinton and her gang (Espionage Act, Public Records Act, relevant anti-corruption statutes, obstruction of justice on all) be fully investigated, and prosecuted.
Posted by: rhomboid at February 11, 2017 12:17 AM (QDnY+) That would be a great big yes... the value of BLS data has degraded significantly since the beginning of the great recession. Some of that is the result of explicit government manipulation of the data (GDP figures since 2013 are a good example of this) and some is a result of cocked up government policies (the unemployment rate is a good example of this). I have had to find proxy variables for several bits of macroeconomic data that has become useless for forecasting purposes. For instance, I have dropped the unemployment rate as an variable in my modeling for TANF expenditures and substituted the 24 and 60 month TANF roll attrition rates. While I do not work a great deal with the CPI-U, I will say in general that a lot of the values in that measure are "adjusted" for the estimated increased value of goods that increase in quality (electronic goods are a good example of this). Those adjustments are VERY subjective and therefore easy to manipulate. Posted by: redbanzai at February 11, 2017 12:57 AM (FTXAT) 572

The roar of the .45 shook the room. Charlotte staggered back a step. Her eyes were a symphony of incredulity, an unbelieving witness to truth. Slowly, she looked down at the ugly swelling in her naked belly where the bullet went in. "How could you?" she gasped. I had only a moment before talking to a corpse, but I got it in. Almost the only hot water we encountered the whole time - VERY hot. Birch branches. Was actually very nice. Got take a very hot shower, do the heat, another shower, scratch with the birch. One thing I recall was the striking difference in body types. We Americans were a fairly scrawny to average lot of college-age guys. The Soviet guys there were older, and fairly brawny and built. Not good, in terms of Cold War male demonstration/intimidation dynamics. But the girls had an even more interesting time. The Russian women were shocked at how skinny they were. It being Leningrad, at the time in question, some of the women fairly aggressively scolded the girls - "you have nothing for the bad times!". Doubtless some of these women had lived through the blockade as children - unimaginable what they might have seen and lived through. These ladies had, shall we say, "plenty" for the bad times, ahemm. But it was a fairly powerful sort of working woman heft, not obesity. Fantastic time. Posted by: rhomboid at February 11, 2017 01:39 AM (QDnY+) 621

Website still down, but the webhost acknowledged today that my inability to access it is on them, not me. So, there's that. May still lose years of webworks. Actually, redbanzai, don't you wonder what your
counterparts in the CA budget forecasting offices must be seeing, saying, and thinking some times? That is, if they deal in real, legitimate terms with their subject. I have to think that, at some level, in some compartmentalized niche, there are estimates that reflect the dire realities, without the wholesale distortion that is used to cook the books. Posted by: rhomboid at February 11, 2017 01:31 AM (QDnY+) I actually have had some contact with my counterparts in Cali... Mostly, they seemed enamored of the the same macroeconomic general equilibrium models that the Romers used and which so spectacularly failed to predict unemployment going forward from 2009. While the seemed to value the theoretical and academic models even when those models were proven to not accurately predict much, the forecasters themselves seemed OK. In a place like Cali, though, anyone allowed near the actual budget is likely to be of the same mind as the liberal decision makers. Posted by: redbanzai at February 11, 2017 01:43 AM (FTXAT) 625

Scary and depressing stuff about BLS, redbanzai.
(for the non-econometric/finance geeks, that's Bureau of Labor Statistics, the main federal govt. office responsible for macroeconomic data and numbers) One more example of the systemic degradation I whine about here regularly. It's impressive how much of Lovell's subtle mannerism Hanks manages to take on without making it a caricature. And Harris does a great job as Kranz. Oh gosh, and the guy who plays John Aaron. All this over the chessboard and while sipping beer.

Off to snooze, but a humble-brag first:
At Tet, my #1 son wanted to dance for the angel-clan - he has a crush on one of my angel's sisters, I can tell - and before he began, with his sisters and me chanting the tune for him, he drew his blade, turned, and saluted the Colonel before he began. You could have bowled me over with an anorexic - the boy couldn't have done better if he'd been trained and drilled for weeks. Posted by: Your Decidedly Devious Uncle Palpatine. Glory to Kekistan! I will probably watch John Wick on Sunday. I don't expect it to be as good as the first. But I expect he will, get this, shoot a lot of people in the head. Posted by: BourbonChicken at February 11, 2017 05:15 AM (VdICR) 710

Posted by: BourbonChicken at February 11, 2017 05:15 AM (VdICR) Probably a fairly safe bet. Also, A suit might get worn. Posted by: Aetius451AD at February 11, 2017 05:19 AM (92kX2) 711
684 So last night I woke up to cat vomit on the ONT; tonight it's all Eastern Europe. Hope someone's tracking this.
Heh! A little slice of America. My ancestors were of the Anglo/Saxon, Germanic, Celtic variety. So I had nothing to add. The "joys" of working about 14 years of mid shifts are I don't sleep at night anymore. I'm off right now so I decided to cook red beans and rice and added beef, onions, carrots, celery, broccoli, Hungarian Wax Peppers, mushrooms, diced tomato's. So, sort of Jambalaya-ish. Used the last of the cajun seasoning and creole seasoning when the cajun stuff ran out. Also pepper. The ole condo smells like what I cooked and thats a good thing. The FBI already knows who the rioters are, and soros knows who the rioters are. The FBI just needs to know who soros is, a cryptomoslem just like obozo. That's the problem.

Hey Horde. Who's got their ears up? Could barely sleep and pup chased that bit away. Fresh coffee, here.

I'm up, but only because I'll watch the Premier League (Arsenal v. Hull) 7:30 a.m. (east coast time) match. I like watching Arsenal lose because Piers Morgan is an Arsenal supporter. On to of that, I root for Man United.

Posted by: Eromero Soros? Just curious, why would you say that? I always thought he was more of an imp. Causing destruction for destruction's sake. Posted by: Steve and Cold Bear at February 11, 2017 06:34 AM (3hIZX) 719

Nope, S and CB. Just a football fan ever since I was a kid watching my local PBS station show 1 hour edited games back when I was a preteen in the '60s. The Barclay's Premier League is the most fun to watch. I've been rooting for United for a couple of decades now. The '99 Treble winning team was a highlight for me. Before the Champions' League moved their final to Saturday (for more eyeballs), at work I used to put in for half a day off in January once I found out on what Wednesday the final would be played in May. Yeah, I even had tickets to World Cup games at the Meadowlands in '94; I put my name on the list in '92. I used to go to the Meadowlands to watch the Cosmos play all the time. I even watched the Cosmos play in 'The Soccer Bowl' (the old NASL final) at RFK in '80 before I even moved to NYC, travelling from Norfolk, VA to do so.
I like football, the real one, which makes me a heretic in these parts. Posted by: RickZ at February 11, 2017 06:49 AM (K+bWW) 721

I wouldn't say that, NFL has gotten pretty unpopular here, judging by some of the comments on the SB threads. Posted by: Steve and Cold Bear at February 11, 2017 07:19 AM (3hIZX) 722
I learned to enjoy soccer when the kiddos all played locally. Even took my sport hating hubby to a Copa USMNT game. He had a blast! Now we're American Outlaw members, ha ha. I will catch him watching BPL instead of the computer many times.
I would never mention that here tho... Posted by: RedDish at February 11, 2017 07:43 AM (5eXg1) Processing 0.11, elapsed 0.1083 seconds. |
