Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Overnight Open Thread (4 Feb 2017)Journalism Every day the MSM just gets worse and worse. Take this for example. Al-Qaeda says Trump has ignited 'the flame of jihad' with Yemen raid. Seriously? Like they haven't been targeting us already for decades? The flame of jihad is always burning with these idiots. Useful idiots in the MSM fall for the propaganda because it fits their agenda. Nazi Yo, all you progs looking for Nazi's, might I suggest you look at who is funding your stuff. Look who funds the group behind the call to arms at Milo's Bezerkley event. Assault Rifle Bass SoloTo wish someone "good luck" is taboo aboard a ship. So are transporting bananas and whistling. But sighting a pod of dolphins can invite good fortune, I discovered last November, as I sailed 3,000 miles from Los Angeles to Honolulu. Wearing a gold hoop earring, I learned from one of my crewmates, who had one dangling from his left ear, is lucky, too. Many pirates believed tattoos and parrots also conferred the good fortune needed to survive the unwieldy conditions of a life at sea.Galactic Empire I think I have to get this album. Here's the entire album stream. It's so good. Wut? Kinda funny coming from the party that condoned Obama's disregard of the law and supported Hillary for President and ignored Lois Lerner. Democrats: No man is above the law. Say, I thought we weren't supposed to say "man" and use "person" instead. Cat vs Drone Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

Federal authorities have identified a Philadelphia journalist as the woman who infiltrated and might have secretly recorded a closed-door discussion of congressional Republicans at their Center City retreat last week, according to law enforcement sources familiar with the matter.
After a probe involving multiple agencies, they said Emily Guendelsberger is unlikely to face federal charges in Philadelphia, despite getting past security and into a room in the Loews hotel where Vice President Pence met privately with senators and representatives. But it is unclear whether she could face local prosecution for covertly recording the conversations, a possible violation of state law. That decision falls to the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office, according to the sources, who were not authorized to speak publicly about the case. Posted by: Tilikum Killer ----------- Well, I'm not sure about that, but I can tell you how one gets stung on the goody. If one rides a motorcycle long enough, sooner or later you will collide with a stinging insect of one kind or another. Assuming that you are wearing a leather jacket and jeans, the impact on your chest will stun the little bugger, and it will (unbeknownst to you) fall down into the crotch area to be trapped between your leg and the tank or seat. At some point the little bugger will regain consciousness, and just a little squeeze as you are riding along and *ZAP*. Posted by: Mike Hammer, etc., etc. at February 04, 2017 10:49 PM (ZO497) 176

Morons, GnuBreed mentioned it first: Check out the NOAA whistleblower story in the Daily Mail. Not surprising to us, of course, but could prove a turning point in the global warming farce. What stood out to me was how the original data sets were not archived; contra basic scientific protocol, so the full extent of their malfeasance can't be exposed. Echoes of Hillary... Posted by: Mike Hammer, etc., etc. at February 04, 2017 11:14 PM (ZO497) The problem is, when a compressor fails, it can strew metal debris through the entire system, and much winds up in the expansion valve/orifice tube. Posted by: AnonymousDrivel at February 04, 2017 11:05 PM (1CroS) In the sciences - as opposed to this shit - you have to deposit your data as supplementary material to accompany a submitted manuscript. For example, X-ray crystal structure papers have all of the reflection data and calculated structure factors deposited, so anyone can check the soundness of the solution. Even something as rock solid as X-ray structures occasionally turns up an erroneously solved structure. As for climastrology, anything they come up with that is in fact accurate is purely an oversight. Posted by: Deplorable Jay Guevara at February 04, 2017 11:20 PM (SRKgf) 245

Even something as rock solid as X-ray structures occasionally turns up an erroneously solved structure.
Posted by: Deplorable Jay Guevara at February 04, 2017 11:20 PM (SRKgf) Reminds me of the "bond stretch isomer" incident, which turned out to be due to a slight impurity giving an incorrect bond length, which is something I've come across many times (I've even had to do variable temperature 15-N NMR with gasseous 15-N2 in a J.-Young tube to prove a certain naysayer wrong). Sadly, a lot of reviewers just don't care too much and never bother with the supplimental data. Heck, a lot of journals never bother forwarding on that information to reviewers in the first place. Frankly, the experimental section of a paper is always the most important part, IMHO. Posted by: The Nuclear Magnetic Hat at February 04, 2017 11:29 PM (vBeA5) 275

Deplorable Jay Guevara: "In the sciences - as opposed to this shit - you have to deposit your data as supplementary material to accompany a submitted manuscript..."
Oh I know. Our bench work was archived. Every Western, Northern, Southern, x-ray, immuno, slide, you name it. Granted, there is material aging that cannot be affordably preserved for the rest of history, but the raw material was available for review. And the best experiments? We loved showing our archives. It's like going back over a trophy case and reminiscing. Which goes to reiterate that what was going on in climate science was outright fraud. They have numbers. That's what they have. A big list of numbers. If they can't or won't produce the raw data and the explicit methodology of how they obtained it, then they truly have absolutely nothing but a multipage confession jumping out of their hands saying, "Arrest me now. I want to tell the hoard of my pride in it when you all offer prayers for family and friends.
It is a fine reflection of the depth of your character. As a consequence of that, I have a small request but first a story. I grew up with a guy who became a priest and, over time, has risen to a position of great influence and responsibility within the Church - he is an Archbishop - his immediate boss is the Pope - seriously. When the shit gets too real, he returns home to decompress and we get together to get tanked, play cards and forget about mankind's problems. Years ago he guided me through my spiritual crisis shortly after the death of my wife and I value his humanity greatly. He's a great man and I don't offer that honorific lightly. He came home for a few days this week and we did our normal thing. After some serious beer drinking, we settled back and began talking about PT, the state of our country and the state of our DOMESTIC enemies. After much back and forth, I asked him what could I do to overcome our home grown leftists. He told me - Pray for those fuckers. His exact words. I've considered his advice and decided to accept it. I'm still at war with them - but I have now added those miserable fuckers to my prayer list along with all here who need it. I humbly ask that you consider to do likewise. They really need it. Perhaps even more than we do. Posted by: Tonypete at February 04, 2017 11:32 PM (tr2D7) 282

NOAA has been "adjusting" their temp data for years, saying that they have to compensate for the heat island effect in metro areas. Where they started getting into trouble was that they were "adjusting" the temperature data from rural reporting stations and always "adjusting" it upwards for no good reason. Then a couple of years ago, they quit releasing the raw temperature data and even refused to turn it over to Congress when requested. They politically appointed head of NOAA even produced a letter from about 500 "scientists" who approved of her not releasing the raw data because of the damned climate deniers.
The result of all this chicanery has been that NOAA has claimed that every year for the past three years is the "Hottest Year EVAH!" And we are all gonna die. Posted by: Deplorable Old Blue at February 04, 2017 11:43 PM (9iR5/) 306

Learned at concealed carry class this morning:
Decisional shooting 1. Was there a way for the suspect to injure or kill? Is there a way for the suspect to bring deadly force or serious bodily injury? 2. The tool to carry out the threat. Time and distance is an issue. Position of suspect. 3. Does the threat exist? Does the suspect manifest intent to cause harm? 4. Do you feel threatened? OK, that was right off the powerpoint. Now let's go to Berkeley, and you are a member of a conservative campus group and you are wanting to get in to see Milo. With a knowledge of history the whole NAZI's under my bed schtick the left is throwing up is comical.
Fascism came into existence because Mussolini, an international socialist, believed that you could support your country even if you were a socialist. In post-WW1 Germany the international socialists were attempting to bring down the more or less democratic government with "street theater" - riots, theft, assaults and assassinations. The German National Socialists arose as a competitor - and since misguided young men like mayhem and they would swap back and forth between the two sides depending on who seemed to have the upper hand... The German Center didn't know how to stop it, but did know that a country that couldn't maintain basic order would not last - and they saw the bloody outcome of their neighbors in the Soviet Union. The National Socialists for their part were far more pragmatic then the communists, and allowed the German Center and Right to think that they could be worked with. The NAZIs did then crush the international left and took power on an anti-communist line. Of course not long after they took power they...allied with the Soviet Union to dismember eastern Europe between the two of them. The Soviets and Germans would fall out and go to war, but it should be pointed out the National Socialist Germans and the fascist Italians almost went to war in 36 as well. The notion that there was as fundamental ideological difference between Stalin and Hitler is plain wrong, or at least outside of the notion that each man believed he should be the paramount leader... So then what does this all mean? Well there are differences between national and international socialists, they aren't particularly important. Socialists of all stripe are ultimately totalitarians and their leaders will work with each other, or oppose each other, as appropriate for their own personal interests. And as for the street level thugs on both sides, ideology takes a distant second place to the joys of power and destruction. This is why the tactics of the socialist left are no different then the national socialist "right". You can't, ultimately, convince the left to stop their increasingly violent and authoritarian ways because that is preciously why they are part of the movement. In this regard a meeting was held between the Board of Directors of WESTERN UNION, MONEY GRAM, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) alongside with the Ministry of Finance, As a consequence of our investigations it was agreed that the sum of One Hundred and Fifty Thousand United States Dollars ($150,000.00 USD) should be transferred to you out from the funds that The United States Department of the Treasury has set aside as compensation payment for scam victims. In a small defense of Fukuyama, in 1991 there was an enormous spread of American values and the future seemed limitless - America had just won the cold war and it was clear to *everyone* that America was in ascendance.
The previous eleven years had seen a suddenly dynamic and muscular America exerting influence over the world in a way not seen since Britain was knocked down to size in the early 19th century. But then America stopped doing what it had done. We had replaced Reagan with a Bush...and would soon replace Bush with a clown. America's military was weakened, but far more important America's will to fight or even defend itself ebbed away. We abandoned allies - like Masood's government in Afghanistan - and we let Europe chain ourselves to it. A common argument in the 90s was Europeans arguing that America was deeply guilty for not cleaning up the mess Europe had left in Rwanda - with the surety that if America had intervened it would have been damned for that as well. 1991 should have seen a Pax Americana much like the Pax Romana of Augustus or the Pax Britannica of the 19th century. But we threw it away, and for...nothing of any importance. And we have since paid for it, and will almost certainly pay far more for it, even if Trump exceeds our growing expectations. Mom is getting crazy. No hot water and The One Who Made The Rule about panicking people after 10:00 pm just called me about a fucking water heater.
I had to check myself because I've only panicked her after ten back in 1993 when I was arrested for doing things I should not have been doing. Her answer: "Spend the weekend in jail." She was right, of course. My answer tonight: "Don't ever call me after ten pm again to panic me over nothing, please?" Wash day is tomorrow and she loves her showers. Dad isn't quite spry and lucid enough yet to diagnose what is wrong. Ten will get you twenty that it is the thermocouple. The tank is probably fifteen years old, though. *Serenity Prayer* My heart is still beating pretty hard. If it not an emergency, Do Not Call after 10:00 P.M.!!! Because of colonialism
*** Britain is arguably the most successful colonial state...but the second is clearly Arabia. In 600AD Arabs live in the Arabian peninsula and southern Iraq. They didn't live in the Mahgreb, or Egypt, or Israel, or Syria, etc, etc. But under the caliphate they conquered those regions and colonized them. And the interesting part is that while say a Hindi or a Maori can argue the problems (and benefits) of colonization, the groups that Arabs colonized were generally destroyed. Your Dad was a wise man. Went through much the same with my Dad; 7 yrs stroke survivor. He never regained the ability to walk, but thankfully, his mind and personality remained intact. Arbalest, I guess the historical reference joke missed the mark. Typically, if one is in a resistance movement against a government, they are risking their lives because they know a death sentence will be carried out when caught. These ahistorical government employee pajama boys and girls are not risking their lives, but mine, with their leaks. This isn't a Hollywood blockbuster and they are not Jedi knights. 495 RickZ I guess the historical reference joke missed the mark. I wasn't sure. But, having worked with government civilians for a couple of years, the thought of having to work in the public sector sends waves of fear and angst and titanic dread among very many of them. He may have already split the Republican party, leaving an openly Socialist Democrat party as the majority. (2) Trump will cave on immigration much faster and more thoroughly than Rubio. He's admitted it. He doesn't care. I'd get your support of Trump 3 months ago for "bringing up the issue" but we're finished now. Taking a trip down memory lane and reading some of those comments is just so much winning. (Lesson learned? Never rely on The Horde for tips on the ponies.) I was for Trump from the beginning and for a number of obvious reasons. But the outlier reasons were: 1) Trump was not a politician; 2) Trump was not a lawyer; 3) Trump was not a lawyer/politician, the worst creature of all. It surprised me at the time that so many here didn't 'get' Trump, except for being OMG! OMG! OMG! a stalking horse for Hillary! and OMG! OMG! OMG! destroying the Republican Party in one fell swoop. The last two plus weeks have been nothing but sheer joy. There is not one of the other 16 candidates who could have done what Trump has done, not even in an entire four-year term (they never would have gotten reelected). Hell, Trump is making me excited about watching a State of the Union address for the first time -- ever. That takes some serious winning. "Trump has balls. I like balls." I picked that quote because it was so specific in its horrible predictions. The guy was either wholly bluffing his friends, or he had epistemic closure. As Rumsfeld would say, "You're shit's all retarded and you talk like a fag." Wait, "There are unknown unknowns." yeah that one.

Here's one of those comments, without attribution: Nor am I convinced that electing Trump really sends that message. It might, but I am afraid it just sends the message that "the base had a hissy fit, oh well, we'll still coopt Trump for our purposes." Yep, we had a hissy fit alright, just like with all those TEA Party riots. Oh, wait. And the most ironic thing about that comment is Trump is coopting the RINOs to his agenda. Funny that. It's as if no one bothered to read 'The Art of the Deal' before or during the campaign. 8 years? The rot is decades old.
Posted by: Puddleglum at February 05, 2017 05:52 AM (Kyo8L) In my asshole opinion, the rot started and became institutionalized when public employees were allowed to unionize. That historical fuckup has to be fixed if we are ever to have anything approaching a sane and 'works for the taxpayer' bureaucracy. Now, as we see with this Deep State bullshit, the bureaucracy works for themselves. The fact that no one at the EPA was fired for the Gold King Mine disaster says it all. Nothing to apologize for NH.
I liked a lot of what Walker has done as gov but it was pointed out here about his CoC stance on immigration. I could never vote for Cruz for a reason that I pointed out here what should have been more than enough times. And the fact that he ran tells me I don't want him on the SC either. Just because he can debate our side really well when it suits him doesn't mean he truly believes it. His running showed me he is willing to throw out the Founders' original intent when it suits him. The others running didn't deserve any consideration so early on it was Trump by default for me. After that I liked him more and more every day. @404: Did anyone mention "The Deer Hunter" in the way of hard-boiled endings? I can't think of any movie that had such a hard-shot-to-the-solar-plexus ending.
I saw it when it first came out at a movie in Baltimore. I was a college student then, waiting in line with some buddies to enter when the film ended. The crowd coming out was absolutely silent. They looked like they were leaving Eleanor Rigby's funeral. I remember thinking that something pretty stunning must have happened and, sure enough, it had. It certainly made enough of an impression on me that I remember it forty years later! Posted by: mac at February 05, 2017 07:49 AM (eI49Y) 537
