I'm torn about this because I don't much like allegorical paintings and these bison happen to be getting it in a valley full of bison skulls, but the human, equine, and bovine forms are exquisitely rendered.

I wanted to share this inspiring story with the folks on here who share faith in Christ. It is an account from the priest of the Orthodox church which I attend when I get a chance. First some background:
Several weeks ago they placed an onion dome with a cross on the top of the church. This is a big deal in the OrthodoxC church as it symbolized the eternity of God and the centrality of the cross. The priest offered prayers:"Falling down before thine immeasurable love for the human race...we beseech thee bless this emblem of the cross..so that it might be a powerful protector,a defense. a terrifying sign to enemies, both visible and invisible, an ornament, a glory..and bless all who enter this house in faith." Apparently this was the first time this priest has offered that prayer of behalf of the worshipping community (He hasn't been involved in a church building program before) and he felt it was an emotional and humbling event.
This is the story which he shared in their newsletter:
As a child, I was not able to hear. I was deaf. My parents took me to many doctors, and so I was taught to read lips and sign. I remember riding him in the subway and not hearing any noise from the train on the track. I remembered the day that I was granted the gift to hear. I was unable to enunciate words, only sounds. I went to speech therapy, and one day the therapist took hold of the cross that I wore around my neck and said, "What a beautiful cross."
I repeated "cross", my first word enunciated clearly and with purpose. I did not know the theology of the church or St Paul's words, "I preach Christ crucified." I only knew that the cross was given to me in love, and it was high on a building I went to with my grandmother and lit candles, and at the end of the service went to kiss the cross the priest was holding.
Since that time that I could say my first word, I have come to understand the centrality of the cross for those who profess Christ as the son of God. It is a constant reminder of the words that I pray everyone I vest and place the pectoral cross around my neck: "If any person wishes to follow me, let them lift up the cross and follow me."

He's a good man. From what I gather he did very well in the military chaplaincy and could have progressed even further up the ranks, but he felt that God was calling him back into the local church where he makes a lot less money because they they are rather a small community, and his wife is a dear. I'm blessed to know them.

I used to enjoy going down to Chicago to spend a day Christmas shopping with a friend, or going to the Art Institute or the Shedd Aquarium.
Haven't been there since I visited Wrigley a couple of years ago. The sales tax is ridiculous, I don't feel safe taking the El anymore, and I just don't want to give any money to sustain Rahm's cesspool anymore. I'm already supporting the smaller one to the north.

I would like to think I am consistent, and most of the time I believe I can defend my positions on things.

The kid who punched out his girlfriend should be in prison. And the announcer who wished him well on national tv, and got pissy with people after the fact, when he was harping about second chances? Probably too old and senile to work on live tv anymore.

Very similar to Chicago but somewhere else. This bunch of wyld black yutes had kidnapped an old white lady and stole her car. They stuffed her in the trunk of the car and then went cruising around town. The thugs even showed off their captive white woman to others whom never called the police. You literally have to dig through a maze to find the lender for a FAFSA loan. And they don't give the parents any right to figure it out so the parent is left to try and convince the young person in the abstract what is happening vis a vis compounding of interest on DEBT THAT IS NOT BEING SERVICED. And the young person can't grasp it in the abstract. But a monthly statement that is showing the interest accumulate and the balance get BIGGER would not be abstract.
My oldest took on debt to finish because he had to take classes twice and I pay for them once. He graduated 6 months ago and has never seen a piece of paper from the lender advising his obligation. This is done by DESIGN because as I stated, the loan can't be walked on. So the best most profitable thing for the lender to do is HIDE. And that shit needs to be reformed by CONGRESS.

I only mentioned it because the media has made it sound like he just walked up and punched some innocent flower of womanhood, when in fact, it was a woman with a known history of trouble. He was attacked and he hit back. As for the other men in prison and him getting special treatment, maybe that's fair, but, because of them, we are supposed to throw away another man when we don't have to do so?

There would be incredible blowback for them if Hillary won, just not worth putting everything on the line for the hope Trump wins.
Also, countries that gather information this way don;t tend to "dump it" to the media in large dumps. State actors tend to hold things back and are more cautious.
So I'm sure all sorts of hacking went on, but I tend to think someone on the inside is chiefly responsible, and the Left is simply using this opportunity to delegitimize Trump and blame Russia.

It is amazing the number of individuals who I interact personally with on a weekly basis.
Many of them black.

I think that if it is true, then Putin would want America bickering over election results, looking inward instead of outward, allowing space for Putin to operate in Eastern Europe.
I also think it's a safe calculation that nothing more than sanctions would have come up had Putin done it and Hillary won.
Just because there's bluster coming from Democrats doesn't mean that they will actually try to use any kind of serious force against Russia.
I think it was a relatively safe bet on Putin's part.

I just don't buy that countries want to insert themselves in domestic politics this way, had Hillary won (just 1% of the Rust Belt flipping) you would have had the Administration doing everything it could to ratchet up pressure on Russia on every front. Before this, Putin and Obama were actually pretty chummy, remember the hot mic picking up how Obama was going to dismantle missile shields after the election.
That's a lot of risk for the possible upside being people disgruntled over election results that places Russia in the center.
I'm open to anything, but to me this is sort of like the whole Sony hack, I think it was insiders, but our brilliant intelligence community said it was North Korea.

I guess I can see why - when I was a kid I was shocked to find out that the US is majority Protestant - because there were many more Catholics in my neighborhood. I didn't know that my neighborhood was not representative of the entire country.
Growing up in the hood, you can see why they think they're more numerous than they are. Especially since they are not exactly the types to look up what the actual stats say.

I understand the personal opinion on this, but you know that's not how it works.
If someone comes at you, there IS a legal standard that says you have the right to defend yourself WITH EQUAL FORCE to protect yourself. That's self-defense.
If there is a lethal threat? You have the right to defend, up to and including killing the other person.
He would have a hard time defending his actions here, because he towered over her, she flailed at him a bit, and he hauled back and punched her square in the face, knocking her head into the edge of a table.
People die from situations like that. All the time. And EVERY time, it matters not who the starter was, if you kill somebody (or in this case seriously injure... which she was), YOU are the one who has to justify your actions.
In this case, I can not imagine an impartial jury not concluding he was guilty of felonious assault.
But football hero, so... let's give him a second chance.

But yes - we agree he would likely go down at trial. IMHO the size and sex difference will bias the jury so much that unless you packed it full of very autistic engineers there's no way dude wouldn't get convicted of something
