Most Presidents, including McFailyWorseThanCarter *waves at Kurt Schlichter*, are concerned about their legacies and blah blah blah. I don't think Trump is. Trump's already built his legacy, you can tell, what with his name plastered all over it all over the world. So what does he have to lose by trying to keep his promises? He's not the product of any political party and he's not beholden to any political party. He's 70. He's got the hot younger wife and the beautiful kids who are taking over the business and he's got the grandkids. He's cemented his legacy like that now. So why not? Why not try the truly paradigm breaking tactic of trying to keep his campaign promises? He has nothing to lose. Posted by: alexthechick - Darth Victory Tits at January 03, 2017 04:42 PM (mf5HN) 95

86 That's because Trump hasn't yet proposed taxing overseas wire transfers to Mexico, a more important source of income for Mexico than the petroleum industry. If he agrees not to tax such transfers, and only to deport criminal aliens, then the Mexicans will probably lunge for their checkbook to keep the dosh coming.

Problem is, there are so many billions and trillions that corporations have been sidelining in an effort to avoid all the shit the JEF tried to stack on them the last 8 years. Trump knows that. Talking about over regulation, A friend was forced to change his exhaust system at his pizza place because he was "polluting the air".
It cost him a ton of money, and when the inspectors came out to check, and he passed the inspection he told them to get the fcuk out. They said "you can't talk to us like that". What annoyed me in the 80s was all the sad blues songs by bands like Simply Red (great band, stupid politics) moaning how hard things were and how tough it was to get a job. Meanwhile I, a poor person, was actually finally able to find work because of Ronald Reagan's economy.

GM has a manufacturing plant in Mexico that make the Cruze for both overseas and US distribution. Trump is making an issue of the autos getting shipped into the US. He has never made an issue of US companies locating plants in other countries to make products for sale outside the US. If GM gets those Cruzes for the US, made in the US, Trump will be happy. And Mexico is going to want companies like GM to continue to locate factories that make products for non-USA destinations in Mexico. Mexico will not be nationalizing anything. Posted by: Anon Y. It takes skill to not break a die or a multi slide at the speeds they run at, or to keep a roller mill running, or to program and operate a cnc, or just about everything else in modern manufacturing. One of our problems is a lack of people to do that, and one of the reasons that manufacturing left is that they could be more profitable with low skilled, BARELY paid people in foreign countries running at 15% of the efficiency that modern mfg processes entail. As I get older, I realize that anything done well 1) looks easy but 2) is much more difficult to do well than you think. So never look down your nose at someone doing what may be thought of as a menial job. If they pay someone to do it, it's important. If it's important enough to pay for, it's being done well. Here is Carol Wayne appearing on Johnny Carson in 1984 promoting her new movie. Sadly, she died a year later. In January 1985, Wayne and a companion, Edward Durston were vacationing at the Las Hadas Resort in Manzanillo, Colima, Mexico. After they had an argument, Wayne reportedly took a walk on the beach. Three days later a local fisherman found Wayne's body in the shallow bay. An autopsy performed in Mexico revealed no signs of drugs or alcohol in her body. Her death was ruled "accidental". 207 The thing is, low skill jobs are good. There's nothing wrong with low skill labor; its a good, honest profession. We need guys scraping gum off the sidewalk even more than we need lawyers. Mike Rowe goes on and on about this, about how people are getting too arrogant and self-important to do work. That work is beneath me, minces the American. No, its not. Its good work, and we should honor and praise the people that do it.
Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at January 03, 2017 05:10 PM (39g3+) That is kinda of a myth Mike Rowe puts out there. The UDA has been deindustrialiazed on purpose and nowhere is it more evident than rural areas and small towns which make up most of America. Fact is people are hurting so bad that they cannot even afford to move or a car to get to and from work. Not to mention that it used to be the job of a skilled tradesman to train apprentices and now people have to go into debt just to get a certificate before even getting on the job training, which they usually wind up paying for as well. He also ignores the forced displacement of American Workers by cheap foreign workers. But hey, it makes one hell of a show, marketing pitch, and we'll paid speeches to tell Americans that they are parading up dirty work. Fits the narrative as well. There's a notable portion of the USA in our culture that doesn't want to work, doesn't like work, and feels that they shouldn't have to work. That they should lay at home and get stuff for free. Takin' the bus to that welfare office once a month is work, muthaf***a
How big that portion is, I don't know. I fear its 30% and growing. Those people will never praise a great economy, because their lifestyle is indifferent to the economy, save for the jealousy they feel for those who work hard and earn money to do things and buy things they cannot. Another portion is the leftist idealogue who believes that wealth comes from injustice, that those who have necessarily took from those who have not (somehow) and thus a booming economy is simply unjust and tyrannical. For those people a good economy means the government is not doing the work of social justice, and thus people are suffering. How big that segment is and how much it overlaps with the previous I don't know either. Maybe 20%, with a very loud voice. >>>Machinists are the opposite definition of unskilled.
I don't know that that's true. I will say that not every one can do it, and it takes certain innate traits that have little to do with intelligence or anything else but the ability to do a little math and learn what a machine or tool can or can not do. Some very intelligent people can not learn that. I've met some dumb SOBs that could machine a gnat's pubic hairs to a perfect five-oclock shadow...... 343. That's true, as well. I think it's a shame more people don't try different gigs when they're starting out. There's no real way of knowing what you're good at and what you like otherwise.

330 Monsoons are a seasonal variation in wind patterns. We have a "monsoon" season in the deserts of the Southwest US. Posted by: L, Elle at January 03, 2017 05:46 PM (6IPEM) Blanco's right. Monsoons are here in the US as well, but called by different names, if memory serves. As to hurricanes, in the Pacific and Asia they're called typhoons. Posted by: IllTemperedCur at January 03, 2017 05:57 PM (LuZz8) 351

remember, if things go really well under Trump for the next couple of years, there will be plenty of left wing airheads who will keep reminding us that "Obama laid the groundwork for all this progress!"
Yeah. No. It doesn't take 8 years to "lay groundwork". ------ Amazingly, it all took off on November 9, 2016!!! I wonder what happened the day before? Posted by: rd at January 03, 2017 05:59 PM (iT57s) 354
One thing I have noticed in working in civilian life is people who get away at work doing as little as possible or people who are paid in accidents or layoffs quickly learn to keep on doinb it.

Skilled labor or unskilled labor, anybody willing to
work, pay taxes and their fair share, and support their family is okay in my book. If anything can be considered a problem or failure here, it's management failing to train people eager to move up life and in the world. Yes it is. All I'm saying is that it's not actually difficult if you are already born inclined to it. And I can't stress that enough. Everyone has innate abilities that just need a little time to blossom. I'm a shitty landscape painter. Not my gig. NEXT! Wish people got a chance to explore themselves more.
