I like this one as well
Caravaggio often used himself as model within this work, and one particularly interesting piece, in which he perhaps understood the end he was ultimately destined for, he did a painting of David with the head of Goliath and he used his own portrait for the severed and screaming head of Goliath. http://tinyurl.com/hy4eulg Posted by: RWC - Team BOHICA at December 22, 2016 09:48 AM (2x9LM) 9

Thanks, CBD. Another extraordinary work by Caravaggio. The lighting which concentrates the viewer's attention, the detail in the features and cloth, the way his hands seem to touch those of the reflection, all of these combine to create an image and sense of quiet contemplation and adoration by Narcissus. What subdued power.
I find it interesting that Caravaggio doesn't make the reflected image as vibrant as the real Narcissus, something he could have done. The darkness of the water's image points to the essential wrongness of the event and the fact that the man (any man) sees what he wants, not what is. I'm so tempted to point out how this painting could stand for some Millennials and other young people. But I won't. Posted by: JTB at December 22, 2016 09:56 AM (V+03K) 23

I find it interesting that Caravaggio doesn't make the reflected image as vibrant as the real Narcissus, something he could have done. The darkness of the water's image points to the essential wrongness of the event and the fact that the man (any man) sees what he wants, not what is.
It's not just less vibrant, the reflection is different. I see the puddle Narcissus with a beard and eyes either closed or gone. Is he seeing himself dead? This reflection is not gazing back at him adoringly. Posted by: Bandersnatch, gentleman cad at December 22, 2016 10:21 AM (mgbwf) 108

Caravaggio often used himself as model within this work, and one
particularly interesting piece, in which he perhaps understood the end he was ultimately destined for, he did a painting of David with the head of Goliath and he used his own portrait for the severed and screaming head of Goliath. Looking at Caravaggio's several paintings of severed heads - it looks to me like he did that more than once; his face is recognizable on almost all of the severed heads. Never heard of such a thing but it would be fascinating. Imagine seeing something like "The Night Watch" not just cleaned but as it was when first displayed. I think there's a whole lotta "can't get there from here" in both the OP and JTB's notion of reproducing original color. Major assumption is in lighting being constant. Photos have the obvious challenge of either the film's or digital sensor's color balance. "Fresh" and original paint would likely look different under modern lighting versus period lighting (which would probably be predominantly daytime sky through a window). Then, there's your monitor. Does it faithfully reproduce color? It's a significant challenge and today causes much heartache when choosing fabrics and paint from a web store. In line with how colors can vary on different sites, I learned that lighting an image can make a HUGE difference when viewing the original. Mrs. JTB and I have each had several photos displayed in exhibitions. Watching the exhibition being put up and lights arranged, I was able to see how angles and intensity of light made an image look different, more so than I would have thought possible.
Some years ago I attended an exhibit of paintings by Robert Bateman, the world famous wildlife artist. Now this was someone who had seen his works displayed all over the planet. Even he said he had never seen his paintings look so good because of the care used in lighting them at that exhibit. Remember, the feminazi's gave almost no credit nor even mentioned Conway being the first woman to successfully run a presidential campaign. Instead, they sneered at her for saying her children were her priority and that she thought she did not want a role in the administration. Caravaggio was a troubled yout' who liked drunken brawls & sword fights! He disappeared & was likely murdered. Painting was something he did when he needed beer money... OK, wine money. A lot of what we know about him comes from the police blotter. He almost certainly used that technique (charo oscura or something?) in which mirrors are used to project an image onto the canvass. The newspaper story I read suggested her husband (Jared) dropped her and the kids at the airport and walked inside the terminal with them, but was not on the flight.
The harrasser saw the Kushner/Trump families (she was also bringing along some of her brothers kids, or maybe in kaws?) as they arrived in the flight waiting area, and it was then the couple tweeted their intent to go after Ivanka and the kids. Posted by: MTF at December 22, 2016 12:40 PM (X4ZNp) 745
So Jared was also on there? Why didn't he step up defend Ivanka?
--- Well if there's a TMZ guy following you around that may or may not be filming at any given moment, slugging a guy on a plane is a quick way to a multi-million dollar 'undisclosed' settlement. May not be worth it if the airline is willing to take care of the problem. Posted by: Methos at December 22, 2016 12:40 PM (3Liv/) 746

Speaking of Melania in Trump Tower. Did you see that story about the low flying military planes over NYC? Well, they let the cat out of the bag. They were scoping out possible emergency evac procedures if they had to get Trump out of Trump Tower fast.
They were figuring out the closest spot they could land a chopper. And maybe have a AC-130 gunship to provide covering fire if necessary. So I'm sure if Melania has to be bugged out, they've got that covered. Posted by: publius (not Breitbart publius) at December 22, 2016 12:42 PM (DW+jj) 755

*** One of the things that have happened over the last 10 years or so is that the left has built a pretty effective shadow organization to do things like this - or organize flash riot mobs, to release people's personal information, etc. I wonder if Trump will actually do something about that? Good thing they were on JetBlue. Zod Airlines stewardesses have been instructed to address the unruly passenger, offer a drink, reach forward to embrace, deploy sleeve-sheathed Fairbairn-Sykes and insert to the hilt, just under the back left rib, spitting the right ventricle. Clinch for a count of ten, then return the passenger to the seated position.

That was 25 years ago or so.
