Early Morning Headline-less Thread

So...J.J. Sefton is off in the wilds....communing with nature. Probably snow camping and living off the land.

Talk amongst yourselves, because I have nothing for you.

Oh, and...Hillary Clinton Will Never Be President Of The United States Of America.

22 SC jury finds Charleston shooter guilty on all counts. Hopefully the federal judge will give him the death penalty. If not, I am sure the SC trial judge will. This was an unnecessary trial and actually in violation of the federal hate crimes law which he was charged under. Hate crime murder is only supposed to be used when local authorities are not pursuing the case. See 18USC249 "certification requirement". This is pure Obama showboating for Democrat election purposes. Frankly I am surprised that his lawyers did not challenge the federal jurisdiction in this case. But, then again, they get paid huge sums anyway at taxpayer's expense so what do they care.

See my comments about the hate crime law. The feds should not have brought that trial. In any case, the courts have ruled in the past that it is not double jeopardy for the feds to charge a person despite being charged by the State as well. See Rodney King police federal trial despite being found innocent in State court.

76 Krebs, we have an annual "Camp Alaska" way up here in NW Ohio. Scouts have to attend four meetings worth of winter survival training before they are "allowed" to participate. Extra patch if it gets below zero -- you know scouting's all about patch collecting, right? -- and they are crestfallen if they don't get it. It is a very popular event. Nobody's died yet.

"Klondike Derby," a day of winter events with cabin camping, was a big deal for about 50 years, but seems to be going away now.

Paul Siple, the explorer scout who went with Adm Byrd, was from here.

82 The Fake News story is fake news. Here's the template: Create a meme that 'explains' something without any evidence. Publish meme in social media or online to get people to talk about recently invented meme. After enough people start discussing, all with information-free opinions, move the story to the 'legitimate' section of the paper/magazine/broadcast. Ask unemployed 'experts' to weigh in and publicize them heavily if they support the meme, suppress them if they don't. Take a poll to add another layer of fake credibility. Use your media sledgehammer to smash anyone with the temerity to point out the whole thing is fake. Repeat until the meme appears as real as Mount Rushmore.

93 The feds should not have brought that trial. In any case, the courts have ruled in the past that it is not double jeopardy for the feds to charge a person despite being charged by the State as well. See Rodney King police federal trial despite being found innocent in State court.

Posted by: Vic We Have No Party at December 16, 2016 07:25 AM (mpXpK)

I understand the Feds will charge the same or similar crimes AFTER a state trial, especially if found not guilty. In this case, the Feds got their murder conviction before the state even tried Roof for anything. I just don't see how SC can now try him for murder, a death penalty offense in SC. But with the murder conviction, would SC even bother going to trial at all?

102 Disappointed to find the charter school I got my sons into is still infect with PC garbage and brainwashing. Christmas presentation last night conspicuously avoided any songs that might be considered religious, mostly playing in the snow type stuff. However there was a Kwanzaa song. Not even the public school we recently escaped bothered with Kwanzaa last couple years, I thought is was dead.

Still too much of environmental alarm-ism and 2nd grade project History of Georgia presentation focused almost entirely on Creek and Cherokee culture and Trail of Tears. Georgia founder Oglethorpe was reluctantly mentioned, but mostly as a colonizer that as kind of mean to the natives. And they are always worried about accommodating and attracting Hispanics (i.e illegals), who no doubt will come in droves once enough freebies and bilingual and translation services are set up.

Still it is far better than the local public schools and I am glad my kids are there. I guess the school is still mostly run by white liberals or maybe state standards mandate this garbage. But where can you go to escape it escape it? I've heard many secular private schools are just as bad. Are Catholic schools full of this PC garbage as well?

It's not so much hate. More like religious zealotry that expresses itself as hatred and despair when they don't get their way, since that is a refutation of their whole religious system on which they center their life. Hillary losing impacts them like the Kabaa crumbling to rubble would impact a Muslim.

But it was good. It was really good. Rogue 1 was significantly darker than of the other Star Wars movies, the characters were complex and yes, the imperals were unambiguously evil, but the rebels weren't unambiguously good. It showed a different side of Star Wars that we haven't gotten to see in any of the other movies.

It was basically exactly the movie I hoped it'd be. And it's a complete movie. None of the issues with TFA in that it left a bunch of holes open to be explained in the sequel.

230 Although Russia had nothing to do with the emails released through Wikileaks, Trump, all his supporters and everyone else should issue a statement that if they did, they deserve thanks.

Every country with the means has and will continue to hack into our computers for information.

That is what they do. It's a perfectly legitimate activity for a government.

It is what we do. We have agencies dedicated to doing exactly this same thing hacking every other government on earth. We need to do this. It provides information.

If we discover, during our hacking, evidence of corruption in a foreign government, whether it is an ally or foe, the noble thing to do is to expose it.

Let the people of the country where corruption is found be aware of what is happening. Shine the light of truth and let them sort it out.

That is what happened with these emails that show the DNC was rigging the primary against Bernie.

No national secrets were exposed. No covert agents outed. Only information about a political party cheating the people they claim to serve.

There is talk about "punishing" Russia for hacking, although the evidence points to a Bernie supporter in the DNC. Let's make it clear to any country hacking us that if they exposing cheating and corruption, they are doing us a favor.

It's a war movie set in the Star Wars universe. I don't want to spoil anything major, but don't go in thinking that you're going to get the same generic Disney/Marvel action movie with the Good Guys overcoming all the odds and winning.

The musical score was weak by comparison to the others, and some people have complained that the first half went slowly, but I thought it set up the climax very well.

But yeah, it's a different kind of Star Wars.

Each patrol was given a live rabbit with instructions on how to kill it. A big sergeant took one out of a cage and in a quick action snapped its neck.

"He killed the bunny rabbit!"

Later, having burnt ours to a crisp we buried it. Then the rains came and the melted snow flowed into the tents. Finally the soldiers decided that frozen boy sprouts would be bad and they led our soggy frozen bodies into a cabin and gave us dry sleeping bags. --Fun was had by all!

The Left has never really gotten what makes us tick. We want to be left alone to do our own thing, and live in a country that doesn't ask a lot of us while providing security.

They crave absolute power. We'd abolish central power altogether if we could be rid of it and still have a functional society. It simply doesn't compute to them, it would be like our reaction to dumping a truck load of gold bars into an active volcanic vent.

This whole charade could be ended quickly. "House Republicans question the actual existence of a CIA published assessment on Russian hacking intervention in the 2016 election. No formal assessment has been forthcoming. We have requested the serial numbers of a) any CIA-produced intelligence assessments that claim Russian intervention and discuss Russian motives, or b) serial numbers of any raw traffic that might result in such an assessment. These serials are to be turned over to cleared members of the House Intel Committee to confirm--without revealing the contents of such assessments or traffic--that an assessment does, in fact, exist. Further, we require confirmation that any assessment, if it does exist, was coordinated through the IC in accordance with standard procedure, and identification of any nonconcurrences."

331 But it is becoming obvious what the strategy is. The left is going to do whatever they can to try and make Trump look like an illegitimate President and cut his support just like they did with Bush.

At least two things are different this go-round:

Trump is not an "above the fray" gentleman like Dubya. He'll hit back and hit hard.

As well, while we knew the MFM was biased during Bush's time in office, they still managed to have the barest of "objective" fig leaves covering their mishes. Now we know they are colluding with the Dems to destroy Trump and that will not only solidify his support among his base, it will continue to drive the MFM into a well-deserved obscurity.

And, a third thought - Bush wouldn't fight back, which angered those of us who wanted him to and kept us muted in our attacks on the left. Trump will bitchslap the left and I think that will encourage more on our side - like Carlson - to punch back twice as hard, as a certain dog-eating crackhead once opined.

Going for tea now. BBL.

IIRC, it was the NY police who retrieved the laptop while investigating Weiner sexting a minor. They started reviewing the contents and decided to involve the FBI. Lizzy, it really was. It got so that I'd be dreading the fall, because I would wonder what was going to happen this year.

During the sniper time, I took my kids for the day out to Front Royal to the Shenandoah Caverns. I felt safe for the first time that fall, just getting out of the area.

Of course I drove out and back on 66. That was the day they shot someone at the gas station in Manassas, right where 234 meets 66. Turns out I went by there just two hours before that happened.

.
.
.I have the Cabelas brand pellet smoker and I love it. Cheaper than Propane and you actually get some smoke. Temperature control is very good and you can get extra racks to do jerky in it.

The back does get hotter than the front when doing low temp stuff like jerky and smoked salmon so that is something to watch for.

I have never used it as a grill so I don't know how good that part works.

You do have to have electricity to use it to auger the pellets in. Cleanup is a breeze and there is very little ash.

Then Malvo gave that prison interview to the WashPost a few years ago where he said that he and Mohammed argued over whether or not to shoot a pregnant woman as part of their 'shoot so many diff targets the profilers heads will explode' strategy. The can both rot in hell.

I don't have a Traeger but i do have a wood pellet grill/smoker.

Hands down this is one of the best buys that I've ever made.

Yours will probably be too if you grill or smoke often.

The temperature control is excellent esp if you use a bluetooth meat thermometer with it.

With almost zero practice, you soon be cooking perfect brisket (yes, perfect!), perfect ribs, etc.

Speaking as someone who has been on anti-depressants and then not, my opinion is that the unmedicated personality is the "true" one. The medicated personality is true, as well, but the - for lack of a better phrase - irritants and agonies are muted. The medicated person is probably a better companion, but the one suffering with depression is the one they are at bottom and always will be.

Which is also worded awkwardly, but I hope you understand what I meant.

Best sex you've ever had, and all kinds of fun like talking her out of the bathroom and getting phone calls any and all the time. Work, sleep, doesn't matter. But the sex, remember, so you'll tolerate it. And then you'll regret it a little and wonder if you should quit, but the sex is freaking great.
Then, when she calls it quits with you and you're sort of relieved (except for the sex), you'll still get all the phone calls at all the same time because you were decent and treated her great and knew how to fix things. But now there's no sex, so it gets bad when you tell her no.

Real bad. Do-you-have-any-rabbits-and-a-stockpot bad.

But did I mention the sex?

471 OT- Anybody have or use a Traeger wood pellet grill/smoker? Like it? Not? Comments?
How about electric smokers?
Posted by: Muldoon at December 16, 2016 09:02 AM

I have a Traeger, and am impressed. In fact, it's pretty much become my go-to grill. (For context, I have a Weber, a Sabre, a Kamado, and 2 Weber LSM smokers.) I don't remember the model name, but it has a double bottom, which helps with temp retention/stability. Costco has them.

It does a whole chicken like nobody's business. Put it on, come back ~70 minutes later, and it's not only perfectly done, it's the juiciest/moistest I've ever seen.

It only goes to 450 dF, so you can't get a true sear on a steak, but they come out nicely browned and juicy. ~ 8 minutes a side for med rare. (I'm not sure even chemjeff could screw this up.)

There are better pellet grills out there, but you'll spend 2.n more to get one.

There are better pellets than Traeger's, but Traeger's are relatively available, and ok. (I've moved on, but you have to order in ~500 lb. quantities (20 bags).)

I'm not a fan of electric smokers. Take a look at the Weber Little Smokey Mountain cookers. A number of people on the BBQ circuit use them.

485 In re Star Wars: The White Menace
Faithless and turncoat screenwriters are nothing new. Many times, after a movie has been finished, a screenwriter has gone public with a claim that there is a Hidden Message in there. Always, always a left-wing message.

Usually they have the decency common sense to wait a year or ten.
Examples are High Noon, pretty clearly it seemed to me an allegory about US foreign policy during the early Cold War, later not only claimed but actually taught in college as All About the McCarthyism; and,

Ben Hur and its supposed "homoerotic subtext" that made President Charlton Heston laugh out loud.

So, sure, Rogue One is all things to all people, except, you shot your wad too early and now millions won't be paying you, dipshit. #Criticism

It's also dubious. The Empire was always *human* supremacist, which is why the introduction of Thrawn was such a big deal, but it's not like white men were the only villains in the galaxy. The most diverse location, the Mos Eisley cantina was described as a hub of scum and villainy. Boba Fett was the only one of the mercs in ESB that was human (and we know from later dude's not white).

HN is a good film, despite it being commie trash, but RB is clearly superior, and worthy of repeated viewing. HN is kind of like Network in that it's important for a film fan to see it, but it pales on subsequent views.

503 So, Cindy Stower played her third match on Jeopardy! Thursday night. If you haven't seen the story, Cindy played her matches back in August while battling Stage IV colon cancer.

Story here, with a spoiler warning: http://www.sbnation.com/2016/12/15/13966950/cindy-stowell-jeopardy-contestant-cancer-charity

Most patients on our cancer floors read her story in the news and tuned in Tuesday for her first game and cheered her on through a well-played game. She finished Double (round 2) with a decent lead and was the only player to answer the Final question correctly, finishing with $22,801 as champion, knocking off seven-game champion Tim Aten. Watch it here: https://youtu.be/239dmb88X_8

Neither the studio audience nor her opponents knew her secret, but we all knew who we were rooting for. She's thin, and shy, with a small voice, and not altogether steady at the podium. She was remarkably still, jaw clenched and controlled smile, and she seemed to make few unnecessary motions. The giveaways of soimeone hiding pain. All of our staff and most of the patients flinched everytime she cringed. Turns out she was fighting a high fever, and no doubt playing on heavy-duty painkillers. Not enough, in the nurses' judgment.

Wednesday, she faced two new challengers. Patient TVs were moved into corridors and lounges so that everyone was cheering as long, twisty groups, and the walls were overloaded with "We (heart) Cindy" posters hand made by patients from pediatric oncology (with elegantly restrained amounts of glitter). A DVR replay at 6:30 helped newcomers catch up with Tuesday's game. Cindy won in a close fight, adding $8,199 for a two-day total of $31,000. See it here: https://youtu.be/HykSF72o9SY

Thursday, I got to watch with the kids, who added many more posters to their domain for game three. Lecture hall big-screen projectors were borrowed. Wheelchairs and beds were rolled into the biggest space available, and 20 individual battles took second place to one shared objective. Someone called it junior D Day. If you haven't seen the game, skip directly down to the next comment, because spoilers follow.

When it was revealed in the contestant chat that Cindy's job is writing homework questions for online college courses, one very young kid shouted "I want homework!" The older kids kindly did not beat the crap out of the little troublemaker.

Cindy played an okay game, but was in third place for Final Jeopardy, answering first in the category NYC TV. I used to live in the city, and knew that Madison Avenue was two blocks east of Sixth Avenue, which made the correct question. obvious. A TV series that good parents probably never let small children watch. (I did learn that one star had once appeared on Sesame Street in a much cleaned-up parody. Ha!) I was the first to shout it out, so the kids knew to cheer when Cindy revealed a corect response. A modest wager left her with $8,600, still trailing. But both challengers guessed incorrectly, losing enough money that Cindy won handily, leaping from third to first on the Final clue. Her three-day total: $39,600. The game isn't posted yet, but search in YouTube for Jeopardy 12/16 (or 12-15) if you're curious.

And tune in tonight for Cindy's fourth game. 7pm Eastern on Channel 6 here, but check your local listings. The show does a remarkable job of keeping a lid on spoilers, so anything might happen. I'm hoping the shorties end the week on a high note. At the very least, they'll be treated to a pregame choir of doctors and nurses performing an appropriate Al Yankovic song.

I'm not saying don't do it, but you probably shouldn't do it. Look at it as being kind to the lady you will settle down with later since it will completely screw up your understanding of "good" sex from then on. Not to mention the phone calls or surprise "in the neighborhood" visits may never stop, and it's tough to build a relationship with the woman you want to marry when those little inconveniences keep popping up.

I will say that was extremely nice of her to inform you ahead of time, though. Most guys have to figure it out after they've already fallen into the trap.

507 Chris (not Rock), re your search for a Levi's replacement:

I too wore 501s forever, until I reached an age when low-slung jeans were no longer comfortable or appropriate. I've found Wrangler jeans have a higher rise, bigger and better pockets front and back, and never have that twisted-leg-seams issue that Levis do. The Wrangler original 13MWZ (iirc) jeans are made of 14+oz fabric, last forever, and are cut even higher in back - they're designed for riding, after all, and plumber's cleavage is no prettier on horseback than on the jobsite (unless it's a "she" who's showing). The regular Wranglers available at WalMart are a steal at around $20, too. I buy mine at Savers, a local thrift store, for $5-9 per pair, and they're already broken-in and finished shrinking. If you're used to a button-fly, be careful with your new jeans.
