30 Days Hath November ONT
Well, it's that time of year again. No matter how much it seems like just yesterday it was spring, tomorrow is December 1st.
I rather like Christmastime. It may seem silly and old fashioned to people of the more cynical sort, but I enjoy the Christmas spirit. For me it usually kicks in about the second or third week of December and it makes everything brighter. And yes, unless I happen to know that someone is of a different faith, everyone gets a cheery “Merry Christmas” from me. You can take that happy holidays crap and shove it up your....chimney.

One thing I really miss is caroling. I can't carry a tune in a wheelbarrow, but I used to love caroling when I was a kid, especially on a snowy night. Nobody wants to do it anymore, I've tried. Well, nobody I know anyhow. It's a shame. Friendship, laughter, joy, peace on Earth and goodwill towards men, followed by hot cocoa or a nip of something stronger...good times, good times. This is my favorite Christmas carol, it literally brings tears to my eyes.
The clips from The Nativity Story are just great. I wish I could sing like that, I truly do.

On the way out to the sea, Ye Olde Pub passed a German airfield. Lt. Franz Stigler, a Luftwaffe fighter pilot just in from shooting down two B-17s, saw Ye Olde Pub limp by. Naturally, he scrambled to give chase. But what he saw arrested any aggression he may have had. As he told interviewers in 1991, he was aghast at the amount of damage the bomber had sustained. Its nose cone was missing, it had several gaping holes in the fuselage. He could see crew members giving first aid to the wounded, and most of the plane’s guns hung limp, unmanned as they were. “I saw his gunner lying in the back profusely bleeding….. so, I couldn’t shoot. I tried to get him to land in Germany and he didn’t react at all. So, I figured, well, turn him to Sweden, because his airplane was so shot up; I never saw anything flying so shot up.”

First, I'm not the go-to guy on AR/CA legal stuff. CalGuns.net forums are probably your best bet - though there they may still be (with reason) saying it's too early to say exactly how the "assault weapon" regs will be written, so it's too early to know exactly what's what.
You mentioned the grip. As I intend to build two "feature-less" ARs (under current CA law), I have looked into that a bit (i.e. alternatives to pistol grips).
My current solution is the FRS grip, made by a company up in NorCal (easy to look them up). It's a tubular equivalent of a traditional rifle stock. Actually was able to handle on at a shooting match a few weeks ago - I liked it.
If I manage to get around to building mine before Sacramento signals it's next round of idiocy, I'm going with the FRS stock.

It was acapella, and had a very barbershop quartet feel to it, so I've always enjoyed it.

I just finished reading the book about the B-17/Me-262 incident - "A Higher Call" - last night!
Recommend. It's a fun quick read. And the collateral stuff about the German (Franz Stigler) and his Luftwaffe career is very interesting.
Some might note I've been salting my comments with tidbits from this book the last few days.

I was thinking about putting poinsettias at the entrance too but then I'll have to drive water down there to water them.
But that would look pretty.

I've been re-watching the West Wing lately. The West Wing, a tv show about a Democratic administration, written and produced by wildly liberal people.
And, watching it now, it feels like I am watching Reagan compared to what the Left is like now.
Some of the themes and dialogue are things a liberal would NEVER say now, and not only that but they would probably excoriate a conservative saying the exact same things liberals said 10 years ago.
It's amazing where the world is compared to 10-15 years ago.

Fill a box with things they can't get wherever they are-favorite candy bars and cake/cookie mixes, Trader Joe's goodies, Virginia peanuts, and if they are in the sandbox, a smithfield ham. We got one in Kuwait, and it was pure heaven. Hubby and I hosted Christmas the first year the embassy reopened, and served that ham, along with turkeys the military gave us-one of my colleagues was gnawing the bone after dinner.
Plus-you don't have to wrap anything. Just the box-with brown paper, if that's still a thing for the post office.

Since there are only the two of us, there's not a lot to wrap, but my pattern is set. Early dinner, then five o'clock Service of Lessons and Carols at Church, then back home. I move to the guest bedroom armed with paper, tape, ribbon, tags, and a heavily fortified eggnog.
Presents wrapped, they go under the tree. Then, at 11:30, it's off to Church again for the Midnight Service. Back home, nothing to do but put out milk and a cookie for Santa. Mrs. Hammer chides me for that, but it's always gone in the morning.

I use bags for the adults gifts but I wrap the kids gifts. My grandmother wrapped really well, so does my mother. She makes the handmade bows.
The first few I wrap look great then I get tired of doing it and it goes downhill from there.
One of my friends is OCD and lines up the pattern on the back of the box she's wrapping. It's insane and I doubt anyone notices.

Lead made for brighter colors, for those colors for which it was suitable, anyway. For your barn, plain old red oxide barn paint is probably the best bet. Sort of a pigmented stain, goes well on weathered wood. My 100-year old barn still has red barn paint on it.

After 11 embassies, I can tell you- ghiradelli chocolate chips were the best things anyone could send me-commissaries didn't stock them, and they make the best chocolate chip cookies. Also, new release videos-because AFRTS is all you get, and the movies in Europe are all dubbed. (GB being the notable exception) We also LOVED silly things like Little Debbie stuff-especially the holiday treats-the kids would take them to school and be exceedingly popular. And in the Middle East, goya ham seasoning was a true Godsend.
Funny, looking back, at the stuff we treasured. Granted, we were in crapholes, except for Poland, so that might explain our tastes!

Christmastime is my jam. I am the lord king of carolling and Christmas spirit. I love singing and I love all kinds of Christmas singing and if it's worth singing at Christmas, I've sung it. I sang the solo for Vince Gill's "Let There be Peace on Earth" when I was still a soprano. I've sung Benjamin Britten and 'Betelehemu' and Irving Berlin and the Ukrainian Bell Carol and Poverty, which is the best Christmas carol you've never heard of. I banged the girl who got the solo for Once In Royal David's City at my school's Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols. I know 'O Come All Ye Faithful' better in Latin than I do in English and whether your arrangement of Adam Lay Ybounden is in the actual middle English or a bastardization but that doesn't mean I'm too good for Holly Jolly Christmas. I am singing "In the Bleak Midwinter" and "White Christmas" in two weekends at a very nice restaurant, by request, and I'm pitching in for 'Mary Did You Know' even though that's tacky because I have great respect for the Virgin Mother as a result of an out of body experience I had the first time I ever sang Hadley's "I Sing of a Maiden."
If you cannot get down with Christmas music then fuck you for real, and if you can then gather round with the nog and take the melody on this next verse, I've got you.

As I said above I recommend the book on the Brown/Stigler incident (A Higher Call). It's written in a popular style (one reason I read it now, a palate-cleanser/lazy book between two detailed somewhat scholarly tomes on WWII).
And I've added two bios of Adolf Galland to my library "for later" list. From Stigler's account in the book, quite a character. Was supposedly hours from shooting himself when the Gestapo chief himself called him and told him Hitler ordered him not to shoot himself (he'd been hounded and marked for execution by Goering).
Also, according to Stigler, he had a plan to defect/surrender with his entire squadron of Me-262s and his band of "black sheep" fighter pilots - a plan that failed to materialize only because Galland's intermediary was shot down while shuttling between the sides arranging the details.

Not a disaster, but missed opportunity.
Trump could really use some help on foreign policy - not to know what he wants or thinks, but how to get there - and I don't see Mitt as having near the background for this. Nor would he likely bring a strong team in that regard.
We'll know soon enough.
And for SecDef, someone who would break lots of china on reversing the social engineering in the armed forces would be best. Also, someone who might try to push for matching strategy and resources (i.e., shrink the US defense posture significantly).

That stock replaces the pistol grip. It has a traditional rifle stock "pistol grip" curved section instead (as you'd find on any of your rifles or shotguns). It's fixed length, so that takes care of another "featureless" check box.
But note: this ridiculous game of musical chairs with CA gun laws is not over. Best to not invest too much $$$ in any "workaround" or solution, yet.

I mean...this doesn't bother me. It's federally subsidized housing. Meaning, I am in part, paying for it.
If these folks need subsidized housing, maybe they shouldn't be spending their money on cigarettes, no? But, maybe that is too judgmental.
But...cigarette burns and smoke are a very real thing, and cost a fortune to get out of carpets, woodwork, etc. If I am paying for it, I don't mind putting stipulations on it.

I know Jesus is regarded as the manifestation of both God and humanity on earth. I know there's a process for canonizing mortal people as saints for their piety and acts on earth. But the Saint Michael's prayer just came to mind and I realized... hey, dude's a flippin' archangel. A celestial being, but with the title of 'saint'. My Dad's best buddy's name was Charlie Brown. It is a fairly common occurrence, I believe. Charlie died last year, at the age of 80 something, so he was clearly named before either incident, the pilot or the cartoon. He also bore an uncanny resemblance to my Dad, and they were running buddies. Charlie is the one who dared Dad to run Mt. Marathon and had him take up mountain running when he was in his 70's.
I mean, really, Charles and Brown? Not too uncommon.

A saint is a person who is in heaven. That is the definition. The Church recognizes people who have fought the good fight and shown heroic piety or faith, or martyrs for the faith, but the assumption is that there are many millions more who are in heaven but are not specifically named as such.
Angels and Archangels are not people--they are spirits without bodies--but the Church uses "saint" as shorthand to say that these are the angels who behold Jesus at all times in heaven. Not truly saints at all, but it works.
Jesus? He is God Almighty, one person of the Trinity, and both God and Man at the same time. Different category altogether. He made heaven, so of course he can come and go as he pleases. The Church has never had to recognize that Jesus fought the good fight--he created the fight in the first place.
So, no, Jesus is not a saint. He is God. That's better.

The FRS stock checks two boxes: fixed length stock, and no pistol grip.
Other options are a MonsterMan grip (which you will not like), and some similar things where you slip a sort of wing-like addition over the pistol grip, which prevents you from wrapping your thumb around it. Which you will also probably not like.
Go to thordencustoms-dot-com and check out the FRS.
And if you have access to local AR owners, find one/some who have opted for one of these workarounds and handle them to see what you think.

I had a student who ran into a string of bad luck, culminating with her car getting hit. This was interfering with her ability to come to class.
I had the means and willingness to help her out by lending her my car, but figured I'd better run this idea past my supervisor first. Of course, my supervisor could see the potential problems with this and advised me not to help in this manner. (Please don't misunderstand: my supervisor is a decent person who sympathizes with the charitable impulse. In education there are a lot of do's and don't's that aren't immediately apparent to me, so I'm glad she was able to steer me around the pitfall.)
Anyway, the reason I couldn't help out is because we can no longer trust in the good will of others. The leftist state has cultivated dependence on government and discouraged interdependence in our families and communities.

We were at our gun guys house and he was showing us the new things to replace the pistol style grip. He told us the market will improve and there will be more choices hopefully soon.
I'm familiar with the rifle, I'm known for saying things incorrectly. If you were in front of me I'd be waving my hands around so you'd know what I was talking about.
I also got to pet his trophy lion and leopards (2). And the scariest one was a huge Cape buffalo, he said he was 40 yards when he shot that. That thing was huge.

Your gun guy is right. Even if they're responding to stupid, artificial things like idiotic gun laws, "the markets" are ingenious at finding solutions.
Most of the new/newish/prospective gimmick's I'm aware of concern the bullet button and related issues, not stocks or grips, but I'm not following closely these days.
Anyway based on handling one recently I think you might like the FRS stock. It's close to a regular rifle stock, just tubular and futuristic-looking. And it checks both the pistol grip and collapsible stock boxes on the CA list.

That's why we were at the gun guys house. He's a FFL guy.
He was showing us the options. He said locking the part that collapses permanently will fix that. My husband was there he may explain it differently than I do. He also said the suppressor was no big deal, its changing the handle grip part. He's anticipating more options coming on the market soon to meet the demand.

They're surprisingly decent. If I lived in NYC I'd never bother with them, but out here, I can think of one local place that can do a decent pizza, and Domino's matches them pretty well. Hawaii, of all places, had an awesome pizza shop with the thin floppy crust, fold your slice and drain off 4oz of orange grease kind of pizza. It was off Kam Highway, maybe Aiea or Pearl City.

Yeah, but I think it's just one more regulation on the books that they can't enforce. You can't just kick people out of housing without going through a court eviction process. It's a useless law that accomplishes nothing.
I do understand how you feel. I've had pan-handlers come up to me in the grocery store parking lot and ask for money while smoking $5 a pack cigarettes. I manage not to laugh in their faces.

In the early days of the 8th Air Force when the fighter units like the 56th, that would become known as Zemke's Wolfpack, were flying razorback P-47 Thunderbolts.
One of these early hops the unit got into a fight with a bunch of Focke Wulf FW-190s and Robert Johnson, who would become one of the 56th's top scoring aces, well his kite got smashed badly. Cannon holes peppering the fuselage and the big mighty Pratt+Whitney R-2800 possibly missing a cylinder or two but still turning the propeller. So Johnson turned for England trying to nurse his wounded plane back to base. And then he looked outside his cockpit to see an FW-190 on his wing. The other pilot looked the P-47 over, looked at Johnson, and then pulled away. Johnson made it back safely.

I know there are still Gatti's open in Texas...Amarillo, Abilene, and Dallas-Fort Worth. There's one in Oklahoma City, too. Most of them have the huge TV rooms playing cartoons and even larger arcades. The pizza is average at the OKC location.

Did it once. Like so much else, a nice but weird partial "cultural appropriation" of American customs, in this case Christmas.
New Year's is great. We actually rang the bell at a big Kyoto temple at midnight (a traiditional thing few Japanese have actually done), after enjoying the insane bustle of the Nishiki market during the day. Then on New Year's Day we walked around Kobe and enjoyed people outside making traditional mochi by hand the old-fashioned way.

Think I've also read about a P-47 that absorbed all of an Bf-109's ammo, and not unusually kept on ticking. German pilot pulled up, looked over shook his head and smiled, saluted, and flew off. At least that's what I recall reading.
Once joked with a guy of the appropriate vintage who was wearing a P-47 hat, that I hope he was never shot down in "the flying tank". He smiled and said, in fact, he had been!
Feb. or March '45. He said an oil line got nicked. He bailed out, was unhurt (and taken prisoner by regular military, fortunately), and placed in one of the Luftstalags making up the complex where the "Great Escape" camp was located. He said he got lots of grief from the long-time POWs - when he got there, the Americans weren't far away, Fritz was everyone's friend, and the Red Cross packages were all being distributed vigorously.

Just as there are a couple FW-190s out there flying that are new builds with Russian engines in them. The air museum owned by one of the Microsoft guys has an actual FW-190A that was recovered from Russia that still flies with its original BMW-801. Another museum in Arizona has an authentic FW-190D-9 that if they wanted to could fly it but it is so rare a plane all they occasionally do is crank its Jumo 213 engine.

My father was an armorer in the 56th. Although he was wounded in an air raid (which later caused him to become disabled), after VE Day he volunteered to be a gunner on B-29s over Japan but Hiroshima and Nagasaki prevented that.

And recently the problem was intensified when they did some experiments that confirmed the Big Bang lithium production calculations. They were able to get energies high enough, then measure how much lithium "condensed", and it agreed with the predictions.
However, the amount of lithium out there is about 3-4 times smaller than that. And this is Cosmic Lithium problem. What happened to the Lithium. They were wondering if the experiment would should error in the predictions, and maybe help them figure it out, but nope.

Someone at the company thought associating KFC with an American holiday was a good idea - since Japanese then (and now) have an unusual propensity to imitate (or generally follow, in their own way) American cultural features and trends.
It worked. I think someone said you have to reserve your KFC order before Christmas if you're getting it that day. At least in the busiest markets.

Reflexes: Back in my teens I did a lot of babysitting. One time I was watching a baby, probably six months old, and I needed to get something in the kitchen. I set her on the counter, which I knew was a bad idea, but I stood right in front of her to keep her from falling. I turned the upper half of my body to the left to get something, turned back and realized the baby wasn't on the counter. I could not comprehend how she could have fallen while I was standing right in front of her, and I also wondered why I hadn't heard her crying. I looked to the right and there she was in mid-air. Actually, the Cal. Supreme Court overturned Prop. 20, which was a statutory version of Prop. 8 (Prop. 8 being a state Constitutional amendment).
The Cal. Supreme Court said that now that Prop. 8 was in the Constitution, banning Gay marriage was no longer (state) unconstitutional.
A similar thing happened with the death penalty in the '70's, which is why California is the only state which includes the death penalty as part of its Bill/Declaration of Rights.

I almost included this story in the WWII section. Johnson's jug had hundreds of holes in it when he landed. The German pilot looked at Johnson and slowly shook his head in wonder before pealing off and heading home. I love the jug. I know he Mustang was a "better" fighter, but give me a P-47 anyday. There wasn't a P-51 built that could take half the punishment of a Thunderbolt and keep flying.

If my husband wanted to sleep in separate rooms that's a deal breaker. It would never happen.
When he has drank too much he'll sleep on the couch until maybe 3 then come to bed. He snores really bad and I can't fall asleep. This is only when I haven't drank with him.
He usually falls asleep on the couch in those instances so I just cover him with blankets.

I don't know, but I know DC really wasn't happy when Frank Miller had the Dark Knight (as in Returns) fighting Bin Laden. Which is why the comic got released as an indy title staring a hero who totally wasn't Batman...just looked a lot the same without the pointy ears.
And as a cosmic irony, the comic was written just before Seal Team 6 punched Bin Laden's ticket so even Bin Laden had to be changed.
The comic is called Holy Terror...and it is about as crazy as it sounds as Frank Miller lived not terribly far from the destruction of 9/11 and took it very, very personally. Which is probably (his take, not this comic) why leftists have taken to hating his current work as he does not pull punches toward leftest ideas. Unlike Marvel and DC.

If you read the very stupid article, it gets finessed. The stupid theory is that the 14th amendment overrides the stuff in the main constitution as far as the electoral college. Of course, the 14th doesn't say anything like that, but there have been SCOTUS interpretations of the 14th and the one man, one vote line. He will also be home at Christmas for like 2 weeks, and she won't be with him then, either.
Does this seem odd to anyone? I'm not married, obviously, but I've always seen on TV these couples that don't want to spend even one night apart.

The Cal. Supreme Court said that now that Prop. 8 was in the Constitution, banning Gay marriage was no longer (state) unconstitutional.
A similar thing happened with the death penalty in the '70's, which is why California is the only state which includes the death penalty as part of its Bill/Declaration of Rights.

Apparently there were two stories from that time, one of mercy, another of chivalry. In one, a Soviet pilot's plane was ablaze, and his canopy stuck. Steinhoff pulled up along-side; apparently as things got very bad the Soviet pilot gestured for Steinhoff to finish off his plane and prevent him from burning to death - Steinhoff saluted and complied.
Another time Steinhoff pulled up next to a Soviet plane he had shot up badly and motioned for the pilot to bail out, instead of just finishing it off. The pilot bailed out to safety.
Ironically Steinhoff himself was badly burned in a take-off crash in an Me-262 just weeks before the surrender - though he survived and went on to serve in the West German air force.

I can't imagine spending that kind of time away from the man I love, and that applied after 8 years. So, I say it's a very bad sign. But of course, some people have very strange ideas of what marriage is all about.

Well, if they have been together for a long time, and were living together for a while before marriage, spending time apart might not signal anything bad.
Also.. if she hates his family and/or he hates her family, this could be a good compromise.
Finally, he may not want to her to work over the holiday season, and she may have no choice due to finances. So this plan might work for them.

The problem being two-fold. First the SCOTUS usurpation of so much legislative power, second the disappearance of integrity and seriousness by the entire "liberal" segment of the judicial community (the shameless assertion of absurdities, the complete departure from language and common sense).
First problem COULD be dealt with - in your dreams. That is, where there's a remotely serious Congress willing to act. Second problem - I dunno. It's akin to establishing integrity in a Third World police force that's always been run by raw power, corruption, and bribery. Where do you start?

The cousin I talked about last night...the newly married one.
He came home for Thanksgiving for like a week, but his wife didn't come with him, as she had to work and wanted to stay with her family.
He will also be home at Christmas for like 2 weeks, and she won't be with him then, either.
Does this seem odd to anyone? I'm not married, obviously, but I've always seen on TV these couples that don't want to spend even one night apart.

I get irked when people re-print those old "Soviets amazed at American supermarkets" lectures. Yes, there is food there. I'm glad. But, as this Kellogg thing is going to make clear (as did the Campbell thing last year), we have a lot of soviet-style One Big Factories here. That was due to the true tech breakthrough of the last quarter of the 20th century, Mergers and Acquisitions. You try to avoid doing business with just one big multi-national, or, as happens once in a while, they stop doing business with you, and you quickly find yourself at farmers' markets and roadside stands, and splitting a side of beef with a buddy from work. OK as far as it goes, but not the great shining city on the hill, is it. We live in a fragile economy.

Fascinating Christmas Carol Trivia
The Song "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" is nowadays considered one of the most beautiful and upbeat of all secular Christmas carols. Even though it was composed fairly recently in Christmas Carol History (1944, for the movie "Meet Me in St. Louis), it almost immediately became a "classic" and by Christmas of 1945 was already being sung alongside all the other classics.
HOWEVER...(and here's the interesting part) ... the original lyrics to the song were MISERABLE and DEPRESSING, described by those who saw them as "sounding like a suicide note."
Here's what happened:
The original script for "Meet Me in St. Louis" revolved exclusively around the notion that the family was going to be forced to move to New York unwillingly, leaving their beloved St. Louis behind. It was this plot that was told to composer Hugh Martin, who was then instructed to write some songs around it.
However, later script changes relegated the "move to New York" aspect to be more of a minor plot point -- the revised script focused more on the World's Fair in St. Louis.
But crazily, none of this was communicated to Hugh Martin, who dutifully wrote songs and lyrics about how depressed people would be if they were forced to move to New York.
So he turned in his songs to the director, and some of them -- "Merry Little Christmas" in particular -- were gloomy and depressive. For example, the first line of the original lyrics went,
"Have yourself a merry little Christmas
It may be your last.
Next year we may
all be living in the past."
When Judy Garland was given these lyrics to sing, she downright refused, thinking the implication was that all the characters in the film would soon be dead. She insisted that the lyrics be fundamentally changed to be cheerful.
So Hugh Martin rewrote them, but here and there a few morose and melancholy lines snuck through. But she was satisfied with the changes and sang them anyway, turning it into a classic.
It was these first-generation rewrittern lyrics that were sung as a Christmas carol between 1945 and 1956.
But in '57 Frank Sinatra wanted to do a cover version, and he too was still bothered by some of the residual gloominess in the lyrics, and he requested a second rewrite, removing almost all trace of sadness.
That 1957 version also was a big hit, and it is those second-generation rewritten lyrics that are the ones still sung today!
In all fairness, But Judy Garland and Frank Sinatra should get some kind of partial songwriting credit, because without them, the song would now be a forgotten depressing "musical suicide note"!

He had a hit "Merry Christmas, Baby" way back like maybe in the 1950's.
He was a large black man, I loved him. I mean, we were friends. He was a very devout Christian (even though his songs usually had a ribald character) and I think he was gay. But, none of my business.
He used to tour along with Dorothy Donegan, a black, classically trained, stride left hand, blues pianists. Sometimes they would do a 2 piano act, and it was a thing for the ages. Hysterically funny. They had a local bassist name of Wyatt "Bull" Ruther. Bull never played with an amp, but he would put his bass on a plywood box in order to increase the natural resonance. The three of them were something else.
Anyway, last time I saw Charles we were sharing a dressing room and getting in to our tuxes. Charles looks at me and says, "Son, Satan is running wild all over this land".
That was the last time I saw him. He died the next month.

You're welcome. So much so, that I'll now add a Bonus Trivia Fact about the song:
The composer, Hugh Martin, later became a born-again Christian, and mentioned in an interview many decades later that in the original-original version the lyrics went
"through the years, we
all will be together
if the Lord allows"
but Vincent Minelli (the director of Meet Me in St. Louis) didn't want any actual religious sentiment in the lyrics, and as part of the rewrite forced Martin to change it to "if the fates allow," a change which always bothered the composer. So in 1990 he re-re-rewrote it YET AGAIN and restored "if the Lord allows" to the words. And heck, it's his song, so he has the full right to do so! A Christian rock group then released a version of the song with the "Lord" line restored, but incorporated into the Garland/Sinatra lyrics! So now there are FOUR DIFFERENT VERSIONS of the song, all valid!

I would think very hard before I started making any assumptions about holding any power for more than a year or two. America is way too flaky to have any lasting faith in the electorate and the GOP are still a bowlful of turds. Nothing has been fixed, yet. Not even close. There is a long, long, long way to go to even start to mend some of the damage that Barky and the collaborationist Vichy GOP have done - and there's a lot that was done that you will find is irreparable.
Be happy that Trump won the election and have some faith that he will put a good team together. But I wouldn't go much farther than that. This nation is going to need some mega-growth just to be able to outrun this debt bomb ... and we still have the fed unwinding its balance sheet (which it must do) to deal with.
Tempered enthusiasm is the call of the day and any ruminations about holding power for more than a couple of years ought to be laid aside.

On the Kansas City BBQ story. I think that is an old story from last year. But it doesn't hurt to remind the voters that a vote for regulatory Fascist has consequences. Our over-regulated society has become more and more Fascist since the early 1900s. And yes, Fascism is a method of socialism in which you get to keep your property but the government tells you how to run every aspect of it.
But we also need to remind the voters that THEY put these Fascists into power so they can have a nice big bite of their shit sandwich.

No, it is because the insurance commison who approves rates in SC is made up of insurance people and the requirement tom have insurance is only loosely enforced so there are a LOT of uninsured motorists out there. A lot of my former coworkers moved here from NC to work. Some of them kept their car registered in NC to avoid the high property taxes on cars and high insurance rates even though that is technically illegal.
So like health insurance, the high rates are because of government interference and lawyers.

This is the main reason for the circling of he da of print media, with talking air-head media not far behind as well as the rise of alternative media. I think Trump will be, for better or worse, the first truly 'social media' president, using Twatter, Farcebook and YouBoob to go around the media to get his message out, as well as to criticize the media for their failings. It will be interesting to see what happens.

It is already REALLY bad. I grew up in the 50s. I see a completely different USA now than what we had then. maybe that is the problem, too many people are too young and all that "scorn" the young are throwing at the boomers they despise so much who grew up in the 50s should be reflected at themselves who put the Fascists in power.

This is true. In 2002, after the GOP won the midterms, jubliant conservatives were writing the Democrat Party's obit. Jubliant Dems did the same thing to the GOP in 2008. Just a few short months ago, the conventional wisdom was that the GOP was headed off the cliff and the Dems would control the federal government for - well forever, once they pushed amnesty through.
Remember, Trump went up against the GOPe as well as the Dems. Have all those backstabbers changed their spots in a month? There will be powerful pressure on him to maintain the status quo.
Realistically, he's going to have to cut deals with them in some areas in order to get what he wants in others. that's why I'm not too bent out of shape by McConnell's wife heading DOT. It'll make it harder for Turtle to openly fight with him.
Dismissing the Dems underestimates both the opposition Trump will face in his own party and the fierce, ruthless lust the Dems have for power.
