Have you heard of "Operation Pacifier"? The F.B.I.and the world of kiddie porn.

The FBI has a controversial new method of fighting child pornography: distributing child pornography. As part of "Operation Pacifier," the federal law-enforcement agency ran a dark-web child porn clearinghouse called The Playpen for two weeks, delivering malware to any site visitors, in a scheme that was revealed last summer. But it turns out that site may not have been the only dark-web site that the FBI maintained. According to documents obtained by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), the agency was actually authorized to takeover 23 child-pornography websites in addition to The Playpen.

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force on Sunday issued new guidance for the use of cholesterol-busting statin drugs. The report greatly expands the universe of people who should be screened to see if they need the medication to everyone over age 40 regardless of whether they have a history of cardiovascular disease.

The recommendations also support the position of the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association, which in 2013 radically shifted their advice from suggesting that doctors focus on the level of a patient’s low-density lipoproteins (LDL) or “bad cholesterol” to looking at a more comprehensive picture of risk based on things such as weight and blood pressure, as well as lifestyle factors.

“People with no signs, symptoms, or history of cardiovascular disease can still be at risk for having a heart attack or stroke,” said Kirsten Bibbins-Domingo, who chairs the task force.

Her amazing journey is called Expedition196 and she’s traveling as an Ambassador for Peace on behalf of the International Institute for Peace Through Tourism. We might not be able to follow in her footsteps, but we can at least follow her inspirational journey via Instagram. Go Cassandra!

Couldn't really celebrate the election victory for very long, as I lost my job last Thursday. That puts me in a bit of a tight spot if I don't find a new one in a hurry.

And then when I opened my mail box today, I discovered that I have a jury summons. I'm supposed to report on the 19th of next month. So now I have to either take the stupid thing right away and tell any potential employers, "Oh, by the way, if you hire me, then I might not be around for a bit because I've got jury duty." Or I have to put it off, and potentially have it come back and bite me at an even worse time later on.

This SUCKS.

BTW, I hope weed does cause to chest pain, especially to the f*cksticks who live above me. Almost every Monday they smoke a bunch of weed and the smell floods my apartment.

junior I'm really sorry-that is a raw deal.

report for jury duty, you have to and probably can't get out of it. Are you able to delay your job search until you go through the jury selection process? If so, do that, and when you are questions, say you are 100 percent in favor of the death penalty for jaywalking, and the defense will reject you. Then you can get to job searching without fear of jury service.

Take the stupid jury duty and get it over with. Take it from someone who postponed it the last 2 times and got picked, first for a 2 day housing court trial awarding an illegal alien 15k cash windfall for mouse poop on a technicality even though she didn't pay her subsidized rent for 3 years. And I nearly got picked a few months ago again in criminal court in a scary part of the city on a drug/stalking case, I got booted by the defense counsel at the lend of the day,. I think I looked like a very unsympathetic republican, stuck out like a sore thumb.

Don't bother telling the employer if you get the job.

There are only a few other worse times than right after you've started a new job.

If it pops up again at a worse time, that's where you tell the judge and ask to be excused.

I was registered to vote in Texas when we lived overseas, and when I was home on maternity evac, I got summoned. I was on bedrest, and called the courthouse to let them know, and they didn't believe me. So I got my doctor to call. No dice. I waddled up the morning I had to appear, 8 months pregnant, with pre eclampsia, and asked the judge for his name so I would know who to sue if anything happened to me or my baby. I have never been called for jury duty again.

I believe the law kicks in at the end of the year. Gov Moonbeam signed it into law over the summer. Semi-autos must be registered with the state or destroyed/turned in. As with previous CA assault weapons law, no transfers once registered.

111 @71 report for jury duty, you have to and probably can't get out of it. Are you able to delay your job search until you go through the jury selection process? If so, do that, and when you are questions, say you are 100 percent in favor of the death penalty for jaywalking, and the defense will reject you. Then you can get to job searching without fear of jury service.

My Dad is a retired prosecutor, and my brother is currently working as one. No defense attorney in their right mind is going to risk me on a jury.

But the last time I had to deal with jury selection, my group was sent off to the courtroom, I was the very last person in my group that got called into the box and questioned (seriously - they had to call in another group of prospective jurors because they'd run through everyone in my group), the attorneys ran through the questions, I volunteered the information I mentioned above *and* mentioned some additional items specific to the case that would tell any sane defense attorney to keep me off the jury, and the defense attorneys *STILL* didn't dismiss me from the jury until the next morning.

IIRC, that mess took three days.

119 Statins messed me up bad too. All my joints hurt. Hurt bad to climb ladders get in and out of car. I quit my job when it took too much out of me to make it to 4pm. About a year later I read online about ancedotal reports about statin induced pain. Since they were charging me $40 bucks/mo for the drug under COBRA I quit taking them without any malarky input from the doctors. In about 6 months effects started wearing off and now two+ years out I feel about 90%. grrrrr

They don't do that here in California. They used to allow certain things for automatic dismissal. But when they moved over to the "one day and done" system (which is only really done if you're not in a courtroom when the day ends) a couple of decades ago, they did away with that. You get one delay, and then unless you're deathly ill, that's it.

I wouldn't mind it, except that the timing just flat out SUCKS right now.

back at the turn of the century, i had insurance, for once, and went to go see a doc.

1st appt was p w*rk, so i rolled in from the hospital, and they said we need to take blood: when was the last time you ate?

since i w*rked OR AND LnD, it turned out that i had eaten only about 2 hours before, and lunch had been 2 CPK personal pizzas... red meat and cheese because pizza.

they were suitably horrified, bur said they would adjust and i might have to come back in for a fasting draw.

the only elevated level i had was "good" cholesterol, which annoyed HRH AND the docs, who were all ready to tell me to cut out red meat, etc...

fast forward to the VA this summer: all my lab values are in the dirt, except for good cholesterol.

you can't beat good genes. even my liver panel is unremarkable, which explains why i woke up half way through my scope, despite 125mcg of fentanyl and 5mg of midazolam...

and drove home afterward too.

I asked in the last thread, but if anyone could offer an opinion as
to whether an AR in Kallyfornia can never be transferred, but must be
destroyed or turned in to da cops, I'd appreciate it.

It can be sold out of state, by your local FFL to a receiving FFL, pretty much anywhere.

You can list it on Gunbroker, wait for the auction to run, collect the funds, take it to your FFL, who will ship it for a fee. CA just wants it to not exist in California, which an out of state sale will accomplish.

Preferably though, detail strip it down to parts, sell the lower receiver via Gunbroker, per above, and wait till you can get a....shall we say... different lower receiver, and re-assemble the thing.

The only thing with a serial number is that lower receiver. Sell it, and you've "sold" the whole thing, as far as registration is concerned.

80% lowers, and the jig or fixture on which to finish them, are vital supplies in my book.

Got just a tad bit rough.
From there taken out into the country side. Shown a map.
You are here. You have to make it to there without us catching you.
If we catch you, you go back to the camp.
Small group of us. Everyone tired. Some wanted to head straight for destination.
Talked em out of it. Took the long way around. It had to have taken at least 4 hours. Hills, valleys, woods and grassy fields.
But we made it.
The guys who got caught and sent back said it was worse the second time.

You don't ask until after you are hired. If it's not a government job, or something with gold-plated benefits, they are unlikely to offer jury duty pay. So, you wouldn't be taking time off. You would be asking them for a letter that lays out their policy regarding pay for jury duty, which you present to the court in a request to be excused for financial hardship.

They gave us parking waivers, although I walked in. We live a mile or so from the courts.

The reason jurors don't get paid much is to keep it from attracting people to do the duty to get paid. But seriously, its way too low, insanely so. At least a hundred bucks a day is reasonable.

253 I had jury duty last year. Some young punk public defender lawyer kept us there for 3 days questioning the jury pool before they even made a selection. Then once done, they just picked the first people in the pool anyway.

I think the judge had words with the kid. Toward the end, they kid said, "Ok, so let's ask a new set of questions..." The entire pool gave out an audible groan and the judge called for a recess. I think he told the kid that he was getting close to the entire pool deciding to convict his client out of spite.

They released us right after that recess. Except for the poor schmucks that got selected. Hell they might still be in that trial.

Once the law goes into effect, any ammo imports across the state line must go through an FFL. It kicks in at the end of 2017. Although, violation of the law is only an infraction.

Our community is one of these bullshit "active adult" things, no kids, everyone over 55, lots of ball courts, pools, a gym, bike paths, and I regularly party, club, and recreate with a generally nice crowd.

But now I have a dozen or more I regularly see and play with, or chat up at parties or events, who I know hate every bone in my body, if they knew.

Do I pretend I don't know?

Do I instead give them a smile and say, "hey, we won!"

Do I say, "fuck you?"

Or do I move to Wyoming.

This is the good time of year to go the Palm Springs area, unlikely to be cranked up to 11. Used to go every year over Thanksgiving.

There's golf, outlet shopping, couple higher end shopping areas, a bit of sightseeing, the Patton museum, a couple national-areas-full-of-weird-plants, feather-not-dot casinos of modest scale, more golf, if yr staying at a big resort probably swimming and some other stuff on site.

They say there is "chaos" and a "knife fight" going on inside Trump Tower, that they're talking all sissy and their shit's all retarded. Supposedly Bannon and Prince Reebus are in the knife fight over the Sec of State pick, with Prince Reebus wanting Bolton and Bannon wanting Giuliani.

First that makes no sense. Bolton is a no-brainer as SoS, and he's jizz your pants to me, and I think most of us Deplorables. I can't see Bannon losing his shit. They say the reason is Bannon thinks he's too establishment. Giuliani is the no brainer for AG, not SoS. That's not his bag.

And then more stories about how Trump and his people don't know what they're doing and all that.

Now, TCM has on a 1955 doc "Night and Fog". A brutally honest and stark 45mins documenting the Horrors of the concentration camps.

All three are horribly riveting an a poignant reminder of what power run amok is truly capable of.

I went to my optometrist today, a guy who has an IMDb listing, a guy who has called me his "science experiment" because it was his joy to give me perfect vision, I who have a -15 diopter correction with astigmatism.

Today he told me to deal with my floater, as it's an artifact of aging.

I am only 57.

I can't see to drive.

I only this month have seen my way clear to be able to afford an awesomely driveable car.

Too bad. Similar thing for me. I got the lasik done on just one eye, and kept my left eye undone for reading and such. About 5 years later I get a floater in my left eye.
Makes it difficult to read, especially in low light.
