Reason's Robby Soave: I Tried Telling My Confreres on the Left That Social Justice Warrioring Was Going to Produce a Trump-Shaped Backlash, But They Refused to Listen

They say every political memoir can be titled If Only They Had Listened to Me, but in this case, Soave would have a right to that title.

My liberal critics rolled their eyes when I complained about political correctness. I hope they see things a little more clearly now. The left sorted everyone into identity groups and then told the people in the poorly-educated-white-male identity group that that's the only bad one. It mocked the members of this group mercilessly. It punished them for not being woke enough. It called them racists. It said their video games were sexist. It deployed Lena Dunham to tell them how horrible they were. Lena Dunham!

I warned that political-correctness-run-amok and liberal overreach would lead to a counter-revolution if unchecked. That counter-revolution just happened.

There is a cost to depriving people of the freedom (in both the legal and social senses) to speak their mind. The presidency just went to the guy whose main qualification, according to his supporters, is that he isn't afraid to speak his.

Even when it comes to fantasy play -- like videogames -- the Thought Police were determined to hunt their quarries down and bring their scalps back wet and red.

As I've said: This Big Brother regime will yield to you no solace from their prying eyes and following footsteps.

They will even pursue you into realms of pure fantasy -- they will even hunt you down in your dreams.

Well, we can now say things like "Grab life by the pussy and never let go" again.

And that is, in fact, a victory worth celebrating.

And yes: The fact that you wouldn't even leave us alone in our daydreams and play is exactly #WhyYouGotTrump, you thought-patrolling Adult Baby monsters.

Enjoy the harvest you seeded.

25 Well that and peak baby killing.

I mean, let's get real here. They expected Charlie the coal miner to vote for a woman who wanted men to share a locker room with his wife and for kid grandbaby to be beheaded at 9 months gestation.

Even Obama wasn't idiotic enough to run on that bullshit. He, get this, *lied* when his own abortion extremism was revealed.

Not Hillary though. She stood on that stage and proudly defended stabbing full term babies in the neck.

I am SHOCKED that didn't play well in the heartland.

Posted by: Lauren at November 10, 2016 08:23 PM (8X6J9)

26 This is what I'm talking about. Soave basically accepts everything the progs are saying in order to make his point:

There's a related problem: the boy-who-cried-wolf situation. I was happy to see a few liberals, like Bill Maher, owning up to it. Maher admitted during a recent show that he was wrong to treat George Bush, Mitt Romney, and John McCain like they were apocalyptic threats to the nation: it robbed him of the ability to treat Trump more seriously. The left said McCain was a racist supported by racists, it said Romney was a racist supported by racists, but when an actually racist Republican came along - and racists cheered him - it had lost its ability to credibly make that accusation.

So it's just an undisputed fact that Trump is a racists. And naturally, we're all racists who voted for him.

Fcuk Soave was a rusty 9-iron. He can go pound sand.

There is a photo of Trump holding a rainbow flag at one of his rallies in which was written in black ink LGBT for Trump that was given to him.

You can't reason with those whose minds are made up. Or are in the first or second stage of Schoenhauer's saying on Truth, first it is ridiculed, then it is violently opposed, third it is accepted as universal.

We have two generations now who have been raised with the belief that gays, minorities, women, are all being persecuted , have far less opportunities, and those in the majority are guilty of causing that by their existence. Add in blaming capitalism, industry etc. So depending on their state of mind, they either are going to ridicule or many have gone into the violently opposed(that runs the gamut from demanding pizza shops be shut down and burned, to actually vandalizing buildings and beating people up)

This is highlighted in the quote above about Bill Maher..."when an actual racist comes along".

Denial of truth.

154 The thing about the so-called "poorly educated white" demographic(*) is that there aren't very many of them. If you believe exit polls, all voters with "high school or less" education level were only 18% of the electorate. And Trump only took 51% of them. (His percentage of white males in this demographic was higher, maybe in the 70 percent range? - I can't remember that specific number.)

(*) I hate the terms "uneducated" and "poorly educated," BTW - they're at once insulting and condescending. If you brought up "poorly educated black voters" as important to Barack Obama's success, for instance, you'd be pilloried for saying something so offensive.

So at first glance it's a little curious why people talk about Trump and the non-college white male demographic so much. My speculation is that because that group -- though very small in the total voters -- largely skewed Trump, pundits thought that if they painted him as the candidate of the prole class, status-conscious middle-class voters would reject him because they wouldn't want to be associated with the "typical Trump voter" portrayed in those caricatures.

I don't know about the 2016 Series either, but 1960 was the gold standard for that.

http://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/1960/YPS_1960.htm

The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the New York Yankees 4 games to 3.

The Pirates' four victories were by scores of 6-4, 3-2, 5-2, and 10-9.

The Yankees' three wins were by scores of 16-3, 10-0, and 12-0.

Romney was heavily criticized for saying that 47% would not vote for him. Rightfully

so. A good politician sees everyone as a potential ally. Obama attacked the rural

voters as clingers to guns and religion. Hillary called those same folks deplorables.

Since the conclusion of the election. the media has beaten the drum of racism,

misogyny, antisemitism, islamophobia, and homophobia. In other words, more insults

aimed at voters. At customers.

Is there really NO CONCEIVABLE reason to vote against Clinton or for Trump other than

the ad hominems being aimed at the voters?

I supported Donald Trump because my insurance has gone up over 100% in three years. I

supported Donald Trump because the government has weaponized the IRS. I supported Trump

because I believe we need a sustainable immigration policy that is inclusive of all

immigrants who want to come to the USA and does not favor one group over another. I

supported Trump because while I am in favor of free trade, I think we have done too

much too quickly and too many people are being put out of work too quickly for a

reasonable adaptation. I can go on.

I can assure you, however, that I did not support Trump because I am a misogynist,

racist, homophobic, anti-semitic, islamophobe.

You can certainly argue with me about the policy positions I have outlined above. I

welcome that. But when you start the conversation by calling me a racist or misogynist,

then I am not persuaded to listen to you or vote for your candidate.

That was Trump's off the cuff riffing going astray. When he said "poorly educated", it hit him that might sound offensive, that the poorly educated might take insult at being called that, so he said he loved 'em. I think one or both of his sons, Jr and/or Eric were with him, and they sort of looked at him briefly when that came out. Geez, Dad......

250 I'm totally ignorant of this milieu (ie. I don't play video games, haven't been on twitter since before #gamergate, never watched even 5 seconds of Lena Dunham), but is it really that hard to avoid the lefty Puritans?
Let's say you and your friends are discussing the latest game on twitter, and some letftards come on the thread and start harassing you because they deem the game promotes sexism and racism, etc. Can't you just block them? Ignore their accounts?

Is it that there are some popular accounts that gamers are drawn to, and liberals target these, so that they are truly unavoidable?

And I'd think there's nothing easier in the world than to avoid Lena Dunham. Just don't watch "Girls", or avoid reading whatever articles she publishes in the liberal rags and avoid looking at her naked cake photos on Pinterest or Etsy or whatever she uses.

I never got why "cyberbullying" was such a big deal when it's so easily avoidable. I'm not defending obnoxious bullies, but I'm not sure why it generates all the angst and pain that it does.

Maybe I'm just spoiled, hanging out here. Hector shows up once every few months after finding a new proxy, and then *poof*, he's gone in a few minutes.

Yes. Game journalism. If you want an update on the latest final fantasy game, you've got to wade through a pile of preening SJWing to get to it.

And if you're a developer trying to make a game, God help you if you don't have monitory representation. Even if your game is set in Bohemia circa 1100.

Van Gundy had only just begun, "It's just, we have said - and my daughters, the three of them - our society has said, 'No, we think you should be second-class citizens.

This is insufferably irritating, that it doesn't even occur to him to interact with the conservative point of view, namely that the Democrats want to do exactly what Merkel did, which is to turn women into second class citizens.
