Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | First Election ThreadWell from here on out it's just rumors, exit polls, spin, and watching to see who looks sad and who looks happy as they talk about those things. A few sources that will update as numbers come in: The New York Times map of poll closings. Very soon (7pm EST) is a very big one. Most of Florida (but not the Panhandle -- but that hasn't stopped networks from calling it early before!), Georgia, New Hampshire, Virginia. (Among other states whose outcome is less in doubt.) At 7:30 comes Ohio, North Carolina, and West Virginia. At 8:00 comes Maine, the rest of Florida (so a result might come in), and most east-of-the-Mississippi states except for important ones (WI, MI) in the upper Midwest. The WSJ will be updating as the night progresses. It should be noted that so far exit polls look bad for Trump -- better hope for that Shy Trump Voter effect.Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

As we left Ranchero Webworker this afternoon, we wondered whether to go vote first or go drop stuff at the office.
We decided to go to the office first, vote later. That proved a fortuitous choice: While cutting through Fatcat Estates on our way in, we saw a pretty doggie racing around in the street, trying to get killed. We stopped, hooked up our leash on her (much to the consternation of our own GoodBoy), checked her tags, and called the vet. While we are on the phone, a car pulls up. It's her master who was looking for her. Really nice dog, but as he said, not all that smart. Later, when we went in to vote, we ran into an old friend at the polling place and got the chance to chat and get caught up with her. So, again, our choice to vote later was fortuitous timing. We said we'd take it as positive signs. Like the Cubs winning. Posted by: mindful webworker - click here for silly election video at November 08, 2016 08:00 PM (5a8XA) 48

268 I popped over to the Decision Desk, and now I'm confused. Two states (Indiana & Kentucky) are reporting and Trump has 19 electoral; Hillary 0. When I look at the maps of the states, they both show Hillary well ahead.
What is going on? Posted by: Emmie Normal at November 08, 2016 08:20 PM (xVuS6) They have actual counts and also a lot of extrapolation based on statistics from previous years, knowing when votes from certain areas are due to come in. Trump will do well in the rural areas, which count quickly because the populations are small. If he performs similarly or better to Romney's totals there, for example, or Hillary underperforms Obama, they can predict he won, even if the actual votes counted don't represent that. I think 6 states will decide this, 3 big ones, and 3 little ones. The polls for these 6 are too close to call.
The big ones are FL, PA, and NC, of course. If Trump gets all three, he wins. If he loses one, he needs the little states. If he loses two, he's probably out of luck, unless the talk about MI and other places turns out to be real. If Trump loses FL, he needs ALL 3 little states: CO, NV, NH If Trump loses PA, he can still win with any 2 out of 3 of the little states. If Trump loses NC, a win in either CO or NV will do it. Two of the winning scenarios, BTW, result in a TIE. Which would send us into interesting territory - it goes to the House of Representatives (which is Republican). The polls tend to be biased against Trump, plus they don't count the "unlikely voters" who may prove to be a big deal for Trump (but that remains to be seen!!) So I tend to think in terms of "If the polls say it's about even, Trump has a pretty good chance of winning." I'm assuming AZ, GA, an IA go to Trump, while MI, MN, VA, and WI go to Hillary (although I hear that the inside scoop is that MI is a toss-up). Returns so far for FL have me really nervous. Maybe NC too. Posted by: Optimizer at November 08, 2016 08:27 PM (EnK/R) 350

Any woman willing to go to the lengths she did to cover up Benghazi and cover up her illegal servers and cover up her husband's rapes, and cover up her looting of her "foundation", is not above using whatever means necessary to "win" an election, by hook or by crook. They are now saying that GWB did not pull the lever for Clinton.
There goes every shred of respect that I ever had for the man. He could have at least simply pulled the lever for her instead of the pathetic indirect route. Gutless. Posted by: Drider at November 08, 2016 09:31 PM (6Xbsz) 1071
NYT gives Trump a 71% chance of winning Florida.

Why are there commercials for MSNBC election coverage on FOX Business News tonight?

GHWB and son let it ride all week that they were voting for Hillery then on the day of the election they clarify. CS on that.
They allow influence on the vote for Hillary in their name then back out on the day of the vote. Sounds like members of congress rigging their votes. Posted by: gNewt at November 08, 2016 09:45 PM (X8p7j) 1075

Thanks to the party for the burning tire pile of the rest of the candidates. Posted by: Rob Crawford at November 08, 2016 09:48 PM (fVubI) 1076

Posted by: southdakotaboy Trump up by a percent and a fraction with +91% of the vote counted. What's left to count? Trunks full of votes in Broward and Miami Dade counties. Has Janet Reno voted yet? Someone should attack Stuart Stevens with a chainsaw.

No, it's not 90% or 91% of the vote, it's 90-91% of the precincts.

Trump is just so, so declasse. Nobody of our class could vote for one of the Deplorables, such as that. ...sniff... Posted by: GHWB & GWB at November 08, 2016 10:28 PM (g6yUI) 1083
Refer to my #349, copied from 1st thread, before results.
Still right on track. At the moment, Trump has FL, NC, and NH, so if that holds, and PA and CO fail (as they appear to be doing so far) the NEVADA decides this election. Posted by: Optimizer at November 08, 2016 11:28 PM (EnK/R) Processing 0.12, elapsed 0.1394 seconds. |
