Good morning, kids. Well, after eight long years enduring the destruction/dismantling of everything we hold near and dear, this is it. Day Zero. There are those that think Donald Trump is going to win in a landslide, and there are those who predict just the opposite (see Ace from last night). One thing, at least from my perspective, is you fight for a cause not because you know you can win. You fight because you know it's the right thing to do, even though it's hopeless. Please don't infer from that last sentence my feelings about today's outcome. I have no idea and I'm scared to death. But whether this time tomorrow we are dipping our collective nads in the biggest vat of pudding in the known universe or, G-d forbid, enduring the unendurable the fight goes on. More importantly, life goes on. Take comfort and strength from family, friends, the good Lord above and the things that give you joy. You're a great bunch of people and what I wouldn't give to get you all in bar somewhere this evening, buying rounds of Val-U-Rite for the house. Now, let's win this thing.

The woman ahead of me either didn't read her ballot, hadn't voted before or was making up her mind in the booth because she took a long time. The woman who's a poll watcher for the past 30 years said turnout has never been this high this early for any election.

Same here in my reliably red NJ polling place. I'm usually done & out the door within 3 minutes, but today there were about a dozen people behind me - almost 20 minutes to wait. A poll watcher said the same thing to my wife - they've never seen it this busy this early.

One other thing I remember, apparently I do too.
I read a lot of analysis of turn out models, they all make a lot of sense. They fit the math part of my brain. But they also remind me of the things I was doing in 2012 that turnout out to be wrong. Obama got a turnout model I didn't expect.
Now to be fair, it is a pretty reasonable assumption that Hillary won't get Obama's turnout, but that isn't proven yet.
But there was one topic that no one mentioned last night anyway, Project Orca.
We talk about group game, and Dem's being good at it, and Trump not investing in it. But we forget that Romney had NO GOTV at all. Orca left tens of thousands of volunteers with no instructions on what to do on election day. And since Romney had centralized it, the local RNC offices couldn't fill in the gap and use the 72 hour plan Rove created.
I have no idea what the RNC is doing this year, but this has been one of their focus areas in the last 4 years. Orca cost Romney Florida and Ohio. Unless there is a big surprise among a subgroup (Hispanic maybe?) Trump should win those two. States that Obama won (like IA) are now firmly in Trump's hands.
Looking at the RCP averages Trump is sitting at 266. He could lose NV dropping him to 260. But Hillary has a lot of blue states she has to defend today. If she loses MI or PA the game is over. If she loses CO and NH Trump wins.
Bottom line is Clinton must hold 8 states. If she loses a small one, she needs to flip NV. If she loses a big one, she needs to flip NC.
Because there will be a GOTV this year, Trump will over perform Romney.
As far as I can see it, Clinton's only chances for a win that matches the national polls are huge over performance among hispanics or there being a larger than expected Nevertrump vote for her by Republicans.
But I'm using logic, and logic didn't serve me well in 2012. So YMMV.

What I learned from Richard Sherman's cheap shot at the end of the second half: Any time the other team's QB is flushed out of the pocket you should knock down all their receivers; apparently you can't maintain contact beyond five yards but it is perfectly ok to unload on them even when they don't expect it so long as you have previously released - so, anyone stopping on a button hook or a come back automatically gets undicked.
That the refs compounded their errors by causing a delay by standing over the ball until there was four seconds left on the play click tells me I also want to take my sweet time getting out on to the field when they "substitute" by bringing out the kicking team.
I don't care about either of those teams but I'd make sure Sherman woke up in the hospital the next day the next time I played them if I were the Bills.

The one intangible not in your analysis (maybe it is so apologies in advance) is the mood of the nation. When Jill Stein declares nuclear war if Hillary is president, then you know that there is a river of rage flowing in this nation; much of it righteous that we are being destroyed and some that the destruction is not further along.
It just doesn't add up that with Trump drawing massive crowds now for well over a year (and you have to spend half a day to travel and see the speech) that he's going to lose, especially by a wide margin.
This is why I can't see Hillary winning unless there is massive widespread fraud. I gotta be careful not to get excited but this one is going to be a shocker.

I think to sum up Trump is leading a group of very very pissed of voters, Romney wasn't.
Clinton is leading the Obama FSA, and she isn't Obama.

Any shame that his actions may cause me, I will bear for this future.

Couple of interesting tidbits...
Our GOP nominee is running against a perennial Dem candidate who is unemployed and homeless (not making that up.) Even the local fishwrap could not bring themselves to endorse him.
Also, one the incumbent GOP city council members remains on the ballot in spite of dying last Friday. Many of people here early voted for him before his passing, and there was no way to remove him from the ballot on such short notice. The local GOP said they would appoint his spot if he is re-elected.

I'm upstate, red district in a slightly blue county, and I have never seen my polling place anywhere close to as busy as it was this morning. Just packed. Usually (and I always vote early) I pull right in front of the firehall doors, and I'm in and out in a few minutes. Today you had to wait in a long line just to get into the parking lot. Folks were just giving up and parking alongside of the road and walking.
Every election I hope that we upstaters can overcome the downstate vote, and every time we don't even come close.

This is why I think they will try and steal Queens and perhaps Staten Island and a few sections of Brooklyn (Mike Grimm's old district). Trump has always been popular, at least with the blue collar set in NYC. At leaf he was before this election cycle.
The rational part of me says no way he wins NY state. But it's tantalizing to even speculate on a scintilla of a shot.

That's true is lots of stats...I live in a Republican upstate NY town, but California and other states have the same problem...Large cities just overwhelm small town America...One good thing in upstate NY, the big cities are loosing population, by the thousands every year.

I don't think Hillary would have won her first Senate race in 2002 except for Rudy Giuliani getting prostate cancer and withdrawing from the race. Rick Lazio had no chance against the carpetbagger from IL by way of AR. But Giuliani, at that time, was quite popular throughout the state, including NYC. On such small events swings the Fate of History because if the FAB had lost in 2002, we would not be sweating bullets today.

The conventional wisdom is long lines normally indicates strong Democrat turnout in NYC, and short lines means lack of enthusiasm for the Democrat candidate.
That said, considering the complete lack of enthusiasm for Oma Panzersuit, it could mean people taking a chance on Trump.

I don't think we'll stay up to watch the returns. I haven't done it past 9:00 PM for many years now ('92 may have been the last time). This election has torn off whatever shards of "impartial media" masks there were and to listen to them under any circumstances is infuriating to me.

I don't think Trump will take VA, but it will be a good showing. Certainly not ten or twelve points. If Trump were to win Virginia, it is because he is winning everywhere, and that is certainly not the sense of the polling.

My little corner of NoVA is majority Clinton/Kane signs. Maybe 2 Trump signs and 1 McMuffin. That said, not nearly as many signs as were for Obama in 2008 and 2012 and most of the homes in my hood that were vocally Obama have nothing.

About two to one voters want change, a high priority item. (Trump has some issues, but not such high priority for saving nation)
On this other vital question, "if they win, the political class and special interests win ... or lose" 65 to 35 think elite win if Hillary wins, including 40% of Democrats. With Trump 57 to 43% think the elite lose if Trump is elected.
So it is a major concern for everyone, and about two thirds see Trump as the one bringing the change. Then Pat brings up a Kentucky election where polling versus election showed a 15 point difference in favor of the "outsider". Keep in mind, they were roughly "wrong track" at 60% when Obama was reelected.

Got in about 5 minutes to 7 am, and had to stand in line for 30 minutes. This is a huge polling station, there are 6 precincts that vote here, and about 30 electronic voting machines. Literally 200 hundred people in front of me, but it moved fast.
It is all pretty much 21st century. There is a touch pad to sign in, that verifies who you are. Ohio has voter ID, so you have to show a picture ID to vote (driver's license).
The voting is all touch screen with a paper copy printout of your ballot.
It took about 3 minutes to vote, actually. The area I live in is predominantly Republican. The township and county offices (Delaware county) were a lot of Republicans running un-opposed.
Saw some friends/neighbors in line. One is a Democrat, the other a Republican. We are all friendly and civil to each other.
It is very heartening to see so many people out and standing in line to vote. Whatever the outcome (subliminal message: Trump wins!), this was a great campaign year, and we got a very CLEAR CHOICE.

Heh-same here. My lib sis posted a lengthy Facebook screed this morning about how she's worked too long and too hard (she's a very successful businesswoman) to let someone like Trump "silence" and "demean" her accomplishments.
I love my sis and am very proud of her success. But she's a typical limousine Liberal who has never really understood or had empathy for those less successful than her. Just because she feels that the government can take wads of her money and spend it however she wants (and she can afford to feel that way) she thinks everyone should.
My sis grew up in the same working class house as I did. I don't know when she became such a snob.

Trump has campaigned tirelessly. For a 70 year old man, he has been nothing short of tremendous.
There is a lot of enthusiasm for him, and a lot of people really loathe Hillary Clinton.
I just don't see her pulling in the votes. A close friend who is a Hillary supporter was giving me some friendly shit, but I just don't see her carrying Ohio. And that's all I really know about.
Even without that moob Kasich supporting him, Trump has a lot of enthusiasm from the grassroots.

A woman, let's say "of age", very elegant, with GOTV stickers in script on her dress top told me that her group had raked over the rolls three times for turnout and it was very frustrating. She wanted to go to the coastal plain to help out there. My read was that she was a hard-core Hillary gal and everyone voting Dem had already voted in the Early Voting.

I live in a conservative-ish little enclave in the Albany suburbs. Still lots of dems all around us. This year I saw a good many Trump signs out and about, and only one Hill sign. I only saw one Hill bumper sticker all season. For reference, I saw lots of Obama signs and stickers the last two elections. Take that for what it's worth.
Went to polling place first thing at 6am. Usually not too busy, but there were actually about a dozen people in line. Which is weird that early.My vote is null here in blue NY, but still. Trump seems to be pretty popular upstate here, and I'm led to believe that culturally and politically upstate NY is more linked to OH and PA than the NYC.God, I wish we could saw NYC off and let it float away.

I'm proud to have thrown my vote down for Mr. Trump, even if it is in vain, I would rather fight for a lost cause and go down swinging than to acquiesce to the supposed inevitable.
I will not allow myself optimism. I was optimistic in 2012(2008 was another story), I believed that we would go back to a more sensible way and the American people would see the obvious. The results crushed me, and I don't want to feel that again.
All that said, I don't think a victory is impossible. There is a great discontent in this nation. A large amount of people are aware just how bad it is, and how it could get much worse. I will not hope outright, but perhaps I will not yet fall to the depths of despair, either. America can yet be made great again, even if it is an uphill battle.

I think the enthusiasm gap is massive and if my few leftist friends are to be believed, many on the Communist side are holding their nose to vote for The Most Corrupt Woman in History. Hopefully that's enough.
If not, demographics is destiny. Just imagine the whole nation as California and you'll get the picture. Get your ammo and your long guns while you still can.

Eagles, coyotes? On my way back from voting, I saw probably 80 vultures occupying two adjacent trees by the side of a country road, with more arriving every minute. They seemed to be just hanging out, and there was no dead animal anywhere near - certainly not anything big enough to feed them all.
I'm in Staunton, VA (Shenandoah valley) and voting was much heavier than usual. Probably 100 people in front of me when I got there around 9:30, and it took 20+ minutes in all. I was voter 842. Staunton is 1/8 black (just like the U.S.) and votes around 50-50, but my precinct is almost certainly whiter and probably more Democratic than most here. Whether that translates into a Clinton win in Staunton I'm not sure. (Surrounding Augusta County will go Trump by a huge margin.) A church near the church I vote in had a huge array of Trump signs in the parking lot. What does it all mean? I don't know. Just offering a data point.
Most interesting thing: I voted 'yes' on a constitutional amendment bringing Right to Work (= no closed-shop forced unionization) to Virginia. I thought we already had that, but apparently not. Wonder if having Trump on the ballot will help it win.

If you think someone might try to blow a place up with a truck-bomb, a row of dump trucks, especially if they're fully loaded, is one of the few easily-built barriers a truck loaded with explosives can't get through.
