I think Michelangelo adored the male form (in an aesthetic sense although possibly/probably in the sexual sense). It isn't so much that he renders the female form badly; he doesn't. It's just that no one before or since has represented the male form so beautifully.
I recently bought a book on Rennaissance terra cotta sculptures, most of which were studies by the masters before they did the pieces full-size in marble. These had the feel of casual pieces, quickly executed sketches in the round. No one can touch Michelangelo in terms of beauty of form. No one.

Anecdotal - Here in one of the towns in Ozaukee County (one of the WOW's) and the place was packed at a much higher level than it was in 2012. Now it could be that the same people decided to all vote first thing this time, but lines were snaking all around the gym trying to fit as many in. Lots of people laughing about how crazy it was there. (470 voter just just our 2 ward area in this town never been that high before)
Hopefully the WOW county voters do get into that booth and if not doing it happily, grudgingly vote Trump in the numbers it would take to shock here in our State.
We'll see...

The Commssiar-ette and I voted this morning with our little Comrades in tow. Our polling place is in an area with both traditionally conservative and liberal constituencies. Turn out was steady but the lines weren't out the door. In fact, we were in and out quickly! The family and I also passed a polling place in a traditionally "blue" neighborhood and turnout was light to moderate. On the way home, we passed the polling place in more "red" the ward neighboring ours. I couldn't tell much about turn out there but it wasn't crowded in an obvious way.
I'm in a deep red state so I'm pretty sure Trump will win here. Not sure what any of my observations mean but there they are!

I would say Exit polls are even less reliable than normal, "telephone" polls.
They were wrong in 2000 and 2004 where both called the wrong winner.
So don't get discouraged from getting your friends and relatives to the polls, even if you feel your state is "safe" one way or the other.

I managed to find a window in the rain, fortunately. Folks in my precinct seemed to want the touch screen and it seemed pretty light at 8 (I used to work as a judge and we were typically swamped through 9). Also, no one talked much but folks in line seemed grumpy. FWIW.
I'd prefer the touch screen myself, but there's something cathartic about manually voting no on every one of the 50 or 60 judicial retentions.

Made me remember back in the day -- Illinois used to have pretend demonstration ballots for people who needed instruction. The judges in my precinct always let the kids 'vote' on those demo ballots. Baseball commissioner Kennesaw Mountain Landis was always the big winner.

I know that people around here detest Bob Ross and the whole paint by this process method but I was watching some old episodes of Joy of Painting whilst talking to Bander and I told him that watching a painting just poof appear like that was akin to magic to me. Happy trees and fluffy clouds and put this brush here and touch it there and BAM a painting. That's magic to me.

I've been in sculpting mode for the last several months--and in my case 'sculpting' means earthenware and terra cotta low fire clay modeling. I'm doing representational figurative work, primarily the female form. Clay--for me--is more immediate and intuitive than stone or marble.
There's truly nothing like it. When sculpting, I don't seethe finished imagein my mind's eye like I do when you paint.I conceptualize it withmy hands, I feel it.
What went on in Michelangelo's head while he worked is anybody's guess but I'm thinking it was beautiful in there.

The thing is: was anybody that thrilled about voting for Dubya in '00? I voted for him, but more out of dislike for Gore than anything else. Things got bitter after the election, but before it I don't recall anybody, Dem or Republican being that excited. In fact, it was funny to hear people who had been all "meh" about both candidates get so passionate once Gore contested it.
This year, I don't think Trump voters will be easily discouraged.

No matter how this turns out today, it was comforting. To know that there are men like Mike Pence and Donald Trump who care enough about their country to want to work this hard to restore her soveriegnty, and her freedom, along with the millions who support him means this country is far from over.
Trump said last night when he finally took the stage at almost 1 am at the Devos Convention Center, that when he was told that Hillary and Obama had come back to Michigan yesterday to campaign, he told his staff, "let's go, make it happen". So with something like four or five hours notice, this rally was put together.
18,000 people showed up, at 11pm to attend. There were a LOT of young people in the crowd. Grand Rapids is young, a little progressive with midwestern conservative values, if that makes any sense. I've been to Devos many times and I was stunned by how full the center was. The convention floor was filled and people were out the door standing in the hallways. Pence spoke first, then the Don came up. He is amazing. He looked fresh, although his voice was a little husky. He was truly touched by the number of people there and he spoke of how this was a movement that won't stop.
He said he was up in NH, in FL, OH,very close in PA, and up in several more critical states. And that Michigan was going to vote Trump.
Go Vote people, we need every single vote

What do I want from a Trump administration?
I want a politicized Department of Justice to root out every trace of Democratic presence in the federal bureaucracy. I want witch hunts in the IRS and the EPA that arrest people for protected political speech, leading to show trials and punitive actions against those who engage in legal political activity. I want bureaucrats terrorized into quitting their jobs and blindly following orders. I want the whole government so blindly panicked at the very idea of coming under the scrutiny of the political arm of the DoJ that they quit rather than collect their pensions.
I want to weaponize the various arms of government to deploy them against our political enemies and destroy their ability to effectively mount legal or political challenges to our initiatives, and make it personally costly for them to try and do so. I want to ruin their lives and careers if they say things critical of needed reforms.
I want to make it dangerous to attempt to corrupt our republic again.
I want to make this such a political bloodbath that the enemies of the Constitution will shudder for a generation before they even think of desecrating things again. I want a political Terror that will echo down the ages as did the French Terror.

I voted nearly 2 and a half hours after the polls opened. I was number 102. I have seen higher turnouts at primary elections. The place was basically empty. Three other voters in there at the same time as I. There was no line. More poll workers than voters.
What made me mad was that there were 5 state and county races all unopposed, all Democrats on the ballot. I wrote in people from my church. I don't think they'll win. How do you not challenge a Democrat and hope for anything to change?

In Chicago they gave us the choice to get the second ballot with all the referendums, that included the Safe Roads Amendment and other bs about mandated sick days (maybe that was just Chicago).
Polling place at 8am was packed and confused - the people working didn't quite know what they were doing. More crowded than I've seen it before.

One of the more remarkable things about Michaelangelo's David is that Mikey didn't pick out the marble. I now do mail in ballots, but I lived in a really red precinct and I think the most people I ever saw in line in my life was like 20 people.
Here's the thing, how many people are willing to wait in a line for Hillary vs Trump?
I get that most of her support is they simply don't like Trump, but it wouldn't surprise me to see a lot of that whither away when it comes to actually taking an hour or more out of your day.

About 20% of our local GOP candidates were running unopposed. But I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. The Ellis County Texas Democrat Party Headquarters is in a run-down old building downtown, in about 300 square feet, next door to a bottle/can recycling center. Heh.

About 20% Rs unopposed in Galveston county as well. I ended up voting for all the Rs because Ds and Greens were out of the question and Ls aren't any less likely to be for big government than the others.

The pro-life GOTV group I volunteer for has transported 25% more people than in 2012 --- at least as of 10AM.
There aren't that many votes in SW VA. It's just one Congressional district and covers a whole lot of mountainous ground. You've got to drag all of those people in from the hollers.
But if we can get a good turn-out, it will help offset a little bit of the fraud in NoVa.

I think when all the exit data was poured over in the 2000 and 2004 election and why it was wrong, some of the conclusions were the people that asked the exit questions were men that were seeking out women to talk to. So it really skewed the gender gap.
Also, you know good and well exit pollsters aren't going to be readily stationed in rural parts of the state that will go heavy for Trump. There simply isn't the resources for that. It will be mostly in metro areas.

Okay. Just got back from voting in the very heart of darkness, my polling place inside the lobby of New York University housing.
First impression, it was packed. At least twice as many voters as in '08 and '12.
Second impression, while I suspect virtually all are voting for Her Heinous Nurse Nasty, I did see a guy with a USMC baseball cap and windbreaker and I also spied a name on the voter rolls who has registered GOP.
For whatever it's worth.

Yeah, it was completely different in 2012. We were sure of a win.
Last polling had Romney by 1-2, everyone here was reporting heavy turnout in R districts, we were sure of a hidden Romney vote, and that the polls were skewed by the '08 vote, etc.
And then.... bad things started happening.
That's why I don't have much hope.

Yesterday we agreed at work that the other two co-workers would vote on the way in and I would come in at the usual time so there would be someone here at 8 and then I would to go lunch either at 11 or at 1 to vote or maybe leave at 4.
I got texts from both of them around 7 that they had voted and were on their way in so I decided to vote on my way in. I got to my polls around 7:35 and was done by 7:55 though I got lucky in that since the line was getting long they divided it up by letters of last name and I was second in line for my set. The other line looked to have about a 35-45 minute wait. I was ballot 67 and was 65 on the optical scanner which is impressive because that means they were working voters through about a person a minute.
When I left the line was about twice as long.
There was an odd situation when the woman behind me said she had moved recently and forgot to change her registration. Recently turned out to be a year and moved turned out to be to a different county. The poll workers were nice and the one doing provisional ballots called further up the chain to ask what to do. I did hear the lady try to hand over her license when asked for her new address and the poll worker told her politely that no, she had to tell them what it was so that it was not perceived they were asking for id.
I'm torn as to whether this woman was just an idiot or if this was some kind of test of the poll workers.

I don't either, I remember almost all of the individual swing state polling favoring Obama. I do remember a Gallup poll having Romney up one point the day before nationally, but it was clear the trend had been downwards after the hurricane.
All sorts of analysis have been done, but Romney pulled in less voters than Bush did in 2004, and rural voters had low participation.

Yes, they do. Even the buggy-driving ones.
We have quite a few Dunkers (Amish/Mennonite-types) in rural VA, especially in the Shenandoah Valley but also in SW VA.
Their #1 concern, as you might guess, is religious liberty. And they do not like Hillary.
(BTW, Hillary was involved in the attempt to force the Amish to send their kids to state schools. That is, she worked on the Wisconsin side in Wisconsin v. Yoder, which was decided by one vote in SCOTUS in favor of the Amish. The Dunkers know this.)

Everyone but Gabe was predicting a mid 300s electoral vote win for Romney. IIRC, Gabe had Obama and was very close to the actual vote totals in the end. Gabe was attacked viciously for, it turns out, being right.
Full disclosure, I was sure Romney had it. I took off the next day from work because I figured I would be up all night celebrating. That worked out well.

But you have to have perspective. Romney got 103k votes in my county last time. In all of Philly, he got 93k to Obama's 560k. It's a long uphill climb to beat Philly. Even if your rural counties turn out huge, is that enough to erase a 500k some deficit from surrounding Philly area?
So big turnout is nice... but it has to be very big and very one-sides. You also need depressed turnouts in those high pop places.

I'll tell you how it's changed me. I no longer identify with party at any level. I'll only vote for the man or woman who appeals to my needs and values directly. And I'm through giving money to any of them for any reason.

I told him the problem wasn't so much about who was going to win the election, but how easy it was to lose a friend just because you supported somebody, so I've been going out of my way to appear a lot more neutral than I really am.
He told me he's seen a lot of that lately.

The problem I have with the nevertrumpers is they are too dumb to see that a guy that goes with you 60% of the time is better than someone who goes with you 12% (which may be a bit high) of the time.
Likewise, being consistent, I'd welcome them back on the things we can agree about, and viciously fight them on the things we can't.
We all need allies, if even on single issues.

I personally subscribed to National Review for years, went to NRO every day. When they opposed Trump during the primary, I understood, as I was a Cruz voter in the primary, but the NRO style guide habit of ripping Trump in EVERY SINGLE ARTICLE, even those completely unrelated to the presidential race was grating. Kevin Williamson's article on rural America was even more so. When Trump won the nomination, I hoped NRO would at least seek a balance of also denigrating Hillary at the same pace, but they decided that it was more important to declare their Beltway bonafides, and continue to campaign against the Republican nominee.
A pox on all their houses.

I went to vote around 8. Long lines. This section of Michigan is very Republican; most local candidates running unopposed. We'll have to see how the suburbs and little cities vote.
Two diehard Democrats were worried at my workplace because their more upscale areas have had no Hillary lawn signs and haven't had any local campaign callers. They fear (and I hope) the usual Dem voters will stay home.
We shall see.
