Anecdotal evidence about TO on Election Day is usually meaningless as we've seen in the past. Real data matters, though, and the campaigns and numbers folks have it. Apreinct will tell someone the exact number voted and that can be matched with historical Norms and campaign expectations. Both campaigns know exactly how they are doing right now.

At one of the museums in Rome, there was a statue of a figure reclining on a couch. Approached from the rear, it's quite a nice figure -- then you see the front, and realize there's a dong, and not a tiny one.
The Romans weren't that tolerant of homosexuality -- it was a common accusation because it basically made you unfit for public life -- but they did like crude jokes. (Caesar was called "Queen of Bythnia" by his enemies because of rumors about his long stay in that Greek country while he was supposed to be getting troops. The emperors who are generally believed to be gay are ones who pissed off the Romans enough their enemies wrote the history, or the ones who were particularly harsh towards Christians. Same thing, really.) Posted by: Robert Crawford at November 08, 2016 10:56 AM (ONgLu) 163

Look at his stuff, none of the boobs make physical sense. Posted by: Bandersnatch at November 08, 2016 10:53 AM (mgbwf) I think Michelangelo adored the male form (in an aesthetic sense although possibly/probably in the sexual sense). It isn't so much that he renders the female form badly; he doesn't. It's just that no one before or since has represented the male form so beautifully. I recently bought a book on Rennaissance terra cotta sculptures, most of which were studies by the masters before they did the pieces full-size in marble. These had the feel of casual pieces, quickly executed sketches in the round. No one can touch Michelangelo in terms of beauty of form. No one. The Commssiar-ette and I voted this morning with our little Comrades in tow. Our polling place is in an area with both traditionally conservative and liberal constituencies. Turn out was steady but the lines weren't out the door. In fact, we were in and out quickly! The family and I also passed a polling place in a traditionally "blue" neighborhood and turnout was light to moderate. On the way home, we passed the polling place in more "red" the ward neighboring ours. I couldn't tell much about turn out there but it wasn't crowded in an obvious way. I'm in a deep red state so I'm pretty sure Trump will win here. Not sure what any of my observations mean but there they are! Posted by: Commissar M at November 08, 2016 11:05 AM (vcIHi) 218

Read a nice piece this morning by Pat Buchanan ( yeah, I know, not the " right kind" of Conservative for many).
He said in essence, win or lose, our struggle will continue, and our cause is worth fighting for. Gave me pause, made me realize the gulf that separates me from the Uniparty. Posted by: tubal at November 08, 2016 11:01 AM (d6TTt) Buchanan isn't the 'right kind' of conservative because he isn't a conservative at all. That 'paleoconservatism' of his is barely veiled, old-school American Firsterantisemitism--atruly fucked-upideological lineage that goes back to the Know Nothings. I can only speak for myself but Buchanan's struggle is not my struggle, his cause isn't mine. He's nothing but a paranoid, Jew-hating piece of shit. Exit polls are utter trash, they have absolutely zero statistical value at any level. It doesn't matter what they say, they are useless. Trump up by +75, Clinton up by +9, it doesn't matter, they are as valid as throwing darts over your shoulder at names on the wall.

I had the unsettling thought that while all along we've been thinking turnout for Hill will be low, all those hipsters might be in line, not because they love Hill but because the media has successfully convinced them that Trump Is Worse Than Hitler! Speaking of Michelangelo... Has anyone looked at his David from the front.. I mean - Face to you.. It really changes the whole piece. When you look ant the statue in the location it is in, it is difficult to see the work as many think it was intended.. face to the viewer. David changes from a pretty male figure to a "I am gonna kick some giant ass!" It really is remarkable..

Light rain in suburban Crook County, IL. Avg. turnout, so many people wanted paper ballots they ran out of pens.
--- I managed to find a window in the rain, fortunately. Folks in my precinct seemed to want the touch screen and it seemed pretty light at 8 (I used to work as a judge and we were typically swamped through 9). Also, no one talked much but folks in line seemed grumpy. FWIW. I'd prefer the touch screen myself, but there's something cathartic about manually voting no on every one of the 50 or 60 judicial retentions. I watched the impromptu Trump rally in Grand Rapids last night on Breitbart's live streaming.
No matter how this turns out today, it was comforting. To know that there are men like Mike Pence and Donald Trump who care enough about their country to want to work this hard to restore her soveriegnty, and her freedom, along with the millions who support him means this country is far from over. Trump said last night when he finally took the stage at almost 1 am at the Devos Convention Center, that when he was told that Hillary and Obama had come back to Michigan yesterday to campaign, he told his staff, "let's go, make it happen". So with something like four or five hours notice, this rally was put together. 18,000 people showed up, at 11pm to attend. There were a LOT of young people in the crowd. Grand Rapids is young, a little progressive with midwestern conservative values, if that makes any sense. I've been to Devos many times and I was stunned by how full the center was. The convention floor was filled and people were out the door standing in the hallways. Pence spoke first, then the Don came up. He is amazing. He looked fresh, although his voice was a little husky. He was truly touched by the number of people there and he spoke of how this was a movement that won't stop. He said he was up in NH, in FL, OH,very close in PA, and up in several more critical states. And that Michigan was going to vote Trump. Go Vote people, we need every single vote Posted by: Jen the original at November 08, 2016 11:41 AM (oDUj/) 416

I'm going to be posting this throughout the day, because I think it needs to be said.
What do I want from a Trump administration? I want a politicized Department of Justice to root out every trace of Democratic presence in the federal bureaucracy. I want witch hunts in the IRS and the EPA that arrest people for protected political speech, leading to show trials and punitive actions against those who engage in legal political activity. I want bureaucrats terrorized into quitting their jobs and blindly following orders. I want the whole government so blindly panicked at the very idea of coming under the scrutiny of the political arm of the DoJ that they quit rather than collect their pensions. I want to weaponize the various arms of government to deploy them against our political enemies and destroy their ability to effectively mount legal or political challenges to our initiatives, and make it personally costly for them to try and do so. I want to ruin their lives and careers if they say things critical of needed reforms. I want to make it dangerous to attempt to corrupt our republic again. I want to make this such a political bloodbath that the enemies of the Constitution will shudder for a generation before they even think of desecrating things again. I want a political Terror that will echo down the ages as did the French Terror. David Posted by: David, Internet Troll at November 08, 2016 11:44 AM (2skQu) 435

I just got back from voting. I live in a red-leaning precinct in a blue-leaning county. Presidential elections often go 51-52/ 48-49, Democrat. We offset the county next to us which usually goes red. Both are in the 1st Congressional District (Paul Ryan).
I voted nearly 2 and a half hours after the polls opened. I was number 102. I have seen higher turnouts at primary elections. The place was basically empty. Three other voters in there at the same time as I. There was no line. More poll workers than voters. What made me mad was that there were 5 state and county races all unopposed, all Democrats on the ballot. I wrote in people from my church. I don't think they'll win. How do you not challenge a Democrat and hope for anything to change? Posted by: grammie winger - Fly the W at November 08, 2016 11:45 AM (dFi94) 438

One of the more remarkable things about Michaelangelo's David is that Mikey didn't pick out the marble. Florence had picked out a glorious piece of marble at tremendous expense, and hired a series of lesser sculptors over the next 30 years to do the work, but they always crapped out. The last of them was hired and proceeded to immediately drill holes through the base. Legend is, that he realized he'd ruined the marble and promptly walked up to the Florentines and demanded another expensive chunk of marble. The Florentines threw him out on his ass. Finally, Michaelangelo bid for the commission, realizing that he could work with the marble that had been "ruined". Posted by: IllTemperedCur at November 08, 2016 11:56 AM (XWkhW) 508

Live in rural, southeast Kent Co. Michigan. Township is heavily Republican. I always go vote at around 10:00 am, midway between the early birds and the lunch hour voters.
The line has never been outside the building. Bush-Gore was about a 5 minute wait. Same with Bush-Kerry. JEF-McCain was about 10 minutes. JEF-Romney about 20 minutes. Today, 45 minutes with the line snaking outside the building. I hope that means something. Posted by: fly Interesting. I now do mail in ballots, but I lived in a really red precinct and I think the most people I ever saw in line in my life was like 20 people. Here's the thing, how many people are willing to wait in a line for Hillary vs Trump? I get that most of her support is they simply don't like Trump, but it wouldn't surprise me to see a lot of that whither away when it comes to actually taking an hour or more out of your day. Boulder Daily Camera - top story!:
Scroll back far enough in group texts sent between women and women-identified students at the University of Colorado and you'll probably find this message: "My period just started in class. Does anyone have a tampon I can borrow?" Student leaders want to reduce some of that panic by providing free tampons and pads in all bathrooms on campus... Dear CU students: You are legal adults, capable of marrying, enlisting and all sorts of other adult decisions. Do please learn how to stash a freakin' tampon in your purse or backpack - or better yet, learn to track your cycle and anticipate when your period will come. Geez!!! Turn-out has so far been a bit heavier than usual in SW VA. I hope it is a LOT heavier before the day is over.
The pro-life GOTV group I volunteer for has transported 25% more people than in 2012 --- at least as of 10AM. There aren't that many votes in SW VA. It's just one Congressional district and covers a whole lot of mountainous ground. You've got to drag all of those people in from the hollers. Just got back from voting in So Cal - definitely longer lines than I remember in 2012. One old fart was voting for Hillary - how do I know you ask? He decided to announce it. Listening to the local catholic radio channel on the way to work I heard quite a few men call in to say they voted for Trump.

NC voting anecdata:
Yesterday we agreed at work that the other two co-workers would vote on the way in and I would come in at the usual time so there would be someone here at 8 and then I would to go lunch either at 11 or at 1 to vote or maybe leave at 4. I got texts from both of them around 7 that they had voted and were on their way in so I decided to vote on my way in. I got to my polls around 7:35 and was done by 7:55 though I got lucky in that since the line was getting long they divided it up by letters of last name and I was second in line for my set. The other line looked to have about a 35-45 minute wait. I was ballot 67 and was 65 on the optical scanner which is impressive because that means they were working voters through about a person a minute. When I left the line was about twice as long. There was an odd situation when the woman behind me said she had moved recently and forgot to change her registration. Recently turned out to be a year and moved turned out to be to a different county. The poll workers were nice and the one doing provisional ballots called further up the chain to ask what to do. I did hear the lady try to hand over her license when asked for her new address and the poll worker told her politely that no, she had to tell them what it was so that it was not perceived they were asking for id. I'm torn as to whether this woman was just an idiot or if this was some kind of test of the poll workers. RCP 2012 final polls had Romney +1 in Gallup and Rasmussen, Politico, CNN, and Monmouth were tied, IBD and NBC had Obama + 1, Pew and ABC had Obama + 3.
*********************** They under sampled support for Obama. This time around we have to hope the turnout favors Trump. Considering ABC had no problem or concern rigging the poll to put Clinton 12 points ahead, I'm thinking there really is an anti-trump bias in all the polls. But you have to have perspective. Romney got 103k votes in my county last time. In all of Philly, he got 93k to Obama's 560k. It's a long uphill climb to beat Philly. Even if your rural counties turn out huge, is that enough to erase a 500k some deficit from surrounding Philly area? So big turnout is nice... but it has to be very big and very one-sides. You also need depressed turnouts in those high pop places. Posted by: Reality Man at November 08, 2016 12:38 PM (Ch0fq) 794

When I was getting My art degree, We had nude models
both male and female.....Kind of off-putting staring at nakedness and having to draw it.... If we face decades of a hard left imperial supreme court, I hope we hold the nevertrumpers just as responsible as the corrupt candidate they supported. If that means the end of the conservative movement, so be it. For years, decades even, the grassroots of the party went along with whatever the establishment asked. We have one time in many years where the grassroots managed to gain the upper hand, and the establishment threw a fit, took their toys, and supported a candidate that is anathema to their supposed, false principles. They would prefer supporting their fellow elitists on the left before they would walk in lockstep with the deplorables.
I personally subscribed to National Review for years, went to NRO every day. When they opposed Trump during the primary, I understood, as I was a Cruz voter in the primary, but the NRO style guide habit of ripping Trump in EVERY SINGLE ARTICLE, even those completely unrelated to the presidential race was grating. Kevin Williamson's article on rural America was even more so. When Trump won the nomination, I hoped NRO would at least seek a balance of also denigrating Hillary at the same pace, but they decided that it was more important to declare their Beltway bonafides, and continue to campaign against the Republican nominee. A pox on all their houses. Posted by: Average Guy at November 08, 2016 12:49 PM (KqRop) 833
Wasn't Freddie some variety of Muslim, by birth?

We had Zoroastrians in Houston. They did NOT like the Muslims. They looked on Christians and Jews a bit like younger brothers (it being no secret on the influence they had). Islam to them were like an invasion of demons from hell

I prefer JSS's landscapes. I've spent hours staring at Home Fields.
I went to vote around 8. Long lines. This section of Michigan is very Republican; most local candidates running unopposed. We'll have to see how the suburbs and little cities vote. Two diehard Democrats were worried at my workplace because their more upscale areas have had no Hillary lawn signs and haven't had any local campaign callers. They fear (and I hope) the usual Dem voters will stay home. We shall see. Posted by: NaughtyPine at November 08, 2016 02:39 PM (UwMHj) 849
