Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Tuesday Night Overnight Open Thread (10/18/16)[Mis. Hum.]Today has been Tuesday. The second Monday of the week. Welcome to the ONT. Enjoy. It could be worse. It could be Yoko Tuesday. Oh boy, The Maverick is going all out in his opposition to Hillary's SCOTUS picks. We have nothing to fear with Barack Obama in the White House come to mind? Sid Blumenthal pure as the wind driven snow. Some of Blumenthal's files -- but no e-mails -- were found on a server in Romania, according to the FBI interview. The investigation also found an Excel file listing names of known or suspected jihadists in Libya -- but part of that file was in Russian. "The file did not come from Blumenthal's server, but contained a reference to an IP address range that included the IP address of Clinton's server," the FBI report recounts. "Upon viewing this file, [name redacted] became concerned he had found a classified document and stopped the project." The Clinton email scandal.Quite the scandal. Not. Let's worry about raunchy language in a private setting. In plain English, the Obama State Department asked the FBI to phony up the emails marked confidential so the emails were consistent with Hillary's story. In return, the FBI would get some juicy overseas slots. This shows what the Obama State Department thinks of the FBI: the Comey FBI can be bought with a couple of overseas slots. One of the media's most blatant biases is what they decide what is and isn't news Just imagine had the shooter been a fellow named Schultz instead of Figueroa or Muhummed Isa Al Mahdi. Further investigation into The Media Nothing is on the level. The point being is that even though the news was biased and the balance on the chat shows tilted to the Left, you knew where everyone stood. Bill Press, for example, was crazy as an outhouse rat, but his opinions were his own. When he got into a heated argument with his conservative co-host, you knew it was a bit of an act, but it was also a fight they had had a thousand times over beers at their favorite DC watering hole. The point here is the news has always been biased, but it was on the level, for the most part. Do we curse too much? How in the hell would I know. (You knew it was coming, didn't you?) Is health insurance rationing on the table? My simple answer is yes. How can one pay 5 digits for premium and the deductible without going broke? Chris Cumo of Bias also shows up when one: A) Doesn't do their homework. B) Knowingly lies to their audience C) All of the above Yes, that Chris Cumo. Do you want diversity in your Armed Forces? Or do you want just the best people available? Once again the Obama administration cares more about social engineering. To hell with protection of our country. No one dares use the "Q" word anymore, at least not since the landmark 1978 court case of California v. Bakke. ... Secretary James's 2015 "diversity" initiative failed to reach some critical mass of women and minorities in key positions so she resorted to more drastic measures in her 2016 initiative. If she's allowed to stay on into the next Clinton Administration she will surely continue to tighten the screws until she gets the numbers she wants. As long as she has any number in mind -- the "right" proportion of women and minorities who should be in key positions -- that's a quota and it's illegal. Global Warming. Climate Cooling. Climate Change. Of course it's about control and not science. While we are on Global Warming. Are these a thing of the past? Why teach the 3 R's?When you can brainwash them on climate change? Speaking of science. Food science once again not settled. At this point in time do we know what is good for us? What is bad for us? My rule, eat whatever the hell you want. I won't judge you and you won't judge me. Moderation is the key. Now that we are all confused on what foods are healthy. Let's continue the confusion. Yearly exams? general health checks did not reduce morbidity or mortality, neither overall nor for cardiovascular causes or cancer causes. Would you like to hear a scary story? Hillary and Yoko are not involved. The AoS handgun match. You too can enter a highly competitive AoS contest. All you need is a handgun. And some ammo and some targets Have a news tip? Some loose change or a valid Gym Club membership? Send them here. The Genius Award Winner. He's lucky he is only facing criminal charges and didn't meet his maker. Yesterday, Ace posted a video of Richard Feynman. Amazon has James Gleick's bio of Feynman for $1.99 on kindle. One thing that really stuck with me: Feynman says something to the effect that there are no Laws of Physics. What we call the Laws of Physics are just what we have observed to be true in the universe...so far...

This election has made clear that the mass media is anything but on the level. It's not just biased, it is manufactured bullshit cooked up by schemers in league with members of the ruling class. The Michelle Fields hoax is a great example. Fields, according to her bio, has never actually worked as a reporter. She popped out of college a few years ago, wiggled her ass at the right guy and got cast as a "journalist" on-line and on TV. She's too young to have opinions worth having so she may as well be an actress, hired to play a role.
Given the people she was working for before the scandal, people who weren't part of the MSM, if that's all there was to her, it doesn't speak too highly of them. Posted by: AD at October 18, 2016 10:40 PM (924j6) 139
How does that saying about life go? You're born, it sucks, then you die?
Well, I got another diagnosis to add to the damnable rheumatoid arthritis I've got. It's rosacea. The doc noticed it the other day. My face and nose had become really irritated after I washed it in the shower. It does that sometimes, but it happened to do it right when I went in for an appointment and he got to see it in that flared condition. Now, here's the problem. He's afraid I may have the beginning stages of what is known as rhinophyma. That is a "feature" of rosacea with men (women rarely get it, although rosacea is more common with them). It makes a big, bulbous W.C Fields, Jimmy Durante nose. J.P. Morgan had it as well, and it became hideous later in life and he became sort of a recluse -- it scared children. So, I may be cursed to roam the earth with a hideous, grotesque schozzle, women and children screaming in terror. Seriously, it can be controlled, but what all is involved, I don't know. I'm hoping it's just irritated for some reason, buy my doc is worried. He's likely going to send me to a dermatologist, after he consults with him. The question is: which barrel? 3"? 4"? 6"? Posted by: CharlieBrown'sDildo at October 18, 2016 10:22 PM (Zu3d9) If you're mostly gonna carry concealed, go with the 3". If all around usefulness outweighs that, go with the 4". Better balance, enough sight radius to whack bowling pins at 100 yards, still relatively concealable. If you're just looking for a shooting-range special, with maybe some hunting in the mix, the 6" barrel is the best. But it's a bit nose-heavy, not all that concealment friendly and generally, just a bit "much" when away from the range or field. Myself, I'm a huge fan of the 4" model. It's just incredibly well balanced and feels "right" in shooting, recovery between shots, reloading, etc. As big a fan of classic "pinned and recessed" S&W revolvers that I am, I'd not complain if a GP-100 found it's way into my gun safe. They're very, very good. Jim Sunk New Dawn Galveston, TX Posted by: Dr. Josef Mengle at October 18, 2016 10:48 PM (v5iqM) 166

Just saw this on social media. If anyone is interested:
A message from Eric Trump: "Tomorrow night's debate also happens to be our FINAL FEC deadline of the entire election. The deadline is not until 11:59 PM, but I'd love to tell my father that we already hit our fundraising goal BEFORE he even sets foot on the debate stage. Donate $200, $100, $65 or even $35 before TODAY to help us CRUSH our goal before the FEC deadline, and you'll get your name on the list of supporters I give him before he takes the stage." Today, I actually went and got a manicure. I couldn't do the whole acrylic thing since I hate, hate, hate long nails. But I did do a shellac, which is a kind of gel that will last two weeks. publius. rosecea of the normal sort is controllable these days hopefully that nose type can be halted as well. I have a prescription for metro-gel. I have an HMO but I believe the gel would not be much more than my co-pay. I quit using most soaps on my face and pretty much will only use a glycerin soap now and sunscreen is out. No problem for an ette to just use powder with SPF in it (although I can't find them lately and have to buy darker shade of plain powder and just mix in the titanium dioxide and zinc oxide) The metro gel is the main thing though.

CBD, Handle each barrel length if you can, but I bet you will prefer the 4" barrel. A friend asked me to help his daughter choose a handgun for range and purse carry. The family knows shooting but not hand guns. Tiny as she is, I thought she would go with a small 9mm. She liked the 4" GP100 and shoots it very well. If I didn't have several 357s, I would get one. The balance is great and it's heavy enough to take the sting out of most 357 recoil. 38 specials feel like a pop gun.

This evening I met Mark Meadows (R - NC). The funny thing is, it was on account of our dog. I was out walking the dog when I encountered he and his wife. We've never met, but I recognized him. He altered his path to come over and greet the dog , which was immediately on her cutest and most friendly tail-wagging behavior.
He went on about his own dog, and only introduced himself when I asked if he was who I thought he was. His wife was with him, and when I mentioned that he was the only politician to whom I had ever written a letter, he asked me what it was about. I told him that it had to do with removing Boehner as Speaker, whereupon his wife spoke up and said, "I remember reading that!" She actually repeated stuff from a letter I wrote months ago. I want a Ruger GP-100 .357 magnum. Stainless, because why the fvck not?
The question is: which barrel? 3"? 4"? 6"? CBD, I dearly love 3" .357s (especially the SW 66), but would pass on it, unless your primary purpose is discreet carry (and there are better ones than a GP-100 3" for that). I'd try to fondle both a 4" and a 6". I'm betting one will speak to you, and further, unless your primary usage is target and/or hunting, would double the bet that it will be the 4". Then again, last time I had a physical, the nice but clueless young internist didn't have his stats right on frequency of full physicals for various ages and particular medical histories. In the later Perry Mason reboots that ran from '85 to '95, they finally had Perry kiss Della, and say something like she was the light of his life or something. It was about damn time, and I got something in my eye.
Raymond Burr died in '93, and they ran four more of the specials, with some other characters playing the lawyers. Perry was off somewhere. I think Barbara Hale appeared as Della helping the other lawyers out, but IIRC, she was on screen for just a bit. IIRC, they were contractually obligated to make 4 more Mason movie specials, and the network or whoever held them to it. With Burr dead, I guess Barbara didn't see much of point. Burr was it, and once he was gone, so should the series. The old poofter actually met his "life partner" on the set of the original Mason series, I think I read. ------------- I should have printed it. For a while there was a picture of the eagle biting Clinton. Seems gone now, but the story is still out there: Ungrateful eagle bites Clinton Published 03/07/1999 | 00:11 A BALD EAGLE, the emblem of the US, bit President Clinton on the White House lawn yesterday, writes Ben Fenton.Mr Clinton's staff had arranged for the eagle, Challenger, to be present when he announced that the species was being taken off the endangered list. Mr Clinton looked distinctly uneasy as he stood just out of pecking distance of the bird, whose image appears on the great seal of the United States and on the dollar bill. As the President turned to congratulate volunteers from the eagle-salvation programme who were standing behind Challenger's perch, the 10-year-old bird bent forward and pecked his left hand. Mr Clinton withdrew his hand quickly, as an embarrassed bird handler, Mr Al Cesari moved in. A spokesman for the White House said later: ``The President was bitten, but no blood was drawn.'' Some trivia: They actually filmed one episode of the original Perry Mason in color, and I've seen it. You can see some clips of it on Youtube if you search.
It was during the last season, but it was not the last episode. The remaining episodes were back in black and white. It was just a test run. They were going to do the 10th season in color, but it was cancelled. Burr wanted out after 5 years, but they persuaded him to stay, and had to persuade him again for that possible 10th season. The network suit idiots at CBS killed it. The first five seasons aired on Saturday nights, and then the suits changed it, moving it to Thursday nights. During the original Saturday run, Bonanza on NBC ran opposite Mason, but Mason beat them in the ratings. NBC moved Bonanza to Sunday nights, and it became more popular and starting winning it's time slot. CBS was pissed. Ed Sullivan ran at 8PM Sundays on CBS, but then a lot of viewers would switch to NBC at nine to watch Bonanza. So CBS decided to put Perry Mason again in competition with Bonanza opposite it on Sundays, that move was the end of Perry Mason in the ratings. In the final episode, Earle Stanley Gardner played the judge, and they let a bunch of the production team due cameo roles. Hammer. That pic of Spillane needs to be a poster in every Detective's wardroom in the country. It. Just. Does.
Rhomboid. If you'll get some custom steel targets made, at about 1/2 to 1/3 scale as what you're shooting in the match, you'll be practicing hits in the "aim small" universe. And those actual match targets will look like Zeppelins in your sights, come the day. As for the flinch, here's a way to make re-useable "flinch rounds", for centerfire pistols. Take a hollowpoint projectile (not a cartridge, but ONLY the projectile), and drill a 3/16" dia. hole through the center of the hollowpoint, and down into and through the heel of the bullet. Using clean, tumbled, and alcohol-cleaned cases, seat the bullet into the empty case, using the highest grade of epoxy you can find to permanently fix the bullet to the brass. Taper crimp as normal. You can seat a primer using a Lee Auto Prime, or similar tool. You don't have to use a primer, but do seat some brass in the primer hole to give the firing pin something to absorb the inertia. That hole drilled through the projectile? So you can later punch-out a spent primer, and use the dummy round again and again. Have people who don't like you (aka "friends") to randomly insert those rounds amongst live rounds in your practice magazine. Believe me, you'll SEE your flinch, and you'll also recognize every micro-twitch of the muscles that twitched in the act. And that's where you begin to take control, and learn to let the gun go off by itself, with no anticipation. So, that after much self practice and dry fire, that when you're at the range and drop the hammer on a "flinch round", when the hammer drops, the. sights. don't. move. at. all. With revolvers, it's easier. Have those same hateful friends just stuff an empty case or two, at random, into the cylinder you're gonna close to lock up and fire. But in that the semi-auto "flinch round" has to feed from the mag like normal, and not give a hint as to it's presence, the above is a good drill. HAZARD WARNING. Use toolmaker's dye or other indelible medim, and color the brass on these rounds. Keep them VERY separate from "carry" rounds AT ALL TIMES. You don't want a "flinch round" to come into battery while Bubba is trying to use you for his personal ATM withdrawl system. I'm with TPOP on "junk food".
Philosophically, it's nonamybusiness what people want to eat. Technically, there's nothing wrong with "junk food" - any problems are with excess, individual health peculiarities, or lifestyle. I rarely ever consume "junk food". And I love it when I do. Duh. I believe Craig Claiborne, long the NYT restaurant/food critic, used to "review" McDonald's and other fast-food chains once in a while. I think I remember him praising McD's french fries (this was good ol' beef tallow days) in particular, and writing something like "McDonald's does a great business - because their food tastes good". I think he enjoyed mooning much of his readership who unlike him were snobby, as opposed to discriminating, about their tastes. (but this is just memory from the 1980s, like the former SecState maybe "I just don't remember", accurately) Posted by: rhomboid at October 19, 2016 12:47 AM (QDnY+) 348

And here's another funny thing. Raymond Burr originally showed up at the casting call to read for the part of Hamilton Burger. He wasn't even thinking about playing Mason. But Earle Stanley Gardner was there, took one at look at Burr, and say "That is Perry Mason!"
I think William Talman also read for the Mason part himself. So, they could've had reversed roles had things gone just a little bit different. Also, there was scandal with William Talman, and they fired him for a few episodes, but had to bring him back from popular demand. The cops raided some house, suspecting Demon Weed was being used, and there they found Talman. All of them were nude or semi-nude. You can make out of that what you will. Talman was charged with possession of marijuana and "lewd vagracy", but a judge dropped the charges because there wasn't enough evidence. But he still had to make a statement saying Talman was a bad man. Posted by: publius (not Breitbart publius) at October 19, 2016 12:50 AM (DW+jj) 352

I've had simply fantastic porters and stouts with coffee at local craft breweries (one of the breweries is way into coffee roasting, too), this one's quite good for bottled.
I could buy my growler of local brew at any of the 100+ breweries hereabouts, but I haven't gotten into that quite yet. Prefer to enjoy them at brewery. Thanks Jim, great idea, I hadn't seen that.
Actually I've been using home-made dummy rounds (I mark the bottom of the cases in bright colors and strictly segregate them from all other ammo) for exactly this sort of flinch assessment/practice, in all my calibers, semi-auto and revolver. For revolver, I just drop one or two into the cylinder along with the live rounds while looking away, spin it, and off I go. My approach to fixing my 1911 problem is the same as I'm taking to smoothing my 1911 trigger - lots and lots of shooting. With a focus on the problem, use of dummy rounds, etc., not just "practicing bad habits". I actually did quite well with it Saturday, comparable to any other handgun I shoot on the small steel disks at 10-15 yards. So I'm over the hump. Jean, I'd say 90% anticipation - but one thing to note is that I've always found the trigger to break somewhat hard, even though 3 or 4 experienced people I've had try it says it's pretty normal. For a stock trigger.
My error was down, classic flinch. For the most part, I've got that reduced greatly. Just takes more concentration to shoot it normally than my other platforms. So far, my firm approach is to fix the shooter, not the gun, for any problems I'm having. I'm a lousy customer for after-market parts and customizing. Smitty, years ago I had a Remington 410 and a Ruger 6" 38 nickel plated revolver, and a Ruger 10/22. I was an OTR driver. I came home from a trip and my sister told me that my guns, a half full water bottle, the kind that you see on water dispensers, full of change and two custom pool cues were stolen. I asked her if she had reported it to the cops and she said no. I went to the phone to report the three missing firearms and she told me that she was broke and needed the money. She sold the guns to a guy who was a collector, cashed in the change for about $500.00 and the two custom made cues for about half of what they were worth. I never got the guns back although I threatened to sue, I didn't have the time or the money. I confiscated her car and never let her have keys to it. I couldn't do any more. She was my sister, but I still hold a grudge.

So today I made the best batch of Navy Bean soup I've ever made, and I've made it before. But like my Mom, I don't follow recipes nor do I measure my ingredients. The ingredients, in this case, were 11, 12 if you count the bacon grease I started with, sautéing until soft the carrots, celery, onions and garlic; 13 if you count the dollop of sour cream added to the serving. It's not a complicated soup to make and only takes time because the beans have to cook (with those yummy smoked ham hocks). But it's not like I'm standing at the stove the whole time. But the aroma was pretty intoxicating.
It's food like this that makes me so glad I actually know how to cook. Thanks, Mom, for not wanting your son to be as ignorant in the kitchen as his father! Posted by: RickZ at October 19, 2016 03:55 AM (zRegE) 406

Used to have oatmeal for breakfast. Practically lived on it as a poor college student. I had it so often I'd try to find ways to spice it up a bit. Add some raisins, chopped walnuts, raspberry jam, maple syrup - anything to add a different texture or flavor. One morning, my choice was cinnamon, a few sprinkles with a bit of honey. The kitchen cabinets were dark, and the coffee wasn't yet made, and what was added was not cinnamon, but another reddish powdered spice that was next to it on the shelf. Cayenne. Had to throw that bowl of oatmeal away. Posted by: Trish Regan Fan Club at October 19, 2016 04:16 AM (mL2BD) 408

Dump hot stuff into big mixing bowl of oats and peanuts. Stir, mix, and spread evenly on cookie sheet. Toast in oven, and remove when dry. Package with raisins. By the way....I don't bother heating the wet ingredients separately. I just dump everything except the raisins into a big bowl and mix thoroughly. Yet we're supposed to believe their speculations about a much more complicated system that exists on such a large scale that all the variables involved cannot be controlled or accounted for. Good Morning Morons. Today is Wednesday, October 19, 2016. On this day in 1943 streptomycin, the first antibiotic remedy for tuberculosis, was isolated by researchers at Rutgers University. The use of this drug and vaccines had caused a constant decline in TB in the US and other advanced countries. However, since Obama started letting in every third world disease ridden parasite he could get here it is going back up again.

I read this morning, when it comes to incumbent candidates, since 1964, Senate incumbents have won around an astounding 90% of the time. For the House, the numbers are slightly 'better', with incumbents winning around 80% of the time.
One reason NOT mentioned when it comes to the media's full on assault on Trump is the fact that he is a political outsider. Our political elite just cannot stand the thought of an outsider taking their 'deserved' job. With the media's willing help, thanks to all their incestuous relationships with pols, it's another away of them saying, 'Peasants, know your place!' This is why I constantly refer to the divide as We the People vs. They the Government. Posted by: RickZ at October 19, 2016 06:48 AM (zRegE) 469
