The creator of the "Gaia Hypothesis" is a bit of a crank. But he is provocative; of that there is no doubt. And now he is goring the Left's favorite ox! In an interview with The Guardian, he fires a broadside at AGW. And reaffirms that he is a nutjob. James Lovelock: 'Before the end of this century, robots will have taken over'

What has changed dramatically, however, is his position on climate change. He now says: “Anyone who tries to predict more than five to 10 years is a bit of an idiot, because so many things can change unexpectedly.” But isn’t that exactly what he did last time we met? “I know,” he grins teasingly. “But I’ve grown up a bit since then.”

Unbelievable. The UN is now interfering in the internal politics of our country. They took this tweet down after a few minutes, but the intrepid internet saved it.

I wonder whether these screen grabs would have been vaporized in a puff of burning electrons had the UN been in control?

In the academy, Queer To Stay, but it is a vanity subject because of the vanishingly small percentage of Americans who identify as gay. Yes, seemingly every other TV and movie character is gay, and undoubtedly the SJWs are all gay, or at least want to be. But when 97% of Americans identify themselves as heterosexual, the remaining 3% just isn't that important.

Why are my colleagues so caught up in same-sex matters?

Few of them are gay, but they have made "queer theory," gender studies, and other schools of thought opposed to what they call "heteronormativity" central to the humanities ever since the subjects blossomed in book lists, periodicals, conferences, and hirings in the late 1980s and early '90s. Of course, it isn't hard to understand why same-sex attraction draws political support. The professoriate is uniformly liberal on social issues. To them, the case for anti-discrimination is a no-brainer, and conservative resistance to same-sex marriage and transgender rights amounts to a lingering Jim Crow. But making LGBT topics into a research field and a professional identity doesn't make obvious sense.

The demographics don't support it. According to the 2013 National Health Interview Survey, a project of the Centers for Disease Control, 96.6% of American adults identify as straight, 1.6% gay or lesbian, and 0.7% bisexual. Those numbers fit closely to the fields as they were when I started graduate school in 1983, and same-sex issues were a rare concern. The teacher who taught me the most in those years was gay and offered a course in gay lit each year for undergrads, but his position was understood as a side interest, not a defining feature. His professional identity was as a Romanticist taking a history-of-ideas approach.

Apolitical Reasons to Hate Politics

I hate politics. Part of the reason, to be honest, is that I'm a libertarian, and libertarian views have almost no influence in the world of politics. Libertarians don't just lose every election; policy-makers normally summarily reject our position. Libertarians don't just fail to control a major party; "successful libertarian politician" is almost an oxymoron.

An honest assessment of his own political beliefs and the party that represents them. That's rare! Although....read his postscript and maybe you will disagree with it as fully as I do.

******

Here is a good example of the hubris and arrogance of the NY Times. In an opinion piece titled, Why Don't You Just Call the Cops? a couple of sociologists try to debunk the idea that crime is rising by suggesting that the recent uptick is just a blip on a decreasing national crime rate. Fine. But then they take a blip in "911" calls and extrapolate to ridiculous conclusions....that Blacks have stopped calling the police because they are afraid, and that is why crime has increased.

And take a look at this quotation....it sounds like collective guilt to me. I guess that the Left is happy to protect Islam when it is accused of responsibility for terrorist acts, but is unwilling to extend the same protections to the police.

No act of police violence is an isolated incident and it should not be treated as such. Each new tragedy contributes to and reawakens the collective trauma of black communities, which have been subjected to state-sanctioned assaults — from slave whippings and lynching campaigns to Jim Crow enforcement and mass incarceration — for generations. If acts of excessive police force result in community-level consequences, then cities should implement community-level interventions in the aftermath of such acts.

So...they would approve of carpet bombing Riyadh and Karachi?

Read two great books over the past week:

Andrew Klavan's new "The Great Good Thing" - how he, a secular Jew came to Christ,

Nabeel Qureshi's "Seeking Allah, Finding Jesus". - how he, a Muslim came to Christ.

Both fascinating and extremely well written. Page turners. American stories. Really illuminating reads.

29 Okay, I went to the Trump rally in Loveland. Since I was in the top five of annoying jerks in Colorado, and also knocked on a lot of doors, I got to get my picture taken with the Donald. I said to him "stay focused in the debate". He said "I will" back. Hopefully that will help.

Otherwise, the speech was good. He mentioned the Clinton Cash scandal where the Clintons gave away our uranium to Pooty Poot. He also went into how he lost his shirt in the early 1990s housing / S&L bust and took tax writeoffs for that reason. This should work to defang the more recent set of Clinton lies.

So, I'm putting away the eyeball heroin and am regaining my cautious optimism, which the Boulder vampires were sucking out of me last weekend.

John Rawls is a name that few Americans are familiar with, let alone a name many, if not most, conservative are unfamiliar with. Yet his major works, "A Theory of Justice" and "Political Liberalism" have served as the lens through which Americans increasingly view society and the notion of "justice", much to our detriment. To whit, Rawl's has contributed to.

I was thinking about it as I packed. He fought for years against incredible odds, trying to stop slavery. In the USA just a few decades later, hundreds of thousands of white people fought and died to end slavery in that nation.

And it occurred to me that if the situation were reversed, were it blacks who held slaves of whites... would it have ever ended? They've never ended the practice of slavery in Africa.

171 I have a hard-on for truth, and weight someone's
characterization by where his interest lies. If a beekeeper said his
honey was produced by bees that hovered over cow shit, I'd believe that,
as an admission against interest. If he said his honey was produced by
bees hovering over Kate Upton's honeypot, I'd be a bit more skeptical.

Posted by: Deplorable Jay Guevara at October 03, 2016 11:40 PM (SRKgf)

If a beekeeper sets out his hives next to some humongous fields of clover (cow pasture) chances are most of the nectar they harvest will be from the clover. Sure some may come from the trees in the windbreaks, or wildflowers in the ditches, but if clover is the dominant vegetation species in the area, it's going to be the dominant nectar in the honey. Unless bees really, really hate clover, and I don't think they do. We have canola honey in Alberta. And there is cactus honey in Arizona.

196 87 I'm headed to the coast for a week with family in a beach house. I do this once a year, and its a nice restful time. Usually I take a film, and this year it's Amazing Grace, the story of William Wilberforce's fight to end slavery in England.

203 A writer at DC Comics has officially announced that Wonder Woman is bisexual. I think it makes sense.

Wonder Woman is of course Princess Diana of Themyscira (also known as "Paradise Island"). All of the people who live on in Themyscira are women, and all are immune to aging, and they have lived there for many centuries. So unless we assume they are all celibate all the time, there is plenty of woman/woman sex going on there, and that is what Diana grew up with. But she like-likes Steve Trevor, so she's not a lesbian, she's bisexual.

It's clearly a retcon but I'm okay with it. It doesn't contradict the old original canon (which, in the 1940s, never remotely touched the subject of sex in Themyscira); it makes sense; and it's not as egregious as other retcons I could name.

And it could have been so much worse: "By the way what's your sexuality?" "Why, glad you asked, I'm bisexual! And I'm cisgender and my pronouns are 'she' and 'her'! And while I'm technically not white, I pass easily for white and therefore I denounce myself for white privilege!"

http://bit.ly/2ddveSu

P.S. Apparently the Archie comics broke amazing new ground by having Jughead come out officially as asexual. It's so shocking and amazing that I never heard about this 7 months ago when it was announced.

240 I almost recognize that stuff at the very top of the thread. Back in the early '70's when I was a RadioMan (screw that new PC crap) in the Navy, we would create paper tapes with a five level code that, with training, you could read. And we were good at it. You would read the header Date/Time/Classification and record it on a paper log, slap it on a reader, hit send and it would go. We also had IBM punch card readers for huge items like milreps. They were routine messages that were requisitions like flour, uniforms, beans, staple kind of things and were really really long. Maybe five or six hundred cards long. It used to really piss us off when they got busted by a Flash message that meant that we had to start them all over again. A Russian Bear aircraft, or a Soviet nuke sub within five hundred miles would "bust" the message because those contact messages had priority.

War with Russia just kills other people's kids. trump victory cuts off the gravy train at best. His AG and DOJ send them to federal prison in my dreams, their nightmares.

Is homosexuality even actually a thing? Even the Centers for Disease Control rejects the term, preferrring "MSM" for Men who have Sex with Men, and "WSW" for women...

"Lesbians" first come to mind... I mean, what sort of effort does it require for a woman to be a lesbian? All those fading starlets who claim to have had a "lesbian relationship" in a cheap attempt to renew their relevancy, are they really lesbians? What can women actually sexually do with each other, (a lot, obviously!) but can we call that "sex"? Whatever it is, it certainly isn't sexual intercourse!

And the same could be said of many submissive male homosexuals ("bottoms") who cannot sustain an erection unto ejaculation in any sort of insertive encounter with another male to save their souls! ("Help! I Can't "Top" My Boyfriend! Is Our Relationship Doomed" is the actual title of an article I recall having seen somewhere.)

Now, the classic "pederast" of Ancient Greece, and such in other cultures throughout history may actually be a thing... Ask a homosexual for his opinion on age-of-consent laws if want to witness an interesting if not apoplectic reaction! And is there a single major gay-rights organisation that explicitly endorses existing AoC laws? Curious, that...

The whole gay-rights movement in the West is a carefully crafted PR stunt that has whitewashed the history of homosexuality and even the roots of its own formation, rather like the abortion rights movement which ignores its foundations in the discredited eugenics movement!

But the US and Russia are not coming to blows over ..... anything, anywhere.

The US lacks the will, competence, and interest to get into any conceivable fight. The Russians lack the interest or capacity for any actual fight over Syria, and won't have to face such a decision.

Underscoring the deterioration between the U.S. and Russia, Putin suspended a deal on plutonium disposal hours before the U.S. announcement. The two powers will still continue discussions on the Iran nuclear deal, Ukraine and other non-Syria issues.

US-Russia-relations-plummet-Syria-Ukraine.html

The fact that there are tensions over Syria is worth concern, but it's not the case that we have cut all diplomatic relations with Russia. The press, as usual, is largely incompetent. The poorly worded headlines suggest that we cut talks with Russia because we are pissed about Syria, instead of what we really did which is to just stop talking to them about Syria.

I will concede the first sentence. US leadership has no dick.
I will disagree on your second point. Putin wants to recreate the USSR. Any chance that he has to advance Soviet interests, he will take. They are bombing civilian targets in Allepo (Hello Gary) and they know there will be no pushback from our secretariat of state, nor the US.
For a while there was talk of a no fly zone over Syria, but that ship sailed as soon as the Russians moved in air assets. It would not do to have US aircraft shoot down Soviet aircraft. And I use the term Soviet very deliberately.

All true. I am expressing myself poorly here tonight and perhaps should not have ventured in. My point is Obama is not a Chamberlain, or others who were repulsed by the carnage and the horrors of war. Rather it's possible Obama could be unperturbed, untouched by the true horrors of war.

IMO, he doesn't have the knowledge, the experience or the empathy required to be a pacifist, or an isolationist on principle, a true believer. A lot of things are not "real" to Barack Obama. At one point IIRC it was said he took a bit of delight at drones hitting their targets. The suffering and beheading of hostages did not appear to shock him or require immediate attention.

I can him pushing too far, by accident and out of some idea that he can control this, and then we will be in and we will be without a plan, without a strategy, without an objective, without an end goal. Unless there are some qualified guys left who could command should it happen. I am not hopeful. But then again, it would be a stumble not a calculated plan that would get us into a war or a serious conflict.

2cents. And I am too tired to make sense also. So have a good night everyone. Thanks for hearing me out.

Everybody had a plan. The plans had timetables. Inflexible timetables. Anybody mobilizes, all mobilize. And then it starts.
Civilian control of the military was lax and they could not resist the pleading of their military to mobilize first before the other guy got the jump.

It was like watching one of those movies about the outbreak of nuclear war in the 60's.

If Grey could have spent a little more time telegraphing his embassies with constructive suggestions instead of burning his bridges with the Krauts in previous years, maybe this could have been defused.

And he certainly is arrogant, detached and feckless enough to blunder into some clusterf*ck before his time to establish his "legacy" runs out.

Good Morning Morons. Today is Tuesday, October 04, 2016. On this day in 1941 Norman Rockwell's Willie Gillis character debuted on the cover of The Saturday Evening Post. This was a fictional character that Rockwell put on the cover depicting this man's progress through the Army starting in boot camp. Not only did magazines demonstrate a patriotic fervor in that day and age, but so did the artists and entertainers of that age. Now if a military man made it on the cover of a MFM magazine it would most likely be to make fun of them or hold them in contempt. Such is how things have changed, and it is not for the better.

In addition one for the "protestors" made up a bunch of crap about her arrest and the judge even quoted that video evidence said she was lying. 497 It's grade-2 braille. The first dot is a capital indicator, showing that the next letter is contracted. All three words are capitalized, since they all start with the dot (called a dot-6). The first symbol after the capital indicator is "ch." The next is "ar." The fourth symbol in the next word is "ow," and the sixth is a comma. There aren't any contractions in the last word.

Yeah. That's a point it drove home. We're pretty much spectators in all of this. I remember a time when I had connections and influence, now I'm a nobody, and there's pretty much nothing left that I can do to stop this, and my mind's racing at trying to think of ways I might get out of it.

Being that it was the Sumerians, you just know they had the whole heat-resistant clay tablet technology for surviving re-entry down cold.

514 To be fair, there is so much already out there about Hillary that it is proving impossible to cover it all.

Robbing Haiti is buried.

Hillary's health is buried.

Pedo Island is buried.

Hillary pushing the ME foreign policy and burning is buried.

IT ALL GETS BURIED BY THE MSM!

515 Thank you Vic. Your news is most appreciated.

THink of all the great human interest stories, heroism, and liberation from bondage by military force in the 90's military. The media was silent or wrong.

One example: Sgt Donald Walters in 2003.

The media got almost everything wrong about the ambush involving Jessica Lynch.

Sgt Walters was the one who fought until he was out of ammo. He was wounded in four places, then captured by Fedayeen and executed with two shots while a prisoner. His covering fire saved a number of Americans. Even the Fedayeen admired his bravery.

His name was never mentioned by the media.

518 So Assange pulled a Trump-esque publicity and failed to produce the smoking gun? Why am I not surprised? And what difference, at this point, would it make? Dems/LIV's aren't going to abandon her for anything he could possibly produce, including murder.

Except documents showing that she secretly has reservation about the right to an abortion in the last trimester or would like to cut entitlements to manageable levels. THAT would cause a shit-storm and rush for the exits.

519 The comments over at Caplan's piece would be funnier if it didn't hurt to laugh. Politics is the art of taking by force what one cannot earn by exchange. It's never been anything else. It cannot _be_ anything else.

522 Assange has released big news before, and his prelude to this didn't promise a lot. But FOX said this morning, he would be releasing anything pertinent to the election, before the election. Paul Joseph Watson tweeted "Assange says no major leaks today. Wikileaks blue balls." ha

Seems OK that Assange tries to get some attention ... if it makes the news it just reminds the undecideds about all the things Hillary hides. He did reveal a lot of how the DNC manipulated Bernie voters, and now FOX has this former leader for Bernie, black woman that speaks well, now voting Trump. Heard her last night with Hannity scolding Hillary, saying she is no basement dweller, etc. Could be a real asset for Trump.

He didn't release anything, said leaks would be coming once a week before elections. But he seemed to be walking back on it's impact a little. Also, the whole thing was like a recruiting video/fundraiser type of event. He also seemed butthurt that he has been "misrepresented" by some regarding Hillary.

The media is pushing against Trump like I've never seen in my life. All the jello-brained undecideds out there are hearing is, "He called someone Miss Piggy?" and "Iron Man doesn't like him, and I want to be rich like Iron Man."

Ugh. The insufferable liberal women in my book club will be so gleeful. I may have to become a hermit or cultivate a drinking problem to get through the next four years.
