Fox notes five major companies who already have, or who are in the process, of moving out of the US due to high taxes and stifling regulations. I have noted several times the rapid decline of the US in the "Economic Freedom" index and this is a direct outgrowth of that. There is a reason real unemployment is up near 20%. Note also that Obama's corrupt IRS is issuing new regulations regarding taxes for companies who move out of the US. It will be interesting to see how they do that. CA and NY have tried that for companies moving out of their states and have not had a lot of success.

Good article that people who follow economic professor Thomas Sowell and other "real" economic professors should already know. But I have one bone to pick with the way he used the term "socialism" and the actions described in his essay. What he describes in his essay is actually "communism" but I can see how he is forced into using that term since there are no "democratic communist" countries and the US, though largely socialist/fascist is not a Democracy either. It is a Republic ruled by an oligarchy of "elected" tyrants. Socialism is a term invented by Karl Marx in the Communist manifesto. It is an intermediate stage between capitalism and communism. The Democrat liberals are responsible for redefining communism down to socialism because of the bad press communism got under Russia from the 1930s onward.
Under a socialist government system, although the government does not actually own the means of production and commerce, it acts to redistribute the wealth created by productive groups to certain segments of the society who are deemed "needy" and largely have not earned that largess themselves. It does this through various forms of high taxation on the productive elements of society (while the government slices off a large portion of that capital for themselves). The imposition of socialist governments creates a great incentive for people to cease work and go on the dole themselves, which is why these forms of economies never work. Common sense would tell you that everybody can not be on the dole.
That great French economist Claude-Frederic Bastiat said it best way back in the 1800s. Paraphrased from his essay, "The Law", he said that it was the responsibility of the government to protect the people from the looters, not to become the looter themselves. Ayn Rand expanded on this through her Objectivism philosophy in Atlas Shrugged.
And that Morons is what we have now, along with a huge swath of Fascism through stifling and unnecessary regulations.

I've done roughly half my career in Hawaii and Alaska. Probably the two most unique places out of the 50 states. I'm from the NY/NJ area, so Maryland isn't too bad. Plus I've got a ton of friends that live permanently in the MD/DC area, as opposed to Hawaii where all my good friends have already moved back to the states.
But Hawaii is just too damn far away from everything else. Folks were urging me to retire and apply for my job (as a gov't civilian), but I just have no desire to live out my days here.

NaCly Dog: Hard to have a finger on the pulse of the whole service, and as I alluded to above, I work in a very joint environment. Strange, as 99% of us are "deployed in place" doing a Pacific theater job. So we don't pay that much attention to the Middle East, and we rarely deploy from these slots in Hawaii (we do, but you have to volunteer and compete a bit).
And with my unique job, I really have no idea what goes on around the Air Base. I'm tucked away somewhere else on the island.
Election-wise, this is the quietest election cycle at work. Ever. Not sure if that's a product of people keeping their opinions to themselves... or (more likely) no one cares about the choices. Nothing like 2004 and 2008, with all the polite discussion during the primaries and the election. Weird.

Somehow, a discussion of the amount of chocolate that one should consume in one serving evolved into a 25 minute discussion ranging from school discipline, to safe spaces, and trigger words.
It was quite literally one of those rare moments when you encounter total strangers, and find that you could have talked for hours. All at a deep intellectual level, and all parties having a common belief that this nation is great.
And that it is in deep moral trouble, and heading in the wrong direction.

They're great. But the one I'm referring to is on about a five acre lot - no exaggeration. Easy to get in, easy to get out. But it's become a hangout because there's parking on three sides, with the gas pumps at the front.
They need to have some kind of security person (s). My wife reported the panhandler last time she was there, but someone had to stop what they were doing to chase the person away.
It's going to cut into profits to hire security, but you know what else cuts into profits? People staying away.

Unfortunately that was just as we were getting ready to start. Due to logistics we played two long sets with a short break and he had some place else he needed to be and had to leave before we took that break so I didn't get a chance to really talk to him.
Hopefully soon.
And damn if we didn't have a rough start. Never, in over 20 years of knowing the guy have I heard that out of him.

This has always been my mantra. And it's why I will criticize policy decisions he makes that I disagree with. If there isn't an outcry now about them, then he is sworn in thinking he has a mandate to do them.
Again, it does not in any way shape or form mean I won't vote for him. It means that I still believe what I believe, as do many people, and want him to hear it and stay on the right course instead of being Overton-Windowed.

I don't drink every much but I do pray a lot. I think I mentioned on this board a friend of mine-a pastor-who had a to do with a chronically mean and difficult treasurer. He prayed "Please let this thorn be removed from my side' in the hope, I expect that she would resign as church treasurer. However, she was an elderly man and she had a heart attack and died. Then my friend felt bad, I think. I am tempted to pray about George Soros-let this thorn be removed from our side (the side of the US, I mean), but I haven't don it yet. I can pray for conversion, but I'm doubtful it will happen.

The Grumpy Grandma has a similar 'condition' so she downloaded a free App called Waze. You tell it where you want to go and to avoid highways, tolls or whatever you want to set as a condition. It syncs through the phone to your car radio and gives you instructions with plenty of heads up time to react. And it has a moving map so you can see the route.
I would highly recommend it.
