92 (very) little opera humor: In all the Gustave Dore or Aubrey Beardsley inspired stagings of "Salome," Jack the Bap's head comes up from a well, on a covered platter, which is then uncovered to reveal the horror. Head's supposed to be fake, you know, but fashioned to resemble the singer.

So there was a famous prima-don, very vain, who sprayed his throat before the performance and then stuffed cotton in his nose and ears to protect the precious pipes right up until the moment he went on to sing. And everybody though he was an a-hole.

So, when the head comes up, the stage hand had stuffed the ears and nose with cotton balls. The cast broke up on stage, and they had to ring down the curtain.

As I mentioned yesterday, all I know about Pennsylvania politics is that Budd Dwyer was probably about as honest as any politician this country has managed to foist on us. And they managed to pin some rather shady crimes on him, when in fact his biggest crime appears to have been being unwilling to play ball with various Republicans who were otherwise cozy with the Bush family.

So he blew his own brains out on live tv.

What this broad did or did not do, I don't know. Until there's a public accounting for what happened to Budd Dwyer I'm going to assume the whole damned state is corrupt.

120 This is the most frightening depiction of Salome I've seen. The artist has captured her wild sexual appeal. It is, for her, a familiar tool or means to get what she desires. And she is entirely amoral about using her body, making her determined and dangerous. It is much more effective than other artists showing her dance or holding the platter of John the Baptist's head. The painting depicts a literal femme fatale. I wonder how women responded to it when first exhibited.

On a more prosaic level, I keep hearing the song "Whatever Lola Wants, Lola Gets" in my head. It doesn't seem so innocent after seeing this painting.

Speaking of Lola, there is a film out there, made in the 80s I believe, that depicts Salome is something other than fully female.

And the whole sordid affair was more or less something of an orgy that continued to get out of hand until somebody lost his head.

Admittedly I don't recall much of the details of the film, and while I cannot say I liked it, I think it was at least quite well done.

I think this is because a Walmart in a less affluent area has a much larger customer base, and employs locals who actually care about the people they serve. They likely have a much stronger cash flow and turnaround of items, and may be the major grocery retailer in the area.

I was in a Walmart in a small town in southern WV and it was extremely busy, from people getting new tires in the auto shop to grocery shoppers, to buying gas out front. Actually quite well stocked, Mr. Jen had forgotten to bring his swim trunks on vacation and we ended up finding a pair there that he still wears to this day....
This Walmart had an Optical office, a pharmacy, a bank that had not only tellers but a loan officer,
and a couple of other additional businesses whose name I don't recall. It was clean, very modern check out, etc.

133 Opera Humor? Here's the only classical music joke I know.

At the start the last rehearsal, the great conductor gives his orchestra endless, seemingly arbitrary changes to the score. These are radical changes in volume, tempo, and even key. Entire sections are taken out, and new ones added.

Finally, the lead soprano raises her hand.

"Maestro, is there anything you want me to change?"

"Not at all, my dear, not at all. Simply continue to sing as you've done throughout rehearsal."

I was talking to a friend the other day who was frustrated over the continuing support by the public of Hillary Clinton as evidenced by polls.

I believe that all of this continuous news stream of each and every illegal thing Hillary has done is being disbelieved by the public because people still have some sense of right and wrong and that wrongdoing will result in negative consequences via the law.

Since Hillary has not suffered a SINGLE consequence from law enforcement via the Federal government or the legislative branch, they have rationalized that she did nothing illegal, after all had she done so, she would have been prosecuted, etc.

They may understand the carelessness in her behavior, but think she won't do that again....

They believe the government has always been mildly corrupt and this is no different, and will never change, so why not keep the devil you know in place.

224 Chinas launch of the first quantum satellite Tuesday will push forward efforts to develop the ability to send communications that can't be penetrated by hackers, experts said.

The satellite launched into space from the Jiuquan launch base in northwestern Chinas Gobi desert will allow Chinese researchers to transmit test messages between Beijing and northwestern China as well as other locations around the world.

If the tests are successful, China will take a major step toward building a worldwide network that can send messages that cant be wiretapped or cracked through conventional methods.

It moves the challenge for an eavesdropper to a different domain, said Alexander Ling, principal investigator at the Centre for Quantum Technologies in Singapore. Lots of people around the world think having secure communications at a quantum level is important. The Europeans, the Americans had the lead, but now the Chinese are showing the way forward.

381 336 Your missing that she got other people to kill someone because her mother wanted them dead. And she did this by flashing her private parts unless the bible is using that as a euphemism.

Here are the relevent verses:

Mar 6:21 And when a convenient day was come, that Herod on his birthday made a supper to his lords, high captains, and chief estates of Galilee;
Mar 6:22 And when the daughter of the said Herodias came in, and danced, and pleased Herod and them that sat with him, the king said unto the damsel, Ask of me whatsoever thou wilt, and I will give it thee.
Mar 6:23 And he sware unto her, Whatsoever thou shalt ask of me, I will give it thee, unto the half of my kingdom.

Comments:

1. Not sure where the name "Salome" comes from, it's not in this text. There is another Salome mentioned elsewhere in the NT, but she is clearly a follower of Christ.

2. Also it is not clear that she was flashing her cooch at Herod, it just said her dancing pleased him, which could mean any number of things.

Humility is what we lack in all levels of society.

The elites think they know better than anybody else. According to the "educated," the generations who lived before us were stupid racists bigots because they didn't meet the sensitivity standards of 2016. They believed in Christianity and country and didn't believe in gay marriage so nothing they had to say is worth knowing or caring about.

Each victim group thinks nobody else has anything to teach them because nobody has suffered like they have. Nobody is willing to admit fault and accept blame anymore - everything bad that happens to them is someone else's fault.

And we wonder why our pols are so arrogant and unaccountable ?
