I fear that SCOAMF's approval rating is correct. When you have an MFM covering up for him and too many LIV's and leftists out there, of course his approval is at that level.

18 Just to add to MH's wonderfully fresh steaming dump, Michael Barone has a long piece out this morning that says the election is (contrary to Trumps efforts over the last week or so) still very much up for grabs. Mostly, he argues, because turnout is going to be lower than in the recent past and especially so in the younger demographics. SCOAMF won election because he turned out minority and youth voters in unprecedented numbers, and Hillary most probably will not.

So, for the poster who likes the dog stories, here's one about a dog rescuing a boy in Mexico who was lost (And no, the boy wasn't trying to get over the border. He was at a camp and got lost),

35 Matenloch retiring is a blow. He'll be heartily missed.

Something he alludes to in his letter to the horde bears some reflection, I think, and it is something that I have been "agitating" (poor choice of words perhaps) for, for a while now.

I believe that either consciously or subconsciously, our lives move toward what we anticipate. If you anticipate that things are good, or are going to get better, you tend to do those things that make that outcome more likely.

Again I would like to suggest that we consider thinking differently about things. That we step out of the trap that has snared evidently, a lot of the world. It doesn't have to be dramatic. You don't have to stop hating certain people, for example. All you have to do is consider not hating them. Put them on a list of people not to hate at sometime in the future.

I'll stress this a little bit by suggesting that this is less mumbo jumbo utopian BS than you might think. The SEALs are great at mental conditioning, and a lot of that mental conditioning revolves around not accepting negative outcomes.

What could it hurt, I submit, to at least try to move your bubble from the negative end of the level toward the positive? Center it, at the very least.

Just a thought.

37 And seriously folks, if your teenage child is hanging around an adult, unsupervised, in any capacity, you have to at least CONSIDER the possibility the person is there because they want to have sex with your child.

Teachers, coaches, scout leaders, and yes, religious personnel. You don't assume they're there simply for the love of mentoring yoots. Many of them are, but not all of them.

And it's impossible to watch a teenage gymnast leaping into the arms of a hulking male coach and not at least wonder about it.

48 Why would Obama's approval rating be high at this point?

Because the media tells the masses what to believe. The man has no successes whatsoever, but the press will never issue an iota of criticism, not of his miserable economic numbers, the miserable employment numbers, the foreign policy catastrophes, the dirty deals to push Islamism, the scandals, the graft, the infrigement on Constitutional rights or any of the other thousand ways he has found to fail.

I just believe that it is possible that we do influence our outcomes by what we expect. If this is true, and based on the overall tone, not only of here, but of basically everywhere, then we are headed for a very rough future.

And, if it is true that we may actually influence our outcomes by the expectations we harbor, why not try harboring some positive expectations and start shedding the negative ones?

I've been moving very determinedly and steadily in that direction for almost exactly one year. If you had known me a year ago and then met me today, you'd swear I was two different people. Hopefully, this me is a much improved version.

I could still support her, but if only she would keep her mouth shut and not criticize Goldstar moms. We need a fighter, but I'm so embarrassed by how she fights those awful Republicans.

She needs to change and stop right now and start acting presidential.

Is she healthy and mentally stable enough for the job?"

92 Inside Higher Ed is on topic, for a change. Latin mistake at UT Austin:
On a plaque to honor those killed in the Tower massacre, they used one -- count 'em, one -- Latin word, "Interfectum," meant to mean "To those killed."

Both the sense of that word for kill, and the case and number, are wrong. But but but here's the good part: "Why they didn't run one Latin word in the inscription past somebody in the classics department is sort of unfathomable to me," said Lesley Dean-Jones, chair of classics at the university. "We are 100 yards from the memorial, and nobody bothered to ask us."

I'll add that his comment would be much more concise in Latin. I make it ten words, not counting the yards-to-stadia conversion. If you're a Latin prof, every time you hear a chisel cutting stone, you owe it to history to run over and parse it.

Old, but good: The reason Ohio's motto "In God all things are possible" is rendered in English only is that if you put that phrase into Latin, it is also correctly read as "Oh God. Anything can happen." Having seen Ohio I concur.

105 OT this is a long one. Bear with me.

The Saga Continues: The Intervention

The gilded RV continues to roll across the land, the loudspeakers keeping up a constant barrage of talk. The incessant speaking awes some people as they claim that no human could keep up such a stream of consciousness for that long. "Perhaps it is the Golden Scalp Weasel," they say, "it is said the bearer would be a great bore." Others disagree, claiming that the bearer would be a great boor. "They are not the same word," it is said. Fights break out all over the internet over the simple disagreement, the flames hot.

As the internet flame wars continue, the fighters micro and macro aggressed, a gathering of robed beings gather around the RV, slowing it and finally bringing it to a halt. The tall figure with smaller than normall large hands rises to his full height and demands to know why the progress of the RV is halted.

"We are the Elders of GOPE," one robed figure intones. "We are here to get you back on track and prevent the ascension of the evil Hillary, Queen of the Encanckled, Cackler over the Doomed."

"You must heed our wise words of warning, for we have studied politics for many years and know the paths that can be trod and those that lead to the swamps."

"What is this, some kind of Sith Convention at a Star Wars nerd-out? Gingrich, Guliani, take off those robes - you look ridiculous and its 90 degrees out."

The two gratefully drop the robes and the Trumperor says "The least you could have done is wear undershorts. God that's disgusting. Very sad, not yuuge at all."

"Ignore this," Gingrich says.

'I may need therapy, at least the little guy will," Trump replies, the Golden Scalp Weasel whimpering its agreement.

"You must listen to us and not let yourself get distracted by everything the Encanckled one has her MSM minions throw at you. It weakens you and you lose your focus. We know how to win this."

"Really? You do? Then why am I up here and you're down there buck-naked on a two-lane asphalt highway in 90 degree heat? Look, I've watched you guys campaign for years. You get attacked all the time, little attacks, and you think 'hey it's just a little attack, ignore it' but it draws blood off of you. You save your strength for the great battle, some mythical political Trafalgar that will give you the crushing victory. And bit by bit you are worn down by the little attacks that when a big one comes along you don't have any strength left. I beat you guys all hollow by never ceasing to attack, never letting any attacker off easy, never letting any challenge go unanswered. Sure I may lose a fight here and there and that panics you right out of your britches," Trump pauses to mumble "sad, very sad," before continuing, "but you guys lose most of the fights because you won't fight at all."

"You must conserve your strength for the debates!" Gingrich cries, the others nodding their agreement. "The debates are where a rational explanation of policy can be done and win over the voters."

"Politics ain't rational, it's emotional," Trump says, sitting back down on his throne. "If it was rational we wouldn't have elections or political parties or policy debates." He motions the RV forward through the ranks of the Elders of GOPE. "Now go and get some clothes on and go attack Hillary and her little yapping purse dogs."

The RV grows smaller and faintly can be heard "Disgusting, walking around like that. Sad, very sad. Not magnificent or yuuge. Sad."

158 I drive 45 minutes to work. That's quite a bit of time to think.

I think, just from the outside looking in, that part of the sadz Obama has given so many during the last almost eight years is due to all the masks coming off. And people really, really liked the masks. Needed them, in fact, to square their own view of the world.

But now, they find that all the institutions they relied on are corrupt. The big family of liked-minded fellow travellers ain't
so like-minded. Turns out, Barry really did make most people question all their assumptions.

Like I said, 45 minutes is a pretty good chunk of time.

It's infuriating because a) Hilary is the most beatable candidate since forever (SOCAMF notwithstanding), and her unfavorables are disastrous, and
b) Trump has the ability to kick her ass as well as an audience outside of his hardcore supporters who desperately do want to get on board and support him

If he just picked his top 4 or 5 issues and hammered away at the key 4 or 5 Hilary weaknesses, out of dozens to choose from, it really is his election to lose.

But somehow, me pointing this out upsets everybody.

183 2 They are tearig down a church in France and they dragged out the priests and arrested the altar boy. Looked bad.

Yes, it looked bad but there was more to it than the optics.

They were not interrupting a regularly scheduled Mass, but a protest by the group that had been using the church. The church, unlike most in France which are owned by the state, was privately owned and had been sold.

The group was occupying the building and had barricaded the entry.

Would have been smarter for the police to let them finish Mass and then arrest them.

So, they weren't being harrassed primarily for being Catholic, but for being trespassers.

see BLM, etc.

190 Just some random observations....

The exodus of cobloggers due to burnout doesn't help matters. Perhaps it would help if there was better, less demanding scheduling and some way for these writers to share in some way of the blog's success.

A blog manager would help. Leave writing to Ace and others, but have the backroom run by someone who can bring order to chaos.

Have certain features run at specific times so that not only readers, but other media can depend on AoSHQ's take on current events. Bring back the podcast with more professional moderation. Establish a format where the signature sockpuppets can continue, but where visuals can be added in the comments.

Promote the blog in a manner just as shameless as Red State and Hot Air. Make Ace and the prime cobloggers minor celebrities so that they might get laid once in a while.

Use the traffic to generate money by adopting an Ann Althouse approach to tapping every transaction any of her readers have. Open a serious web store to capitalize on the creations that happen here. Actually have premium memberships. Position this blog to eventually be sold for far more than it's worth to someone extremely stupid.

Bring ex-cobloggers back, especially CAC. He established a good poll watching website, but doesn't have the editorial content to keep the numbers up. By tying the two sites together in a big election cycle, CAC and Ace could be bigger than Nate Silver.

There is plenty of other things that could help, but the general idea is to make AoSHQ a money making business instead of a hobby.

4) foreign governments have the emails, so does Trump

219 I think Maet's exhaustion is felt by a lot of people these days.

It's the result of living in a Community Organizer's world.

The whole purpose of community organizing is blackmail via useful idiots. You stir the pot rhetorically and by financing the proper people to get unleash chaos and violence-

then the c.o. promises to restore order if only he gets "x", usually money directly or indirectly and

two, which is important, a "victory" for the useful idiots.

But, with TFG (and Soros) in the driver's seat and the Republican party adopting a handsfree policy on steering the nation-

every single day is a fresh round of chaos.

And it's driven good people nuts-

which is, of course, part of it's purpose.

It's why I've been withdrawing from the Trump Wars, (though I let myself be drawn back in yesterday).

because I have given myself a positive mission.

I have kids. I want them to have a good world with good jobs. Hillary guarantees a bad world and crippled America. Trump may make things better.

I'm going with may make things better. End of story.

As history has shown, once you allow a sufficient number of muslims into your society, your choices simplify down to two:

1) Go through the violent and bloody mess of expelling them

2) Submit to muslim rule

Historically, there is no other choice. Oh, some will blather about a 3rd way. But, those are people who don't take religion seriously and assume muslims don't either.

France is currently at that crux in their history.

230 Back to local news for a moment.

Baltimore County Police have seen historic surges in threats agains Police Officers in the wake of Korryn Gaines death in a shoot-out with local Officers

And couple that with this thread from Zip's place.

http://www.weaselzippers.us/?p=287790

And to put the three into real perspective,

Baltimore Prison was so over-run by BGF that Governor Hogan took the unheard of step of suddenly and completely shutting it down, and relocating prisoners.

They Could NOT stop the rot within the Prison.
To the point that three female guards were pregnant with the children of the reputed BGF leader in the prison.

BGF has ties to everything.

231 "Oh and Clinton +4.

In GEORGIA.

Posted by: Ostrich with head in sand"

Can't believe that as the Dems are always yapping about flipping Georgia and fail year after year. However the trend is unmistakable, mostly due to massive immigration, legal and illegal. Many of the first anchor babies are becoming eligible to vote and they are the tip of the iceberg. They have all been raised with massive assistance from the nanny state and will vote to keep her safe and healthy.

Trump can afford my advice. Ace can't.

234 I don't need the silly negativity generated by trolls stirring the pot. Posted by: naturalfake

When you see someone, week after week, be near the top of the top ten commenters list, then day after day denigrate the only candidate who can defeat Hillary Clinton -- well tough to call that person a troll.

It's extremely disheartening. It's almost as if some people who know just what exactly is at risk still don't give a fuck.

Guess which prison gang the government concentrated on the most to bring down?

There's a restaurant in Chinatown called Big Wong. Same deal.
