Truth be told, I built it when their predecessor, Harley was still alive. And he was a 12 year old mature cat when we moved into the house.
He'd lived the previous seven years aboard boat with me, but before that in San Antonio, he had a similar custom cat box room, enclosed within a cabinet out in the garage, which opened into the laundry room in the house.
So, when we got Bonnie n' Scamp, the cat bathroom was already here awaiting them.
It works, the box get scooped once or twice a day, and there's never an odor.
Works for the human occupants, too. No box to trip over anywhere, or be unsightly out in the open.
I'm happy enough with it.

I went off to read the story. Very sobering. I got my second degree from A&M in 1982 (chemical engineering) but was a two-percenter because my studies were difficult and I didn't care for the rah-rah. Still, it's a great school and I enjoyed my time there.

He later asked me if I ever saw his older brother's (my Uncle Rich) letters to home from WWII as a sniper over in Europe (France, Germany, Holland, Belgium). I said no and he went to his office and came back with a 3 ring binder of letters from January 29, 1944- May 25, 1945. Wow...I never knew.
Just wondering if there is any interest here at Ace's place for me to post so others can also read a WWII soldiers letters to back home?

The movie has... issues. The setting and tone at times feel like horror, quite a bit for a Disney movie. However, they also mix in at various points the wacky droids, which usually kind of derailed the tenor that they had set up to that point. Mix in a sound track that does very well for the dark parts, but feels strained during the action sequences (kind of a rip off of Star Wars and Battlestar Galactica.)
Plus, the ending just kind of goes weird. What exactly did Maximilian and Reinhardt do at the end there?

Even as a kid I liked that it wasn't the typical Disney fluff (loved Johnny Quest because bad guys actually died). The bots were cool too.
Read the book... a long time ago. Max and Reinhardt merge and become one because of the black hole or something. It was a type of punishment if you will.

It's amazing that any of the B-29 crew pipeline ever finished training.
Per the recollections of a pilot who entered the B-17 sequence as a recruit, then got yanked and put into the B-29 training, at a time when the manuals were still being written as the plane was built, the B-29 was a whole different ball game.
Far more complex. So much stuff to remember, and so much that could go wrong.

A good friend's father just completed training and was on his first deployment - as a pilot of an SB-2C dive-bomber on a fleet carrier - bound from Pearl to Ulithi when the emperor's recorded message over Japanese radio ended the festivities.
His scrapbook - with excellent photos, including the "classified" one showing him ditching his F-8 Bearcat a few years after the war - had the words "just too late" penned under the last photo of his SB-2C on the carrier deck.
So - consider that as well.

Missiles, most likely. Weapons, in any case, so powerful, that a direct hit equals a kill. And if the opponents' vessel has adequate shields, if one gun cannot pierce them, neither can a whole battery. Better to have a diversity of weapon types, so if one type fails to get the job done, another may. Backups, of course. But a whole battery of guns, firing a broadside? Nope.

A spherical planetoid allows for almost no blind spots left uncovered. But if like Drake is thinking 'Ship of the Line' of course the whole broadside won't be able to bear. But enough will to ream any ship design like the space battleship Yamato's axial design from one of that ship's many blind spots. Unless the planetoid's captain allows the Wave Motion Gun to lock on. Yeah, 144 million stated budget (and I am sure they spent a ton on advertising too) and already less than half the opening total.
Someone should lose their job. They can do their social programming all they want, the film actually has to be good though.
Although it is kind of interesting to ask: if they had not made it into a political/social chew toy with their marketing and response to critics of the trailers, would it have done better or worse?

The actors didn't know their characters well enough to pull it off. So even if Feig hired the likes of Paul Rudd, Jim Gaffigan, Kevin Hart, and Bill Burr it still would have suck the sewers of the Bronx on a hot, wet night.

He mentioned that in red square, I think it was, tourists could openly buy art that the soviet authorities used to 'critique with bulldozers.' A lot of reviews seem to be of the opinion that "the actors were decent. The story was shit." I almost wonder if someone at Sony saw the early cut and went " oh god this is shit!" And decree pushing the feminism angle was its only hope.
I think it probably would have wound up the same way even if they didn't go all out on the "if you don't like it you hate women" angle.
And the story is Feig's fault. He's the one that wanted the full reboot and no connection to the original.

These Belgium people sure are nice to us, they haven't much for themselves but what they have they share gladly with us.

If you can't read this writing it's because I am writing it on the back of a cow and the critter won't stand still.
We have about 8 inches of snow and it's still coming down. We get pretty good food but it can't compare with home cooking. When I get home you will be busy cooking all the things I would like to have again. The cookies were still very good because you wrapped them well.
The fudge was good. Believe it or not but I made some the other day. We took over a house in a captured town and I was cook for the day. We picked up a few extra rations including sugar and cocoa so I made the boys some fudge.
We were up at the front for a while and they dropped a few shells on us but for every one they sent over we sent a hundred back.
I am wearing a dish towel for a scarf so please send me one.

I do not even think the idea of the women cast was a terrible idea, on it's face. I think it was the deliberate pissing on the fans of the originals that was the real kicker.
Obviously you could not do a direct sequel. Murray seems to have no desire to do it and Harrold Ramis is dead. If you were going to d o it with a new cast, trying to pull in the fans of the old one seemed to be a wise move to make, from a money side of things.
Reboots make money because you have a core of fans of the originals who want to see what you did with it. Reboots do not work if you look at everything that made the original popular, and then say, ok let's get rid of all of this.

As Comic Book Girl 19 on YouTube commented about the original Ghostbusters, Gozer was supposed to have been the first boss monster they encounter 20 minutes into the film and then they realized they would need a $300 million budget for the whole movie. So they set their sights lower and made it about how it all started.
Apparently no one told Feig to stop. And he apparently never told the actresses to stop at any time. So you have dog vomit on the screen.

Plus ad-libbing was one of the great strengths of the original. Bill Murray's part had originally been created for John Belushi and Murray had some gaps to fill in. Some of his most memorable lines were not in the shooting script.
It seems like Feig has a standing resentment of every movie he ever felt like an outsider when watching with straight guys and is determined to avenge himself. Even if it means shitcanning his career instead of sticking to the highly successful niche he'd carved out for himself, comedies aimed mainly at women but not painful for the guys who lost the coin flip for who chose the night's flick.

The ending was a representation of Dante's Inferno/Purgatory. Reinhardt became literally a Demonic Prince. If you read the novelization of it, it explains that the crew is flattened into a molecular pancake and they are in "heaven" via Kate's ESP(n.)
The comic book adaptation took the shuttle "making it" literally and had Maximillian/Reinhardt chasing the Crew in a new universe.
My son loved the Black Hole, and had it been on time, it would have been at worst a year after SW:ANH.
The Black Hole was a weird mix of the very old and some very innovative tech, of course it stumbled badly in some ways and is one of those films that HD treats unkindly.

Back in the day, even if you never had a reason to go to anything in the Antelope Valley, it was where you passed through on the way to Las Vegas depending on where you were starting. A few years back they finally connected the 210 to the 15, making for a much simpler route that many preferred even if it was a fair bit longer.

Plus ad-libbing was one of the great strengths of the original. Bill Murray's part had originally been created for John Belushi and Murray had some gaps to fill in. Some of his most memorable lines were not in the shooting script.
It seems like Feig has a standing resentment of every movie he ever felt like an outsider when watching with straight guys and is determined to avenge himself. Even if it means shitcanning his career instead of sticking to the highly successful niche he'd carved out for himself, comedies aimed mainly at women but not painful for the guys who lost the coin flip for who chose the night's flick.

Amen, I was raised by people just older than the Boomers, although technically I guess mom in Oct of 45 was one rest her soul.
Our culture is stupid and addicted to magic thinking, failure is the handmaiden of progress. We have to allow engineers the room to fail so they can grow and test new paradigms. The loss of life while tragic pales in comparison to some other engineering disasters.
The modern western left are at heart cargo-cultists, they think this species of upright chimps with forethought magically woke up one day and voila had internet, flight, and a slew of other technical marvels. The narcissism in "only now matters" drives me to the verge of insanity. Our species is at most 300,000-1,000,000 years old, and it is only in the last 5500 years or so we have documented historical proof of a record.
There was a LOT of hard work, and failure in getting to this 5500 year old span, and there are a lot of immutable truths to the human condition big thinkers with big ideas that never work think they can magically undo.
Sorry to be a downer, I just think when we leave it will be with a whimper not with a bang.

Well, IMDB says he has been married to a woman since 1994 but he is as affected a personality as I've ever seen. Such types were generally assumed to be closeted in the past when it wasn't publicly acceptable. No children are mentioned, so perhaps the wife is a beard.
He may not be gay but he makes himself out to be someone who was never comfortable in the company of typical straight men. He recently wrote a piece, I suppose intended as satire, in which he insisted men were not funny. The caricature he painted of 'men' struck me as saying more about himself than his subject. I've never fit his profile of 'men' but that doesn't change the fact that despite both of us liking MST3K and some other stuff in common, that his personality would really start to get on my my nerves with prolonged contact.

Hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars were funneled into this project. They "refurbished" exactly one house. Which immediately collapsed because the scam-artist instructors, who didn't have a clue what they were doing, removed a critical support beam.
I'll see if I can find a newspaper clip, it was funny in an infuriating way.

One of our sons, who was a student at A&M Galveston at the time had gone to CS to be with friends working the bonfire build. When we awoke to that news or hearts damned near stopped. One of his friends had jumped off that pile minutes before it fell. A son of the owner of the company I work for also missed it by minutes.
Gig 'em. That was a tough deal for A&M and the friends and families that were impacted.
