Red Letter Media Reviews the Ghostbusters Remake
Roger Ebert once observed that a movie had completely failed in its purpose if after watching it you had the impression that a film of the crew chatting over lunch would have been more interesting. Well the Ghostbusters remake may have failed in the Ebert-sense since I suspect the Half In the Bag review of it played twice would still be funnier than the actual movie. Especially once they start drinking Dan Aykroyd Crystal Head vodka and Ecto Coolers about 15 minutes into it.
So watch and enjoy. And just remember that they hated this movie only because it wasn't funny it didn't know how to setup jokes it violated screenwriting 101 it tried to copy the original without understanding why the original was funny Paul Feig is a hack they hate women.

According to Bavaria's Interior Ministry, a 17-year-old Afghan shouted "Allahu Akbar" before launching the attack using a knife and axe. The suspect was shot dead by police as he attempted to flee the scene.
Since he arrived as an unaccompanied minor, no one really knows how old the attacker is or possibly his true identity.

Gun control advocates often claim that the Founding Fathers couldn't have conceived of repeating rifles when they drafted the Second Amendment to the Bill of Rights. The history of Joseph Belton, an inventor and gunsmith from Philadelphia, and his correspondence with the Continental Congress proves otherwise.Belton claimed to have devised a new form of flintlock musket that was capable of firing as many as sixteen consecutive shots in as little as twenty seconds. After the gun had fired its consecutive loads, it could then be reloaded individually like all other traditional weapons of that time.
Bolton wrote to Congress about his new invention on April 11, 1777, letting them know he could be available to demonstrate it to them at any time.
Intrigued by Belton's claim, Congress ordered 100 examples of his "new improved gun." They authorized him to oversee the construction of new guns, or alteration of existing guns, so that they were capable of discharging eight rounds with one loading and that he "receive a reasonable compensation for his trouble, and be allowed all just and necessary expences [sic]."
But Belton wanted a lot of money for his guns - 1000 pounds per state that used it.
Having received the letter immediately, Congress resolved that same day to refer Belton's petition to the Board of War, made up of five delegates. Among these five delegates were future 2nd President of the United States, John Adams, and Benjamin Harrison V, father and great-grandfather of the 9th and 23rd Presidents of the United States, respectively.Nine days later on July 19, Congress got word from the Board of War. They dismissed Belton's petition altogether. At this point, he must have finally gotten the hint that Congress wasn't going to authorize such exorbitant payment for his services because the historic record turns up no more correspondence between Belton and Congress.
Despite the fact that Joseph Belton failed to convince the Continental Congress to outfit colonial soldiers with his repeating rifle, it's still a very important story. Belton invented his gun in 1777. The Bill of Rights wasn't ratified until 1791.

I've been an sea ice watcher for a # of years now at WUWT. Antarctic ice extent is down a bit this year atm from its 20 year average. But it is really hard to make valid comparisons since the main satellite they used for tracking sea ice puked out about 4 months ago (conveniently??) and so they are doing it with a backup method of some sort.

I've noticed that Google analytics occasionally start loading really slow but it seems to come and go and doesn't happen on every reload when it appears
The other big issue is that when you load the front page every single item on every post gets loaded - even if they're under the fold. So embedded videos get to be painful.

there were a number of super-imposed load rifles and muskets. Generally they were a charge with a bullet with a fuse through it so the top load - that is the one closest to the muzzle - would fire, and start the train through the next bullet and the next load, and so on.
It would be like firing a Roman candle, which it has been likened to. Hard to stop and restart in the middle.
Also, the bullets had to be loaded exactly right, have a flame-proof seal against the barrel's interior and they couldn't be slightly undersized or you ran the risk of having several charges go off at the same time and you wound up with maybe a pipe-bomb on a stock in your face.
And using it afterwards as a standard gun would have been interesting, unless there was a secondary lock and touch hole, the touch-hole was waaaaay up front and ahead of your charge and bullet.
There were some interesting variations later developed, one had multiple touch-holes for each separate load, and a lock that slid up and down the barrel so you could ignite each one individually.
I expect the last charge was fun, since it would pop off and you would have various touch-holes down the barrel venting fire and smoke sideways at the same time.
Like a black powder flute.

The other big issue is that when you load the front page
every single item on every post gets loaded - even if they're under the
fold. So embedded videos get to be painful.

When the guns fire they are at a downward angle of about thirty degrees. Yet both dudes are struck a fatal blow. Gaaaaahhh!

I thought Melissa McCarthy was funny in "Bridesmaids", but she hasn't been in anything good since. There's a sitcom with her where she is just completely unfunny. It's awful. I'd say he was half right. Telling a story in the most straight forward way is certainly a useful technique, but it can also be interesting to experiment with the form. Not only interesting for the filmmakers and critics, but also interesting for the audience.
But, only an
intellectual wannabe could think that only form matters. The most innovative film techniques are pointless if they are not used to tell a story that has meaning to the audience.

IRON SKILLET UPDATE!!
I think I ruined its seasoning the other night burning the taco meat, and tonight I was able to finally catch some fish (5 brim,perch and sun) and decided to fry em up..
As soon as I put the first one in it stuck to the bottom of the skillet.
But I got around that spot, and ended up with some pretty nice fried fillets!
Guess I'm gonna have to re-season the SOB again. eh..
Good news is im 5 pieces into the batch, and 5 to go in a couple hours!

Tonight we celebrated the Mrs' birthday and her brother's birthday with her parents. Everyone but me is running late getting to the restuarant with the Mrs being an hour and a half late since she go a last minute project dumped on her right before she was supposed to leave.
Brother in law, who is moving across country tomorrow, decides he is going to start throwing back some stiff drinks while waiting. The whole time he is drinking he is bitching about not having any money and how he can't wait to get out of town. We eat dinner, and mother in law decides it is time to open gifts. He wants to go, she asks him to open his birthday cards, he gets pissed. Finds a check they gave him to help, he rips it up, throws the gift cards they got him to help with travel expenses at them, and dumps the box of snacks that they put together for him on the table and then proceeds to cuss them out, in the restuarant. Did I mention the in laws are in their 80's? They are. FIL has emphesema, MIL had a brain anuerysm 20 years ago, so both are elderly and not in good health. Not only did he cuss them out in a busy restuarant, he walked out the door and returned 3 times to keep doing it just in case anyone missed what he had to say, and to top it off, he called the MIL and left a message on her cellphone to never try to reach him again.
Have I said that I am so fucking happy that this cockholster has finally decided to move out of town? Yeah, I am. Sick and fucking tired of him doing this kind of shit to everyone, and then in a couple of months calling up wanting to "borrow" some money. He can fucking lick my bag from now on.
So, long story short, a birthday dinner takes 5 hours because my in-laws are so damn upset now and think they did something wrong.

People seem to have a hard time remembering some times, but that was a damn good speech- coming at exactly the right time. It scared the every loving shit out of the dems for what it appeared to show: A charismatic, intelligent, down to earth, conservative woman who connected with the audience better than any conservative had in a generation.
They saw in her the same thing a lot on the right did- a female Ronald Reagan. That is why they went after her with everything they had.
Now it turns out, we were all wrong, but I will always have a soft spot for her because of that one speech. For 15 mins, I was 11 years old listening to RR on the TV talking about the Challenger accident.
Sure it was silly, and wishful thinking, but it was a real moment.

This is a problem. I remember reading about one RA patient who got Shingles like 5 times in a year or something like that.
I've had it twice before, last year. And that's why the doc wrote a big bottle of the acylcovir, the anti-viral. In case it comes back. And there's a good chance it has.
So near an eye is problematic as well. It never has gotten in there yet, but the trouble is the damn virus is hiding in those nerves that are all around my right eye. Third time might be the charm for getting in that eye, though.

I mentioned several days ago that I know this priest who supervised chaplains in the military. Apparently this was under some branch of the State Dept. He didn't know her personally, but he said that it was a general belief there that Hillary was mean-not just "mean' as in all people can occasionally have a temper-but "mean" in a pathological sense Also, she hated anything to do with faith being brought up in the State Department.

Except her campaign commercials do. I think. I can't really watch them. There was one on last night that had someone talking to Trump and Trump saying how he watched TV. (again that was what I remember). However HILLLARYYYY has done soooooo much when she was working including being tough with Putin.

It told me there was a "zOMG" security alert.
It then delted a browser I used for the AoSHQ
I reintsalled the browse, but the core file kept on disappearing.
I updated security alterts with Windows and all of the sudden some programs wouldn't load and I didn't have internet connectivity.
I de-installed the updates, and the problems persisted.
I de-installed Zone Alamn and everyting became fine.
I tried re-installing Zone Alarm and the computer DERPed with the final screan not showing anything after loading beyond the background color.
I was able to purge the computer of Zone Alarm and everthing seems fine.
Just a warning to all of you out there...

I still use Opera 12 as my main browser, and use either Brave or Pale Moon as my secondary.
Otter as been fine, the problem I'm dealing with isn't browser based...

In Clark County (home of Las Vegas and most Nevada voters), the GOP central committee is filled with idjits. For almost a decade control has flipped between "our way or nothing" Trump/Paul supporters and supporters of the squish (though politically successful) Governor. At the moment, the Trump people are the establishment.
In the rural counties, they are Trump acolytes.
Nevada was the one Senate contest where the GOP could have picked up... now, we are doomed along with the rest of the country to absolute DOOM.

In the early '80s, the red circle-and-slash was everywhere. It was everywhere by 1983; the most mundane thing was automatically funny if it incorporated the red circle-and-slash. The original Ghostbusters co-opted this time-specific touchstone and proliferated it. In 1984, with that logo, the movie couldn't miss.
It's 2016, and that logo (and its elements) doesn't connect with us culturally. Now what they could have done to make it relevant was to augment the old logo with social-media logos - you know -
"We're the Ghostbusters! Like us on Facebook. Follow us on Twitter. Check us out on Instagram. Erin's on Tinder. We're also on Snapchat, whatever that is." Wordy, perhaps, but I'd find it funny.
