They would say whatever they thought was most likely to get them a sale and I don't think that the concepts of truth/lies or reality/fantasy ever intruded into their consciousness. Hillary Clinton was trained as a lawyer and that is a profession where reality seems to be whatever the most talented lawyer can argue enough people into believing. She is surrounded by a lot of younger people who have been educated in the whole Post Modern philosophy that there is no such thing as reality, only competing narratives and power.

I usually make the regular (Sullivan St. Bakery) No Knead Bread version and add about a quarter cup of grated Parmesan and some chopped up freshly roasted garlic cloves. Love that with a hearty stew.

Good for you RD. We had an interesting encounter w/ our water/sewer dept a few yrs ago.
After many yrs of trouble, ie sewer backups, it was discovered we were running into an old cesspool, not connected to the sewer system.
I had some leverage as the family farm had sold them the land for the sewer dept and recently sold more for an expansion. They got good money, but didn't hold them up for extortion as they felt a civic duty.
So I asked for my money back as I hadn't used the sewer system I was paying for, close to 20 yrs.
They offered me 1/4 back, I said no, was gonna take them to court. We settled for 1/2, so there has been no sewer charge since.
I'm thinking/hoping they forget when they should start charging us because I think it should have happened by now.
I'm not going to inquire or remind them. I should have gotten 100%.

There's several weights but the standard they all seem to agree is the best is to define pure glucose as 100.
The glycemic load multiples the GI by the weight of a portion size.
Insulin index looks at the actual insulin response to a given food of a fixed calorie content, and is the area under the curve of the insulin level.
Two foods with the same GI or GL do not have to have the same insulin index.
And non-carbs, such as a big steak, will have a (low) insulin response. This is the body converting protein to glucose.

Back in the primordial soup days of Compuserve, one of the best forum sysops, GG, was swift and strict. She never let trolls and disruptors linger. She had her strict rules (warning, temp ban, full ban, if you were lucky; immediagte full ban if you were really bad).
She never let the "whuttabout free speeeech?" arguers whine about her bannings linger, either. She'd ban them. Other good sysops on that service did the same.
Mostly, she never talked about it much - she just did her job, keeping the streets safe for normal folk. It wasn't that GG was hard-hearted; it's just that she understood what it took to keep the peace and did it.
When I read Ace fuming about the bannings he does, I think, despite his porcupine exterior and seeming anger, what's really happening is, he's a nice guy, a soft-hearted fellow who doesn't much like the (absolutely necessary) job of playing Cop. Ticks him off to have to do it, even though it comes with the territory of having created the best such place on the web.
I've been a parent, a boss, a landlord, even briefly a sysop, and I know it's not fun banning, evicting, firing, or grounding. If you don't, though, all good folks leave.

Hydrogenated oils are called that because they have extra hydrogen atoms on the end of their lipid chains. Unsaturated fats are missing one of the extra hydrogens and polyunsaturated fats are missing more than one. Saturated fats are 'bad' for you because it takes more energy to digest them (that pesky hydrogen doesn't like to break off from the rest of the molecule) so the body is more likely to store them in your fat cells. IOW, eating a given caloric quantity of potatoes gives you the same insulin response at eating the same quantity of Mars Bars. But potatoes are a vegetable, not junk food. The "satiety score" of potatoes is much higher, meaning they make you feel fuller, but the insulin load is the same.
Crackers, ice cream, and cookies are hitting around 90ish on the insulin index. White Rice is 80.
Beef is 51. Peanuts are the lowest listed, with a score of 20.
Now, there is considerable variation, looks to be around 10-15%, meaning there is that much variation in the insulin repsonse of the sample members to the test with each food.

SO eating N calories of pasta results in a lower insulin response by a little than eating N calories of beef.

Trump's angle has been to come down extremely strongly for the cops. He isn't taking on BLM directly very much. Heck, even Sen Tim Scott was on TV earlier talking about how black men are targeted by police in this country. So I would be surprised if he attacked it head-on, at least very much.
A couple of points noteworthy to me at least:
1, Trump does have a possibility of entree with blacks, and not just conservative blacks. He's got ties with Don King and Mike Tyson and the boxing community and even a rapper or two I believe. He's making a play on decent jobs for blacks. Will any of it pan out? Who knows, but at least he has an identity and name recognition already cemented with his TV celebrity among the LIVs.
2, Hildabeast and the JEF are looking at the real polling, not the b.s. that the MSM is serving up now pre-convention which has Ace so depressed. I think they are worried. I'm betting they think they need that 95% black vote and high turnout for Hildabeast to win and if that requires a large pile of cop bodies to get there, so be it. I think they're less worried about "silent majority backlash" since we're not the same country we were in Nixon's day and they've had many years of ideological indoctrination of the younguns.
So I expect to see more of the same from them, with their street allies and the MSM continually pouring gasoline on it and Barry and Loretta playing the game from above.

I predict a couple of results. Atlanta cops who can take early retirement are going to do so. Atlanta cops who have only a few years in are going to look for jobs in other towns. Soon there will be a lot of vacancies in the Atlanta PD and a much higher percentage of rookies. That is not likely to be a good combination when there are likely to be a lot more delicate situations that require smart and careful handling to avoid blowing up. Expect a lot of avoidable blow ups to occur due to avoidable mishandling.
Businesses will stop moving to Atlanta and businesses will start leaving. I am not sure if this will be regarded as white racism or bad luck. Businesses that remain in the Atlanta area are likely to relocate to suburban towns.

Naturally hydrogenated fats aka saturated fats have the hydrogen binds in cis position.
Trans fats, because their shape is different, are difficult for the body to process and causes heart disease.
Naturally occurring saturated fats are ok. So are unsaturated fats.

Seemed kind of out of the blue, even in an open/wandering thread. Anyway, that's what I think I saw. I don't recall him last night being anything memorably bad, but I may have missed it.
I find most of the threads revolving around race-charged incidents becoming tedious, even repetitive with apocalyptic s**t that I find implausible.
Not that I am extremely sunny about things (ha!) - but I see non-kinetic, gradual, boiling-frog degradation of our civic culture and institutions as ongoing and more likely to describe the "end times". Whimper, not bang. So all the armed conflict apocalyptic stuff is just boring.

One of the BEST things they do, is have the actors chew the heck out of dialogue, in ways that are both entertaining and oddly, just slightly off from reality. It's an effect that creates an edge to scenes, in ways that turn something that would otherwise seem ordinary, into the extraordinary.
This movie is chock full of it. Bad guys who are superb in their roles, Bridges doing what Bridges does, and the little girl who played the kid was wonderful.

No one has been banned for their particular political views - it was their behavior that got them tossed. AmishDude can come back when he feels he can control himself in the comments. At this point his absence is mainly voluntary.
eman was consistently snarky, and even nasty. Moo moo was half troll/half legit commenter but 95% a shit-stirrer. Both IMO on the whole made this blog a worse place. Sometimes when people have been around for a long time we just get used to them and their behavior when maybe we shouldn't.
Just because a regular commenter doesn't do anything actionable in particular does not mean that they don't have a cumulative corrosive effect on the comments in general. And the damage is often invisible - new readers take a glance at the comments and decide to go somewhere else more pleasant, long-timers either start self-censoring or just quietly move on and stop commenting.
I've been involved with online communities for over 30 years and I've seen pretty much every possible discussion forum scenario play out at some point. A healthy thriving comment section is actually more fragile than you think. It only takes a handful of jerks to completely disrupt the spirit and mood of the comments. If you get a critical mass of them, then it starts to make jerk behavior the new social norm which turns the comments into a toxic place that eventually drives away all the contributing good commenters as well as any possible new ones. If unchecked, this eventually spirals down to a new uglier, nastier equilibrium or simply a dead forum.
So ask yourselves why so many former regular morons and almost none of the Cobs post in the comments anymore. And for every one that you know of there's probably five or more that you don't.

Even with the best intentions and wisest King on the throne, how could a monarch thousands of miles away decide what justice should be in a dispute between two people? The judgement couldn't help but be tainted by aspersions and unrelated experiences in no way related to the matter at hand, nor reflective of the unique needs and culture of a community. Wouldn't this centralization also, again assuming the best of intention, lead to suffocating the unique development of communities and favor priorities of those closer to the seat of power over the needs and priorities of its distant vassals?
We've completely forgetten all that. Even the few of us who know better. Our first response to any incident is waiting breathlessly for what our benevolent leader will say from his lofty perch.
Would it not be easier and better for all if the family, friends and neighbors in the community in MN were to decide if the actions of the officer sworn to protect them were justified or not? Might not those people, who actually know the deceased and the officer have more to offer than some organizer in Dallas, a politician from DC (presently in Europe), or the presumed successors to the throne?
Perhaps we could consider that that wild idea that a jury of ones peers make a better judge and is more likely to pass just sentence than some scholar in a black robe or unemployable lawyer in a seat in DC.
Perhaps then the people of Dallas would be able to consider the facts of their own situation and how silly it is to allege racism where the Chief of Police in their community is black and shown no unprofessionalism or bias whatsoever and has pursue equal accountability from communities and officers, regardless of skin color, in his work.
Because really, isn't it astoundingly stupid to protest (much less murder) police officers in Dallas, who are protecting citizens right to speak and organize, in diafiance of the institutional racism implied in and Asian cop shooting a black citizen over a thousand miles away? Wouldn't these people have better served their purpose by seeing to their own neighbor and his violent and racist predispositions?

Yeah, that is happening and will continue to happen. The real thing that will kill Atl business expansion is traffic. It is #2 here begind L.A. in the Country, and is tetting worse every day. A 42 mile trip from downtown to my extreme NW Suburb took me an hour and a half at 3:15 today. If I had waited until 4:30 it would have been over 2 hours.

There is a reason why this country is divided and that is because it serves the purposes of those who profit from, in one way or another from having us divided.
Who does our divided country serve? I don't know everyone, but some of the people it serves, in my weak minded opinion, are the politicians and the people they work for; and that isn't us.
We need to revolt against these assholes and find common cause with the people we have common cause with. For me, that sure as hell isn't the GOP. Not anymore.
I know that we will not find common cause with the SJW's and the BLM's of the country, but they don't represent all of the Dems or all of the blacks, a lot of whom I believe in my heart we can make common cause with.
If this site wanted to foment a revolution - a thoroughly peaceful revolution - it might just be able to do so by trying to make common cause with the people we probably do agree with more than anyone thinks. And I believe this is so, because I think we all know that we will no longer be told what we believe just because of some worn out, tired old legacy ties that we still cling to because that is who we always thought we were.
We woke up. Let's at least consider a revolution - a revolution to reunite under the old flag, but under a different banner.

Oh no, the shelf life on soft pretzels is very short. The day after you make them they start going south. They can be revived with a short pass in the toaster oven but after two days....blech.
I think the recipe I have (Alton Brown's) makes 8 pretzels. Usually I choke down the last two because they are past their prime.
The baking soda boil helps give them the shiny outside, soft inside, as does the egg wash. The egg wash helps bind the salt as well. If you don't boil, you tend to not get that chewy outside covering to the pretzel. They say food grade lye makes a more authentic, chewy crust, but I haven't been willing to go there.

I permanently left a firearms site because the buddies of the owner DESPISED law enforcement and anyone who even said one thing positive about LE. They were allowed to abuse others in the most vile and disgusting ways including anyone who tried to call them on it.

She played the role as overbearing and obnoxious, kind of like Katherine Hepburn in "African Queen". Both women were in positions where they were in way over their heads and trying to fake their way through with false bravado that pretty much everybody could see through. Mattie had been doing the job of an adult keeping the books on the ranch before her father was murdered and so then she took on the adult task of trying to live up to what she imagined her father would have wanted.
I don't know why so many hate Kim Darby in that movie. I thought she played the role of the young girl trying to behave like the way she thought an adult ought to behave quite well.

I've been involved with online communities for over 30 years and I've seen pretty much every possible discussion forum scenario play out at some point. A healthy thriving comment section is actually more fragile than you think. It only takes a handful of jerks to completely disrupt the spirit and mood of the comments. If you get a critical mass of them, then it starts to make jerk behavior the new social norm which turns the comments into a toxic place that eventually drives away all the contributing good commenters as well as any possible new ones.

A double bond between carbons results in the isomerism. Single bonds do not, well, not anything that matters I don't think. A cis-fat will have a "bend" in the chain at the double bond, while the trans will be straight.
You can look up the precise definitions and symmetries and all that crap.
Most fats in nature, produced by organisms are cis-, bent, with a few rare exceptions, such as found in beef.
The bad "trans" fats are produced during hydrogenation when certain double bonds remain double, but are converted to the trans- configuration by the action of the process. IOW, the double bond isn't converted to single by adding hydrogen as happens with much of it, but just gets flipped to trans.
The isomers are different enough that they can have substantially different chemical properties.
Human biochemistry involves a lot of lock-and-key stuff, and the trans- shape doesn't fit so well, apparently. It messes things up.

Wow Maet. Good comment. I didn't expect an explanation on the current bannings beyond this is Ace's house. And I would have agreed with that. I wasn't a fan and didn't think it a good idea but I am just some random commenter so what does opinion count for on here. But just in case it does...

White folks are notorious for living down to the lowest common denominator, but also for rising far above their "station" in life. Black folks are no different. Just as Park Avenue would prefer we not lump them in with Appalachia, I believe a whole, maybe huge, segment of black America would prefer to not be lumped in with the ghetto boys. I will say that my black friends who are from Africa can't figure out ghetto blacks at all. As my friend from Cameroon says, "African American? I AM African American. Those folks are just plain n...s"

Sure. But the internal social pressure then comes out to call you 'inauthentic' or a 'sellout.'
Its something that perpetuates the idea that 'black' means 'poor' or 'inner-city.'
There's an old bromide about putting crabs in a bucket-- you don't need a lid, do you know why? Because the crabs that are lower will pull the ones climbing out of the bucket back down so they can't escape.
The thing that can help Black America (and also larger, general America) improve is a restoration of the Gods of the Copybook Headings, simple virtues and the idea of shame and shaming for bad behaviors.

Now, none of what I'm saying is a condemnation of race, it's about the group social dynamics which are largely self-imposed. Certainly black people aren't inherently defective, as you pointed out with immigrants. But the society that's here, which has been built by historical processes and social attitudes as well as government policies, has a lot of self-perpetuating defects that hold back progress at least as effectively as anything from outside.

Before I go back in the kitchen to deal with the marmalade, inquiring minds want to know: How did they not have a record or as-built of your sewer connection? That kind of stuff is usually kept near and dear to their hearts, because if they have to do a repair and can't prove that your lateral was the culprit, they have to pay for it.

Nope no records. Our house was built 1900-02 but there are no city records of the sewer system from then. Mind boggling, they actually have no idea where the sewer lines from then run. WTF?

The biggest mistake this country made was not seeing the corrosive dangers of internationalism on the foundation blocks of the country. Most nations on earth are not exactly fond of certain freedoms that make America what it is. They like the wealth and power part, the better life in terms of material stuff, but not the other important values and customs.
This means the values and customs of internationalism crept into our political, legal, economic, educational, and business institutions. If the majority of countries on earth are hostile towards free speech as we Americans defined it, or gun rights, or displays of American patriotism, then our institutions influenced by internationalism will therefore become hostile toward those rights and customs as well.
Remember how America was founded, as a ship of liberty separated from a world full of despots and tyranny. The reality is the world today has not changed as much as we had hoped. Yet foolishly we allowed the ship to be grounded and bridged for world power, trade, and wealth after WWII...and in the process lost the reason for being on the ship in the first place.
