Hard to believe he was that old. Article said he had dementia. In an odd coincidence the wife and I ran into a nun she knew yesterday. Also 88 years of age. Still driving, still sharp as a tack. Still volunteering every day at some shelter. She was talking about 'retiring' to Colorado.
For some inexplicably reason nuns seem immune to dementia.

Mrs VIA has two friends who are Nuns.
The Nuns have worked and been stationed side by side since they both became Nuns.
Both of them retired several years ago, as they are each easily in their eighties, and the one is now in the last stages of Alzheimers/dementia.
Two truly wonderful women who have dedicated their lives to serving God.
But, my overall recollection is that diseases like this do seem to not effect that community as often as the overall population.
Unfortunately, not all are immune.

There is a story in Slate sourced from the Texas Observer claiming that without Planned parenthood there is no HIV testing since DECEMBER in Houston and Harris County Texas because the county didn't renew its contract with Planned Parenthood. And the county is refusing to spend the money the state of Texas has given it and has no program.
This appears to be a complete lie. There has been no local coverage of this and I know a lot of flaming Houstonians so I would have heard. The county has free testing 5 days a week and the city also provides free testing yet this LIE is not being challenged at either place.

I may not have agreed 100% with Romney but thought he was fundamentally good and decent and would have been a good President. Unfortunately he would do better with some dignified silence right now (aka STFU).

Well, screw politics, and Rombley, and the rest of those clowns.
I'm trying something new. When cutting stones, I normally use high temperature black wax to fix the stone to the dop. Usually with excellent success. But it can be time consuming, messy, and the stones can shift if they get too warm during cutting. So, after many years, I'm trying a modern innovation....super glue.
My Test Stone is a piece of synthetic blue quartz...something suitably cheap for experimenting with. I'm using a gel super glue, and once I had the stone glued to the dop, I left it alone for 30 minutes to allow ample time for the glue to cure properly. Then I tried several drop tests, first about two feet onto the top of my desk, then about four feet to a wood floor.
I followed that by roughing in the shape of the stone on my machine, then got busy with the actual cuts. So far, I've finished cutting and polishing the first set of pavilion facets, and the stone is still rock solid against it's dop Next up, the girdle facets, which is where the most stress against the glue joint will occur.
I'm impressed so far...if this super glue continues to perform, I might not ever go back to wax.
