1 Good Morning Morons. Today is Saturday, May 07, 2016. On this day in 558 in Constantinople, the dome of the Hagia Sophia collapsed. Justinian I immediately ordered that the dome be rebuilt. It was later converted to a mosque to satisfy the violent cult of islam.

15 More on RINO Ryan's refusal to support Trump.

Ryan's declaration that he will not support the presumptive GOP nominee at this time is perhaps not entirely surprising given that on the seminal issues of this election, Speaker Ryan holds functionally the same positions as Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton: namely, Ryan supports more foreign migration, more foreign trade, and more foreign military engagements.

There is a reason I call him RINO Ryan. According to a recent poll here only 7% of Republicans support his open borders/amnesty line.

These two RINOs are typical of the RNCe who created Trump.

That diet and exercise shtick is partly true. But genetics will overcome it. Up until I was in my mid forties, I worked out M-F and fought 3 times a week. The. One morning I was I a wreck on the scooter and the ambulance lady asked me if I was diabetic because my blood sugar was +400. I figured it was because I had just gotten throw into the car in front of me at highway speed. But the doc confirmed it the next day when they did more lab work. Just a quick reminder, Trump only garnered 42% of the primary vote. 58% voted for someone else.

And he and his ilk are behaving like sore winners. Sorry, but he is going to have to win our support for the general. And so far, he's doing a lousy job of it.

But we eat a lot of meat, eggs, bacon, whole milk, butter, cheese, etc. My last blood test showed improved and absolutely healthy cholesterol and triglyceride numbers. 121 May 5, 1961 was the date of Alan Shepard's suborbital Mercury flight. Here is the entire mission, which lasted only 15 minutes:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xd9kg-fJ9g

This is based on the full capsule-to-ground audio, with film and still photos synched with the events described.

Manual control of the thrusters and retro fire were not necessary for this flight, but were tests for the upcoming orbital missions.

"lunarmodule5" has some fantastic YouTube videos, some of which include original broadcast TV coverage of 1960s space flights. I watched them live, so they bring back memories.

142 Forgot to include the Lusitania wiki link:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RMS_Lusitania

Lusitania predated Titanic. Titanic was larger and more luxurious, but Lusitania was faster. The Cunard and White Star lines had a rivalry at the time.

Anyway, the Titanic sinking was fresh in everybody's minds at the time. When Lusitania was hit by the torpedo, it took on a heavy list to starboard which made launching the lifeboats almost impossible. Lifeboats on the starboard side were so far away from the deck that they were difficult for the passengers to board. Some on the port side swung inward and careened down the boat deck, crushing people trying to board them. Pandemonium ensued. It was a ghastly picture.

There has been a great deal of suspicion about that. If true, the Germans were within their rights to sink her. Kind of like if a school or mosque is used to store weapons, it becomes a legitimate military target.

On the other hand, there is evidence from study of the wreck that the torpedo triggered a coal dust explosion which caused much greater damage than the torpedo itself did.

Unlike Titanic, Lusitania lies on the continental shelf only about 300 feet deep. The bow stuck bottom while the stern was still above water.

160 Tim, Vic, and COJ,

I'm lucky in that most of my health problems are weight related. As I lost weight, 150 pounds so far, the reflux and sleep apnea have disappeared, the blood pressure is usually normal, and the diabetes and blood numbers are improving or normal. Still have to lose another 100 pounds. (You don't want to know what I weighed at my heaviest.) Rational portions, low carbs and light, regular exercise seem to be the keys. It helps that I quit cigarettes over thirty years ago and drink very little booze. One typical mint julep uses more bourbon than I have in a week. So that's a lot of carbs I avoid.

168 I'm lucky in that most of my health problems are weight related.

Supposedly, the advantage lies in little goodies present due to drinking high quality one hundred percent agave tequila. Not just the calorie count.

Mostly, the agave sugars and congeners present (or absent.)

I will say that when my preferred tipple was tequila on the rocks, squeeze of lime.

I never had a hangover.
