You've worked hard all year and saved up your money for a wonderful vacation. So, you're minding your own business, playing tourist in some Third World shit-hole (or Oakland) and the natives think you're loaded (financially, not alcoholically). You find yourself kidnapped. They throw you in the trunk of a car. What would you do if you were thrown into the trunk of a car? Good question. Maybe if you had paid better attention to your surroundings or honed up on your self defense skills. You wouldn't be stuck in that trunk. It's wonderful to be handy. Begun, The Bathroom Wars Have
North Carolina has declared that men's restrooms are for men, and women's restrooms are for women. This would have elicited nothing more than a "well obviously" from people in the past. But we are experiencing "interesting times", where "men" and "women" are defined not by objective biological reality, but by the "feelz" of a scant few who wish to force their "identities" on others... regardless of the cost. Needless to say, the outrage that real men are supposed to use the men's room and not the ladies' room has been palpable and hypocritical. Anybody know how Louis Armstrong got the Satchmo moniker?
Posted by: Seamus Muldoon Yeah. He once went to a diner in South Hampton - the stirring story about his grandfather's old ram. He was encouraged by his friends who have already heard the story, finally finds Blaine, an old silver miner, who sets out to tell Twain and his friends the tale. Blaine starts out with the ram. Then Mogambo came. The drummers began to drum. The musicians began to play. And the people sang songs. Mogambo made a bow to the chief and said to the people, 'Now look at me! Look at me! Look at me!' With these words Mogambo began to eat soup. And he ate. And he ate. And he ate. And he ate. And he ate. The bartender looks at the guy and figures to himself that he can't possibly be stupid enough to pull the same trick twice, so he gives him the benefit of the doubt, pours a round of drinks for the house, has a drink himself and hands the drunk a bill for $67.00. So all the way to the movies she was a bit speechless and it was awkward at best. I mean it is hard enough to meet someone new but to think you would be meeting one type of person and it doesn't end up that way can be a bit shocking. But of course, it did not matter much once the movie started. But then we went to a big dance bar and my friend very quickly got smashed. So I ended up spending the entire time at the bar keeping her out of trouble and mostly spending time with her in the bathroom. I spent no time at all with my date and barely talked to him at all. So when they dropped us off I figured that was it for both couples. And the guy's, like, "Have you ever seen anyone about this?" And the bartender's, like, "Oh, yeah, I started seeing a therapist four years ago. But she says we've barely scratched the surface." So, at around this point, the twelve-inch pianist finishes up his sonata. And he walks over to the bar and climbs onto one of the stools. And he's, like, "Listen, I couldn't help but overhear the end of your conversation. I never told anyone this before, but my dad and I didn't speak the last ten years of his life." Not once, but twice. Because I figured it would make sense the second time. The opening paragraph was the tip-off. Twain and the old ram. It's from Roughing It, in which Twain's friends work him up to a pitch of excitement to hear Jim Blaine's story of the old ram, and an adventure he once had. But one had to wait until Blaine was at just the right level of drunkenness. It was all a troll. Twain was finally present when Blaine was just drunk enough, and it turned out that he would mention the ram, and then wander off onto random topics until he passed out. http://preview.tinyurl.com/h39unrm Posted by: Splunge at May 10, 2016 10:52 PM (iMxBJ) 89

Now the spin is that the salute is not what they meant even though everyone knows what that salute means. He loved the Army, and felt honored to be at West Point, which is what he wanted since he was a kid. After two tours in Iraq, he kinda wanted out, because he lost some men, some very good men who were his very close friends (several of them were white guys, top NCO's under him), and it was almost too much to bear. Armstrong may have actually had some legit racism gripes, given he was popular in the 1930s and 1940s, well before the civil rights movement; I wouldn't doubt he had to deal with some *real* racism during his career. From Wikipedia, on Armstrong (the "Race" section):
"Armstrong was largely accepted into white society, both on stage and off, a privilege reserved for very few African-American public figures, and usually those of either exceptional talent or fair skin tone.[citation needed] As his fame grew, so did his access to the finer things in life usually denied to African-Americans, even famous ones.[citation needed] His renown was such that he dined in reputable restaurants and stayed in hotels usually exclusively for whites.[48][not in citation given] It was a power and privilege that he enjoyed, although he was very careful not to flaunt it with fellow performers of color, and privately, he shared what access that he could with friends and fellow musicians. That still did not prevent members of the African-American community, particularly in the late 1950s to the early 1970s, from calling him an Uncle Tom, a black-on-black racial epithet for someone who kowtowed to white society at the expense of their own racial identity. Billie Holiday countered, however, "Of course Pops toms, but he toms from the heart."[49] He was criticized for accepting the title of "King of The Zulus" for Mardi Gras in 1949. In the New Orleans African-American community it is an honored role as the head of leading black Carnival Krewe, but bewildering or offensive to outsiders with their traditional costume of grass-skirts and blackface makeup satirizing southern white attitudes. Some musicians criticized Armstrong for playing in front of segregated audiences, and for not taking a strong enough stand in the American Civil Rights Movement.[50] The few exceptions made it more effective when he did speak out. Armstrong's criticism of President Eisenhower, calling him "two-faced" and "gutless" because of his inaction during the conflict over school desegregation in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1957 made national news. As a protest, Armstrong canceled a planned tour of the Soviet Union on behalf of the State Department saying "The way they're treating my people in the South, the government can go to hell" and that he could not represent his government abroad when it was in conflict with its own people.[51] The FBI kept a file on Armstrong for his outspokenness about integration.[52]" Posted by: qdpsteve at May 10, 2016 11:24 PM (ntObR) 180

There wasn't any, because the University is so big that they had two ceremonies: Separate ones for groups of departments where they got to walk across the stage with their name called, and a single one the next day where the graduates only stood up with their whole department and the rest of it was speeches. So daughter elected to go to the one where she got to walk across the stage, and no speeches were given.

Taunton Police affirm two stabbings on the home on Myricks Road. A neighbor described the individuals who stay on the home as a "good household."
Witnesses informed 7News that the suspect, recognized as 28 yr previous Arthur Derosa, crashed his automotive outdoors the home. Officers stated Derosa then stabbed two ladies, a mom and daughter, inside. The eighty yr previous mom, recognized by sources as Patricia Slavin, was pronounced lifeless and her daughter was taken to the hospital with critical accidents. Officers stated Derosa then stole a automotive and drove it to the Silver Metropolis Galleria Mall. Witnesses reported seeing the automotive driving erratically by way of the mall's parking zone. Police stated Derosa crashed the stolen automotive into the doorway of the Macy's on the mall, then went inside and assaulted "a number of" individuals on the division retailer. http://goo.gl/LdvNuV Posted by: Bruce With a Wang! at May 10, 2016 11:36 PM (iQIUe) 205

I've only watched the first 1/2-hour, but haven't got a quibble with her yet... well, except where she says, "I was reading a piece that a woman had wrote...." The hard part is watching this, reflecting on how much of my own life has been ruined either by the Diabolical Narcissism of others, or, most horrifyingly, my own. Not that I didn't already know it... but, always cringeworthy. Sample the first 10 minutes, at least. Or 20. Or 30... So the gun debate show was a debate? Not a propaganda piece?
The way this crap is being presented scares the hell out of me. This government, the leftist controlled government wants to rule. For them, it is not about country, duty, or honor. It is not about making America strong. It is about commanding obedience from the serfs and I don't want to be ruled by tyrants. Law and order is one thing when the majority choose to make something legal, or illegal. And once that happens, the minority are required, as an act of citizenship and civic duty, to obey the law. We don't have that any longer. Now we have a small group of activists who want to dictate the law to everyone else, and intend to use violence to enforce that law. I don't want to live like that; at war with my neighbors, or at war with my government. Posted by: Raymond Stegatorian at May 11, 2016 12:03 AM (6ggxT) 268
No, thank god. Charlie Rose did not get near this show. Independent lens has been accused in the past of being partial. But this one did show both sides. A little heavy on victims, and a little light on a cop facing an AK or not knowing what is there. But worth watching.

Erik Honecker's widow has died in Chile. Well, my ongoing project to gut out a defunct Vogue motorhome and convert the hulk into a storage shed, achieved a milestone today. Got the propane-fueled Chrysler 440 and the Torqueflite out of it, without damage to anything. And no strings forgotten!
Had a jack under the oil pan, and another under the rear of the transmission pan. Used a chain and a Suburban to drag the vehicle back while the engine stayed put. First move was a little over a foot, and the rear jack was up against the back side of the front axle. Moved the jack around to the front side of the axle, and did another pull; this one about six feet. The engine immediately fell off the jack, and landed on its side, but no harm done, as it landed on soft grass. I got it righted without too much trouble. Went on to extract the dash board, and all instruments and wiring. Got to say, not impressed with the build quality. And Vogue was supposed to be a high-end motorhome. Could it be some sort of gauge for adjusting machinery - depth, clearance or something like that? I recall something about a discipline of science somewhat like archeology that addresses things that aren't really all that old: old machinery, maps, abandoned industrial sites, etc., but I can't seem to find anything about it now. I think there was a case where an old (Civil War Era?) naval gun was recovered from the sea still loaded with an explosive shell... They were able to safely remove the shell when research showed the fuse had a left-handed thread -- had they attempted to disarm the device without this knowledge, it might have ended badly! Posted by: Mike Hammer, etc., etc. at May 11, 2016 12:27 AM (ANVXm) Yes. It's got an Impco conversion on it. All the right stuff, at least externally. I don't know if the engine had internal modifications. To get the most out of propane, you have to raise the compression to about 10:1 or so, add hardened exhaust valve seats, and change the timing curve in the distributor. I should do a compression test on it. It should show 150 psi or better if the required head work was done, 120 or less if not. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at May 11, 2016 12:37 AM (GQ0V+) 298

Posted by: Kindltot at May 11, 2016 12:36 AM (ry34m) If the repair exceeds the value of the car, it's too much. Do you have any Pick-and-Pull yards near you? A used engine from such a place should not run more than a few hundred dollars. Will your present mechanic work with you if you got that route, or try do some of the work yourself? If the engine has been leaking coolant into the engine oil for any length of time, be advised the engine bearings are likely to be ruined. If not, a used head, new head gasket, new timing chain, and new water pump should perk it up. You could probably find the complete procedure for doing it on Youtube. Say the old car has a good windshield, that's worth a couple hundred bucks if the one in the new car gets smashed by a rock. My '96 Suburban got totalled in a wreck in March. Drove it home, but the frame is buckled, and repair exceeds the value of the vehicle. And the miles on the engine/tranny were getting up there. 195 Kindltot My 96 Honda Civic lots its head gasket at about 185,00 miles. My mechanic recommended that I sell it, as they felt that it had about 1 year left. My options were: 1. Sell it, and buy ... a. New - $20,000, maybe more b. Used - Cash for Clunkers removed all the cheap yet functional vehicles, leaving either cars that were not much less expensive than new, or stuff with all sorts of unknowns. 2. Put in a "new" engine; just the engine ... Swapping an Acura would require some rewiring, so it had to be a Civic ... about $4500, probably more. 3. Replace the gasket: about $1600. I also had a lot of other stuff done, since the head was off. This way I only paid for parts. Total cost, about $3200. I chose #3, and I had very good results. The car just hit 226,000 miles, and seem likely to make it to 250,000, maybe 275,000 with no problem. The car is 20 years old, and the headliner is starting to come off, but I'm between $1500 and $18,500 ahead. There have to be an enormous number of still viable mid-Nineties Accord motors out there.
The Honda tuner community are as a group pretty competent on engine swaps and do them all the time. I'd go find some local Honda enthusiasts at a get-together and ask them about this. They probably have zero interest in a low performance, mass market Accord motor for their own purposes. So you're not competing with them for a rare commodity. They also probably could do a swap of a junkyard mill for a few hundred bucks in beer money. Some of these guys can put a motor in a car that was never designed to accept it, and finish it off in an extended weekend. Pull the valve cover. Cam lobes clean and unscored? No old-oil gunk? Run compression and leakdown tests by turning the crank. A-OK? Cooling passages have no rust or residue? I'd happily bet on a $300 motor which passed those examinations. And pay someone else another few hundred to yank and swap. Posted by: torquewrench at May 11, 2016 02:16 AM (noWW6) 335

Break out the tools and do it yourself. Replacing a head gasket or swapping in a junkyard motor (with the help of a rented engine hoist) isn't beyond the realm of a backyard mechanic. If that is for some reason not an option- get rid of it. It's a 20 year old car that is likely to have more, expensive problems soon. Queen Elizabeth II has been overheard on video describing Chinese officials as 'very rude to the ambassador' in a conversation with a senior police officer at a Buckingham Palace event celebrating her birthday. The comments, which became public Wednesday, were unusual because the 90 year old monarch has been careful to steer clear of politics during her long reign. The incident, recorded by the palace's official cameraman, captured police Commander Lucy D'Orsi telling the queen that arranging the state visit by Chinese President Xi in October had been a 'testing time.' Elizabeth responded: "They were very rude to the ambassador." It was the second embarrassment from Tuesday's event, where Prime Minister David Cameron was overheard describing Nigeria and Afghanistan as 'possibly the two most corrupt countries in the world.' http://goo.gl/GvAxks ============== It's China, Nigeria, and Afghanistan who should be embarrassed. Case in point: last night. I was cruising along with the front page (I'm a layout editor for a crappy small-town rag -- long story), and I had it all done except for one wire story. And InDesign crashed. And wiped out all my work. So I rebooted, and got everything completed. Tried to save the page ... And InDesign crashed. And wiped out all my work. I notified the editor that the pages would be late coming to him. He comes back to the newsroom and gives me hell for not having more pages done, ignoring the fact that those crashes cost me about two hours. I don't want to think about the rest of the shift. Please, God, get me out of there! Posted by: Weak Geek at May 11, 2016 04:11 AM (n5sLw) 342

So, posted earlier the info about the PBS gun thingy but wasn't able to watch more than a couple of minutes of the "town hall" discussion.
My take is that the big push to convert clingers over to the dark side will be to play on the emotional aspects of scripture-based love of neighbor against the violence "inherent in guns." Logic be damned, of course. Even viewing for just a few minutes I could easily see the moderator gently guiding the discussion in a particular direction. Good Morning Morons. Today is Wednesday, May 11, 2016. On this day in 1310 in France, fifty-four members of the Knights Templar were burned at the stake as heretics. Their actual crime was being wealthy while the King of France was bankrupt and had borrowed large sums of money from them. They had accrued much wealth through establishing the first banking system in medieval times. The King even got the corrupt Pope at the time to agree to the charges.

McKinny, TX just approved a bond issue and a plan to build a $63M High School Football stadium. This is insane but evidently the voters are insane over HS football and government crony corruption. Of course the town government used that old saw about this spurring economic development which has been debunked over and over again for even pro venues. I note that this "approval" occurred during a non-normal voting season for general elections so it was a "special election". So I suspect the same shenanigans there that happened here to float a tax increase.

He did agree to plant some trees and build a fence so the SOBs could save a little face. The truth of the matter is that if it went to court the EPA was certain to have lost because the Supreme Court has beat them down twice over this kind of shit. Those fake refugees that the shithead 'n chief is bringing in are bringing in more diseases with them. We have now a measles outbreak in Memphis originating with them.
The first reported case of a person with measles in the recent Memphis outbreak, which now numbers seven confirmed cases, was at a local mosque on April 15, according to the Shelby County Health Department. I need advice. My $1500 96 Honda Accord has a blown head gasket, and the mechanic is quoting me $2000 to fix it and the possibly cracked head. >>> I had a newish junkyard motor put in my Alero for less than $3k. So the question of fixing your motor comes down to how well it's been treated. Putting new head gaskets in a motor that has been treated well may be worth it (always a gamble though) but spending a little more for a low mileage junk yard motor may be better once you are at the $2k mark (still a gamble).
