In fact, the EU playing around with Turkey wanting to jon (forcing Turkey to amend their constitution in 2003 to take supreme poser away from the secular military (the thing that MADE modern Turkey and kept it half sane all these years) in order to even be considered for EU membership) is what led to Erdogan's dragging Turkey back into the islamist abyss and Turkey's late switch to the other side, against Israel and NATO. I sometimes think of the Germans casually flushing away their nation and culture and find it very sad.
Then I remind myself of the reception the Germans accorded Barack Obama in 2008, when they treated him quite literally like some celestial figure descended to earth, to wisely instruct ordinary mortals, and correct our pathetic failings. A more hysterically rapturous response than even that of Obama's domestic personality cult here in the USA. Then after that, I don't feel quite so sad for the Germans. Technically, it's the dogs that are coming to Europe. Mostly from the Middle East, coincidentally. "The slow European suicide continues....." It doesn't look all that slow. Relatively quick, compared to, say, the fall of the Roman Empire, or the first Muslim invasion of Europe. "Good thing that could never happen here." Many smallish state-level electoral results seem to indicate that, in fact, most Germans are *not* terribly happy about the state of things.
And recall, in Europe the gulf between popular will/common sense and actual elites and actual policy makes the current US look like it did in January 1942 on war policy. But, still, conflicted. Appreciate Europe as a living museum and amusement park with great food and wine (and yes they make some nice trinkets too). But much like America, Europe is getting what it deserves, at least in terms of not rising up to put a stop to it. And yes, Turkey has Germany (and thus, all of Europe) by the very short hairs on this. There have been some astonishing German/EU "missions" to Turkey, in which they cravenly begged for mercy on the mass migrant flow (almost entirely under Turkey's control). Didn't get much attention in the US. Posted by: rhomboid at April 15, 2016 01:44 PM (QDnY+) 69

Grump: Lee Classic Turret is great. Though as I'm doing my first bottleneck-rifle (30-06 for the M1), I'm wishing I had one of those heavier presses from Lee or RCBS etc. - the resizing cycle is a workout.
Cuban-backed movie: one reason I find it repulsive that that vermin is even considered acceptable by sane society, much less cool or interesting. It's like some German businessman with a side-line business who was a favorite anti-Semitic movie producer for Goebbels. Eff him. Citadel: WTF? The Congress withstood an effort in the 1980s to allow religious non-uniformity in military uniforms (pushed, as I recall, by a small Orthodox Jewish group?). Goldwater's floor speech against the idea was a classic. Posted by: rhomboid at April 15, 2016 02:16 PM (QDnY+) 138

One of the things that makes us Americans and not Europeans has been our commitment to civil liberties, including the right to free speech.
But there's a pernicious movement afoot to read the 14th Amendment right to "liberty" to override things in the Bill of Rights such as the right to free speech. You see, you can't have "liberty" if someone offends you with their speech. This current phae of progressivism is being played out at a college or university near you. Col. Kurtz, to clarify, I use the turret press in single-stage mode (no indexing rod to turn the turret) when I'm doing 30-06. Every step separated - resizing/depriming, powder drop, bullet seating. Just for 100% quality control. And my volumes are much lower for this than for handgun ammo, so not much time penalty.
I was referring to the heavier single-stage presses (forget the names) put out by Lee and the other big names. They're smooth as butter even when resizing larger rifle cases, from what I hear. Posted by: rhomboid at April 15, 2016 02:23 PM (QDnY+) 150

While Europe has - even in its most blessed and happy period, that made possible by US protection and alliance from WWII to the end of the Cold War - never come close to having the culture or framework of liberty America invented for the human race, here in the US things are looking much darker. It's not that the 1st amend. has been repealed, or gutted per se. It's that repugnant, alien, thoroughly un-American concepts like "hate speech" are now *not* markers of being on the lunatic fringe. Just this week the UC San Diego chancellor joined the ranks of those blazing this path to darkness, "apologizing" for some students chalking "You Know Who 2016" and - sit down before you read this - also the blood-curdling racist tocsin-call of "Build the Wall". In five years they will hope they are as well off as Mississippi.
==== In 5 years they'll be Bosnia writ large. And there'll be a push for another European world war, probably. Maybe they'll even bring the ovens out of storage. , Well, she was a member of the East German communist youth organization, close enough?
Posted by: GregV61 at April 15, 2016 01:26 PM (H0lcY) Yeah, given her policies are destroying Germany as well as the rest of Europe. Stasi mole wouldn't be too far a stretch. Or just a typical leftist asshole who doesn't care about the rest of their people or the nation as long as they can lap up plenty of public funds then retire with a big, fat pension. Possibly both. Meant to say that the American left is NOT far behind the Euro left.

"O/T so has it been decided that the Cruz sabotage was the price FOX had to pay to get Trump on the Kelly file?"
That and today's endorsement of Trump by the NY Post, another Murdoch property. "Imperfect -- but so full of promise" Sounds about right, no? Posted by: Ignoramus at April 15, 2016 02:46 PM (r1fLd) 208
Islam needs to be destroyed. It serves no purpose other than death-dealing. It has accomplished nothing other than murder. Time for it to be eradicated.

Merkel's payback for all those booby campaign floats back in her early political bandwagon day? From KGB's Chief Stasi contact to Prime Minister.
As with Merkel, more so with Hillary. Yet a penis doesn't immune politics of insanity, either. Cue from Sunni madhouse. It didn't take Erdogan long at all to prove his own global empire fantasy, for now abreast of Saud, as if any such thing be a "true" Caliph of all Islam. And it won't take a DNC ticket to augment preemptive martial law in dumb & dummer America. Posted by: maverick muse at April 15, 2016 02:49 PM (hCdMd) 210
torquewrench,
touché GOLDWATER wise statesman. He wouldn't have been nominated for POTUS had Americans not wanted him. It's no longer amazing, how stupidly foolish Americans think, too easily twisted in soundbites. Posted by: maverick muse at April 15, 2016 02:53 PM (hCdMd) 211
I just can't get all up in arms anymore if leftist countries do leftist things, if anything I expect it will get worse for them until the sharia laws take over.

In a decent society Merkel would have long ago been set out on a stake.

100 ... Grump928, The Lee Classic Cast press is a single stage. I've used one for years on everything from 32 long to 45-70 brass. It can even handle 50BMG cases. The Lee turret press is also excellent and plenty strong enough for 30-06. The turret press can be put in single stage mode very simply, so it is extremely versatile. I also use Lee die sets. They are excellent and at a fraction of the cost of RCBS and other dies. I've been using Lee reloading gear for over thirty years and never had a problem.
You probably know but I'll say it anyhow: you HAVE to use lube when sizing bottleneck cases. Posted by: JTB at April 15, 2016 03:12 PM (V+03K) 216

Thanks for the info. I don't plan on being a factory, so a simple single stage would probably work for me but the idea of being able to have turrets already setup for different calibers is attractive. And in truth, the amount of money I burn for factory ammo could easily justify any reasonable expense. Posted by: Grump928(c) says Free Soothie! at April 15, 2016 03:21 PM (evdj2) 217
