5 Good Morning Morons. Today is Monday, April 11, 2016. On this day in 1951 the Stone of Scone, the stone upon which Scottish monarchs were traditionally crowned, was found on the site of the altar of Arbroath Abbey. It had been taken by Scottish nationalist students from its place in Westminster Abbey. Everybody knows this is false. The stone was taken by Duncan McCloud.

Morning, 'rons and 'ronettes. Thanks for the news, Vic.

Every now and then, I come across a story about "The First Lady of the American Stage," Helen Hayes. Here's a cute one:

It seems that, a few years after she married, Hayes announced to her husband and young son that she had been secretly taking cooking lessons and proposed to make dinner for the three of them that evening, rather than letting their cook do the work. "But if I spoil it," she warned, "I don't want to hear a word from either of you. We'll just get up from the table - without comment - and go to a restaurant for dinner."

And so, a short time later, the lovely Madam Hayes came out of the kitchen, holding high a platter containing the first steak she had ever cooked. . .

. . .to find her husband and son sitting in silence at the table with their hats and coats on.

Hope you all have a wonderful day.

95 I wonder how that ColoradoCare ballot initiative will affect turnout this November?

Colorado votes on universal healthcare run by the state in Nov.

6.6% new payroll tax for all employers

How fast will CO employers flee the state?

And how fast will the unemployed for the other 49 states find their way to CO?

97 @83 yep. I was just looking at the Denver Post and their archives. Article in August 2015 about the rule changes. 193 comments. Article this weekend, 1395 so far. The rule change was put in place to counter the Paulians who stole the delegates in 2012, to stop that from occurring again.

What I think is funny is that the guy the Trump campaign just pulled from the lobbies of Congress. Guy tweets about 'gestapo' tactics in 'theft' of delegates. Guy who was involved with the delegate battle between Ford and Reagan. Bringing Paul-bot aides as well. Pot, kettle, black. Assembly not really required.

104 years ago on 10th April 1912, RMS Titanic, owned by the White Star Line, set sail from Southampton

As RMS Titanic left port, it came close to colliding with a liner, SS New York', which had broken away from her moorings.

RMS Titanic proceeded to Cherbourg to collect more passengers & the following day, it anchored off the coast of Cobh in Ireland

In Ireland, Titanic collected the last of its passengers before heading off to New York.

RMS Titanic had 2,240 people on board and was equipped with lifeboats for 1,178. It met its fate on 14th April.

Having been presented a choice between ousting the party with said asshole off the street, or ousting the outsider by allying with the party...

Suddenly find themselves rationalizing an utterly indefensible power grab, the erasure of the voting public's say.

Will you now crawl back to the GOP and resume your position as footrest?

Will you stand with your countrymen and do what is required of you to preserve what's left of the Republic?

114 Here's a thought on Cruz's delegates...

There has been a lot of talk about how brilliant Cruz has been in lining up delegates that he didn't actually win with votes. Also, on the other side, about how incredibly stupid and incompetent Trump is because he didn't go around and set up grass roots organizations in every county of every state before running for president.

All this aside, think of the people you know and who among them carry the opinion of the last person who talked to them. People can be swayed and bullied into taking a side, but you never know how they are actually going to go until the final vote.

These delegates are the county-level grunts. They've put their time in making calls, attending meetings, pounding in yard signs and taking shit from the State-level guys.

Most have been to national conventions - when it didn't matter. Now, they're getting attention.

Trump needs to win on the first ballot with 1237.

Using the most conservative numbers, he'll get 1137 that are committed and can't change on the first ballot. So that only leaves 100.

Out of all the uncommitted delegates and those who are now telling their state masters they are for Cruz or Kasich in order to get their seat at the convention, how many can be turned with the promise of position and power?

Assistant Undersecretary of Defense? Ambassador to the Bahamas? Any of these chosen 100 can parlay a position in the Trump administration to a seven figure salary in a lobbying firm in 4 years.

Who the fuck is going to stick with Cruz or Kasich with those kind of perks waiting at the end of the rainbow?

Remember, these are people smart enough to know Cruz will never be nominated. After the first ballot, Cruz and his loyalists will be seated in the parking lot of the convention.

These county delegates are human. Some small town insurance agency owner dreams of being in the big game just like the dicks in Washington.

All it takes is someone to make the deal...

152 Interesting day at the range yesterday. There is one rifle I have fired that just doesn't get along with me; the M-14. For reasons having to do with the shape of the stock, the length of my hand, the shape of my shoulder and the contours of my face - I was never able to fire one of those without it smacking me in the upper lip with the knuckle of my right thumb. No matter how I tried holding the rifle, and no matter what sight picture I tried to build - as soon as I shot the recoil would drive the knuckle of my right thumb exactly into my right upper lip just above the root of my right canine tooth. To top it off - to me - the recoil of the mild 308 Winchester round in an M-14 was the hardest of any rifle I have ever fired. Just my physiology not matching the design of that weapon's design.

I came out of qualifying with the M-14 in basic training in 1969 with my lip swollen up and blood trickling out of my mouth. You have never seen anyone so happy to see our M-14s replaced with M-16s half way through basic as me.

Yesterday there was an ex marine, about my age, at the range. He had an M-1A which is the recently manufactured civilian clone of the M-14. We got to talking about it and he had a 180 degree different experience; he loved the M-14 and cried when they took it away from him in Vietnam. He hated the M-16 so much he managed to talk his way into carrying an M-60 machine gun. He offered to let me try firing his M-1A. Since I was shooting a 300 Win Mag with 208 grain bullets I figured that my 47 year old memories of the M-14 were the distortions of a teenager, and that I would easily be able to handle the kick of a 308 with 150 grain bullets.

Ha - that thing kicked like a damn mule, and my thumb hit my face exactly where it did 47 years ago. I just hope I haven't broken my tooth; I can't afford the dentistry bills.
