Morning Thread (4-6-2016)

While we've all been paying attention to the GOP primary, it shouldn't go unnoticed that Democrat primary voters pretty much hate Hillary Clinton. So there's that.

4 Big news from yesterday was the big winners were Cruz and Sanders however, it is just about impossible for krazy commie Sanders even if the DNC was not screwing him. As for Cruz, like Trump the RNCe hates him. They are busy trying to figure out a way to get their chosen RINO in there at the convention.

***grinds teeth again***

Let me try to tamp down this hopeless feeling. Here are a couple of cute stories.

The artist Pablo Picasso was, as most artists are, of a changeable mood. He could, when he wished, be generous and accommodating, but at other times would be brusque and cold. An example of the latter happened one day when a friend brought him three paintings to sign. Picasso, knowing that the "friend" didn't care about the art, but would only turn around and sell them, refused, declaring that all three were utter fakes.

"But," the friend sputtered, "I saw you paint these pictures with my own eyes!"

Picasso simply shrugged, "I can paint fake Picassos just as well as anybody."

***

The raconteur Bennett Cerf once told about the time he overheard Salvador Dali talking to a hat-check girl at the swanky Stork Club. Apparently, the beautiful girl had become an object of desire to a rich older man and Dali was telling her the facts of life: "Never take a fur coat from an amorous customer, my dear. A fur coat is like a painting by me: you have to explain both to your mother."

Hope you all have a wonderful day.

And the media is in on it. Everyone who's even the slightest bit open to the truth can see it. The Bernie voters are almost as hacked off about it as we are (they're newer to it, but it's starting to dawn on them just how rotten things actually are). There's a backlash building, and just what exactly is going to happen is hard to say at this point.

I read one recently that made me laugh. Vincent Price's wife Coral Browne, was a convert to Catholicism (and eventually he converted also) and like many converts was quite devout. But she was also known for having a mouth like a longshoreman.

Once, she was leaving the London Oratory after confession when an actor friend spotted her and rushed over to tell her some hot gossip about a show business figure who was sleeping with someone else's wife.

Browne snapped, "I don't need to hear this filth. I'm in a state of f*cking grace."

37 New Jersey lost it's biggest taxpayer this week, a hedge fund guy who tired of making voluntary contributions to the future bankruptcy mess. He left for Miami, leaving behind a state income tax, a huge state capital gains tax, and property taxes three times what he will pay for the same house in Florida. The State Treasurer in NJ was non-plussed, telling the newspapers only that him leaving will make financial life harder. Democrats responded with vague statements that it should be illegal to move away to save on taxes and, oh by the way, now New Jersey needs to raise taxes.

.We moved away from Connecticut three years ago due to the ever rising taxes. We suffered under two of the largest tax increases in history while we lived there and they were getting ready for another one because they could never get enough.

The State started to collect "service" taxes right as we left. We had to pay a service tax when we boarded our dogs. There are no State Inspections for kennels nor are there any special licenses or certifications for people running them, but, the "service" they provide is taxed at the State Sales Tax rate.

I can respect that. As much as I think the Libertarians are generally a wheel short of a unicycle, they're usually the only other party on the ballot here, and if the Republicans decide to throw out the vote and put some also-ran or never-ran in the spot instead of Trump or Cruz, I'll probably be holding my nose and voting Libertarian in protest, too.

I have long ago given up on any notion that Washington has any viable answers.

What saddens me is watching local elections, like yesterday, where across the board governments are increasing their sizes, and the amount of control they have over people.

We used to reject tax increases around here. Now they literally nickel and dime us to the point where almost every increase is approved overwhelmingly.

We're voting away our freedom. Plain and simple.

Because the actual communist is a crusty old idiot whose attempts to implement his ideas would lead to epic failures that would further discredit his ideology, where Hillary is just plain evil and will do anything and everything to shore up her stranglehold on power from day one. Hillary's election would probably be the last election that doesn't have 99.9% turnout and 99.9% voting for Dear Leader.

Lots of Gopes running around here wearing masks. They are of for and by the Gope, think they're smarter than everyone else, and now seem to have taken on the mantel of trying to prop up a hopeless Cruz campaign.

Why?

Because they know there is no way in hell they're going to let Cruz take the nomination, so they use him as a tool to defeat Trump.

Gope has to Gope.

The same thing happened in SC when we went to picture ID despite lawfare from felon Holder. The Democrats counted high and low to draw evidence of suppression of black voter turnout. Black voter turnout actually increased despite their federal lawsuit that said it would be suppressed. Note "would be" harm is not supposed to be sufficient to gain federal standing but somehow they got it anyway.

137 I like the idea of school uniforms. Much easier than shopping for school clothes for girls. Everything out there now is slutty.

When my kids were in Christian school, there were dress codes. Finding actual clothes in actual stores to meet those codes gave me at least 150 gray hairs. Especially for my daughter. It would have been so much easier if they had just gone to uniforms. Try finding a button down shirt with a collar and sleeves for an eleven year old girl.

I wore school uniforms too, in both grade and high school. They not only saved my parents a ton of money, they took the pressure off of us kids too. My high school was a Catholic girls school with students from a wide variety of socio-economic backgrounds. There were rich girls who got new cars on their 16th birthday and kids who had to work in the cafeteria to help pay tuition. But we all wore the same uniforms.

Every so often, we would have dress up and dress down days and those days were treats. On a day to day basis, nobody had to worry about not having the "right" jeans or shoes (saddle shoes or loafers being pretty much universal).

My idea is that the Feds (well actually Congress) say to the States, based on your population, you need to contribute X amount to the upkeep of the federal government. It's up to the States to decide how to raise the money.

The federal income tax itself is completely eliminated.

The best part would be the Congressional fights about this. Each Congressman and Senator would return to being advocates of their own State since that's where the money is. Instead of what happens now where they become employees of DC.

And THIS is how democracies fall. Big parts of BOTH parties now simply want an Emperor who will rule by decree, they only differ in the groups they want their Emperor to promote.

The old Confederacy was basically set up that way. The problem was that, as soon as things got hard, the various states simply quit contributing anything, and the central authority couldn't do anything about it. That's when they started floating worthless bonds and printing huge amounts of currency, making all of the confederate currency in circulation completely worthless.

And THIS had a huge bearing on why Lee's army couldn't get any shoes, or food, or ammunition in the final months of the war. Although it isn't talked about much, this policy was a huge part of the reason that the Confederacy lost and the Federal Government won that war.
